Is there a way to play my own MP3’s or video’s in SL?
May 11th, 2008 at 6:54 AM
How abouts you stop posting these uselessness facts when we are not being able to login to the grids and you keep avoiding answering the peoples on getting refunds for your failings to deliver services relaibly ?
Why do you keep avoiding questioning on how it is illegal to play stuff for others broadcasting that you dont owns ?
Why dont you answer the people?
May 11th, 2008 at 7:32 AM
Once again an amusing and (for most ppl I guess) interesting vid tutorial by Torley. I must say, I’m getting to like this guy
I would have liked to have those tutorials at hand a year ago or so…
For guys like #2, why are you whining in EVERY post on this blog here? Can’t you imagine that in a company as big and multi-faceted like lindenlabs, there are different people for different tasks? I’m quite sure Torley isn’t one of those guys who plug the cables in, as well as the technicians are not doing anything in customer ralations’ fields.
I know that there are serious issues with the service, as well as there are serious ‘issues’ with customer relation management - but whining at Torley is for sure a useless action, so just stop howling in wrong directions.
To Torley: Keep up with your great work, I’m looking forward to the next tutorial (if it’s useful for me or not, doesn’t matter - I just like them) and maybe come around for a tea and lets swap some watermelons for bananas…
Y’all - have a great day,
Zag

Torley
Another good post. It’s sad that you do your job so well when it comes to communicating. It really emphysizes the lack of communications that is becoming so commonplace here. Most of us have simply given up on having a stable environment and are now looking at your examples for use in the next company’s stable/trustworthy environment. Please, by all means, keep up the good work. You are part of what a virtual world should be, and isn’t.

@3, “For guys like #2, why are you whining in EVERY post on this blog here?”
Couldn’t agree more and . . .
“Can’t you imagine that in a company as big and multi-faceted like lindenlabs, there are different people for different tasks? ”
No, and they never will, some people just like to whine to hear themselves whine either that or they are looking for some cheese to go with it
and to Torley, yes, please keep up the good work!

Any answer to Papadave Darwin’s question about streaming video?
May 11th, 2008 at 8:10 AM
@1 & 6 …. sure there are answers. If anyone needs a hand in configurating such things, you’re welcome to contact me inworld or by email through our website. This blog might not be the right place to discuss this
Sorry to occupy a second slot here, I could have said that before…
Have a great day, y’all,

