Downtime Tomorrow (Wed. May 23)
Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 at 12:17 PM by: Jeska LindenWe are planning the release of Second Life 1.16.0 tomorrow. The Second Life Grid will not be available Wednesday May 23 from 6AM – 12PM PDT during the update. Please note, a viewer update will be required.
This release includes fixes which address several high priority issues, including one particular type of content loss, which we wanted to get out as soon as possible. There are also several other changes included in the release, stay tuned to this blog for more information very soon.
Thank you all for your patience as we continue to improve the Second Life experience.

Woot keep up with the bug fixes, nice to know LL is workin hard
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:24 PM
Will v1.16 include everything on the beta grid, that is sculpties and voice chat?
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:28 PM
could you please put the GMT-time in this postings again, as you did for some while ?
m whole brain capacity is sucked off by SL usage - not possible to think about time zones all the time ?
don´t you wann put our new sharkland SIMs put in while downtime ?
would be a nice supprise…
*gg*
and: sculpties… ok.. i´m even more impress to have clouds…
will they be in ?
cheers
Ralf

Hoping that sculpted prims aren’t featured in this release. The stability and priority above other vital vixes doesn’t make them ready for this release.
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Yeah! Voice and Sculpties! YEAH!
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:34 PM
2pm - 8pm GMT
Hope Group IM is included in the fixes
/me crosses her fingers

