As to the age verification - Yeah Baby!!!!! Don't want to verify, no problem, no mature for you. Can't play without the sex - C YA!!!

No simpathy, no empathy, NADA, nothing!!! Dropping verification was the worst mistake LL ever made. At least this is a start back in the right direction.

Maybe it will also grid of some of the trashier areas of SL as well.

Want to get rid of griefers, they wont verify so just declare your land mature. LOL

FYI - this is not about shifting responsibilty onto the 3rd party verification vendor. It is about making the venue owners and sex dealers and casino owners and dungeon owners responsible for their content, while at the same time helping to keep under age off the main grid.

Bottom line, if an underage user has a little sexapaid on your land, and parents are upset about it, and local sheriff is upset about it, the DA decides it was wrong, you, mr / ms land owner, are responsible.

That is what this is about.

While the "sculpties" look good, they will have some fairly limited applications due to issues I have found.

1) Prim ends up substanially larger than standard prim of same dimensions. If you set a box to 1.5,1.5,1.5 and then use the scuplted_cube texture, the box expands to approx twice that.
2) SL appears to treat the original size as the actual surface, so if you sit on the above cube, your head is all that sticks out. Also, walking at one, it appears at first to be phantom, then you hit solid where the surface of the normal cube would be based on the dimensions set in edit.
3) The faces appear to be treated as a single surface, no faces 1,2,3, etc. Not sure how textures will work, but it seems they will have to be designed for a specific shape of "sculptie" to work.

All in all though, still very exciting.

Everyone who's whinging about the open letter: Get smart.
These new features have been in the works for some time. To just discard them would be a huge waste of resources. You have no reasonable expectation that they should drop everything.

You are also being unreasonable when you think they are ignoring bugs. They are being worked on, if you look at the now open source of the viewer, you'll see why it's going so slowly. There's quite a mess to clean up. It's going to take much time. The transition from the old methods to the new will be very rough (as transitions tend to be). You will no see results for a while EVEN IF they completely drop all additional work on new features and get everyone on bug hunting.

That's just life. Suck it up.

After speaking to a friend of mine who is a Magistrate here in the UK, without going into the in's and out's of the convo I've been advised NOT to give out those details. there's not a chance in hell I'd allow any online game to have my passport and or driving licence details aswell as my CC details.Specially not one with the reputation of LL/SL. Here in the UK you must be over 18 to have a credit card (not talking a debit card) so that is enough for LL to know I'm over 18. (28 if ya must know)
I understand why they're trying to do it but there other ways of going about it

Age verification is nonsense. If kids are on the grid, it is the responsability of their parents. Not Linden Lab, not me, not anyone else's.
I can go online and visit a gazillion very graphic porn sites without any verification whatsoever and without having to pay a penny. So why should LL suddenly play NetNanny?
If you block me from mature sims I might as well pack up and leave. I sell clothing which is mature to the narrowminded. I WILL NOT EVER conform to the moral standards of a country which turns blue in the face over NippleGate.

I had to download and install the new version to go on the beta grid.
I had no chance to say "no thanks, I don't need that voice-chat bug". (The good thing about voicechat is that I am sure it will not work right anyway)
After installing, something connected to that voicechat is asking to connect to the internet, my firewall blocked it.
As a "Thank you", this viewer is working only in 1 second steps: The screen is updated once per second. If type, rez, move, walk: wait one sec, than you'll see.
At the townhall meeting they often said that most of the bugs just show on heavy load. But this is not heavy load. It is a sign that the testing done my LL is insufficient, and they force us to do it for free. (Sorry, not for all, some of us even pay for that).

Nice sculptured prims, btw. Haven't seen one yet there, they are probably displayed in between the 1-second-steps.

Oh come on LL. The whole points of an Av is that its ANONYMOUS. There is no way I going to provide some bunch of strangers with my passport details. Bring this in and its time to more to another VR.

P.S. Please fix the viewer so it doesn't hard crash every twenty minutes.

Am having trouble digesting this one. Open letter requests bug-fixes, not new features, meeting held to acknowledge letter, letter then ignored by new update with new features...
Hmm.
Age verification.
So if I want to do rude things on my own land, I just turn off the mature flag and ignore the verification.
I don't like giving out my credit / ID details on the net if I can possibly help it. If there is ANY way I can avoid giving yet someone else those details. I will.

ll doesnt have to worry about the age verification. they are covering themselves from being sued by using a third party. then *when* the third party givces away your info or allows fraud in sl then it isnt LL's fault. duh.

About age verification : it's nonsense.
-------------------------------------------

How will LL (or this famous 3rd party) ensure that teens don't get hold of their dad's or mom's ID card/driver's license/passport, and simply write down the number ?

How will LL (etc) ensure that there is no program on the internet that allows to generate random, yet working, ID card/etc numbers ?