Torley Linden , This is the real Usagi M usashi…. Not the person faking to be me and looking for problems…..Anyoe can see this troll is looking for problems and i hope Torley Linden gives it to him. Look at the small graphic and you can tell the fake U M from me. Stupid childish blog games for some is what his type lives for….
May 11th, 2008 at 9:04 AM
Hah, now we have Blog impostors trying to make it look like we’re angry at LL. This is an all new low for the whiners.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:13 AM
It seems that the person faking to be me indeed is not as smart as he thinks….They catch him sooner or later. But they need to plug this hole before more people continues to fake others on the blog……
May 11th, 2008 at 9:22 AM
As always another great video. Even the ones with information I can’t use yet I enjoy because you’re so fun to just listen to. I thank you for the video and many thanks for the web site links.
Ending the video with Iron Man FTW.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:35 AM
Hi Torley! Thanks for all the tutorials!
It would be more than awesome if media urls could be assigned to a prim, for portable media (vehicle/ipod-types, etc). This would be an “ex-streamly”
awesome thing to have in sl for a lot of reasons!
BTW, your index-card office furniture is way-cool, hehe
May 11th, 2008 at 10:17 AM
@Torley: You are certainly the most entertaining person on this blog. I have almost no use for many of the tips you make videos on, but I’ve still seen every video tutorial at least once. You never know when that kind of information can come in handy, right?
Keep up the good work.
—–
@2: I know you’re an impostor trying to be an idiot on purpose while simultaneously defaming another blog poster, and I should probably just ignore you so you get bored and leave, but nobody’s taking you seriously. Not just because of your horrible spelling and grammar, but because your horrible spelling and grammar is fake. Nobody talks like that; nobody has ever seriously said “posting these uselessness facts,” or “play stuff for others broadcasting that you dont owns.” And if that’s really how you talk, then I fear not only for you, but for anyone within your local government’s jurisdiction.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Hey Torley… I would just like to be able to log on right now.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Hmm, can we have the ability to log in, upload textures and not have failed transactions today?
That would be really great.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Can’t log in, before that scripts not saving. Really, how can you expect anyone to take this platform seriously unless you fix it? No notification of problems on Status Reports, we can’t post there either, so I guess all the posts will get filled until you have proper communication channels for this stuff.
I mean this is problems EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK now since Windlimp and Havoc were implemented.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:39 AM
is the grid currently screwed up? i can not wear or rez anything?
May 11th, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Since censorship prevents to comment on the appropiate part of SL, the Status’ blog, here will have to do… You get the “relog, it will solve it” message, which turns out to be a fake, AND, when you try to login, you get a message that the grid is down for maintenance and logins are restricted to employees; no info on that neither here nor at the Status blog. So, Wally Theodore Fergusson???? Aren’t we suppossed to see those things BEFORE they happen? SL is getting worse by the minute, that’s for sure…
May 11th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
Well this WOULD be useful information had the grid not been taken down for maintenance WITHOUT ANY WARNING.
Screw your heads back on already.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:49 AM
So many people worked so hard for events this afternoon and now they cannot log on. Torely if you have any personal integrity you will publicly resign from SL.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Lets see you do it Torley!
May 11th, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Come on have a sense of personal integrity for once.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Great, you have just managed to destroy without prior notice ANOTHER weekend day and all you do it posting tutorials about parcel music! awesome…
May 11th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Sunday…. I just spent 3 hours working on a project. I put on the project and started wearing it around, yay! Since I was wearing it, I assumed everything was alright and deleted my working copy in the world. I noticed the delete was going slow so I decided to log out and back in. Logged in to find me not wearing the project and no copy of the project in sight. Couldn’t believe my eyes, figured it was a glitch so I logged out again, and now can’t log back in. This is quite upsetting.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Made a frame grab Torley and waiting for your answer.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:54 AM
Seriously ridiculous, these problems aren’t just occasional, its every single day. Hand over SL to a company like Blizzard and watch how a mmorpg should be run.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:57 AM
So Torley… made a grab of 18 to 24 and that pretty well captures the past, present and future of SL don’t you think?
May 11th, 2008 at 11:57 AM
Can someone please post the link to the Hidden grid status page again please, It is annoying to relog only to find you can’t get back in, and all the blog has is another how to video. Please at least make a prominent link to grid status notices if you are to ashamed to post them in the main blog.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Ok, ·Resign Torley·, I know you’re upset; I am too, as you can see by my post, but what you’re doing is flooding this board; remember that there are only 150 comments per post, and you’re taking away someone else’s right to speack with every comment you do. So, besides being flood, and completelly idiotic (there’s no ther way), if you want him to resign, send him emails and flood his email tray…
May 11th, 2008 at 12:03 PM
The useless blog with full censorship is here, Very: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/
May 11th, 2008 at 12:03 PM
Come on Torley get this thing to work or get out.

