2007-04-18 release postponed, downtime still required
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 at 12:38 PM by: Torley LindenThe previously announced release of a new Second Life version has been postponed, because several high-priority bugs are unresolved, and we’ve also been concerned about Resident reports of crashing and being unable to login to 1.14. Erring on the side of caution, we’re going to take time to review more data before this release goes out.
Downtime is still required for Operations maintenance and Orientation Island fixes, but shortened to an estimated 7-10 AM PDT.
Our apologies if you’re excited about the new release like we are, and for any inconvenience this may cause.
We’ve been continuing to comb through feedback, including blog comments, and understand there’s been worries about Second Life 1.14.1 — soon to be rechristened 1.15 — which is currently on the Beta Test Grid. This is why we’ve delayed the release, and have been paying attention to ensuring accessibility, stability, and resolving the remaining “blocker” bugs, including:
- Several causes of viewer and simulator crashes; 1.14 startup crashes with certain ATI graphics cards is one we’re been aware of
- Being unable to right-click your avatar while wearing an HUD
More bugs are listed on our Public Issue Tracker, used for watching problems openly. This gives us a greater degree of transparency for resolving issues. Feel free to search, discuss, and report issues. Whenever possible, please include a step-by-step reproduction that a friend can follow — it’s a good rule of thumb for helping us to experience the same problems you’re having so we can fix them soon.
If you’re experiencing problems with the current Second Life 1.14, you’ll want to see “Resolving issues…” on the Knowledge Base.
