First Full Day of WinterFest ‘07
Saturday, December 15th, 2007 at 11:07 AM by: Teeple LindenHello, and Happy Holidays to all!
Today is our first full day of WinterFest ‘07! As one of Second Life’s least talented builders, I wanted to express my admiration for some of the wonderful events and venues I see springing up everywhere for the season.
If you’re in the mood to partake of the season’s festivities, please visit Chalet Linden in Wengen. You’ll find a new kiosk in the parking lot, loaded with an event HUD and another goody or two. We’re still decorating Wengen a bit this weekend, but the first kiosk is ready to go.
While you’re there, you might also want to check out Voss next door. Something’s brewing for tonight, and we’ll announce that a bit later today.
We’re still loading a growing list of venues and events into the WinterFest HUD server. I ran behind schedule putting the HUDs out, though, and that’s not exactly fair to the people who worked hard to get events lined up for today. So, here’s the list of events we’ve registered for today so far:
- Joysco Winter Festival
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm Pacific
Live music
live voice interview, skating party
community awareness program, fashion show
- Poetry in Pixels - Yuletide Ball
3:00 pm - 6:00 pm Pacific
Live jazz from Aisha Yao
DJ Miriam Antonelli
Formal dress required
- Illusion Theater Winter Village Party
4:00 pm - 10:00 pm Pacific
DJ Cindi and the enSync Dancers
Different music theme each hour
8 p.m. formal under Northern Lights
(free formal wear available)
- La Place Mall Christmas Party
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Pacific
KandieKain Laval, rockin’ round the Christmas tree
Visit the carnival
Sit on Santa’s lap!
Dancing, fun, food & more.
Please pick up a HUD at your convenience to get in world access to these and other events and venues, as the WinterFest social calendar continues to grow!

I see a mall on the list: I thought commercial areas were barred?

@ 1
And where exactly do you think Santa gets his presents from?

#1: A ‘mall’ is a wide and long area. You are thinking of a what is properly called a “shopping mall”, which is an area where people shop. But malls can have all kinds of purposes.

Let’s hope there are some european friendly timed events on the calendar
I’m not in a position to host anything sadly (not a landowner) but hopefully someone will remember the 70% of the playerbase outside of the US.
December 15th, 2007 at 3:49 PM
Sadly all the events (also see “snowman building” next page) seem to be held during times only US residents are able to participate.

Possibly because of short notice? I don’t remember seeing anything except for these couple of announcements previously.

Yet again the Lindens are having an American friendly snowman comp-it simply is not fair to hold big money competitions at times which exclude so many people.
So much for an all inclusive world!

To fennel, Mona, and Broccoli:
If you’re not from the US, I can see why you would like to see events scheduled that are friendly to your time zone. I don’t blame you.
However, is it the responsibility of the people in the US to schedule events that we’re actually going to host, that are not friendly to us in our own time zones? I think not.
Where are the Europeans sponsoring venues? Do they not care? If so, then that’s not the fault of us Americans. Please don’t turn this into yet another “us vs. them” debate. Nobody in the US has set out to exclude anybody, especially not those at Linden Lab.

I WANT ALL THE RESIDENTS TO GATHER AND MAKE A SL XMAS SONG!
THIS WINTERFEST WOULD BE PERFECT!
JOIN THE ‘SL XMAS SONG’ GROUP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED
OR IM ME!

@17 Well honestly. Half the planet is in summer, so we are perhaps enjoying those seasonal festivities? It is Linden’s fault to be continually blinkered about what is not only a global entity, but one in which the US is in the minority.
December 16th, 2007 at 10:44 AM
And yes, 9pm-11pm SL is 5am-7am UK, 6am to 8am Europe, so we’re not exactly being invited to the L$5k party are we?
December 16th, 2007 at 12:26 PM
You realize Winter doesn’t start till the 22nd. This all seem a bit premature.

You missed Second Life Ballet’s global premiere of “The Nut” — our 3-act story ballet of the beloved holiday classic “The Nutcracker”. The premiere was the first day of WinterFest, but performances continue Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 5pm SLT (our Euro Cast returns in January). Join us! Happy Holidays!

Hugsalot - a lot of people make that mistake - winter does not begin at MIDwinter (21/22 Dec). Winter in actuality begins 6 weeks before.