Woot! Woot! WOOT!
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:35 PM
Wait, 4PM -> 10PM here O.O Darn.
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Link to release notes please?
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:50 PM
Will the beta grid be up, and if so, is there a new beta version release?
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:52 PM
only: great
lol @ ralf ^^
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:53 PM
What’s the status of age verification and 1.16? Still forcing it on us with this release, or have we been given a reprieve until you figure out a way to do it sanely and without raising massive security and privacy concerns?
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:55 PM
It would be nice to announce in advance, maybe some notice last week. I pray that the platform becomes stable and scaleable.
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Yes one bug that really needs fixing is the group chat opening again when anyone sends a message even after the user closes the group chat.
May 22nd, 2007 at 12:58 PM
I will cross my fingers and hope that the new client and the new server mods make the game more reliable. Thank you for taking some time to fix bugs.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:03 PM
again!!!! Downtime seems to be peak UK time so bang go our sales.. this is getting insane, how can we run a business with the amount of downtime, rolling restarts weekend breaks , maybe a smoke break??
and guys my patience has gone….like many other users!
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:06 PM
It’s going to be someones prime time no matter what time they choose.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:08 PM
Hoping this will not be game over for those of us who can’t stop crashing in the beta grid :/ Best of luck with the update…
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:11 PM
No voice tomorrow, says Which Linden right now at the office hours.
But sculpties might come!
Voice might be 1.17 he said. And new Skies will be out as First Look Real Soon Now (TM).
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:14 PM
Never mind those who can’t stop crashing in the Beta grid, Gillian! What about all of us, Mac users and PC users alike, who have been crashing up to 10 times yes 10 times an HOUR on the _main_ grid ever since client 1.14 was introduced?
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Waiting, to see what fixes you have for the stuff you borked in 1.15….
Yes, the Beta grid will be up as usual for five minutes, until it falls over with the “unexpected” load. Presuming of course you haven’t changed your password as suggested by the blog, in which case they won’t let you in for a month.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:18 PM
well, it looks as if sculpties are about to hit the grid then?
I sure am curious how well it will work!
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:21 PM
im scared of every viewer update hope everything goes as it should hehe
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:23 PM
@Tracy: I agree with you entirely, my club and mall draws 90% of its traffic from Europe and almost every week to have to watch my ratings plummet on the traffic lists as the clubs targeting the now smaller American audience out perform me on Wednesday. Then 3 days later I’m back on top as long as the hurried fixes to fix the fixes cause restarts, which are, also targeted smack in the middle of European Prime Time. I have given up getting upset about it and resigned myself to the fact that LL still don’t care about the European time zone. Hell its Just a game and I make it my goal to beat those fevered by LL
As my club is open air I’m really looking forward to the WindLight effects
so keep up the good work.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:23 PM
and wtf did they “bork” in 1.15?
SL runs fine for me and ran fine for me for several versions now and on three entirely different machines…
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:23 PM
Will Qarl fix the maya script so that it creates the sculptie texture so thhat it is not inside out?
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:28 PM
Any chance of a release note, to say what is being fixed?
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:30 PM
Would it be possible, once in a while, to change the update times, so that European people can have a chance to get access to SL on the update days… You are -always- performing updates during Europe peak times… This is getting very annoying and frustrating.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:31 PM
I want sculpt prims but, I hope this means they are not stuck on image compression format. Finger crossed. If they hold off on it a bit longer I would have no problem.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:33 PM
