New Release Candidate Viewer: 1.20 RC2 Available
Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 4:44 PM by: Bridie LindenHappy Friday everyone!
A new 1.20 Release Candidate Viewer (RC2) is now available with fixes based on issues reported in RC0 and RC1. Please visit the test software page to download the Second Life 1.20 (RC2) Release Candidate viewer.
The Linux viewer crashes on startup found in RC1 have been fixed and the Korean, Japanese and German viewer crashes found in RC1 have also been addressed. Source code will be available for download soon.
We’re still working on a complete fix for the Mighty Mouse issue, but in the mean time, if you are experiencing issues, try this:
- From the Edit menu > select Preferences > choose the Input & Camera tab
- Click on ‘Joystick Setup’ button
- Un-check the checkbox ‘Enable Joystick’
One known issue for Mac users, but with a workaround:
- Release Notes launch every time 1.20 RC2 is started on Mac
- To stop this from happening, launch RC2, dismiss the Release Notes, and quit Second Life without logging in
- Release Notes will not appear on the next start of the RC2 viewer
As a reminder: Release Candidate viewers are optional updates that contain the latest round of bug fixes and/or soon-to-be-released new features. Please download the Second Life 1.20 (RC2) Release Candidate viewer only if you’re interested in helping us test these optional viewers.
Changes:
- Record Movie to Disk option missing intentionally removed (VWR-6315)
- Color changes to improve text contrast in title bar, scroll bar and menu highlight
- Updated disabled button art
- Updated login/teleport progress screen art and colors
- Set the top-level ‘opaque’ parameter to false in menu_viewer.xml
Fixes:
- Fixed: VWR-6576: panel_speaker_controls.xml broken for german, korean, japanese viewers
- Fixed: VWR-6298: Some RC settings don’t persist properly when settings.xml is present
- Fixed: VWR-6265: Various communications preferences arent saved
- Fixed: VWR-3822: ATI crashes on startup when in 16 bit color mode
- Fixed: VWR-6251: Snapshots no longer able to capture the full screen.
- Fixed: VWR-6430: Comment area of “Debug Settings” floater (dialog box) is aligned badly
- Partial Fix: VWR-5080: Dazzle: certain color combinations hard on visually impaired (and the not-visually-impaired)
- Fixed: VWR-6232: Tap-Tap-Hold Running should be an ‘Advanced’ character preference
- Fixed: 2 missing node names in mime_types.xml
- New art for progress bars
- Fixed: Disabled buttons are darker than normal
- Fixed: Better distinguish button-depressed from disabled state
- Fixed: Age Verified Account cannot access plots blocked for age verification
- Fixed: Voice can become totally disabled aftrer using multiple viewers
- Fixed: Korean files floater_buy_object.xml and panel_voice_enable.xml have a leading CRLF before XML declaration
- Fixed: Lag Meter help and close buttons hidden offscreen
- Fixed: can not take hi-res snapshot with size bigger than 4k by 4k.
- Fixed: Eliminate unused xml files in skinsxuien-us and language folders
Please continue to report any new issues in the Issue Tracker. Be sure to set “Affects Version/s” to “1.20 Release Candidate“. Resident participation is always welcome at our weekly (Wednesdays @ 3pm PDT time) inworld bug triages, too!

I still crash on login with this version. So, still… dead in the water. See: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6581

That is very nice, if SL was not so messy, no TP, besides other issues. But, that is life, at least SL(tm) life, always messy.

