:O
Already?
June 1st, 2007 at 4:10 PM
Cool Stuff!! Impressive Speed working on things.. Good Luck with that Update!!
June 1st, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Hi,
i hope it has improvements to reduce current bugs
and not new features which nobody needs currently
before old features are working.
Windlight f.e. is nice, but texture order bug is more important
Voice is nice, but many lag problems are more important

Is voice coming? This is an awfully quick release, are you sure this is the right path to be taking in light of the numerous issues the last update caused?
June 1st, 2007 at 4:17 PM
How many more new viewer updates are we going to need. Seems like every other week we need a new download?
June 1st, 2007 at 4:18 PM
Are the memory leak issues fixed and the rendering problem>????
June 1st, 2007 at 4:19 PM
Ugh. Way to soon. Windlight is still riddled with display bugs including many users suffering incorrectable color and gamma issues. Its far from ready for the main viewer.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:21 PM
I do hope the bug is fixed that brings the browser to a crawl after a short time. It’s one of the major bugs in SL, the page file is over 1 gig in size and the machine slows so much that you have to quit the browser, wait ages (on a fast machine) and then log back in again.
Please no more sculptie type features until stuff like this is sorted.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:22 PM
Hold on…you still have one more blog post to go in order to knock the “Keeping Second Life Safe, Together” blog post from showing up on the login screen. Come on, I’m sure someone can think of something to post.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:22 PM
cool it has been a buggy couple of weeks hope it fixes it this time. Is this the release with the age verification? Curious because of the previous topic about behavior that is against TOS.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:22 PM
please fix the texture upload bug.. we dont need anything new till you fix the old. tired of wasting money on progran up
June 1st, 2007 at 4:34 PM
Comments like those above are like King Canute trying to hold back the sea. Linden decided long ago to get on with what they wanted (including making their own judgments about what old bugs to fix and which ones to leave) and the hell with our inputs. That’s (second) life…
June 1st, 2007 at 4:39 PM
Whatever they manage to do, and how impressive it seems, it ain’t nothing compared to what they COULD do if they would give up trying to make SL 1.0 act like SL 2.0. Read and vote/comment on the following at the official suggestion/bug-fix site:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-255
June 1st, 2007 at 4:41 PM
hopefully no windlight, as long as it doesn´t run on many machines…
however, what aout GMT-time ??
cheers
Ralf
June 1st, 2007 at 4:43 PM
Hey, like I’ve said two times before, work on the bugs before you do any new features now. I’ve got mine fixed but only because my family were so kind as to upgrade my computer. Some don’t have that luxury… so, please take this on board and try to work with fixing the (many) bugs as listed at your support/jira/comments on blogs before you focus on the new features.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Please, please, please delay voice as long as humanly possible. We don’t need it anyway, and any energy diverted to that silly project is energy that could have been better spent on important stuff like fighting lag, login problems, and region crashes. First things first.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:52 PM
Please tell me that Windlight is NOT in this release?
I have no wish to lose the ability to fly in the clouds as opposed to under an animated wallpaper of sky and clouds
June 1st, 2007 at 5:01 PM
Please Refrain from Bitching and complaining… Since every other MMORPG totally lags and sucks, for once, just thank god some company takes 3d worlds serious.. I have been “there”, it sucks, been to kaneva, it sucks, been to the “metaverse” and it lagged so bad I thought the internet died… Count your lucky stars SL exists and works most of the time.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:02 PM
Lets hope it is an all over improvement, and not an improvement (read: more) of bugs.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:04 PM
[...] 1.17.0 is on its way from around 11pm Wednesday night AEST. As mentioned on the Linden Blog, release notes will be released soon. It seems doubtful that Windlight functionality will shift over to the main viewer, but hey we’ve been wrong before. [...]
June 1st, 2007 at 5:05 PM
How about fixing the screenshots? I DO NOT take 512×512 square pictures, yet every final result is 512z512.
It’s might be a little thing to some, but….it can’t be too hard to fix.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:21 PM
It’d be nice if you said what’s going to be in 1.17! Is it going to be from First Look? Or Beta Grid? Voice? Or Windlight? Huh huh?
June 1st, 2007 at 5:27 PM
4 new blogs today, effectively shoving yesterday’s shocking announcement off the login panel — so that a huge portion of SL’s residents don’t even know what’s happening: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/31/keeping-second-life-safe-together/
June 1st, 2007 at 5:31 PM
Notice that the same blogger that brought us the “highly popular” “identity verification” (Yes, I know it’s ‘age’ verification, but let’s be real, shall we?) is also the same blogger that brought us the “moral majority” commentary about what is ’safe’ in SL.
Maybe they really need to remove that particular voice from the LL choir since he surely doesn’t speak for the majority of players - paying or otherwise. Nor, does it seem, he speak for the majority of LL folk as there was not ONE respons from LL in that whole 100 entry list before they cut it off.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:42 PM
I love all the hard work and few features but sure hope I stop crashing as much as I have lately. I know I was told my video card is not supported because it’s a GE Force 2 MX but things were so much better for me a month or so ago. .16 has been better, .15 was awful. My crashing always happens when I click a menu button item ; you know the ones that pop up in the right corner when you have options to choose from. Thank u
June 1st, 2007 at 5:43 PM
Sorry I meant NEW features !!!
June 1st, 2007 at 5:44 PM
Bring on the voice!
June 1st, 2007 at 5:51 PM
Please make sure the crash-on-launch is fixed first, or make it optional until it is. Thank you.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:56 PM
Another downgrade already?
June 1st, 2007 at 5:57 PM
I wish people would stop with the “Bring on the voice!” comments… As much as LL says it won’t (greatly) affect the grid, it will certainly open the viewer to a legion of bugs– bugs that we don’t need at this time.
I’d like to see existing issues worked out before any new “shinies” are added to the mix.
June 1st, 2007 at 6:14 PM
I guess the warning of downtime is needed or people would be bitching about no notice. However 1.17 should be complete and being refined and release notes should be already known and in this post so people know what to expect and look forward (or backward) to.
Surely LL isn’t adding new stuff to 1.17 right now and not having time to test it before Tuesday?
You know most software developers don’t release new versions for MONTHS for a reason.
June 1st, 2007 at 6:22 PM
Windlight WILL NOT be in this version. Look at Torley’s last post… they are prepping the next FirstLook version for next week. It’s nowhere near ready to go yet.
Besides voice, which is largely inconsequential to grid health, there aren’t any major ongoing new features that are near go-time as far as I’m aware. I wonder if that will be included.
Hopefully a release worthy of a full subversion upgrade means better networking and communication subsystems are in place to help with stability.
June 1st, 2007 at 6:24 PM
I’m assuming that the menu entry for Stop All Animations will continue to be a placebo rather than a menu function that actually does something. Hands up who has ever managed to stop an out of control animation using this… anyone?
June 1st, 2007 at 6:33 PM
Balls to the walls!!!! UPGRADE US AGAIN! WE LOVE PAIN!
June 1st, 2007 at 6:35 PM
Won’t see my hand raised Darth, and Client > Character > Dump all Animations still immediately crashes me.
I went to the JIRA to see all the “fixed” bugs. Two immediately came to my attention that still occur.
1)You can not reliably stop particles as of yesterday using the ([]) method, but that bug shows fixed.
2) Renamed snapshot defaulting to snapshot is still present as well. Does FIXED mean the fix will be in .17???
June 1st, 2007 at 6:35 PM
“Release notes will be available on Tuesday, pending final verification of all issues.”
Final verification of all issues should come before release date determination, should it not?
June 1st, 2007 at 6:45 PM
ooh, new surprise goodies to expect on 6/6!
June 1st, 2007 at 7:03 PM
Lets face it, your quality control sucks.
Your customer service sucks.
Your testing sucks.
When will a Linden EVER listen to a customer??????????
June 1st, 2007 at 7:05 PM
Just to reduce the comments related to voice:
“Please note that Second Life 1.17.0 will not include Voice Chat capabilities when released; voice testing will continue on the Beta Grid. We’ll be posting non-voice Beta Grid viewers for 1.17.0 on Monday as well, including Linux viewers.”
June 1st, 2007 at 7:36 PM
Will 1.17.0 fix the group IM problem? It’s been hanging around a LONG time now…
June 1st, 2007 at 8:11 PM
[...] an earlier blog post, we’re planning on releasing Second Life 1.17.0 next week, assuming final QA goes [...]
June 1st, 2007 at 8:12 PM

