Joppa Linden's Blog
[RESOLVED 2008-04-18 9:40am PST] - All issues are now resolved and you should be able to resume activities as normal, including website access.
We updated the configuration recently to attempt to improve performance. Unfortunately, the change appears to have decreased stability. We are reverting to the previous configuration and taking measures to minimize disruption. In the meantime, please avoid (and be aware of) in-world transactions timing out, teleporting being effected, logins failing, inability to change group tags, inability to rez or “Take” items.. among other issues. Please see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Service_Disruptions#Central_Database_Cluster for more technical info.
The website is also reporting the grid status as down and is, at times, preventing access to the Support Portal (as well as other areas). We are working as quickly as possible to restore services to their normal capacity.
Please watch this announcement for further information.
[RESOLVED 8:11 p.m. PST - kate] Over the next few days Operations will be putting out fixes to alleviate the load caused by continued use of our databases. We will be adding additional servers as quickly as possible and improving the performance of our database clusters. Until the servers are in place, it is good practice to check the blog for updates, particularly during peak hours of 12:00 pm. - 4:00 p.m.
[UPDATE 6:03 p.m. PST --teeple] Operations is still tracing the ultimate cause of today’s problems, but they’re down to a very short list of suspects. Our ability to broadcast in world is active now (*whew!*) so we’ll be sending periodic pointers to this post tonight until this is resolved.
[UPDATE 4:09 p.m. PST - kate] In world services are mostly available. There are still intermittent reports of stale transactions.
[UPDATE 1:40 p.m. PST --teeple] Behavior in world is generally more stable, but there are still fluctuations in reliability. We apologize for the ongoing significant inconvenience, and we’re working as quickly as possible to get to the point where we can announce an “all clear.”
[UPDATE 12:11 p.m. Pacific --teeple] The slowdown is also impacting ability to file or review Support tickets for some residents, and occasionally, access to the homepage. We’re working as quickly as possible to clear up this misbehavior.
*****

We are aware of multiple issues affecting the whole of Second Life and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible.
Please refrain from uploading textures or making any transactions for the time being. You may notice problems with logging into Second Life, grey textures/avatars, inability to Teleport, failing transactions.. among other things.
We will update this blog as soon as we have information to update with.
[Resolved - 3:45 PM (PST)] The database has been corrected and Transaction Histories are available once again.
[Update @ 1:43 PM on 2/29/08] The Search > People Tab feature that was disabled earlier is now fully operational. Thank you for bearing with us!
[Update @ 12:07 PM on 2/29/08] In order to continue to help resolve the current database issue cited below, we are turning off access to Search > People Tab only. We will restore access to this feature as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
There are issues currently affecting the database which may result in the inability to view Transaction History. It is being addressed and should be resolved shortly. Please keep an eye on this blog for more information as it becomes available.
[4:29 PM PST - Kate] In World Services are restored.
We are aware of reports of (and have experienced) a variety of issues from in-world. We suggest that you refrain from any major transactions at this time. You may experience the following (yet, not limited to) issues: failed teleports, region crossings, L$ transactions, notecards not saving, and items not rezzing.
We will update this blog with more information as it becomes available.
9:02 PM PST Login and teleport are working in the regions which were affected by this Network Issue.
There are network issues that are affecting approximately 450 regions. This translates to not being able to Teleport or Login to these regions. If you experience a related issue please try logging directly into a different region. If you do not have this available, it can be achieved by following these steps:
From in-world: Edit > Preferences > General tab > check Show Start Location on Login screen > Apply
From login screen: Preferences > General tab > check Show Start Location on Login screen > Apply
Then, when at the login screen, use the pull-down menu under your login information. Choose <Type Region Name here> and enter a region name (i.e., Cyclops, Sandbox Newcomb, Levenhall, Teal, etc..). If you are still unable to login, please try logging into a different region.
[Resolved] The issue has been corrected. In order to allow the correction to take effect upon your inventory, please Clear Cache (Edit > Preferences > Network tab > click Clear Cache button), followed by logging out and back in again.
Some residents may find additional folders in the top level of their Inventory. These folders are originating from the Library folder. Some of these folders may appear to have come from Alexandria Linden, but they are not originating from any Linden account and are simply copies from the Library.
Thank you for your understanding while we address this issue as expediently as possible.
We’ll be doing some maintenance to improve the capacity of our Asset Storage Cluster on Wednesday, 06 February, between 7am PST and 11am PST. There should be no discernible in-world effects from the procedure, but we wanted to let you know that it’s happening.