w00t, fixes for the snapshot window
April 18th, 2008 at 4:59 PM
I don’t care what the interface looks like - I just want it to friggin work!!!!
There seems to be more work done on what the damned colours and pictures are than whether group chat works, groups load, tp failures end etc…
And you don’t address ANY of the main mac issues in the list - I don’t give 2 hoots about the damned changes list - but I do give a billion of them about the viewer working.
As an RC this should be used to work on working functionality improvements - testing them - not playing with the interface…
All that shows is that you don’t know what the frig you’re doing - so you play with pictures and colours to try to prove you know something - NOT WORKING people - bad strategy.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
Glow isn’t working for me in this viewer. And I tried all graphics settings and custom too in Preferences.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
I hate to post out of context.. but I cant save anything or take it to inventory without losing it… i cant even give it a name…
profiles are borked… seems inworld services are on fritz for like the umpteenth time in as many hours…
April 18th, 2008 at 5:07 PM
will i stop crashing every 5 minutes if i have more than 2 prims on?
April 18th, 2008 at 5:08 PM
“The Linux viewer crashes on startup and the Korean, Japanese and German viewer crashes have been addressed.”
Alas, English is ambiguous, and my experience with this RC seems to indicate that I should parse this sentence as making two claims:
1. The Linux viewer crashes on startup.
2. The Korean, Japanese, and German viewer crashes have been addressed.
because I’ve tried to log on with this client twice, and both times, it crashed on startup, which appears to confirm (1).
April 18th, 2008 at 5:13 PM
OK, Look LL we don’t need to know what you think you fixed, but please tell us whatyou screwed up this time.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:19 PM
I see you`ve still not fixed the problems that some of us “ladies”* have when wearing skirts.
Ahalfa
* the term “ladies” is of course subjective. You could be a bloke wearing a skirt - I dont mind; whatever floats your boat (as they say)
April 18th, 2008 at 5:21 PM
>>Fixed: VWR-6232: Tap-Tap-Hold Running should be an ‘Advanced’ character preference
VWR-6232 is still open on JIRA as far as I know. Votes are piling up for that feature to be removed (or else the default to be OFF).
Many long standing products are using tap-tap-hold for custom moves; if this implementation doesn’t actually break them, no more scripters will dare use that key in the future. Not mentionning that it’s going to cause confusion with current users, and it’s bothersome to ask customers to disable it.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:26 PM
I CANNOT believe you didn’t fixed this yet. This is causing me serious trouble with building. And it’s no RC, this affect the official release too!

I see a lot of complaints and I certainly understand but they make it very clear that this is RC (Release Candidate) software which is typically one step above BETA.
RC software still has bugs and requires multiple updates before it goes GOLD. I would suggest 1.19.14 for those who don’t have the stomach for RC software. It’s just the way new pieces are introduced.
There are still bugs - report them that is why you see things fixed and updated.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:32 PM
Crashed 1 sec after login again, just as I did with the last RC viewer. No Linux or ATI here, I’m on an 64-bit XP with NVIDIA 7600 GS.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Does this RC have the spacenavigator support?
April 18th, 2008 at 5:41 PM
Skirts STILL refusing to attach…I can’t help but think of all the poor ladies who are in weddings this weekend. :/ And what about making “Log Chat” a click-box that STAYS clicked after the next login?! I agree with all those that say “enough tinkering with the color scheme and PLEASE fix *real* issues that impact users!”
April 18th, 2008 at 5:43 PM
System Skirts are broken have comment and voted on JIRA.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:51 PM
Ok and I still can’t wear skirts, the disappear 5 seconds after I rez them … and if someone tells me to rebake textures again I’ll scream … that works for about 15 seconds and I’m naked again. Fix the bugs … it does no good to keep making things prettier without making sure we can actually see the pretty:

this is getting worse and worse.
apparently anti-aisiling is non existant in this? everything is suddenly blocking and im making a jira for it as the other client ( standard ) works fine.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:54 PM
if you wanna wear skirts use the normal viewer duh

Jaggies???????
I just installed (and yeah- uninstalled old rc- cleared cache and all that)- and seeing everything without antialiasing… My nvidia 8800 is set to override any app setting and still seeing jagged shapes- the antialiasing feature doesn’t seem to work.
Please tell me that this is my fault….

hmm???? The official version seems to be ok in this regard..
Any takers?