The person in Post 13…I think they alerady said they will post all the info on Tuseday
June 1st, 2007 at 10:03 PM
Oooops dont pay any to my last comment
June 1st, 2007 at 10:33 PM
My, my such sarcasm.
June 1st, 2007 at 11:12 PM
Yet more “feature creep” while the basic functionality degrades.
Linden Labs is banning all “innapropriate ” content by some sort of “popluar demand”, but the demad that the whole thihg actually work is ignored!
Personally I have five computer systems at this location and ONLY ONE can run Second Life without crashing.
FIX THE SYSTEM GUYS!
June 1st, 2007 at 11:46 PM
@14 totally my impression too.
Will that new version include a new TOS enumerating all sexual fetish and which ones are “Broadly Offensive”
If not then should I ask a Linden employee in world every time I plan to do cybersex, and ask him/her if what I and my partner plan to do to is OKAY AND NOT BROADLY OFFENSIVE?
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:36 AM
Why must the down times always be on Wednesdays? Not everyone has the same schedule, and some of us find that Wednesdays are the days we have the most time to be in SL. But it’s always down. How about giving us Wednesday people a break?
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:55 AM
IF IT IS NOT BROKEN, THEN IT IS NOT SECOND LIFE. ;p
June 2nd, 2007 at 2:08 AM
congratulations .. one more update with all the old bugs and problems in it …
I am rather tired repeating it again and again: PLEASE GIVE US A STABLE RUNNING SYSTEM .. and I am not alone with this requirement.
Release 1.17 on Wednsday means for me: more Problems with Sl secondhalf of next week - mor problems means: SL cant be used anymore.
Luckily I am no premium member .. so I don thave to cancel anything when I dont use Sl any more.
June 2nd, 2007 at 2:55 AM
Have you noticed, when LL has something good to say, and people are positive and happy, the Lindens are in here answering questions, yet when the reaction is bad, you dont see them for dust.
I wonder why that is…
Read the comments Lindens - and listen to your residents whilst you still have some.
LL is “currently” unique….. but it won’t take much for people to jump ship when another company comes on-line with their offering.
The ONLY reason I currently stay, is because I have some investment here and theres no decent rivels… yet…
In business and life tho, there are times when you just have to cut your losses… and I’m getting might close to this.
No new features…. just make what you have work. Fix the foundations before building more floors.
Prim drift… its still there for example… and it’s a pain the ass.
Linking… will it work when I click.. wont it work…
Friends List… still broken 25% of the time…
These are basic basic issues.
On a change of subject, I see that due to your total over reaction, mis-management and total lack of understanding of the law in regards to the whole “Broadly Offensve” issue, companies are starting to leave SL. I received notification this morning that one of the larger Escorting companies was pulling out.
Personally, I think anybody who wares red should be reported to the authorities as thats offensive to me… but what do I know.
I also think that its bad you allow people to carry guns and shoot people… especially in places where it’s allowed… killing people, including avatars is morraly wrong… and you condone it… what the heck !
Ohhh thats right… this is fantisy. It’s ok to blow somebodys head off here but two consenting adults cant act out a rape fantisy where nobody gets killed. And dont start me on the religious implications of Avatars and Furries playing together.
I also notice that all of a sudden, theres a lot of land available for sale; some of the groups are awash with people trying to dump their land. Any reason for that… or is it because if people wanted to play in a police state, they would stay in RL.
Buck up your ideas, stop playing at running a business.
Get in a project manager who understands that “scope creap” and “cool things” are not a good idea unless properly planned and researched, get in and a test team leader who understand that “regression testing” is not an evil thing, and FIX IT whilst you still have something to fix.
June 2nd, 2007 at 3:09 AM
As another software player said
How do you wanna crash today?
1000000 new bugs, one old bug fixed, more or less…
SL get unplayable more and more. The new windlight viewer looks fine…. it would be really nice to have a stable grid and a stable viewer to use.
Instead of making the platform really stable Linden turns to more and more to a hypermoralistic “Mrs. Grundy” mentality while adding new, even more buggy features.
It is simply stupid to believe that this will continue. SL was a free minded community up to now. Many bugs were tolerated by the community because of beeing free minded.
You sat up a ideology within the last postings who makes everyone to a secret police man… it’s so easy to get the parcel i wanna have. Just denigrate the owner, he will be banned and loose all items, money and land. He has no chance to defend himself against this reproaches, because Linden will never listen to him…
Tons of unfixed bugs together with this mixture of pseudo moral, nazi regime and McCarthy era will make sl a safe place, indeed…
June 2nd, 2007 at 3:54 AM
@ 36
You are completely right. When they continue with this crusade and let the unholy coalition of Moral Majority, Big Biz and the Tekkies have their way SL will be dust soon. Welcome to another boring online “1984″, where fees are high, sex is banned, only the bugs are free and the denunciant is honored.
They should take care about the paying customers and those who made SL the place it is. If they don´t, well, there will be other people who can do a much better job than LL recently does. And someone will do so.
Sooner or later the grid will be dead like any other virtual reality world which claims reality. The people immigrated to another land of the free.
June 2nd, 2007 at 4:52 AM
