[UPDATE 22:18] Ops says the network problem has been fixed, we’ve regained contact with the rest of the world, and things should quickly be returning to normal. We’ll be monitoring the situation, and if no further complications arise, we’ll be giving the all-clear shortly.
There is a major issue causing problems with a number of inworld services, including problems with profiles, teleporting, and maps as well as interfering with logins. Ops is investigating and early indications are that we are being affected by a major networking issue. Please monitor this post for updates.
[COMPLETED - 3:45 a.m. Pacific] We’ve just received word the scheduled maintenance is now complete and Voice Chat should once again be functioning normally. — Chiyo
[UPDATE - 2:30 a.m. Pacific] Voice Chat maintenance is underway. — Frontier
Inworld Voice Chat will down between 1AM and 5AM on Wednesday, April 16, for a major update in preparation for some additional voice services.
[COMPLETE 2 a.m. Pacific] The scheduled maintenance has been completed! — Frontier
[REMINDER] Phase II of the breaker maintenance at our San Francisco facility will again require a shutdown of some of our server racks. The maintenance will continue until 1AM Pacific Time. Please refer to the original blog post, Maintenance Events Scheduled, 13 - 16 April, for full details.

[08:00 - Updated] We are still workin on the database, but the number of residents experiencing these problems should now be considerably smaller. - Lotte
[6:55 AM - Reopened] The problems from earlier have resurfaced. This is causing problematic logins and interruptions in various in world services for some residents. We are working now to find a solution and will update you on any progress. -Chiyo
[2:45 AM - Resolved] The database unpleasantness has been resolved and things should return to normal shortly. — Frontier
[1:00 AM - Update] No additional information or updates for the time being as we continue to investigate this issue.
There is currently some database unpleasantness causing interference with logins and a number of inworld services. Until further notice, please refrain from L$ transactions and rezzing of no-copy items. Ops in investigating the matter, and will hopefully some further news shortly.

[3:00 AM - Update] For the time being this issue can’t be resolved and will require further investigation later this morning.
[1:00 AM - Update] Time for an update We are investigating expired_region_handoff error messages. This issue may prevent residents from crossing over or teleporting into an affected region. — Frontier
If you are experiencing this issue there is a work around you may try that involves setting the Start Location before connecting to Second Life.
- Go to Edit > Preferences on the menu bar
- Click the General tab
- Turn on the option Show Start Location on Login Screen
- Exit Second Life
- Launch Second Life, but don’t connect!
- Enter the name of the region you with to visit into Start Location
- Click Connect
A number of regions are experiencing failed teleports and region crossings. The issue is currently under investigation. If you encounter this issue, please contact support with the name of the affected region. At this point, other inworld services such as transactions are unaffected. Please stay tuned to this post for further updates.
[RESOLVED 12:44] The problem has been isolated and fixed, and things should be returning to normal shortly. Thank you for your patience!
There are currently ~700 regions offline. The issue is under investigation. Please monitor the blog for updates.
[ALL CLEAR 18:08 PST] We thank you for cooperating while we worked on our database. We have put the tools away and the database is humming again.
[REOPENED 17:32 PST] We have reports of transactions not completing. One of our databases is being checked and we will give an all clear as soon as possible. Until then it is best to refrain from transactions including land and L$ transfers.
[ALL-CLEAR 15:05] The database is happy again and the all-clear has been given. Inworld transactions and purchases can once again commence.
[UPDATE 14:48] Ops is working on the problem, and the database is again improving. Please continue to refrain from making inworld transactions however, until the all-clear is given again.
[REOPENED 14:30] The database is once again experiencing difficulties. Please refrain from inworld purchases and transactions until further notice. We will post progress reports as they become available.
[ALL-CLEAR 13:55] The issue has been addressed and the database is happy again. Inworld transactions and purchases can commence again.
[UPDATE 13:20] The issue has been identified, ops is working on it, and the database is improving. Please continue to refrain from making inworld transactions however, until the all-clear is given.
We are currently experiencing an issue affecting inworld transactions. Please refrain from making any purchases or transfers. We are investigating and will post additional information as it becomes available.
[4:30pm PST 2008-03-08] We’ve discovered the error that was ultimately responsible for residents receiving the aforementioned message. It has been corrected and you should no longer see this message. -Chiyo
We are aware Abuse Reports on the mainland are displaying a message saying that the AR is going to the estate owner, not Linden Lab, but please be assured they are still being received by our Governance Team. The cause is currently being investigated. We will follow up with further information as it becomes available.

The Public Issue Tracker will be down for a short while starting at 1:30 AM PST this morning. At this point the downtime is estimated to be less than 1 hour.
After receiving reports of various inworld inventory problems which have been affecting some residents, including the inability to take things from inworld and avatars reverting to a previous appearance, we have tracked the problem down to an issue with an inventory server which crashed slightly after 17:00. The issue has been identified and corrected and affected residents should find the situation has returned to normal. We appologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.
