Tips of the Week NOW available for streaming inworld…
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 at 4:44 PM by: TorleyAs promised earlier, I’m pleased as watermelon punch to announce that the Second Life Tip of the Week and previous video tutorials I created are all FREE for you to download & stream! Go here:
If you don’t know how to watch/stream movies inworld, see our Knowledge Base (you’ll need to login) and stay tuned because I engage popular demand, and this topic’s going to be a future TotW.
Also! I’m proud to share that the TotW is part of our new Showcase highlighting some of (but not all, heck, we’d never get to the ends of that!) the loveliest stuff from Second Life. I’m delighted to be amongst such fine company, and even happier to observe whenever our Residents create tutorials — be they video or otherwise.
“Series II” of the Second Life Tip of the Week begins next week!
-Torley Linden
is taking suggestions for more video tutorials.

Thanks Torley. Also, if anyone is interested in knowing the real Torley, check out his cool blog at torley.com It is jam-packed with useful info about SL and the web in general. I have no idea how he finds time to do everything! I get the impression that working for LL is more than a “job” for him. He truly enjoys sharing and helping.

Fix SL Trucks
Seems everybody has them except me

How do you always find another way to improve something that’s already awesome? I bet you’re how they cram all that graham into Golden Grams (I’m sure I spelled something wrong :p). Thanks for the new features! Keep up the great work! Happy New Year!
January 4th, 2008 at 3:35 AM
As well as watching Torley’s great tutorials take a look at some of his excellent music on YouTube (just search for “Torley”).
It’s just sickening for one guy to have sooooo much talent
Happy New Year Torley.

Hi Torley! What Video Editor do you use that allows you to zoom in on a menu to see it clearly, then zoom out again?
Thanks
January 4th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
will you at some stage allow for better flash streaming? As the streaming is still a bit behind the times in SL..
thanx

Who do you have to know to get into the Showcase?
And why don’t you have a sport section? (besides the obvious fact that SL physics are a little lacking…)
I’ve been running races here for years with many talented and dedicated people…I know you guys like to ignore me due to my often unforgiving nature concerning your endless cockups, but it might be nice to be listed on the showcase when you consider I run many non-profit dedicated full racing sims to support motor sport here and spend countless hours working around the pain that is havok1 to produce top level vehicles free to use in the free racing at my free tracks!
Give a dog a bone here.
Love Les,
Developer and Race Director

Yeah, I have to agree with Les, his tracks rock and supply some fun free entertainment. It seems like the same sims are in ALL the “showcase” type things distributed and a sports section would be nice. I’ve had fun going to some of the SLHL games etc and these groups never get any exposure. I don’t think people need links to “dance club” venues or shopping malls to find those kinds of thing..

yeah
- should I buy CDO(s) or go for gold straight?
- Also you think GM is a good buy at 23.65 or should we wait for further tanking below 20?
January 5th, 2008 at 8:33 AM
Not being bitchy, but what about a tutorial on how to Teleport without SL crashing and kicking you out? I’m now finding it increasingly impossible to get anywhere outside my home sim.
January 6th, 2008 at 7:00 AM
/me waits for the comment stream to kick off in here as its practically the only thread available to comment upon. Let the OT begin!
January 6th, 2008 at 7:05 AM
clean the gunk out of the mouse, then the asset servers’ll be ok
January 6th, 2008 at 7:31 AM
Sry I must of missed the extensive warnings that pre dated the grid shut down I was too busy trying to take back my assets lol
January 6th, 2008 at 7:39 AM
sorry to be off topic, but why are comments closed on the snowman competition,???
It would be nice to be able to congratulate the winners.
And since there are such good builders on the teen grid, is there not a way, apart from SLex that we can trade between grids?
January 6th, 2008 at 7:44 AM
Damn, the house (and mouse Masuyo) is clean, its raining outside and I finished watching the Rome II DVD set. My only ambition is to test my latest script
Oh well, Pity the main page says online, but I never expect weekends to be smooth in SL especially on update weeks.
I wonder if it will be up in time for Wednesdays shut down, could be 2 bad weekends in a row. But at least they start the year in the manner they intend to continue

Intermittent asset server issues
hehehehehehe, I was 4 weeks off world, just wanted to look back, what happened? asset server issues, hehehehhehe. I studied the blog entries (the ones where comments are kindly allowed) and I understood: NO CHANGE AT ALL in 4 weeks, obviously the problems got even worse, hehehehehe.
cmon LL make SL a smooth experience!
January 6th, 2008 at 8:23 AM
Ha! Freds snowman looks how i feel when i get ready to log on and i see OFFLINE in big red letters at the top of the page!
Oh well its sunday, i could always go to church. Jesus could return before LL sort their problems out so i’d better hedge my bets.

Asset server issues, asset server issues, asset server issues, asset server issues - how many times have we heard that in just the last week or 10 days? Unfortunately, there’s no end in sight, we’ll be hearing about asset server issues next year at this time - because Linden Lab refuses to consider moving their gigantic asset database off what virtually all IT professionals considers a “toy” database system - MySQL - and onto a robust, enterprise class database that would actually WORK.
January 6th, 2008 at 4:09 PM
the asset server problems are NOT restored. Please send message to the people NOT to rez objects… i get lots and lots of complains from customers who lost their objects. Please warn them they don’t deserve to lose their objects because they are not informed!

Tip of the week: Don’t trust the asset server, don’t buy things, don’t rez stuff, don’t pick stuff up! What a joke.