I hate to sound mean but to the europe people, SL is based in california USA. They’re going to operate from their time zone not by anyone elses time zones. Those times are best for their staff so that is why it’s done. Again not to sound mean, but thats what you have to deal with when you play a game that isn’t based in your country.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:34 PM
I think this release needs to be delayed for a month. Give us a chance to do business in a stabilized environment for a while. LL really is doing great and exciting things but these changes and the screw ups on a weekly basis have to stop. LL… You have been here before and you listened and stopped borking it up weekly. then you slid back into your frenzied hurry it up never mind letting the businesses in sl have a say and lets jam stuff in and who cares if it screws up we can fix it later mental attitude.
You need to HALT. Don’t deploy 1.16 yet. wait a month.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Hmm.. let’s hope this upgrade addresses mac concerns of crashing. I too believe we need more advanced notice on upgrades. Also lately there seems to a rush to put these out in rapid succession. I can’t believe you are spending nearly enough time on beta’s checking out the wide variety of setups and having enough beta people in one area to truly test it out. This would include invites to enough people that sign up to test the beta that span the setups of Macs and Windows and perhaps more.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 PM
Well this is a welcome suprise, I thank you much for the notice, I shall hope for great things for this new update.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:42 PM
can we get the release notice of whats actually being fixed?
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:46 PM
Sorry read thinks like Psistorm Ikura says; I was one of the “bork”after the realease of 1.15. My avatar repeat everything, i can not buy i can not change my clothes even i buying Lindens is a very hard process. If this release is going to fix that, well, welcome!!. And only because you don’t have problems you shouldn’t think others don’t have.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:52 PM
Insanity .. roll out a release for a fairly nasty bug caused by too hasty deployment of untested software on a Tuesday .. to be followed by a major update on a Wednesday. You won’t even know if you’ve fixed the last bug!
Only a matter of time before they break it altogether ….
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:53 PM
So I have to say this… I have (4) machines running SL (4!) no crashing no issues and they are all diffrent levels. 1) full blown XPS maxed out, sweet FPS. 2) old compaq with 1 meg ramm crap prosessor that over heats and a FX 5500 slower FPS but no crashes unless other programs are running as well. 3)toshiba notebook 512k unsuported GPX (like the crap one, runs better than the compaq 4) old old toshiba barly can move butno crashing ..
on PCs these UIs have been fairly stable you may want to really think of what you are running besides SL it is a CPU intensive program, maybe open that case and blow out some dust.
I know there are real issues but I would place money on the fact that its more than 60% user issues not the UI.
Bravo for a new UI and more fixes, Bravo for a soon implentation of a real sky, and voice (I dont crash on 3 of the 4 machines on voice beta)
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:59 PM
Please, group IM mute. Please? please? (begs shamelessly)
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:00 PM
yes, link the release notes please, so we can find out what will be broken tomorrow :p
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:01 PM
I did just go into beta - no crashing (YAY!!!1) and no voice. I think it’s good voice is slightly delayed to get the kinks out.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:02 PM
Um, what is being implemented, what is being fixed, added, etc…
Sure hope this isn’t a “We’ll just update and hope that fixes the that we have from the last updates.” update… Or did you just think, what the hell, let’s do an update, no one relies on our silly little platform for meaningful anything?? You folks sure know how to deflate any excitement generated by good news about fundamental changes, sheesh!
Luna
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:02 PM
I am always excited by each new release and look forward to what the future is bringing to SL. It is disheartening, though, to read the string of negative comments that inevitably follow any announcement, good or bad. I know that SL can be a frustrating experience sometimes, but my gosh, what an amazing world! It is a wonder that it can even exist. Relax, folks. Take a breath! Every new release makes our businesses stronger.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:10 PM
Wouldn’t you know it. Tomorrow morning my money finally finishes transferring to paypal so of course as soon as I can buy linden and go shopping at last, the grid will be down. Worst timing ever lol! Anyway I can wait a few extra hours of course, just think the timing is impeccable.