April 18th, 2008 at 6:01 PM
wow first time i ever saw a sl viewer go black screen shutting off the video.
i don’t know what you people did but this is not a release candidate. I suggest you start calling it unit testing versions and then go back to having beta tests long before you start calling something a release candidate.
fyi… your never going to find a balance between ati and nvidia. i recommend you drop support for ati and simply say if ati works then great, if it doesn’t upgrade to nvidia if you want to be in sl.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:03 PM
Everything worked fine until this new release. What a nightmare-freezing, driver crashes (and I do have the latest drivers for NVIDIA 8600) I luv SL but am getting ready to walk after these past two weeks
April 18th, 2008 at 6:06 PM
How do you manage to freeze my whole computer? This viewer does it EVERY time.
Dell XPS m170 nVidia Geforce Go M 6800 Ultra with latest driver.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:10 PM
Holy Jaggies Batman!
AA is non existant in this as it was disabled by default and turning it on has no effects, it overides my Nvidia drivers, for a second there i thought I was playing SL on a Nintendo 8-bit.
Def not worthy of a RC2 name can we at least quickly fix this and release RC2.1?
April 18th, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Once again Anne Otoole decides that whole rafts of people should be cut from SL. Last time it was a router block on the entire country of Brazil, this time it’s discontinue support for ATI video cards.
What will be next I wonder?
April 18th, 2008 at 6:14 PM
The viewer 1.20.2.85278 has quit(crashed) 6 times in the last 30 minutes. Sometimes before even having fully booted. The crash report doesn’t seem to be appearing after the crashes either.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:14 PM
I agree with Storm (#13). It is an RC viewer, I went back to the 1.19 standard viewer after the changes to the UI.
I didn’t mind the old interface as I’d been using it for years, and the colors weren’t outstanding.
Now I get RAAAAAAAAAR UI SMASH…
What’s wrong with making different color schemes to pick from? Y’know… options. I like options, that I can opt to use. Optionally. (hint hint) Leaving the original UI as an option to switch between would be great. I’m perfectly happy with it in the 1.19 viewer.
Maybe give me options to change colors of things, much like I can change all sorts of chat text colors already.
Just a thought.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:17 PM
If anything gets sent to me I crash. I cannot seem to stay logged in. I haven’t been able to TP in over 2 months but at least if I stayed put I could do things. *screams*
April 18th, 2008 at 6:23 PM
erm.. can’t you please STOP improving what isn’t working well and fix what we do have? Using the regular client (2/08 version-since 4/08 crashes me -even with all the settings changes I could come up with)I am stuck in a basket with a teddy bear and can’t get out- can’t TP, friends list doesn’t load, IM drops the first part of each sessions talk, etc. I understand Pastrami’s data and paint thing–pretty skies don’t impact the structure underneath BUT BUT when you change things so much it has to impact the rest. Somedays this feels like
Michael Jackson’s face–enough with the changes!
April 18th, 2008 at 6:26 PM
Thank you Hevenz (#27) for showing me me that I’m not alone with the AA issue.
Its really unfortunate, that due to all of these tech issues, our comments can only be reactionary. Meaning- we are left with little choice but to focus on major problems.
If things were different we would be able to make comments and suggestions for enhancing the experience…..
Right now- we are barely able to have any experience…. shame…
And while I’m at it… what’s happening with the whole smartheap memory issues?
Ok- thanks for reading all and good luck.

I propose that Project DAZZLE be on immediate HOLD until color sliders are introduced. Dazzle is too bright for me. I don’t want to be forced to use this UI in a few months.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:31 PM
I tried, didn’t like it, went back to old default client that has no windlight, nor blue interface.
I’m all good with old fashion SL default client.
Thanks.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:31 PM
The Second Life Release Candidate Wont let me log in. And it looks like others are ether able to log in and i don’t is the viewer only black screen and the Name, Last Name, Password.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:32 PM
The Linux RC2 viewer lags AND crashes, just like the last one (which could not be blogged about because the blog limit was reached with RC0, which wouldn’t run at all).
I can’t use this piece of because of this. I will continue to try them as they come out, but I can only report it here if the 150 post limit hasn’t been reached before coming out with the next one.
Btw, I do like the interface colors. They make it waaay easier to find menu options than the old one.

Nothings changed with the new version,
Still crashing, still have rezzing problems, still stealing money from residents and my glass of milk is still sour, it’s powdered milk too.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:46 PM
laughs…….ati and nvidia?
The game has been Pro nvidia for a very long time. Where have you been hello? BTW i been getting running errors AGAIN with this new client what in the *** are you people doing????????????
April 18th, 2008 at 6:46 PM
Most people do not understand, this viewer is more then playing with pictures! the UI as I understand, has been decoupled from the rest of the rendering engine. adding new UI look was probably just a “We are here we should just do it” kind of thing.
Not to mention the people working on it are probably not well suited to work on the Grid infrastructure & Server Code, it would be like a lawyer doing a doctors job.
When will people spend the time reading the blog posts instead of jumping right to the comments?
Peace,
~Soma

Seeing FSAA broken here as well, on Mac, so this is a cross platform issue.
Come on guys, stop giving us cool features and then breaking them on the next release.
Thank goodness for –channel.

