Linden Labs is setting yet another bad precedent with this decision. Virtual Worlds should not be treated differently from any other Internet Service Provider. Linden Labs continues to weaken the position of other virtual worlds with these decisions, as they set the precedent for future virtual worlds.

@ all - when I buy a car it's mine. When I buy something on SL it's mine. If somebody takes my car it's "stealing". If LL takes takes my property it's "stealing". TOS my butt or not. When I transfer RL money here and it is declared worthless......lawyers.

"or in any way risks Linden dollars based on whether an event may or may not occur"

So shoppijng is gambling! Each time I buy something in SL it is a gamble if what i purchased will actually be delivered to my inventory or be eaten by the system.

POKER

Recently, a competition was held in real-life between top poker players and the best AI poker algorithms. The human players completely obliterated the computers. I think that goes to prove that the outcome of poker is far from random, otherwise the computers must have atleast leveled with the human players. So, is poker forbidden? It is no more random than a game of tennis where it is chance that determines who gets to start.

(p.s. I never played poker in SL or had any casino)

I think what has people upset is not the question of legality, but once again having a certain set of "Morals" shoved down their throats. Yes it may technically be illegal, however, if virtual gambling is going to be cracked down on, then how about some focus on business practices that are in violation of federal law? How about land covenants that blatantly disregard current legal precedent? Lets face it, if the Lindens want to try and support legal standards in the virtual world then there's far more important ones that need focused on. Instead many of their recent "policies" have been focused more on MORAL restriction than legal. Quite frankly I don't think the Lindens can afford to continue in this way. Linden Labs, upon review, is at best a shody skeleton of a business. Their software (the secondlife client) is more and more broken with each release. Many of the initial problems are still present in the latest release. Each release fixes maybe one or two problems and causes at least five more.

They're walking a fine line. Keeping things running just enough to stay in business and try to milk people out of their money. The more of their personal morals they push on residents the more select a group of consumers they're going to be targeting. This will reduce their revenues and in the long run spell the end of Linden Labs.

To the particular issue of gambling on SL. It is not their job to police such things. In the same way that companies can legaly run online gambling, SL residents that live in areas where it is legal should be allowed to operate their own casino's. They said it themselves, it is up to the individual to ensure they are not doing anything illegal in theire area. This clearly shows they're enforcing their personal moral choices on their customers. I'm not arguing their right to do this. Businesses are allowed to make such decisions, however, I do argue their business ethic/ability and their continued existence.

While I have not been involved in the recent (and ongoing despite several lies they released saying it had stopped) grid attacks, nor will I be. I do condone it. I don't agree with the reasons for the attacks, but I do believe the lindens need slapped and slapped very hard.

No, Just, you may still diddle little boys or sheep, or you may still offer your rear to the nearest rampant stallion if you wish… you just can’t do it here, so you go right ahead and feel up all the preschoolers you want, rape a few priests or sleep with a chicken stuck on your “wee-wee”… just keep it in your own amoral backyard. I am so sick of hearing about how much you Eurotrash hate the US… then get the HELL off of our virtual soil!