Companies like Linden put their best programmers on development and their lower tier workers on bug fixes. That’s why the new stuff is continuing and will continue. They want a long features list and there’s no “subtraction” of bugs from the features for a “net” product. But you can’t fool users too long.
Why can’t someone get a distributed server solution that breaks through this blasted prim limit?
June 2nd, 2007 at 4:56 AM
On the good side it looks like Linden finally has someone going after the memory leaks which cause SL to creap.
June 2nd, 2007 at 6:13 AM
after playing with windlight pretty seriously for the last day or so, i can say that it’s a pretty toy and will be really useful to about 1% of people. The default settings are pretty average for the majority of the sims I’ve been in and it’s not easy to understand the relationship behaviour between the application and the sim you’re in..
it is pretty, and I’d rather make it an option rather than a replacement to the sl day.. which shows you how underwhelmed i am by the current release.. love everything about it, except it’s features. This really is probably the most unnecessary bit of IT over-engineering I’ve ever seen..
and really, if there is anyone in ll who is tasked with this implementation, take them off it now! this comes so low down the priority list that you are wasting precious resources.
Like everyone else, I would rather see you pay attention to your core business rather than being distracted by pretty geegaws. Just because you’ve managed to get a geek who used to work in movies and used this thing *and* managed to convince you that it was a good idea doesn’t actually make it one. Bit dazzled by fame were we?
This is a lot like scultpies - it’s a great specialist tool, which in the hands of the right people will improve the one dimensional visuals, but it just a distraction from the real problems.
What is the use of making SL pretty when people only come in a couple of times and then leave because, amongst other things, the infrastructure doesn’t work??? your current retention rate is pretty rubbishy - perhaps you need to revisit the reasons why..
oh, and by the look of it your support app is having problems. seems to be truncating the descriptions around 20ish characters. I found this out as my premium account got locked out because she crashed and the sim was slow to update the online status (like about 1 1/2 hrs) so i logged an email help request with full details.. Got a response back TWO WEEKS later asking what the problem was. Since i documented it pretty fully in the original request I would have thought that was obvious.
you guys are looking seriously incompetent. OK, these days I don’t give you as much money as i once did as I’ve closed the other account down, but to lock a *land owning, subscription paying* customer out of what they are paying for what would have been over 2 weeks is completely unacceptable.
I can’t work out which is top of my list, this or billing me for land I didn’t own, had never owned and at that stage had no intention of buying.. and then telling me it was my own fault!!!
roll on the competition - one day it will come and only LL will be surprised when your user base deserts you in droves.
Sorry about this guys, but I have given up trying one on one contact with LL - they just don’t want to know.. my hope is that the press will finally start with the negative articles as that’s the only thing that will get these guys to do the job they’re being paid *by us* to do. I can’t wait for the headlines about people being scammed by LL. Cowboy builders have nothing on LL.
ok.. rant over..
June 2nd, 2007 at 6:26 AM
So yet again we have another outage which hits europe and the far east at their busiest tiems while pandering to the US market and avoiding disruption at their busy periods.
I know that the product here needs to evolve and develop but there is hardly a week where there isnt some service disruption - and its always timed for the same slot. At leats vary the days and maybe even do it late evening PST now and again so the same section of thecommunity doesnt get hit every time! And please if u say it will be done by a certain time please ensure that it is.
Finally I wonder what the priorities are here. We experience lag, drop outs, loss of inventory and a host of other operational annoyances that seem not to be addressed by any of the upgrades. Yet this creaky system is having ever more features added which,m in my view - can only exascerbate the creakiness and will result, long term, in an unsightly and unnecessary collapse.
Lets get the foundstions right before we add more frills and non-essential paraphanalia to this excellent idea!
June 2nd, 2007 at 7:18 AM
I really wish LL could spend sometime on the fact that a brand new PC computer (all of which now come with VISTA) is not compatible with SL as VISTA is not yet supported.
Do we all need to buy old second hand computers?
June 2nd, 2007 at 7:36 AM
it will be like any update wednesday nothing will work !
June 2nd, 2007 at 8:43 AM
Why the updates and mainencance occur only at wednesday? Its my only free evening in the week and I wished, you would at least one time use the tuesday or the thursday for it.
June 2nd, 2007 at 8:48 AM
Kewl!
Now All I Need Is Some New Patience
Coz My Old Patience Ran Out Over A Year Ago…
O.o
June 2nd, 2007 at 8:55 AM
How sad. Release notes for 1.17 are posted, then people come along and say “one more update with all the old bugs and problems in it …”
Did they not notice that this update answers several inventory problems and quite a few memory leak issues?
I’m thrilled that these things are being fixed because 1.16 has not been a great experience for me. I’m also thrilled with the potential of Voice and Windlight.
SL might die due to overfeaturing, but it is guaranteed to die if it stagnates. Only we can help it find the path to the future.
June 2nd, 2007 at 9:11 AM
LOL, I’m over SL. I used to spend almost all my free time here a few months ago, but things are getting so much worse, and on top of that I guess Im just bored. my MAIN issue though, and one that was NEVER solved was the items that I bought that just plain disappeared from my inventory.