I’ll say it before you do Linden Labs:
“Thank you for your continued patience”
while yet another days worth of selling anything or finishing a build is wasted-
REPEAT AFTER ME “M LINDEN”, OUR CUSTOMERS ARE PISSED AND WANT A REFUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:11 PM
OH BTW M Linden- this is the beginning of WEEK 7 of daily borks - when you going to fix it??????????
May 11th, 2008 at 12:23 PM
This is amazing. Truly amazing. Yes SL is down again. Yes I (like thousands of others) am irritated. So… the solution is– (let me make sure I got this right) for you to call for the resignation of someone in charge of VIDEO TUTORIALS? Someone whose job description hasn’t one iota to do with the asset cluster or any of the real reasons we’re down?
Wow. Hey here’s another idea. Blame the microsoft marketing department for problems with Vista. Or… blame the Toyota window manufacturer for problems with the engine. And then to put the cherry on the cake, blame the US farmers for the reason there is a national deficit.
Now careful not to hurt yourselves reading this post. It does after all require higher than a elementary education to understand this level of sarcasm.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Just 3 letters sum up my thought on your comment, Jared…
LOL
It was good
May 11th, 2008 at 12:30 PM
Get real. If they cannot deliver reliability, they should not waste our time with decoration. If you don’t get that, then good luck in whatever you think you will be doing in whatever career you think you might have.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Whine Whine! Ugh People Deal!
For those who actually got into the movie, this site offers TONNES of types of genres of music http://www.shoutcast.com/ choose a genre, click tune in and then do as Torley suggested @ 06:29 - Get the music URL (in Winamp)
Keep up the good work Torley
May 11th, 2008 at 12:42 PM
Pssst. It’s back up.
And I applaud your wise counsel. “Getting real” is a very good idea next time. Personally I recommend going for a walk or something instead of hovering over the blog board for an hour straight. Much more relaxing. Much less likely to lead to an early ulcer or heart attack. Kudos.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Business is business and if you don’t have reliability you don’t have a business. Simple as that. And when it comes to IPO, forget it if you don’t have it.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Music is good …whoo hoooo!!! All you whineing wankers and mealymouthed weenies need to listen to some!! Go outside!!! Call you MOM!!! Because all in all deep down in side you all loooove SL!! Yup yup yup you will be back tomorrow…. all the beautiful people that live here and love sl will plod along happy …or not ..hehe what ever your rp happens to beeee. And if your in it and just care only about the money well thats just pretty sad. HEY TORLEY!!!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER RESIGN!!! CAUSE WE LOVE YOU AND YOUR CRAZY OUTFITS AND DINGING BELL AND YOUR SUPERRIOR HELP.. FANTASTIC!!! You guys leave poor ole Torley alone!!! *Scowls looking quite feirce @ no one… Hehe take a chill pill you haters and go learn a program offline during the mean ole down time. So you can make more CRAZY cool things.
*WAves ciao
May 11th, 2008 at 1:06 PM
Numbers count. They always do.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:07 PM
Speaking of numbers… when will SL agree to an objective third party accounting of the real audience?
May 11th, 2008 at 1:35 PM
@ Resign:
Don’t you have anything better to do than spam the blog?
@ Torley:
Great video, as usual. Hopefully I can stay in-world long enough to use it.
- SDW ^..^
May 11th, 2008 at 2:07 PM
You know what, some of the comments I see on here really do surprise and disgust me. Thanks Torley for your wonderful and hard work, and for providing these much appreciated Vid Tuts! *gives you a sart* and everyone else spamming the Blog and wasting their time whining and moaning, which will do nothing constructive at all, stick a sock in it!
Oh and even though I still don’t really know what it means… FTW! rofl
May 11th, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Well finally somebody at LL found there was an issue.. after spending 40 mins (BEFORE THE ISSUE WAS ON THE STATUS PAGE) to support.
The reply was ‘Submiy a ticket’ .. hahahah
if you want the 40 mins of text chat I shall post on a blog near you soon !!
May 11th, 2008 at 2:32 PM
@42 that is how people who don’t know anything explain away what they don’t understand. Let me spell it out for you… if SL is not reliable it does not have a future. Is that clear enuf?
May 11th, 2008 at 2:34 PM
@ 45. Shut the hell up! That clear enough? Geez really I just don’t understand some people…
May 11th, 2008 at 2:45 PM
Torley, your video posts are informative and your exuberant presentation always makes me smile! I look forward to seeing them and thank you for your efforts.
As for the rest of you who are intent on slamming SL at EVERY opportunity, offering backhanded insults, and posting completely irrelevant and uncalled for comments to the blog; get over yourselves and spare the rest of us.
May 11th, 2008 at 2:50 PM
Try the grid status reports blog if you want grid status reports.
This is no longer the place for that. It has been moved to its own blog. Links to recent posts are on the left side of this page.
May 11th, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Absolutely amazing, 47 replies after mine, 90% of bullshit whiny cry babies. Can anyone constructively answer number 1 for me?
If you need somewhere to whine, go find your mommy. Should be easy enough considering the day!
Thanks
PD
P.S. Thanks again Torley for the videos, they’re great!
May 11th, 2008 at 4:10 PM
Attention Linden Labs:
Hate to tell you this but land sales are borked - logins are borked - rezzing objects is borked !!!
TWICE IN ONE FRIGGIN` DAY DUDES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After 7 weeks of this you would think you could “attempt” to even fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still waiting for you to refund my 54,000 ld a month tier !!!!@!!
May 11th, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Another cool video Torley, keep it up
May 11th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
@47 Phoenix, you forgot to include: impostoring other users on the blog and using up comment space for constructive comments.
They’ve hit a new low today. LL is now LESS likely to take their complaints seriously thanks to a few clowns and their ill-thought-out plans. Luckily I have a static IP because I’m behind a NAT and my Identicon will always be the same unless the ISP changes their IP.
Also excessive exclamation marks won’t make LL work any faster folks, have a cup of green tea and chillax. I’d hate to see what these people will be like when a Solar Storm wipes out the worlds electricity for a year.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Good to know, cause I just checked this yesterday and the knowledgebase claimed that PLS both did and did not work, depending on the exact page I was looking at.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:27 PM
Greetings!
In response to a few questions, in addition to my longer-term projects, I am very often around and paying attention at odd hours, even on weekends, doing things like watching the forums, listening and responding to your comments here in the blog, changing the in-world login screen Message of the Day each day and reminding you:
• Links to the Status Reports are in the top left side of this page, in the sidebar.
• Links to the Status Reports are in the Login page of the Viewer, so you’ll be sure to see them every time you log in.
• Lindens are certainly monitoring things, even on weekends, including, for instance, those designated to take care of any troubleshooting needed. In fact those are the folks who post the Status Reports, because they want to make sure you hear about problems as soon as possible.
• Status Reports are gathered in one place where you can check them without wondering if you missed an update.
• You can also subscribe to Status Reports feeds by RSS or Twitter so the notice *is delivered to you, as soon as it’s updated, even to your mobile phone*. This way you can get each update as quickly as we can make it available.

