That’s a lot of refresher! Thanks!

Yay and double yay!

Neat Effect - TRY THIS!
DISABLE CAMERA CONSTRAINTS first!
Camera to Overhead so you are looking down at the top of you avatar’s head.
CTRL-8 command 4 or 5 times (If the screen spazzes, press Ctrl-0 to the last “good” view.
Now - you’ll notice builds will appear to artificially stretch like looking through a lens. Mousewheel Zoom out some.
Camera down back to normal eye level.. the whole world is stretched like looking through a tiny lens! Move your AVI to explore this strange “new” world! Mousewheel Zoom closer to your Avi if you wish.. even your avatar is stretched from the waist down!
weird huh?!

Torley, you’re a poster child for hyperactivity. And I ain’t complainin’, either.
March 5th, 2008 at 3:04 AM
i honestly wish that instead of putting effort into explaining the cryptical interface to everyone a real effort would be made in overwroking the interface (i dont mean cosmetical skin stuff, but realy structural overwork).
people who visited SL once and never came back didnt because it looked bad, they did so because the itnerface frustrated them and they were lost.
March 5th, 2008 at 3:17 AM
ok let me say this in addition:
- The video tutorials are too short
- Can you cover more complex stuff?
=)

A much needed service to the community. I always refer new residents to your tutorials to help them remember anything I’ve taught them. i’ll be honest with you, though: while I appreciate the speed of your lesons, I kindasorta miss the warp speed chatter of the first ones. Your enthusiasm makes me laugh and appreciate SL that much the more.
March 5th, 2008 at 3:27 AM
No Matter what, Linden Labs is NOT paying Torley enough, Fantastic Job Once Again! Producing these video’s takes alot of time, and it greatly appreciated ! For those that want to complain, maybe we can have Torley do a short video on how to get ‘help’ while inworld and all the other options, such as the jira. Your either part of the problem or the solution. Rock On MR TORLEY!
March 5th, 2008 at 3:36 AM
Luv ya, Torley! Please do one on Jira for dummies. I went there yesterday to see if the fix I wanted was already logged and got lost in there. Thanks in advance wee watermelony dude!
March 5th, 2008 at 3:58 AM
Georgette, Torley’s already covered that, and very well too. Can’t blame you for not finding it tho, prolific as he is! Thanks Torley, you’re a star!!

Any chance there will be some tutorials on the client drop down menus?
March 5th, 2008 at 4:10 AM
LOL - Freaking awesome!
This is great since I cheat at RL work when I’m bored. Nice little bite-sized nuggets. And, as a video editor, I can see how these would be much easier for you to create, too.
March 5th, 2008 at 4:40 AM
WOW! What a treasure I just found! Brand new to Second Life and someone hands me a link and says “Check it out!” and there is Torley Linden, Renaissance man! Sure wish you were a Morman! Just Joking.
How about a guide to all those abbreviations everyone uses for those of us who have never played computer games but love this new world?
March 5th, 2008 at 4:59 AM
YAY Torley! As an SL Mentor I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!
So many new residents really do not want to read - they want to get out there and interact! These bite-sized nuggets if crucial info are just what I’ve been looking for. Saves me typing the directions and trying to explain it via text alone. These will really help a lot of people. Keep up the good work!
(And ooooh - only 10 more days til PI day - I know you must be excited!)
March 5th, 2008 at 5:02 AM
Its official - Torley for lifetime President of Second Life. Been here a year and still learning. And make the UI more complex - then we’ll get more tips lol

I’d like to see less Ruthing, fewer logouts on TP, less hair and shoe on butts, friends lists that load, and no more sinking into the ground and crashing when walking slowly across a sim border.
And maybe a little bit of action against the rampant content theft that’s plaguing developers too.
Any chance that the product will ever actually work right?
March 5th, 2008 at 5:50 AM
Whatever Torely is taking, please, lets get some big doses in the grid primate water system.
- MISC-975 Noticeable sim performance decrease from Second Life Server 1.19.1.80913 - No Kidding??
Seriously - Thanks Torely. Your tutorials are great, entertaining and even old hands like me find useful info or reminders in them.
Sadly, the sim where your mine vid was done, seems to be off limits to all but groupies.
DRD