Dear Lindens,
are you sure this is a RELEASE candidate?
Hum…what about ALPHA?
Oh my…
April 18th, 2008 at 6:54 PM
@40 many felt like you. But after away people started getting upset and mad because of the all the problems. 4 years almost and i never seen things this bad……….Nobody likes depressing remarks like this, but LL made it this way……….
April 18th, 2008 at 7:01 PM
@24 said : ” i recommend you drop support for ati and simply say if ati works then great, if it doesn’t upgrade to nvidia if you want to be in sl. ”
Pushing up a bit that kind of so-called ‘argument’ can lead to puzlling things such as :
- Linux users should forget it in install XP or Vista;
- Mac users should do the same
- Whenever your ISP is not able to offer you more than a 2Mb DSL, well just go to another ISP
- etc…
I suggest some residents think a lil bit more before they write on this here blog
April 18th, 2008 at 7:03 PM
Ugh… please fix the broken Antialiasing, or at least allow people to roll-back to the previous RC to use it - non AA isn’t very conducive to picture-taking.

Very nice, i can login again. but
The colours from the viewer are ugly. This means, change it back to the old style or make it variable.
Why i can use 1600 x 1200.. there is only 800×600 possible.. my desktop is 1600 x 1200.. and it works in last version too..
..ty for your patience to read

April 18th, 2008 at 7:09 PM
Bank Robber: the skirt issue is in the production viewer too. It’s been a long-standing issue, well documented, JIRA’d, voted upon..but still broken
April 18th, 2008 at 7:11 PM
While i liked RC1
this one is kinda useless for fashion designers. the “MAKE OUTFIT” option is freezing up more often as a naked Eskimo and therefore the outfit becomes incomplete.
Another basic feature bites the dust!
Not sure why you are always rushing things, and release it without proper tests, it honestly doesn’t build up the Linden Labs ® reputation and it is certainly counterproductive for Second Life™
We’ve been promised an off switch for the darn group chat! When is that going to be featured?
April 18th, 2008 at 7:24 PM
@10 - skirts are important to guys as well, some of our coat bottoms are on the skirt layer.
And for the ATI folks (I’m sorry, I left that bandwagon long ago), don’t feel bad, if you have an Nvidia card you can’t stay online long anyway - it just crashes repeatedly. Last time, I was AFK in an empty sim - so wasn’t moving, wasn’t cameraing, nothing, came back to found it had crashed…again…for like the 15th time today

Hello Person whose job it is to read all these comments on behalf of Bridie. Or maybe even Bridie! Either way, I hope you are having a lovely day and that you had nice things on your sandwiches. I am finding a few problems with the new viewer, but I am going to go and look for them on the jira, and vote for them or report them, rather than shout at you here. That’s why I downloaded the release candidate alongside the normal viewer; because I wanted to learn to help and to inform and to develop things.
I hope that people stop shouting at you, or if they choose not to, that you know that you are lovely and they are not understanding properly what was meant by ‘release candidate’. Maybe they are feeling a little poorly, or they have had some bad news.
Anyway, I hope your Friday night is a cool one
With lots of affectionate sl hugs…. cos…. my rl is like that… so I don’t know why my sl wouldn’t be…

I am not even going to bother downloading this one. Sounds like they made some color tweaks and broke a bunch more features. The fact that making superficial changes breaks major features means their code stinks. Come on LL, get a new CEO and CTO so they can fire the lot of you.
If you more usability take a look at the latest from Nicholaz. He fixed most of the major bugs in a weekend. i.e. the skirt bug, memory leak and Dumshit-izzle.

Would like to congratulate Linden Labs on yet another fine move on their behalf. It’s so great all the positive things Linden Labs have been doing the past few weeks. Keep up the great work Linden Labs…. Can’t wait for more stale money so I don’t have to pay my campers….