Katt, where are you going to take care of the Fake UM that is causing problems here> You can tell who is the fake and who is not……
May 11th, 2008 at 5:47 PM
OK…for those newbie techies…. the media world depends on truth…that is real world objective measures of actual media reach. SL must make itself open to outside measures of its actual reach (read about the definition of ‘reach’
if it is ever to become anything of consequence. Now, mind you, there are the California investors who are so typically bubble minded that they buy anything, but no person who is smart will ever invest in an IPO that is not subject to objective scrutiny.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Have no idea where that emoticon came from…just keep your eyes open.
May 11th, 2008 at 6:05 PM
Torley, I think I may have either missed something (will check soon =p ) or you are preparing some sort of MegatuTORial somehow related to Havok4. Call me silly and throw me in the toonhouse, but I’ve been noticing a few spots out around the Mainland where your name shows up on various things such as watermelony marbles, mellonshell chairs, and other such things. o..o
What’re you plannin’, eh? What… are you… plannin’. >_>

@ Amras. LMAO I’ve heard about that too… hehe
May 11th, 2008 at 7:00 PM
@1 and @51 (Papadave Darwin)
May be this wiki page can help: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Streaming_Music
May 11th, 2008 at 7:14 PM
@63 (me replying to Papadave)
Hm… i just read back the page and i am not so sure it can help, sorry.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:32 PM
Sorry it’s not my job to subscribe to anything. It’s your job to report on the goings on SL, like right now, when it does an unusual runtime error and borks on me. THANKS A BUNCH.
What a P.o.S.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:39 PM
Sorry to be off topic Torley.
I have created an official feature request to have the comments on the status site enabled. Please Login to the following link to add your comments and Vote…. Unless you vote it will NEVER get done..