May 22nd, 2007 at 2:18 PM
Ok. I’ll prepare again for database issues and instability like the last two times. But this time I promise not to send a bug report because I know why my sim will crash again.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:19 PM
@24 said “I hate to sound mean but to the europe people, SL is based in california USA. They’re going to operate from their time zone not by anyone elses time zones. Those times are best for their staff so that is why it’s done. Again not to sound mean, but thats what you have to deal with when you play a game that isn’t based in your country.”
That’s arrogant.
Ans if a Linden had said it, t would be not customer oriented, since a lot (maybe the majority) of the customers don’t live in america. Gladly this is not an official Linden statement.
@25
You’re right. As I said elsewhere, I need a break. One update per month (this includes “rolling restarts” where they change the code) would be ok, but not 2 (or even more) per week.
And it’s not that everything works fine for me… not at all!
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:22 PM
1.16.0 shouldn’t have sculpties or voice chat. Joe Linden said last week that voice will be rolled out over a series of First Look clients before making it on the main client release. And I don’t think LL is going to release sculpties until they have an ingame editor.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:23 PM
Because of the silent of what is actually fixed in this so call update, i smell the illegal ID verification scam to start with it, let’s wait a see… Pool are open! how many actual bugs are been fixed VS how many new bug will introduced! taking all bet!
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:25 PM
#37 no sculpties or voice chat? What’s the point of a roll out then?
ingame editor for sculpties is not needed. The work that people have already done on sculpties is quite impressive and I can’t wait to blow some lindens to purchase what the early adopters already have done.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:26 PM
I just hope things get fixed so what time the grid goes down doesnt matter. No matter what the time it will be an inconvience to someone somewhere.
Doing this during the day means you have the senior project people working on this. At night the typical US company is entry level people with very little experiance.
This is due to people not wanting to work at night so those with seniority have the day shift.
It is funny to see people turning all red in the face, foaming at the mouth and thrashing around in a big tantrum only to see them on the next blog all bent out of shape because LL wants to fix things.
Lets see a few hours of inconvience while its being fixed or days possibly weeks on end of problems being an inconvience.
Ill pick the first choice.
Good luck.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:27 PM
I don’t get it. Everyone is whining about the Open Letter Project, and we all want bug fixes, especially for inventory loss and that damn group IM… Why are you all complaining? Deploy this update ASAP. Wait a month? Where’s your business when you can’t rez that dance pole, or when that ultra-expensive dance-pad you purchased is GONE from your inventory?
Please, think about your priorities.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:30 PM
Ignore the naysayers! Patch away!
I can’t wait for sculpted prims. Won’t use voice.
I can’t support only one update a month, but weekly wrap-ups would be nice.
And I want my first look, cutting edge browser back! I’m willing to crash a little more often (was almost LESS than regular client!) and send crash reports as to what a current, up-to-date machine will do when it crashes on the program.
Please, stop writing code for machines with 512mb memory and a 64mb video card! Get with the year 2000!
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:31 PM
I wonder if reply to IM-Email messges will work, for the last few days you can receive IMs but not reply to them. Or is it me.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:39 PM
@42: No, its not just you. Offline IMs go to email fine… but replying doesn’t get through. No error, no nothing.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:40 PM
*wonders when the release notes will be posted…*
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:43 PM
Geez, people complain about the bugs, then they complain about the fixes.
I like to use the downtime to visit RL… Scary, huh? =p
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:47 PM
Nice to have the inventory bug fixed, hopefully this will help with the finding texures while building too
6 hours, I think I might survive that
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:48 PM
Yea! Woo hoo!
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:51 PM
I’m in Europe, and I honestly don’t CARE when LL decides their downtime. If you can’t stay out of SL for a few hours, sorry, you might have a rl problem.
Oh, and in reply to posters 20 and 29: You can add me- there ARE people who don’t have serious problems with SL, it’s just that they don’t say it that often. 3 comps, completely different setups, one is a laptop, ATI as well as NVIDIA cards…and, fingers crossed, nothing serious yet.
May 22nd, 2007 at 2:59 PM
any release notes?
And yes, updates at prime time in Europe is not a really cleaver. why don’t start at 3am there so nobody will be really affected, ok the operators at LL need get up a early for that
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:04 PM
I, for one, want to thank LL for not only keeping up with the times, but also allowing for the fact that some people can’t go out and buy a new computer or OS every six months. Thanks LL for letting the Mac OS version continue to include 10.3.9. Not everybody can buy state of the art graphics cards or 4 GHz PCs running the newest version of Vista. Those who want or can afford the faster machines with 256 Meg video ram can tune SL to their liking in preferences, while those of us on budgets can still enjoy SL on their older Windows PCs and G4 Macs with the settings impossible for the machines to achieve dimmed as they are in current viewers. When somebody like LL is willing to concede to so many diverse types of possible computer power and platforms available (Okay, granted DSL or other broadband necessary), they have truly created an egalitarian online community that they can be proud of. I salute LL for this, and will continue to proudly participate in SL because of it. Best wishes LL and good luck on the upgrade.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:05 PM
Also hoping this fixes the bug/loophole that somehow enables griefers to make their names unfindable in the Abuse Report name find facility, rendering the report unsubmittable.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:10 PM
I’m willing to be alot of people crashing is because they have onboard intel chipsets. If this update is maditory as it seems and crashes because of lack of intel chipset support playing wont be much fun anymore until i can afford and Ati or Nvidia graphics card. I’m glad to see updates and improvements but please.. so many of us run new duo-core computers with intel graphics chipsets (256mg). Just wondering why such new and fast computers arnt suported ??
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:11 PM
Hey. i have problems with SL. ( Graphic problems) i cant move and SL Load it’s very slow , please my friends have problems too . Thanks
slurl: Foxboro (200,15)
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:16 PM
@ 48 Darth: How to AR griefers, particularly their objects when the name isn’t found: Search for the name from the AR window search button, then when it says “*** not found ***” (I forget what it says exactly), click that message. It will put that where the name should go. Fill in the name in the text area at the bottom. I’ve used that several tiimes successfully to report griefer prims where the griefer name wouldn’t come up.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:19 PM
Another week another Update! I hope voice is in this one, it will improve Second Life by leaps and bounds. I think it’s great that they have so many updates, compared to other companies like SOE who only update once a month to roll out new content and leave known bugs in the game for litterly years if they bother to fix them at all. A service like Second Life that offers free accounts, endless content, along with constant fixes, and improvements is the only one of it’s kind. I’m all excited to see the new stuff on the main grid, I wonder how it will effect the dynamics of everything!
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:19 PM
To all of the Europeans complaining about the update time, hate to point out, but Linden Labs is a US based company. More important, although US members are now not the majority of accounts, they are the majority of paying accounts and estate owners.
I don’t mean to be harsh, but I think paid accounts take priority over free accounts. This is aligned with the new tiered support policy and general capitalism- those who pay more get more service and convenience.
When Europeans comprise the majority of paying accounts and revenue, fine, switch the updates to a time more convenient.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:33 PM
You gotta know that they are a US based company. They have lives and family too. They aren’t doing this for Europes inconvenience.
As of the update.. Hope it does more good this time than bad.