When grabbing a linkset and camming around, the linkset appears to move slightly. I sure hope that’s a bug and not some SL feature-itis thing you guys think is “neat”.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:59 PM
This new RC crashes immediately when logging in. I wanted to see if the Dazzle interface wasn’t as bad as it had been before, but it is hard to tell. From what I could see from the login page it is still pretty bad.

1) These updates have NEVER been optional for me. I am REQUIRED to download them to get into SL.
2) I downloaded the latest viewer and have done nothing but crash ever since! Now, it’s gotten to where I simply crash on log in.
3) I am a Mac used and not once have the release notes come to me.
4) Grrr. I’m frustrated!!!

“Fixed: Voice can become totally disabled aftrer using multiple viewers”
Well, it certainly isn’t fixed on my machine, sigh. I couldn’t tell if anything else claimed to be fixed was, though, because I crashed within 5 minutes. Back to 1.19 again, joy joy.

Why pay Campers at all? Simply have them sitting there, wasting the hours away,… and when the time is up and they hold their hands out, shake the hand vigorously and shout, “Hey! Thanks for stopping by our on-going Region-wide experiment. See ya!”
Tiny that hiney.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:40 PM
OMG, this latest version and the previous 1.20 release are massively buggy. I have crashed 20 times in two days using it. Reverting to 1.19.0.5 works fine. I have not been able to attribute the crash to any specific event. Sometimes just logging in crashes a few moments after connecting inworld. You should be receiving the crash logs, and I hope they contain sufficient clues. I have noticed the process exhibits the behavior of a massive memory leak.
And, WindLight (or whatever harsh object/land clipping change introduced arond 1.19.1) still sucks. Land is still rendered as shiny water irrespective of shaders settings including all off.
In writing this comment, the viewer crashed 6 times while I was just trying to copy and paste the following:

Is there already a jira for the Statistics Bar not remembering its location of size? I hoped something this simple would have been fixed for this RC!
And, of course, consensus has it, the Dazzle colors are still gross! Why not make it a feature to have a variety of skins instead of just one? Of course that is a good idea and a bad idea. It would be good for those who want the old style colors or a little variety, it would be bad because it probably would not be done right.
Grrrr.

I use Windlight client since it first came out (well after the 3rd test version of WL)…
1.20 series makes me crash REALLY often… Never can I remember me crashing that much. Whatever you did… is not good… sigh…
Here’s my details (tried to put on jira but I crashed for no reason again and I’m annoyed now to look on jira…
I am sure 100s of people have the same problems on NVIDIA cards.
Also… you put a new version out… but you do not even fix the LOG checkboxes bug that’s mentioned (state of checkbox button in log communications preferences dialogue is not saved).
Sigh sigh sigh sigh… this client needs a lot to be fixed before it goes live… it’s not good right now!

I wasn’t crashing a lot until i downloaded the new version tonight. On a side note it seems lately the new viewers are having lots of issues with various graphics cards. I am hoping this is resolved quickly … Otherwise it makes no point to go into SL using the new viewers if all one experiences are crashes. Thats not even testing them effectively for LL. Unless the tests are based on crashes per interaction and time hehe. Thankfully the regular client still functions =)

yep it seems that most of the fixes are cosmetic or things that really dont address the function on the viewer. I bet they spent most of their time on the f..ing joystick controller. They just did the cosmetic stuff so cause they are easy and it looks like they did something. What about the camera, its super buggy and its the most obvious problem. The camera view jumps in and out. As far as im concerned the camera should never move in or out whether a wall is behind u or not.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:02 PM
WOW this version is horrid, may I say again HORRID!!! i crash on everything IM’s inventtory, scrolling, TPing, other people send me a tp and i crash!!! never seen a viewer so retarded…I even crash on loging OUT!!! START FIXING THINGS not BREAKING THEM!!!!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
First look I see the grade school artists are still picking the colors
Change the background for inventory so that it has some contrast it is a washout now
Kill the totally useless release keys button dump it in the drop downs
Why is take a snapshot on the menu bar and in the drop down and on a hot key clean up the menu bar
Put fly back on the movement icon at least you load them by default now and for you who say use the menu bar it is in the wrong place and locked in place, more lack of control
I for one have never used the redundant build button on the menu bar just right click and build seems rather easy to me.
In all viewers while a minor a minor irritation why do the system folders default to on again I do not know many who have been in the game for more than a month who want system folders on top this might be a personal quirk but alpha seems to be a more logical organization.
I do not know how other games seem to always offer hot key set up and screen skinning and organization as a standard and Second Life(r)(tm) with all the programming ability finds it an impossibility.
Oh and did I mention the default colors
April 18th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
omg… yet another problem with this ‘RC’ viewer… the Property Lines indicator now stays on with FULL RED markings over the entire landscape. It seems as if someone dipped a paint-brush and splattered the entire screen where the property markings are, covering all land and textures with sickening-red splotches.
Yeah, this is ready for Prime-time alright.