I know most of this stuff already, but I watched them again anyway for entertainment!
Keep having fun everyone and try to explore somewhere new everyday!!
Hehehehehe.
March 5th, 2008 at 6:26 AM
I’m actually waiting for the video tutorial on how to watch Torley’s video tutorials.
LMAO, kidding

IM me in-world for a notecard to have all of those tutorials in “My Playlist” in your @home TV…
March 5th, 2008 at 7:27 AM
I realize this might be a stupid suggestion, but what if instead of being able to change the field of view so much that the screen becomes incomprehensible, you put a limit on the number of times you could zoom out/zoom in to avoid extremes.
March 5th, 2008 at 8:04 AM
Torley: great, great, great job… as always!

Torley: un gran, gran, gran trabajo… ¡como siempre!
March 5th, 2008 at 8:40 AM
how about a complete list of all keyboard shortcuts, and all sub menus i guess you would call them(like the client menu and the
ctrl/shift/1, sim,server/client performence display) i know there are many i dont know. and a glossary for all second life terminology for every word youll see in SL
March 5th, 2008 at 8:45 AM
Hey, Torley! let me introduce you to the Mouse-Scroll Wheel. Verrrrry useful for things such as… Zoom?? Give it a try sometimes. Just use a PC!

Wonderful! You da watermelon dude!
I’d also like to see another vid done on JIRA. I created a couple of new feature ideas & submitted, for example, but when I went back to look at them again it took me forever to find them. And I swear I am reading & trying to follow the logic of the interface
I don’t really know how to explain it but the interface itself is still confusing…searching is fine but filtering effectively is maddening, as is pulling up a simple list of what reports I have on my watch list. I’d bet an in-depth JIRA de-mystification, no matter how long, would become one of the most watched SL vids in existence…hehehe.
/me shakes her head, kicks JIRA again in frustration & vows to spend another few hours trying to understand it…
Thanks for all the hard work!!!

How about a “quicky” on how to set up an activate gestures an sounds.
thanks for all you do for us Torley.
March 5th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
@26: “Just use a PC!”
*sigh* I’ll assume that was a joke, since Macs have scrollwheel mice too.
March 5th, 2008 at 12:05 PM
“Sorry, this video is no longer available”.
Seems like it’s been removed from YouTube
March 5th, 2008 at 1:50 PM
I’m an “oldbie” and I’m kind of strange in that I love manuals and tutorials. Some might think reading manuals is a waste of time after a certain point, but there’s always something to learn that you may have not known, or overlooked over the years.
I remember hearing about a key-combination to repeat the last thing you said, and had been asking around if anybody remembered what that combination is/was. It would really come in handy when testing objects that listen on, say channel 3500, and other repetitive phrases.
The (Mac) Command-ArrowDown/Up tip in “Chat Bar Shortcuts” will help me immensely! Thanks Torley for answering something that has bugged me for a long time!
March 5th, 2008 at 2:14 PM
I saw the two Jira vids and they’re fab ty Torley, my bad for not spotting it earlier. So for next video can we have another one of you playing the piano? Cheers. ;D
March 6th, 2008 at 12:25 AM
Torley, these are very nice little tutorials. Now when someone asks, for example, what “rez” means. My answer is : http://youtube.com/watch?v=nhwmhaZgd80

Nice Torley! Could you do one on Inventory - recent items, filters and sorting do you think?
March 7th, 2008 at 7:47 AM
Hi Torley, those were a great set of tutorials, but the one on movement doesn’t seem to work - I try pressing my spacebar and it just stops me dead in my tracks, I don’t inch forward like you were doing :/ That looked really useful for positioning yourself in photo lineups too. I just uploaded the new release candidate viewer (1.19.1) so maybe it’s a bug in that..? I don’t know whether to file a JIRA report on it or not… can you advise please? Thanks