Asset server problems
Posted by Status Desk on May 11th, 2008 at 07:41 pm PDT
[7:39 pm pacific] We are continuing to have problems with our asset server cluster. Please avoid any kind of financial transactions or attempting to rez no-copy objects.
Thank you for your continued patience and support in this matter.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:07 PM
Kate, how about you doing something about getting our communications back on the status reports? That was your plan as the linden of communications, right?
Hey, since Katt popped up, communications have only gotten worse, we cannot post at the status page anymore and now shes here to ‘compensate’ it. So far for the communications, bye bye communications.
Torley can stop making newbie videos now too.. since hardly anyone at the login pages sees this blog anymore, not many new people will find it.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:11 PM
“How abouts you stop posting these uselessness facts when we are not being able to login to the grids and you keep avoiding answering the peoples on getting refunds for your failings to deliver services relaibly ?
Why do you keep avoiding questioning on how it is illegal to play stuff for others broadcasting that you dont owns ?
Why dont you answer the people?”
Because they have a linden of communications thats why they ignore questions.
Oh and they like illegal broadcastings because they love copyright breaches just look at what they do with the DMCAs.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:15 PM
After the crash, had to hard boot my computer, now I can’t either a) log in or b) it’s going to take more than 10 minutes to log in.
So I guess in a couple hours, they will tell us that SL was down for this and that reason and that it’ll be resolved in 30 minutes when it will actually take 2 to 3 more hours. Yeeeeeah…
May 11th, 2008 at 8:16 PM
Any chance of a video on the definition of the word “resolved”.
Maybe a video on how not to sound sarcastic when apologising to legitimate complaints. Seriously.
A video on how much 2.2% of the many thousands of dollars you collected in april is and how they will be spent on changing from mySQL to a proper scalable database.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:16 PM
hey! what happens? i cannot log in, what’s the problem? i’m getting tired with this
May 11th, 2008 at 8:18 PM
we spend money here… you don’t invest it on the servers… that’s a pity
May 11th, 2008 at 8:20 PM
I feel sorry for anyone who spends alot of money on this piece of crap. I joined up last year and it was NOTHING like it is now. So who’s fault is this and direct me to ‘em so I can slap em around a bit.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:21 PM
Great vids Torley.
ps: What on earth made you think moving blogs about the grid off the main site was better communication lol
Move the other stuss off the main site and keep the grid blogs here they are the only ones that matter.. inless you need to hide them off site…
May 11th, 2008 at 8:24 PM
so good things will to play
May 11th, 2008 at 8:25 PM
From what I heard in the group chats tonight ppl are not interested in anything besides stability.
I understand you have a job to do Torley but you might be better served at this time with your own heading “Torley’s world” at the top of the SL.com web.
Server asset issues plague LL again this weekend. Yet we are given no place to discuss, or complain. Katt really you can post the status all over the net but honestly it doesn’t help much when that news comes 5 hours after the fact.
Someone get the servers a real tech please.