That made me stop buying things, and ultimately lead to my disinterest in SL. I mean if you can’t be sure that what you buy will be in your inventory tomorrow, and LL just says buying and keeping inventory is “At your own risk”, then how can I or WE buy anything? After that I was done.
I may still pop in once in a while to say hello to friends, but I will never spend any more money here. I mean there are records of every financial transaction that takes place here; I.E., I buy something for 5000 L, there is a record, so when that 5000L items vanishes somehow, and never reappears, how can LL say that they can’t verify that I had it or purchased it?
This issue for me is the clincher, I can get over bugs, or crashes, but when money spent can just disappear, by the items not being there and no accountability from LL, then I’m done.
And the ratings too, how can they sell us ratings, and then take them with no refund? And why did no one say anything? I saw no posts about it before except the ones I posted. I mean I hardly bought any ratings, but that’s not the point! I’ve seen people who had given over 3,000 ratings, and I feel like they would feel!
Let’s face it, SL is and can be fun, but these issues, as well as the ones that aren’t personally applicable to me make it UNFUN. If this continues LL will find that it doesn’t pay to ignore their income source, US the paying SL resident… Well not me anymore, but you know what I mean..
I wish you all the best in your dealings with SL and LL, GOOD LUCK!!
June 2nd, 2007 at 9:29 AM
Does there have to be so many updates? Seems to happen almost once a week now…
June 2nd, 2007 at 9:40 AM
@27
HERE HERE
Customer service in SL TOTALLY SUCKS!!! You can wait 3, 4, or 5 days (if not more to some) for a response to the new ticket system…
This is an improvement to customer service don’t you KNOW? Its in OUR benifit now.. HA! What a joke!!!
I’m surprised @ SL for NOT listening to the many unhappy people it would seem… As of late I see much more UPSET posts then I do HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!
Maybe SL will get it one day when people start leaving and not returning as it would seem some have already start to do…
But I’m hangin in here with HIGH hopes because I do actually like the whole SL idea…
June 2nd, 2007 at 11:23 AM
Someone to tell the Lindens to fix the huge amount of Bugs. Lag, Client crashes, Inventory problems, and you think about voice !!!
If now a company whould come to make a similar system , I am shure a lot of people whould change there.
June 2nd, 2007 at 11:50 AM
Oh great, another update full of bugs and crashes, Dont you think it would be better to focus on fixing the BUGS we got b4 releaseing another update. Honestly these posts will do no good cause the lindens arnt making a fast buck on it. I still say they need to update there game engine, Do what America’s Army did and move to the Cry Engine, if it can handle America’s army, then no doubt it can handle this game.
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Another update, have we gone to weekly destruction of the game again. What happened to the longer periods of test ,haha like you ever do.
Well it is Saturday and I can not log in. This is not a common for me and I do not like it but it brings up another point. I have no reason to pay for multiple islands if I can not log in. When are YOU going to provide a selective cache system that allows premium accounts to have first access to the grid if you don’t know how to do it go look at WoW who have many premium accounts. Each week the quality continues to decrease, caught in the accretion disk and at an increasing rate spiraling towards certain death.
Just fix the game, stop with the poorly thought out blog entry’s and pull your heads out long enough to realize that you have a customer base that while loving the game has a severe dislike for the way we are treated. And yes Phil as it says in your profile it is your fault.
Well I guess I will go plant flowers all you have to do with them is water and feed them for a positive response.
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:23 PM
I would like to ask the Linden-family to consider another time of the day to bring the grid down i.s.o. 6AM-12PM all the time. It’s evening for us in Europe then; I do understand that you can’t satisfy all users but it would be nice to change those down-times once in a while.
I don’t care about voice, but an improvement of lag-reducing would be very welcome!!
June 2nd, 2007 at 2:38 PM
Thanks to response 30 we might know whatJeska Linden, who started this thread, doesn’t know about what this update is about. If what respondent 30 is correct, this is a great bug fix release, remarkably free of new features, YEA!!!
I am much more concerned about the new “Moral Majority” stance of LL, since it totally ignores that this is a FANTASY site. In their pea-brained minds it is OK to fantasy murder an avatar that is trying to not be murdered than it is to fantasy rape an avatar that has consented to pole play that activity. Violence resulting in fantasy death; OK…violence resulting in fantasy rape is not.
Then there’s the whole “broadly offensive” statement. Some religions find that the mixing of unrelated males and females to be offensive…and let’s not go into how a some think I should be dressed. If LL keeps to their silly a**ed thinking, SL will become two islands; one male and the other females all dressed like bee-keepers.
LL conveniently avoided the one most generally condemned illegal activity in the Real World: Slavery. Yet, it is totally condoned in SL Gor sites. Slavery OK; fantasy rape not.
There is only one solution for LL to get out of the morass they put themselves into: create an island for all the morally confused ultra-conservative idiots to live on and get out of the moral-police business in the rest of SL.
It would be fun, however, for the rest of SL to tune in on the ultra-conservative island now and then and watch the totally moral bloodbath as the various religion factions duke it out over who is the most morally pure of the lot.