I have a X1950 Pro video card….crash all the time when the grid is busy. When it’s slow I don’t crash.
Sometimes opening an URL from SL will trigger a reboot. Sometimes I just get a random hourglass which NEVER goes away. Sometimes it’ll do an hourglass then reboot.
My PC is only about 6 weeks old, and it’s not running hot.
May 22nd, 2007 at 4:23 PM
wow thanks a lot for looking at the content loss!
May 22nd, 2007 at 4:25 PM
It isn’t that hard to install a new video card in an existing machine. That is a fix that is much cheaper than a new computer. nVidia cards are the recommended card, but you have to dig reeeealy deep in the information base to discover it.
May 22nd, 2007 at 4:44 PM
@Skyler Here Here, as they say in England, that was very well put.
@Gabe Palmer I will ignore your pure arrogance and point out that I and many others in The Euro Time zone, which you may notice covers the British Isles and 2 continents, a considerably larger land mass than the continental United States. Many of who are also long standing paying members of SL who run businesses. And bringing RL business into SL is the future. As for your assertion that “the majority of paying accounts and estate owners.” Are American I failed to notice that in the published Stats, I hope that LL will include it future reports as you appear to have inside info.
@Moderator Not trolling just blowing off stream, please delete if it’s over the top.

May 22nd, 2007 at 4:58 PM
@73 It has been stated in numerous blogs and news stories. Try Google. Also, it is a US company, not European.
May 22nd, 2007 at 5:16 PM
Globalisation, is that not an American concept? And when said in a sentence that includes Google I’m honestly not sure if you are for or against my stance. But sorry, I too am being arrogant. IM me in world, I would like to meet, this is one of the few places we can say ok lets take this “Online”
May 22nd, 2007 at 5:49 PM
I was also crashing several times an hour or never fully “rezzed” so that I could move. Hope that will be fixed. I also spent $2000 + L$ yesterday on clothes - and they are not in my inventory.

May 22nd, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Sculpties? Clouds? Group IM’s? 1.15 caused my credit card company to think my identity had been stolen!!!! It took me two days to get my cards back, and Lindex now refuses to accept them. I cannot buy anything. My premium account is gone. My business is hosed! I think there are bigger problems to be concerned with than clouds and sculpties. Two GIANT thumbs down for Linden Labs!!!
Hang on to your money people - it’s about to go down the Linden drain.
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:28 PM
I’m kinda wishing sculpties wouldn’t be rolled out just yet. I’m looking forward to them as much as the next guy, but there’s still some kinks (literally) - see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-713 for an issue I found whose fix (if it does, in fact, fix it) is apparently still a couple of weeks away. Also, I’m concerned about the fact that the sculpt texture to vertex mapping doesn’t seem to match up - you’ve got 32 rows of pixels mapping to *33* rows of vertices on the mesh. o.O
I know you guys are eager to get this feature out there, but it really does feel rushed. Please consider spending some more time testing it so that content creators don’t have to worry about possibly re-working their creations later on to compensate for changes made to the system.
May 22nd, 2007 at 9:51 PM
Buster McNutt Says:
You can allready do that! Stop asking for things we allready have
Dearheart, if we could already do that, I wouldn’t have to deal with at LEAST 30 complaints a day from a group of over 3000.
May 22nd, 2007 at 11:05 PM
Advance notice would be appreciated. Taking the time to deal with fixes and bugs efficiently so that downtime is not required EVERY WEEK would be even more greatly appreciated. The downtime required and being taken is ridiculous. Question: Do other programs get new releases every week or two? I have never seen it done like this before. Tired of it.
May 22nd, 2007 at 11:42 PM
*growls* can ya put it off for one day? i get married tomorrow =/
May 23rd, 2007 at 12:42 AM
I’m really unsure where to put this.. it’s FEEDBACK on a GUI change. in beta 1.16.0 (105), a new unified Local Chat, IM, and Voice console was introduced, named “chatterbox”.
It’s REALLY hard to use. The “Near me” tab doesn’t blink when people in the local area chat. Likewise, the window has limited resizing available due to features on the new “My Friends” tab.
Over the last six months, I’ve learned to keep my IM window wide and short along the top, and the “History” window short and fat in the bottom left corner. Now I can’t do that. IM and history have become one and the same window. The voice features take up a large area in the “near me” tab, rendering the chat history nearly useless. And if you dare switch to an IM tab, local chat begins appearing below the history window (the entire reason I leave the history window open is to eliminate this scrolling text all over my work)
You guys sprung this new feature on us on tuesday evening.. and I really have to say, it’s NOT READY to be added to the release tomorrow (gods I hope you see this). there is WAY TO HUGE potential for “wrong window” issues.. and even running at 1280×960, the “chat” window now takes up nearly 1/6 of my screen at all times.
Please please please… this chat window concept needs a lot of work. There’s some promise there, but it’s SO not ready for prime time.
May 23rd, 2007 at 12:55 AM
@ 79
*wry grin* Really, really, nice to hear you found this special one… But honestly… Planning a wedding on a WELL KNOWN update day?
O.o
o.O
Even if LL did NOT announce it earlier, they done this often enough to be clever enought to NOT plan a wedding, a meeting, the opening, the WHATEVER IMPORTANT on an update-day ^.~
May 23rd, 2007 at 1:07 AM
hm .. another new release do download .. didnt count the numerous ones during the last months.
The Result will be:
- Second Life cannot be used with more than 30.000 Users online, which is every day form approx 4pm to 1am (GMT)
- this resulting in the well known troubles:
- extreme lag
- loss in inventory
-hairs on ass, clothing gray
aso…
i dont need a release 1.16, whatever the new features are, I need a stabel and runnign SL - ALWAYS!
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:25 AM
*cries* as another RL mega-presentation of SL to an audience of academic researchers, students, and RL business owners goes down the drain…
Ah well. It’s all for the best, I guess… we’ll pray that we can do at least some of the presentation on the Beta Grid, until it crashes after the first 500 people come online there.
“Imagine a virtual world that allows you to do all the things we’re telling you… if the grid were up…”
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:45 AM
when we gonna get jiggly boobies and buns hun????
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:57 AM
Yes, I should change out a $200 video card the paint’s barely dry on, in the hope that it MIGHT fix a bug in SL. It’s funny that this video card would make the SL viewer crash when the grid is busy, but work well when it’s not.
Some of the Lindens are running this card.
It easily has enough power to run 4x the video processing SL needs.
Power isn’t everything, the issue is compatibility and scalability here. SL doesn’t even use 50% of my CPU power.
I guess I could try going to a single core processor, dumping my AMD X2-4200. The suggestions about CPU affinity did nothing except slow me down. Maybe I could even drop down to 1 gig of memory. Having too much memory used to be a problem with Windows 98 I remember.