@74 Angelic said: “I joined up last year and it was NOTHING like it is now.”
Oh really ? Don’t you remind the Wednesday updates and how much everyone enjoyed ?
_______________
@73 Cacho said: “we spend money here… you don’t invest it on the servers… that’s a pity”
How can you be so affirmative please ? Some figures are needed here: When i joined the number of connected residents was around 25,000 at peak hours, whereas today this figure goes beyond 50,000. So yes they “probably” did some investment and upscale.
Now i agree with you that big improvements remain to be done.
_____________
@ Linden-labs: Would it be possible that you disclose a committed roadmap on what will be implemented overall so that the system is more reliable. The important word here is - of course - “committed”.
As for myself, being an end-user, i am not interested in knowing details about bits and bytes and “hows” , and i do not think residents have to interfere with technology choices and architectural directions (that would be a useless source of ironical comments and of boring “gurus” posts). I am only interested in knowing that at milestoned committed dates you can FULLY ensure progressive reliability, scalability and performance of the entire system.
May 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM
One last post (sorry to take much place here) :
The roadmap could be published on a regular basis (weekly or bi-monthly, or other) together with a Milestone Trend Chart. That would allow us customers/users to gain visibility on how progress is going and on whether the initial baseline dates would be matched or not.
I guess that is not too much demanding, and also, that is the way most IT divisions process with their end-user base.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Katt,
I believe I have mentioned this before. If something is declared [RESOLVED] only to have teh very same problem reoccur shortly thereafter it was never [RESOLVED] in the first place. Please instruct the people who are posting the status reports on the meaning of the word [RESOLVED]
[RESOLVED] Asset server problems
Posted by Status Desk on May 11th, 2008 at 12:40 pm PDT
[12:39 am - RESOLVED] Our asset problem has been rectified now. In-world activities should no longer be affected.
[RESOLVED] Asset server problems

[8:42 pm pacific] Asset servers are returning to their proper operating state. The road may still be a bit bumpy for a little while, but a smooth ride will soon be returning.
[7:39 pm pacific] We are continuing to have problems with our asset server cluster. Please avoid any kind of financial transactions or attempting to rez no-copy objects.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:01 AM
There are a couple of requirements you need to be able to play your own music inworld:
1. your own shoutcast stream (there are available streams for rent just search inworld or on google)
2. winamp
Thank you for the video Torley! You make it easier for me to learn more than the basics of SL!
AND BECAUSE COMMENTS IN THE RECENT POST HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED, I DEDICATE THE REST OF MY POST TO THOSE WHO WANT TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE ABYSMAL PERFORMANCE LAST MONTH: SL as a service is unique and therefore not a very “predictable” product. They can’t possibly offer any money-back guarantee on a platform that they haven’t really perfected yet. Sure our ISPs or any other appliance provide us with reimbursement or a warranty for every failed service, but SL is not like some oven toaster with a warranty. SL is the ONLY thing like it, and until a platform like SL is commonplace and stable, NO ONE SHOULD BE EXPECTING TO GET THEIR MONEY BACK.
Unless SL CLAIMS THAT THEIR SYSTEM IS PERFECT AND WITH NO ERRORS, and something borks despite of that claim, THEN THAT’S WHEN WE SHOULD ALL BE REIMBURSED! AS IN WE…ALL RESIDENTS WITH AMPLE TIME INWORLD, WHETHER THEY OWN A BUSINESS OR NOT. ANYONE WHO SPEND MORE THAN 1L$ BUYING CLOTHES, ACCESSORIES, SCRIPTS, SKINS, ETC AND IS MAKING THE WHOLE SL ECONOMY THRIVE.
SL DOESN’T CLAIM TO BE PERFECT OR STABLE AS A ROCK. SL IS JUST TRYING TO PROVIDE A TECHNOLOGY THAT IS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME, AND PERHAPS EVEN WAY AHEAD FOR ANY OF US TO FULLY UNDERSTAND. IT IS MORE THAN A GAME, BECAUSE IT IS SO FLEXIBLE THAT IT CAN BE A GAME WITHIN A GAME. IT IS MORE THAN A BUSINESS PLATFORM, A WAY TO COLLABORATE, COMMUNICATE AND INTERACT. IT IS MANY THINGS.
So before the naysayers throw their pitchforks at me, I want to clarify that I have many friends who have huge businesses in SL, and I am next to hardcore as a user, so I really really REALLY understand that we are in need of our SL FIX, but I don’t make unnecessary comments and make other well meaning Lindens resign.