More shinies, more features most don’t want, more broken bits. I’m so looking forward to this wedensday.
I spend more time reading the blogs and fourms these days than actualy in-world. When I do login it’s only to check my store, and I’ve noticed my sales fall tru the floor in the last month so unless my account shows an increase in ballance I don’t even bother checking on the store. I had such big plans for my products when sculpties came in, yet I have yet to make a single one. We were promised an “offical” plugin for 3ds max yet all we have are procedural workarounds for those who have the $3500 to buy the latest versions of max (thx to those ppl who did that btw, much apreciated and when I can afford to upgrade from V.5 I’ll give it a go)
I use to like to fly my helecopter and sail my yacht, nither of which I can do anymore. If it’s not ban walls, it’s full parcles. If not that it’s no build/no scripts almost everywhere even on matanence land. I’m lucky if I can find a sim to rez my vechle on let alone fly/sail it anywhere. I can understand why people put up ban walls, and switch off build/object entry/scripts, it’s the only way to protect your privacy and/or land from greifers (under-age and otherwise) after all.
I supose I’ve been lucky, I have a decent machine and a fast connection, so I don’t usualy suffer from many of the problems ppl keep reporting such as failed TP’s, crashes, missing inventry ect… But I can sympithise with those who do. I too would like to know when my friends are actualy online. I would also like to know that the money I have spent on flexi-prim hair will not look inside out after every update, or dissapere whenever I walk past a window or other prim with a transparency. Little niggles I know but they are my little niggles. All I ask from a game is some form of playability, something which SL has rapidly stoped being.
Sorry for going on a bit but I’m bored and SL isn’t worth logging into anymore. When Stargate Online finaly gets up and running you are all welcome to come and worship at the feet of your goddess. Untill then I’ll just have to spend my time here on the few interesting parts of SL, the blogs and fourms.