There is a reason less and less Americans are visiting Second Life. Let’s hope the Lindens find out before it’s too late (and before our friends across the pond start the same).
/me hugs everybody

@ 83:
Gwyneth: As another poster said about a wedding planned in SL… why are you planning major SL events on Wednesday mornings, SL time? Anybody who has been in world for more than a month should know that planning ANYTHING on Wednesdays before 2PM SL Time is rather dangerous.
When I see posts like this, I am reminded of folks who insist on moving back into flood zones. With all respect to you, I just don’t have any sympathy.

Please, please, please give us a break from updates and fixes, get it right then release them!. I’ve only just recovered from the last one!!

Its looking good but I am seeing only Vista being sold on new machines. So I would like to see a little more stability and concentration on ensuring Second Life can work with the new Vista drivers for NVidea.
I may be wrong but I dont think there is official support yet in SL for Vista, and regardless of how top heavy the system is, SL is going to have to upgrade to Vista eventually whether we like it or not as Microsoft has already started to limit support for XP, and newcomers can no longer buy new copies of XP.
So news on that front we be very welcome.

Cat - one of the reasons is that LL routes their monetary transactions thru a bank in London. Go ahead - try to use a Capital One card after 1.15… guarantee - your 1st and 2nd life will be destroyed. Can’t wait to see what 1.16 has in store.

OMG.. after all the updates and the trouble I have getting back in after them… it scares the CRUD outta me when there is a “required” update. The last time they did that, it took me DAYS to get back in.
May 23rd, 2007 at 6:11 AM
hoping this isnt off topic but wasnt sure where it would fit in… makes a suggestion that the limit on groups be extended or done away with , 25 is hard for one to stick to , when you have stores offering groups and your jobs have several you have no room for fun clubs you frequent, and also it might b nice if at some point you can have a button on groups window that allows you to disable recievign their IM’s instead of having to leave group when all you want is a lil quiet time especially if your ‘busy with someone special’ grinz…. just some suggestions since i dunno where to suggest em for give me if this is in wrong place hoping yall get things squared away with this downtime!!!… slips off to do some rl catching up while down hugs and happy sl’ing

llRegionSay() sounds awesome. I have software systems that rely heavily on llShout() to create intricate networks, but they often suffer from the 100m limit. This should solve that well. Thanks.

