… I hate that new search system.. the reason? Because to pay for ads change nothing. I mean before in search engine my shop was in top 10 of searchlists for most of my keywords. And now noone can find it except if they know the name of the shop. What I see in that new search system is people who are the richest will become more rich and all the others will have to make more ads everywhere even if they don’t have the money for that… I find that stupid. The old search engine was more logic.. The old search was giving same chance to everyone…
If I write that today it’s cause I talked of that with lot of people in SL, owners of shops or not, and they all think the same.

I hated this new search.
Is good only for the big companies with the top 8 PAID ADs.
New people on the SL is the biggest commerce there and they will go only for this 8 top big ads.
The SL will loose a lot of users becouse a lot of business will broken. Very bad this Ideia of the pictures of the 8 top paid ads.

Well I love Torley's videos and Torley's character - but the new search engine seems to have failed me completely.

As another poster said, on the old system, certain product searches listed just a few shops, and mine was in the list. Brilliant. The same search on the new engine lists about four pages, and my shop is nowhere to be seen. I've also noticed that other merchants on my patch are showing up in the left hand pane when the name of the plaza is typed in, and my shop doesn't show up at all. I don't understand the logic of this, as the name of the plaza is in my classified ad and the name of my shop is listed under 'about land'. Simply can't see what other merchants have done that I haven't.

For three weeks prior to the arrival of the new engine, sales were rocketing far beyond anything I'd seen over the last year - but since the new engine was implemented, they've dropped massively. Coincidence? Seems unlikely.

I would really appreciate a detailed (idiot-proof) explanation of how to best list items in order to be discovered by the new engine. I am at a loss (in more ways than one...)

Sorry, but the new Search has been damaging business in SL severly.
Why? With the old search things were searched quick and easy.
The new search is window dressing. Very nice looking, but very
unpractical and updating takes a whole day.
I can't imagines that we asked for it.
Google as a benchmark is wrongly chosen. Google serves likely
a majority of the world population and billions of web pages.
This is only Second Life with far less pages and people.
Keep it stupid simple ( and effective ) please.
The old search worked fine.
The new search may kill business.

Thanks for your always excellent tutorials, Torley.

Meanwhile, DrenBoy Opus and Felix Wakmann, two ultra knowledgable Search experts, provided some excellent tools for customizing your search here: http://npirl.blogspot.com/2007/11/you-dont-need-to-be-nerd-to-rev-up.html.