the RC2 works well enough for me, and I’m using it as my main viewer, its got a couple new features that I can’t imagine not having now that I have them.
However, I do have 2 complaints.
“Updated login/teleport progress screen art and colors”
What are they talking about? I still have a big ugly black square in the middle of my screen when I’m logging in. (although, hopefully that will be a skinnable part of this when they get the skinning interface going)
“Fixed: VWR-6232: Tap-Tap-Hold Running should be an ‘Advanced’ character preference”
That really should find its way into the preferences, rather than the Advanced menu.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
If the release candidates are to help track bugs, why does the crash logger fail every single time?
April 18th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
been with this client for 3 hours in heavy traffic. no real issues or problems…..
April 18th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
@8
Sorry for the ambiguity — I updated the text: “The Linux viewer crashes on startup found in RC1 have been fixed and the Korean, Japanese and German viewer crashes found in RC1 have also been addressed.”
April 18th, 2008 at 9:13 PM
@74 at times it fails………..I think its based on LL views of how many they want to view. Because for over a month and still from time to time my reports fails to transmit the data back to LL.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:15 PM
Crashing on start up!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:16 PM
#53 We all have created issues in the Jira. Thats why we are bitching. We are told to create them and they are never looked at. Take a look most are months old, some are even 6 months old and never been assigned to any1. Its pointless to keep creating them. Many of the bugs are issues with things that we directly pay for and u would think they would get right on those. Some1 needs to explain. The Jira seems more like a rug, LL can sweep their crap under.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:18 PM
sadly that is true There are alot of issues taht are NOT being dealt with. Just like support they do waht they can ( and their egos) ask them to do
April 18th, 2008 at 9:23 PM
This really should be FirstLook, it’s certainly not ready for RC status yet, especially as historically the Labs have rushed out Second Life® Viewer updates at RC 3 or 4 latest.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:24 PM
Every new release I keep hoping that you have [RESOLVED] JIRA VWR-3258.
For months now this has been an issue, and the only resolution offered to those affected is turn VBO off. This despite every person that has the issue telling you that makes FPS drop to an unusable level.
The only way that those affected can play SL is to either run with the Preferences window open all the time, but minimised so on the fly adjustments can be made every minute or two.
Or to accept that 1-3 FPS in an empty sim is playable.
Or to use Nicholaz, or OnRez viewers. But we all know that eventually these viewers will no longer be able to log in, leaving those affected with this issue no longer able to play SL.
Now it is affecting both ATI and Nvidia cards, so is there any chance this may now be looked at, and a fix provided?
April 18th, 2008 at 9:28 PM
I have just downloaded the latest viewer for candidate and find that i cannot log in. I am on a mac. I have read most of the comments posted here and share much of the sentiment. I dont think anything should be released until it is working properly and tested. I am reaching the point where the idea of downloading a program that will add bugs that werent there before seems ludicrous….
April 18th, 2008 at 9:34 PM
How come the default install language is German?
April 18th, 2008 at 9:41 PM
THE ANTIALIASING FEATURE DOESN’T DO ANYTHING!!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
I haven’t been able to get in game for over a week. Im fairly new to SL, but was able to play for more than 6 weeks with little or no issues. Now I either crash on start-up or can’t even log in. I have a basic (FREE) acct, and can’t get help. I’ve put in a trouble ticket, no response. Do we have to pay for a premuim account to get help?
I put money in to this game…and I can’t play. What gives?
April 18th, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Amaterasu , you been around along time and know how badly LL does this things. Since most of the HAHAH(new lindens) are only new by avie alone and not in the real sence. Keep making the same mistakes day in day out year in and year out.
April 18th, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Stop giving me stuff I don’t want. Give me reliable tps, group functions, clothes that appear when i click wear and stay where i put them, decent frame rates, more than 25 groups. and.. the
Ability to log back in quckly after crashes– Sl logs me out 5 minutes after the crash and punishes me if i won’t wait..
My whacked out camera controls drive me crazy where they once worked fine. True I adore the water reflections but they aren’t worth the rest of the grief. Why did you roll out Havok and the new viewer at the same time. Scripts are borken in some of my most valuable stuff and half the players don’t know what is Havok related and what is viewer based–making it hard to know what you can fix and what you can’t.
And if you must give me something new.. make it an SL personal calendar to I can keep track of events. That should have been included in the very first viewer screen….it’s not that hard. I don’t dare open Any other app when on SL becuase of the way it sux my resources.. so I need that calendar IN world.
Thanks, i know you’re not listening but it was nice to tell you anyway.
Yeah I will not threaten to leave, but suffer forever: I have SL friends I need to see.