@35
I feel the same and have invested nearly $20,000 USD since last November. Linden Labs really doesn’t care what people think within these forums. If they did something would be done. Their target audience is new users with free accounts. They feel they can convert these and are willing to give up others that are fed up with a bug riddled system. Think of it this way, they have your money already, your value potential has been tapped and user churn is expected.
Linden Labs still won’t address enforcement of their TOS and i have had to deal with fraud, slander and outright theft in a game that their own VP of marketing feels isnt really a game and more like an extension of real life.
The best way to get Linden Labs to fix things is to stick with the basics, think twice before telling friends this is cool and spend as little as possible. The more you spend, the more things stay the same.

HERE HERE
Customer service in SL TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
********************
Alle the above here is so true.
Due to a mistake of Linden Support, I could not log in for 3 !!!!!!!! weeks.
Every day I sent an e-mail for help to support.
After 16 days the first reaction came, but no actual help.
I am again online now for about six weeks. Today a Linden sent me an email that I could not log in due to ’security issues’. The left support hand does not know what the right support hand is doing.
Update, after update, after update…….and no stability or improvement and ofcourse the updates takes always place when america is asleep and europe is awake!
The SL idea is very good,…the Lindens are killing it!

Someone to tell the Lindens to fix the huge amount of Bugs. Lag, Client crashes, Inventory problems, and you think about voice !!!
If now a company whould come to make a similar system , I am shure a lot of people whould change there.
Client crashes, 99% of the time, are NOT LL’s problem. Usually, they are yours. Clean up your system. Once the client is installed, LL losses all control over it. Uninstall Limewire and whatever other “free” programs you installed. They don’t do you any good.
The client never crashes for me. Ever. Why? Because I don’t run my system as an administrator and don’t get infected with spyware or trojans which quickly become runaway processes.

