Help Plan the Second Life Fourth Birthday Party!
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 at 2:40 PM by: Iridium LindenAs many of you may know, June 23, 2007 will mark the fourth anniversary of Second Life’s launch. In the past, Resident and Linden events have been held to celebrate the community, and this year we’re pleased to announce that the Second Life Fourth Birthday (SL4B) will be an event to remember.
The SL Birthday Volunteers group is already hard at work and has chosen a theme. Likewise, the SL4B Ad Contest is under way! Want to help plan the party? An open meeting will be held at the Pooley Stage to discuss SL4B on Monday, May 7 at 11 am and 7 pm (PDT). Send an IM to SignpostMarv Martin for more information or check out the SL4B wiki to get involved.

Meeting times aren’t that great… Monday is a national holiday here in the UK and I’m sure that the majority of people - myself included - will have other things on their mind than an SL planning meeting especially if it’s a nice day!

Is there anyway teens could participate in this?
May 2nd, 2007 at 2:51 PM
Happy Birthday SL! However, it appears you’re already getting stretchmarks.
Can the SL blog readers please, please, *please* have a blog update regarding the ongioing error messages and database errors in SL since the update today? As well as the teleport problems? And the continuing group IM problem of re-opening the group IMs even after closed - even if there are only IMs that people have left the IM? *my head is spinning*
Get well soon, SL. I love you.

Add it to Jira if you want it taken care of.
May 2nd, 2007 at 2:58 PM
Pizzaguy, why don’t we get a SL4B forum thread going to see what kind of event we can host on the Teen Grid.
Let’s try to stay on topic here. If you are interested in discussing technical issues, please use the forums and by all means, check out the Public Issue Tracker. (Thanks for that link, An.) Lindens are actively reading and posting to the forums, and we plan to continue reading and posting, reading and posting.

Will there be cake?
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:04 PM
Lol, and this time let’s not have the keynote speeches done in venue rotating around a sim corner on rezzable land. Although the stories I’ve heard were fun to read.
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:09 PM
Hard to stay on topic when all the Lindens think about is celebrating the Second Life 4th birthdate. It would seem all you guys think about is embellishment. Stop, take three steps back behind yourself and look at the OVERALL picture. 1000’s of residents are CRYING for your help; to no avail… EVERY update makes SL slower than mollasses in winter… At least with a “service”, I have SOME sort of recourse. You consider LL to be a “service”, but NO service I know of CONTINUALLY breaks the product they manufacture and update, and provide NOTHING but empty promises other than Second Life… Cant wait to smell and hear the smoke blown up you know where tomorrow at the Town Hall Meeting
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:10 PM
Please let there be cake.
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:19 PM
Can we have our cake and eat it too??? LOL
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:27 PM
you cant eat pixels XD
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:41 PM
Celebrate?? Why?? Because your PR department will have drafted a response to the (our) open letter?
May 2nd, 2007 at 3:57 PM
Ok, for lindens, on the TSL forums i made a thread for event ideas:

I LOVE PARTIES !!!!!!!!!!!I LOOVE CUPCAKES AND STRAWBERRIES xD
May 2nd, 2007 at 4:40 PM
I agree with Pizza here, the teens have had just as much fun with SL as the Adults, and WE KNOW HOW TO PARTY
May 2nd, 2007 at 4:54 PM
Jeez Heretic, you have some guts to release such post this week…
This week, we’re not interested in helping plan the Second Life fourth birthday party nor discussing technical issues. We’re interested in not having to deal with these issues again and again…
And the complaints are not from some kids. The Project Open Letter has been initiated by no less than Cristiano Midnight himself and signed by other major supporters and very active Second Life entrepreneurs: Anshe Chung, Shaun Altman, Stroker Serpentine, Aimee Weber, Crucial Armitage, etc.
Some of us PAY dearly for Linden Lab to perform, not to work for Linden Lab to help YOU resolve issues. If some want to help with the Public Issue Tracker with beta or first look versions, fine. But do not ask paid customers to help you do YOUR job. Losing money because of poor Linden Lab performance is enough to bearfor us.
Thank you very much!
May 2nd, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Yea, I’m with Robin and Pizza, I got your back.
May 2nd, 2007 at 5:16 PM
how big you want the cake?
May 2nd, 2007 at 5:30 PM
Maybe you should have an exploding cake that showers us with Lindens and prizes.