The new client side anti aliasing is full of bugs, most noticeably for program anti-aliasing its too strong on words & letters. Selection boxes refresh slowly on alt cam movement as well, so driver enabled anti-aliasing is still better.
April 18th, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Seems to work perfect for me. Oh wait I was logged into LOTR online. Nvm.
April 18th, 2008 at 10:50 PM
WTF another post about YOUR trademarks butstill NO answers to our questions about copyrights. You guys are so selfish
April 18th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
there is noway I upgrading the Motherboard and graphic card because LL can`t build a client that suppose 1 year old high end graphic cards……….seriously do you people ever look at atleast 1 1/2 year hardware people use when building a client? There use to be a linden that tested said issues .But no more…………..
April 18th, 2008 at 11:13 PM
“Fixed: Voice can become totally disabled aftrer using multiple viewer”
Nope, Its occurring on my PC. Same as @63
April 18th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
I would like to see a skin option in the new release that would let the user use either the SL Classic skin (from 1.19.1 (4) ) or the new dazzle look. I dont care for the dazzle look.
It would be a really simple change for the programmers and i think most folks would prefer the darker skin
Thanks
:))

What is the problem wit ATI cards? I am running a ATI x1650x pro after my nvidia 6600 stopped working after a few months. I went with a differant brand after I felt my nvidia card should have lasted longer. also since I installed the ATI card i stopped having the video driver stopped responding message that would make me have to reboot the whole computer. My ATI works great.
I am glad to see age verification is still being worked on. many people out here are tired of the kids out here. I do not think your TOS upgrade will protect you from legal trouble since minors that you allow to be out here cannot enter into a contract like the TOS agreement.
At least people who place their adult content above the 50m ban line would have some kind of defense that the minor lied and showed stolen ID to log in. I am sure some attorney will point out these places that build above the ban lines are doing so to work their way around the system in place.
I think all adults who participate in adult content are at risk to legal problems from these underage kids being out here.
Why is it so hard to require identity verification before logging in?
Most of these kids do not have money, most of them are nothing but griefers when they find out this is not a game and they are nothing but a legal liability to both your residents as well as Linden labs for allowing them to be out here to begin with.
i do not cyber but i do flirt and would hate for something i said on “THE ADULT GRID” to come back and haunt me because Linden labs allows children to be out here and has so many loop holes allowing children to access adult content that they are legally not allowed to access. Your TOS said you fall under the laws of the State of california. I seemed to recall reading that this state has very strict laws about children accessing adult content. in fact some of the strictest in the United states. yet you allow children to participate in activities that are very graphic sexually as well as violent in nature.
It is time to do something to get the children off the adult grid.