its both amusing AND sad how, even with LL spending 70% of their manpower on bugfixing and scalability, everyone happily bitches away in the fashion of “ONOZ JOO MUST TEH FIX STUFFS!! IT NOT WORKING!!”
if anyone would read the release notes posted a few posts above mine, they would *maybe* see that 1.17.0 is primarily a huge bugfix release. theres no voice in it, theres no windlight in it. but lots and lots of bugfixes. so Ill be happy with this release.
oh and by the way, did you notice how considerably well the grid is currently running under its new record peak user load of over 45k?
nope, I guess you didnt. *shrugs and enjoys SL*

FirstLook available for the first time in about 6 weeks has been my saviour. Without it my life in SL has been absolute hell. Basically destroyed because it wasn’t available. First time I have come across a p2p program without alternative versions when the main one doesn’t work. FirstLook has solved all my issues, but what I greatly worry about is that it will not be available again with the new update. Please please please make FirstLook permanently available. Hello Linden Labs,
please please please I’m desperately begging you: don’t do that update on the 6th of June. I am going to show my presentation for the master of arts degree at the academy of fine arts vienna on this dat somewhen around 12am to 4pm cet and I desperately need the grid for that.
I’ll try to swap my date of presentation to the 5th. But again, please don’t do it on the 6th if it colud be possible anyhow!
Thanks in advance

Predictably, 1.17 will probably come with a TOS update. One likely declaring full liability on users, or paving the way for the verification they have been so careful to be totally silent about. Prepare for the snipe on a very unpopular issue, especially after Daniel’s recent blogpost now likely deliberately buried.
http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/31/keeping-second-life-safe-together/
We are facing a police state, where things are twisted and users valueless. With the loss of the users will come the lost of investors and sponsors. 45k user concurrency, sure. The vast majority of them are non content creators, likely. Noncontributors to the growth of the world. Free accounts who came in to artificially inflate the levels of this world so as to attract investors who will have little reason to stay when it’s discovered just how much fluff is there, and how little substance…
Lindens, *please* listen to your userbase and *WORK WITH US* on adding some real substance to this world. Verification was NOT a majority want, and the new witch-hunt proposed in a now-buried blog post also was not requested by a majority– Please read your comments and talk to your residents! Town halls do not achieve anything. Sit down with a sampling of the population not chosen conveniently by time or geography, and listen. Don’t talk, listen.

@ Selkit Diller
“The vast majority of them are non content creators, likely. Noncontributors to the growth of the world.”
There is no content scarcity in SL. In fact there are too many content creators and too few content consumers. That’s why your stuff does not sell. That’s why free account holders have no incentive to upgrade, buy land, and set up a shop. For example, I can build, script, and sculpt quite well, but I have no idea who to sell my stuff to since all the people around me can build, script, and sculpt too. Too much supply, too little demand. That’s why there is no growth. Stopping free accounts will make this situation even worse. You will basically end up with a community of shop holders trying to sell things to each other. It would not make sense.

@ 51
That’s probbly because in SL content creation is about the only interesting thing to do - long-term at least. Sure people might enjoy shopping around for stuff and going to events for a while - but the novelty soon wears off. That’s boring stuff.
Myself I am interested in content creation only - i have no friends, don’t participate in any events, seldom speak to anyone. When i do go shopping - its for something i can’t be bothered making myself.

I hope some day that the the second life client will be free of memory leaks. That would be the feature I would like most.
No matter how many people may stand up and say there are no memory leaks in the client, I say to them, respectfully, there are memory leaks.
This client’s memory consumption will encrease and encrease over hours until the the client dies no mater how must memory you have.
I’ve had one client die of out of memory conditions on systems with 2GB and 4GB of system memory and plenty of swap space.

If you don’t mind the idea of subcontracting a no-payment-info-on-file resident, I will gladly make any kind of sculpted prim you need. I use Blender. One of my first sculpty creations has been an avatar resembling H.R.Giger’s “Alien”. Feel free to IM me in-world for a demo.

“Their target audience is new users with free accounts.”
Reading the blogs and sites, and asking people who play SL, you can not wonder people opt for a free account if they can.