Hi guys well the downtime does not bother me. Just means I get some extra work in around the house. I understand the frustration of those the downtimes effect on a regular basis but like it has been stated previously because of where their offices are based there is just no way around it. The lindens do have a life besides SL and they deserve to be able to live it. I DONT expect them to work during late night just so I don’t have to go and find somthing else to do for part of a day. So no disrespect to anyone mind you I see both sides and must respect them both. I hope you all have a wonderful day and hugs to all.

Scheduled downtime is proceeding as planned, and logins have been restricted. For details on the contents of today’s patch, please refer to the previous posts here on the Official Linden Blog. I’ll be bringing you the play-by-play this morning, with hourly updates should all go smoothly.

Well, yes, I suppose it’s probably inconvenient in Europe. But it’s not precisely convenient for me, either. I do the majority of my “work” on SL (building, setting up vendors, other background things) between 8 am and 12pm eastern time. It’s really the only time I can. Ohhh, that works out so that it’s covered by the usual maintenance window! Uh oh! So, I’m just *SURE* the Lindens are targeting MY primary work window JUST to inconvenience ME. They’re out to get me! AND the Europeans, too of course.
Maybe a third life is in order for those who can only complain about Second Life being nothing but a f*uckup. Sure, I get tired of things getting bolluxed up when they do. Sure, I get tired of the frequent downtime. But you know…I get a great deal of enjoyment from SL. If the cost for that is $10 and 24 hours or so downtime per month, I can live with that.

Well frankly speaking thats not the case anymore about attached prims and teleporting with todays second life. But failed Teleporting is a result islands/sims server issues and not as you say with attached prims ( yes in the old days ) but not now. When i Teleport these days I don`t fail. BUT!………….When the servers on LLABS side are having issues i can`t teleport. EVEN those high mightly 5 class servers are a nightmare when teleporting………
Oh please.
Teleporting failure DOES occur because of attachments which contain far too many prims.
When people ‘Detach all’ they can TP everywhere when it has nothing to do with “islands/sims server”. What you’re talking about, Usagi, is a different case.

#91 - English please
Unlimited groups is a bad idea, we’ve already upgraded the ammount of groups we’re allowed to join.
What’d be really helpful is extra Pick tabs, not unlimited but maybe a total of 15-20 picks, I know this would benefit alot of other people for many different reasons.

( I don`t understand what your point really but here I go )
Gesh detaching is a old way to tp in to locations that are having issues. I never detach prims anymore when entering high population sims/islands. I spend 90% of my time on sl in high population areas. ( 70 to over 100 agents.) yes they rule “WAS” to detach prims like hair, shoes etc. But really because of the better processing of data during peak times. the old fashion of “2004″ Detach all prims just doesnt no apply anymore. With now “FLEX HAIR” “Even worse shoes prims” “WALKER” BLING etc…….we are ahell of alot more populated and more prim wearing then 1 2 3 yers ago.

Back to my asking anyone in the beta game yet? Still can`t get in.
May 23rd, 2007 at 7:36 AM
My point is residents should be able to TP when wearing all attachments, this should be fixed.
My point before was that sculpted prims are being released and new and more complex shapes will be possible without linking a large ammount of prims together. In otherwords there will be a chance of being able to TP more often with low prim attachments.
I don’t want to know about your caveman 2004 stories. That was then, this is now, and “franky speaking” this problem is still here today and the solutiont o the problem (detaching all attachments) still works today, so your argument does not apply.

Common sense? If you had any common sense, you’d know there is atleast a fair ammount of people on the grid.
If you had common sense you wouldn’t post such a wasteful message to provoke me to replying to that message thus me and you taking up more commenting space. Questions which you have already asked previously which if posts continued the results of your question will not be answered.
So much for “MAKING SENSE”.