@VERDANA: I like what you are proposing. Perhaps the incoming CEO can provide us that and will ensure that LL stays on the road map, now that Philip is now dedicating himself in the technical aspects of the platform, and can lead from there, perhaps the road map would be easier to follow.

Katt, with all due respect, the SL ‘problem page’ wasn’t moved for our convenience - to have it all in one nice little place for us all to be able to access easier, it was moved so you could try and make these pages have a more positive feel for the sake of of SL and bad publicity, hiding all the problems you are having. As mentioned previously by many people, all problems are now hidden away on a little page no one can comment on while you post such worthwhile posts here as video training on features that are usually down because of problems and new roads you have built. I know which, out of the two, the majority of residents would say were most important…
May 12th, 2008 at 12:26 AM
I agree with you Isadora, but not for the matters you bring to argue. I fear that no company will ever claim their products is perfect (unless they want to bankrupt on purpose - lol)
So then, why is refunding not justified to me (skipping the TOS that does not matter here) :
1) Even though admitting the downtime in April can possibly be rounded up to some 3%, all that is far from being a tragedy.
2) Residents that claim for refund are not innocent “newbies” that were taken by surprise. For a large majority they are more likely in here since over a couple of months. That means they definitely knew the system was at time unstable (January or February this year were a bit fuzzy too, if i am correct).
3) In the end, they willingly put their money here, with full knowledge that it might fail.
4) There is no point #4

@85 Carrie said: “As mentioned previously by many people, all problems are now hidden away on a little page no one can comment on”
Why do you absolutely want to comment and discuss technical issues ?
Is it of any interest and benefit for residents to pinpoint for hours that that some computer went down or that a network link failed ?
And above all, would those discussions/complaints (together with a good dose of pitiful ironical statements) solve the problem ? am afraid no.
We all want a more reliable system that is one thing for sure. But endless small talk on current issues will not have us get rid of them by magic.

because Verdana it is not [Resolved] and continues to perform as poorly as it does now. this is utter crap if i am paying for a service and i should be allowed to voice my opinion

Hello, you mind making an annoucement that the data clusters are once again having problems and to not rez nor make purchases at this time?
THANKS!

Once again you can’t log in and expect - two blog entries to the contrary - that you will have hair or shoes or whatever. I just negotiated a network support agreement that says 99.9 % up or money back and here I can’t expect two days out of three. Its like I went to work and every other spreadsheet was unavailable and tech support says, never mind, use the other one and besides, you can come back tomorrow.
The big, big difference is, at work that tech support would be on the streets looking for his or her next job and we would have someone that got the job done.

So has SL cleared their playing music through their servers with the RIAA or at least ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, JASRAC and other publishing bodies around the world?
Even if you are just playing the radio over a loudspeaker in a store, hotel lobby etc, you owe these outfits money (stores such as The Gap have been successfully sued by ASCAP for this, for example). I hope that SL has done the legal due diligence and informed sim owners about this before they get dinged for back royalties, which, by the way, just went way up thanks to an obscure governmental committee decision this past month.
Again, it doesn’t matter what source you are getting the music from. The fact that you play it in any world means you have to send the publishers some shekels unless there is some arrangement that SL has made with copyright holders. Unfortunately, this tuturial doesn’t go into that.

By the GODS! Is there ANYTHING you guys CAN’T screw up?? HOW MANY MONTHS is this BS with the ASSet servers going to go on? (and don’t attempt to quote me news releases - I’ve WORKED in PR and I KNOW it’s all BS Propoganda (the old ‘tell them what they want to hear’).
Now I am DAMN SURE you guys have Federal US funding (hence all the constant boneheaded “ideals” and “policies” you kids have been attempting to pawn off on the public. You guys are so much like MicroCrap it’s disgusting!
You carry a TOTAL disregard for what the PUBLIC wants and like “democracy, you LIE and DECIEVE those you work for. Give your heads a bloody shake, FIRE THOSE MORONS that are TRIPPING over their own FEET claiming that they “know” what they are doing and HIRE PROFESSIONALS WITH EXPERIENCE - screw the university brats - they may be book smart but they have NO VALID EXPERIENCE at all.
If the US STILL had a Better Business Bureau, you guys would be BACK in Future Shop, Circuit City and WALMART where you belong.