Ramzi’s statement on the Jira is extremely worrying. Basically, you are going to ignore the overwhelming negative feedback and go ahead with Dazzle without providing an option in the preferences to change the colors. How much more autistic can you get ?
Telling people to download and install 3rd party xml files is simply too much to ask from non-tech savvy users. Please delay 1.20 until the skinning feature is fully functional. There is no rush. We don’t care if it takes another 6 months as long as 1.20 is shipped as a stable viewer with all the necessary features included.
You are deliberately planning to ship a half implemented feature, ignoring the community once again. Once this is in the main viewer the uproar is going to be huge. And you cannot say we didn’t tell you.
You still have a chance to spin this off positively. Say that you have listened to the community, that Dazzle is great but it will be even better when you can change the skins from the UI. Organize a competition for the community to design the 3 or 4 official skins that will be shipped with the product. Turn this into a PR success for a change.
As it is, It feels like this issue is being driven by somebody’s ego more than by customer requirements.
This really feels like watching a good friend pick up a gun, clean it, aim steadily at his own foot and shoot, while we’re all here screaming at you.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Oh and for those who haven’t been following the debate, Ramzi Linden’s statement is here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5080?focusedCommentId=57321#action_57321

You should provide us with a way to disable the run when tapping up arrow… makes us running while boxing on sl… many of us are not upgrading because of that. Those who were forced to upgrade so far don’t want to continue boxing in those conditions.
I heard it was hard for other type of fights as well with this feature that nobody asked for really :)))
April 18th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
You guys have to STOP forcing the update - I’m in the middle of testing and recording stuff and all of a sudden BANG! It’s gone. I have to start over. If you want effective testing I need to complete testing and turn in bug reports without having to start over! And I can’t continue to do this when I have to make a presentation to somebody on the new viewer, get into the conference room and the STUPID MESSAGE comes up that I am forced to upgrade. And it was fine an hour ago. Didn’t you learn from the production release staggering?
April 19th, 2008 at 12:22 AM
I’m still not “hovering in place” … I slowly sink to the ground. Annoying when you’re trying to build.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:44 AM
I see one problem that wasn’t fixed…It’s still Dazzle.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:49 AM
1.20RC1 worked nicely for me, but RC2 crashes on me at startup, three times in four! This is CERTAINLY NOT a “release candidate”!! Can I have RC1 back, PLEASE?
CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1596 MHz)
Memory: 2046 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista (Build 6000)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce Go 7600/PCI/SSE2
April 19th, 2008 at 1:03 AM
Being able to log in above 768m? We’ve been having this issue for 3 RC clients now. Otherwise, I’m happy with the new art and adjustments
April 19th, 2008 at 1:43 AM
All rotating objects (llTargetOmega’ed objects) are not rotating!
Only (partial) work around is to copy them (use shift to delete the copy faster) or re-rez them. But of course, it’s impossible with non copiable object
will look at the jira…
April 19th, 2008 at 1:46 AM
Please allow me to revise the “three times in four” crash ratio…
I’ve gotten RC2 to load ONCE, the second time I tried to run it. I’ve tried about nine or ten times, and it’s only loaded the once.
I’m really glad I didn’t un-install my 1.19.1(4) viewer, else I’d be stuck!
April 19th, 2008 at 1:49 AM
I was not able to post in the trademark blog, so i’ll post my dissatisfaction here. I feel left in the cold with the problem with our items beeing sold by thieves. There was a long second post about linden labs own trademarks, discussing it with lawyers, working on taking action (taking resources). Compared to that the effort that was put in helping us, the content creators. it’s a shock to see how little effort you put into helping us compared to helping your own trademark issues. The last post didn’t answer our questions, while two years ago we were promised improvements would be made in this system, there still are no improvements at all. In two years no post was made about the subject, leaving us content creators alone with it.
I am very disappointed with the way our problems are beeing handled , and the ignorance that linden labs had of these problems. Posting one blog after two years is nothing compared to the way linden labs own trademarks are beeing handled. It’s a shame.
April 19th, 2008 at 2:00 AM
GRaphic options like hardware skinning avatar cloth still broken on ATI hardware of any kind with ATI 8.3 drivers.
and performance is bad with horrible pause and studdering that was not there before drivers 7.12
April 19th, 2008 at 2:01 AM
@106 I feel Linden Labs™ owes us an apology for that, but WE WILL NEVER GET ONE AND WE WILL CERTAINLY NEVER GET ANY ANSWERS OR HELP. LINDEN LABS™ DOESNT GIVES A F*CK ABOUT CONTENT THEFT.
As soon as a competitor pops us that DO helps us I’m outta here.