It is time to start an evolution animation, taking something specific from SL since its beginning, as the focus, like a baby grows into an adult (and sadly eventually dies) animation.
Perhaps, (and i am just dropping ideas here) something like the Beatles “Sgt Peppers lonely hearts club band” album cover, featuring the growing SL map of (important) people and places, or a sequence of events blended together. I am sure everyone visualises the growth of SL in a personal way and has their own ideas but all of them could be represented collectively.
“Now we are six” is an A.A. Milne poem, and yes, i know SL is only four, but i think like that poem there will be a growing sequence of recorded text too, that centres upon SL`s evolution.
I imagine animations ive seen, the changing seasonal year centred on a growing tree, the planets orbiting the sun, the birth of the universe.
Now we are four…..an audio visual animation of SL since its birth..:)

I count myself as one of the lucky ones who stays in world for more than 1/2 hour…I will celebrate, as I am rather fond of the in world community I have met, and I have had many great times here! Let them eat cake!
May 3rd, 2007 at 12:01 AM
Incony: Or just cake.
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:42 AM
My only ask for this party is that it’s actually staged several times, at times suitable for Europeans/Asians/Australians as well as Americans. Too many SL events are only geared towards US timezones, specifically West Coast, which is crazy as the rest of the world spend cash there as well. SL businesses (Linden Lab included) who fail to target other audiences are missing out on huge opportunities and frankly don’t deserve to make a profit.
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:54 AM
I’m not from the teen grid, but the teeny boppers deserve to have a SL party too, it’s only fair!
“you cant eat pixels XD”
Yessss we can :> my av is an expert pixel muncher!
May 3rd, 2007 at 2:08 AM
You can eat pixels, it just doesn’t do you or your monitor any good.
Will there be fireworks?
May 3rd, 2007 at 4:55 AM
how about a muriel wall, with all the things people have done in sl since it started. like museam of sl history. so newbies can see what sims they missed as sl changes? what ddo other poeple think?
May 3rd, 2007 at 6:21 AM
One of the things that needs doing at the moment is doodles for layout suggestions. An image of the 9 sims is up on the wiki. The theme of this year’s celebrations is one of a historical nature- content and architecture will be styled after the technologies and styles present in each period. Lordfly Digeridoo sent in his thoughts, Patchouli Woollahra has been compiling notes on the development of SL over time- there’s also the SL History Wiki if you’re wanting an idea of where things should go.

Linden Lab aren’t organising the SL4B event- the only Linden Lab peeps that have had anything to do with the event so far are Heretic and Spike. SL4B is a Resident-ran event.
re: Cake
If you can find someone to
bakebuild it, there will be cakeMay 3rd, 2007 at 6:37 AM
Sorry guys, but I will not participate. Not that I am hit with all the Bugs, since I have JIRA I am quite happy, but I will be at a REAL LIFE Motorbike Trip around California, smile. Sorry but that is more important,
If I am in the area of Linden Street in SFO I will honk, but only if I get coffee, smile.

Hey.
I think, for everyone who is at SL for at least a month will get a special birthday present of 5,000 Linden. That would be so great. Everyone would just have better chances to look awesome in SL, everyone would find A Girlfriend or Boyfriend, more wishes would come true. Plusquam, you would help LOTS LOTS lots and i mean it LOTS of people to stay on SL, pay rent, and stuff. It would just be great. I can’t describe it. One day in SL without stress, not-thinking about money. I think, the fourth birthday of SL shouldn’t just be great for the Lindens, no, it should be great for everyone. CU

sayuri: There already is a great Second Life History Museum in-world (don’t have the coordinates to post). It’s really interesting to see the “then and now” of SL there. You should definitely check it out - do a search for it?
Perhaps a copy of the build could be rezzed at the b-day celebration site?
(Next to the cake, I’m thinking. -grin-)