I agree with #41!
I spent money on those ratings, they costed more than my uploads
I want a refund, the ratings belong to me, and property to people they were gifted to.
What will be in 1.17? Voice? This identification verification thing? When will that be implemented?
Also…
FIX THE BLOODY CRASH-ON-STARTUP BUG (please) BEFORE YOU RELEASE ANOTHER VERSION! (or the version with voice)
CRASH-ON-STARTUP for ATI RADEON X300 AND X600 USERS HAS STILL NOT BEEN FIXED, THIS BUG HAS BEEN HERE SINCE THE BEGINNING AND THAT’S, WHAT? LIKE 4 MONTHS OR SOMETHING RIDICULOUS.

BUG FOR THE VOICE CLIENT NEEDS TO BE FIXED - WHICH HAS OCCURED SINCE DAY ONE! - Which was apparantly (according to a Linden who blogged) being fixed, that must have been back in march or something, LIAR(s)? UPDATE US ON THIS ISSUE!
DO IT
Oh and other bloggers (the cranky aholes), please refrain yourself from posting me cocky comments about using caps. It’s called expression. Expressing my frustration as a pissed off unsatisfied resident who is speaking for most of the ATI x300/600 users here. Ri about now in the world of The Lozlo, it’s either caps or cussing

Crash-on-startup - Occurs on Voice Client only
I also found that when I edited the shortcut target (deleted the other crap that occured after the “s the client actually loaded up and I was able to survive in-world for 5-10 minutes before crashing again.
Removing this text from the shortcut just confuses me, what on earth is it there for anyway? Without the default shortcut does it not enable voice, because when I get on voice I don’t know how the hell to work it & I attempt to talk on mic, I don’t see any speach gestures or a electric bolt hanging over my head like i’m some angel of the lightbulb.
Oh and thumbs down to the confusing and uncooperative disgusting new interface layout. LORD O’ MIGHTY!
Thx.
Big kisses.

Release notes would be appreciated a few more days before the initial update, instead of last minute.
It’s nice to know what’s being released because if this damned voice is coming to the grid it’d mean me having to go out and buy a new bloody graphics card. Would LL like to pay for it? Oh and some more RAM would come in handy ^^
“Oh and” maybe if the blog had and EDIT feature for comments I myself and many of users could update their ONE post with replies to others instead of taking up 1/8th of the blog themselves.
My bad for the lack of fullstops being replaced to the many unbreathable ,’s. You see I could have also corrected my shameful typos too!

@ 57:
Why do you want to be informed earlier? You can’t do anything against the updates anyway.
And as you know, that voice will be added in one of the following updates, why not buying your new graphics-card now. You’ll need it anyway.
As long as we can’t really choose wether or not we want to install those updates, it is totally unimportant, when to get those informations…
and @ all: And by the way… in general… a little bit control is okay.
I don’t want those m..f..ers trade child-porn in here. And I would appreciate it, if anyone would tell this linden labs, if he gets to know about it.

Priorities - Voice ? I use a iBook G4 Mac with sound disabled on a wireless FIOS network. Works fine. Will I buy an entire new machine inorder to talk to someone. Never.
This is incrediably complex software - and I have little problem with the application, but I will not risk my machine setup to try out a “new sky effect” however nifty it might be. I’d rather talk with friends, meet new Avatars and work on optimizing my 512 m2 little plot.
I would like the ocean environment fixed up for sailing. I hope the AmericasCupAnywhere corporate SIMs will make for better sailing elsewhere.
What most folks miss in these postings is that SL is a Capitalist Enterprise. Linden Labs is in place to make money. The “comfort” of the residents is probably low on the list when $2000 + USD Islands are selling like hotcakes. Check the money changing hands. That’s real money - not Lindens!
I think the effort of the employees [ the Lindens ] is incrediable. Where else is upgraded software created every week! Amazing.
I can’t imagine the pressure being placed on these individuals to code their brains out every day.
I like to be patient with these situations and I will be. This is an amazing environment and I hope it continues to exist for a long time.

let them change the TOS, stupidity has no limits.
As one already said, i’ll not change anything. If the moralistic people ban me, there’s no further reason to stay…abnd a lot of poeple would go with me.

Ok, so maybe I am still a newbie but I am already way hooked. I got really hooked on second life about a month ago and since then my computer kicked the bucket. I recently bought a new laptop which of course inevitably has vista and now, alas, I can no longer access second life meaning that my first life is meaningless and empty. Any idea as to when we could see a patch or another version for the NVidia Geforce 6150 Go video card? I am getting desperate!