linden ims sure you know how many stolen Abyss items are out there, but do you care? We have not seen one bit of help for poor Khai Sinister. You are so cruel.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:57 AM
…but when it comes tto *your own* trademarks no effort is too much to stop people from violatting it. But my oh my, if only the companies investing in Linden Labs would know this eh?
oh yeah thats why you got the blog out of sight, you don’t want you businesspartners to see how selfish you are protecting your own trademarks and making empy promises about the DMCA to the residents. They shouldn’t know right that linden labs (and especially the sims of some country a well known ripper is from) is full of copyright violations and linden labs doesn’t cares at all. That would be bad publicity rights. Anything for the money.

linden labs doesnt cares about copyright or trademark violations of others , as lomg as their own trademark is safe. they don’t follow up the DMCA and have removed the ‘how to report trademark violations (from other trademark holders than theirs)’ webpage from the knowlegde base. They now only have an article about *their* trademarks but who cares about the trademarks of others?
it even looks like they enjoy these kinds of violations.
linden labs sucks and katt will never give an answer anyway, she doesn’t communicates, like sidewinder. Fire katt, hire another. It shouldn’t be that hard to find someone with normal communicating skills like sidewinder who gwas able to get the trust of residents.

Hello verdana,
regarding my comment, i wanted to REMIND people of what SL and LL is: NOT PERFECT, and thus not subject to be financially responsible for their SL business loss. It is THEIR responsibility to WORK ON STABILITY.
2 & 3. I agree. We know all too well that there will be glitches in SL, it’s in the TOS, and that the TOS ultimately says to watch out for our own a**es for a platform that is still in beta stages. It’s a HUGE risk and if you don’t have the guts to bear with it, no compensation and all, then you are not meant to put your business in this game, or for the matter in RL. Don’t forget that in RL there are also risks much worse than what one can and will encounter with and in SL.
Oh, since I’m commenting in Torley’s post:
TORLEY, can you make more sky settings for Windlight??
May 12th, 2008 at 2:12 AM
They said that voice would not affect the grid. Personally I think that’s a big lie and not the first to be told. All I think we ask for is rather simple. We want you to completely cease in the additions of new features and the kissing of big cooperate asses. We your customers for years have generated your business and in turn you have helped us make ours. It’s a symbiotic relationship. If you piss us off and undermined our businesses guess what? We both suffer.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:13 AM
As someone who has worked in and studied the music industry I feel qualified to comment. Linden Research are in no way liable to pay royalties. Their simulator tells your client which stream to connect to. The person playing the music is the one responsible for PRS or equivalent in their own country. On top of that the whole internet radio debate is so much bigger than trying to shoe horn in an argument against the linden gods.
If you wasn to argue for the sake of it pick up on their actial weakneses like shoddy communication, poor customer service and generally fobbing people off.

reposting EDITED version for CLARITY:
Hello verdana,
regarding my comment, i wanted to REMIND people of what SL and LL is: NOT PERFECT, and thus not subject to be financially responsible for their SL business loss. It is LL’s responsibility to WORK ON STABILITY for the sake of their survival and if they care about it, ETHICS. Personally, that should suffice.
If they are stable enough, then they should be able to offer a money back guarantee or a reimbursement for something that goes wonky all of a sudden, sort of like what some brands of really sticky glue would do or some outrageous “as seen on tv” products do (as if we would run over an airbed with a tractor to prove that the bed is REALLY durable)…lol.
and since I mentioned ETHICS, i think the issues on content theft should be resolved sooner rather than later.
