UPDATE: No downtime planned for Wednesday, 4/11
Monday, April 9th, 2007 at 8:42 PM by: Robin Linden[UPDATE: Tuesday, April 10, 9:37AM PDT] Confirming there will be no update on 4/11. There will be a new release to the Beta Grid, so come on by and check it out.
[Monday, April 9, 8:42PM PDT] It looks like we will not be releasing an update on Wednesday as previously posted. If that situation changes I’ll post an update here as soon as I confirm.

Thank you! Most excellent, very snog. Carry on! ^ ^

Given that the beta hasn’t been updated for days, and the one that is available doesn’t seem to run for a lot of people, I’d say that trying to roll out an update this week would have been horribly premature. Good move to hold it back.
April 9th, 2007 at 10:29 PM
I agree with Shirley…The update wiped out a lot of us with laptops, and putting the update out would have been awful. Hopefully you can get it sorted to where it works for all of us.
April 9th, 2007 at 11:03 PM
Ah, getting “Can’t connect to Second Life” error on login attempt. I know an earlier blod said to expect errors for that day, but this is now the day after, and still having major issues with tp, login etc. Glad to see the update was pushed out, considering the obvious network issues going on, it would have been a bad move.
Thanks for thinking it through.

Glad that there wont be a update. Since other issues need to be delt with. Such as Teleports not working , Money dissapearing. Clothes not rezing. And continuious Crashes. Maybe LL should considder fixing the exhisting problems before causeing more??
April 9th, 2007 at 11:28 PM
Well, finally got in, but any attempt to tp cause you to disconnect from the region you are in, but don’t establish connection to destination, so, you get logged out. Darn.
April 9th, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Boy do I hope the next update we have is the magic fix a lot of us really need. I dont know about most people but since friday the grid has been far from usable.
April 9th, 2007 at 11:47 PM
Shrugs.
A lot of problems since Friday are probably load related. Failed inventory loads and botched texture / item downloads seem to kill the client off eventually.
The current SL 14.0.1 can run for hours given reasonable data to display
But I am hoping this means some extra time spent looking at the apparent memory leak. That really does seem to be a client killer.
Can I humbly suggest a re-run of the first-look releases?
I’m quite happy to be a crashy guinnea pig if it helps the main client become more stable.
April 10th, 2007 at 12:58 AM
gee.. no downtime. good thing.. there was enough “downtime with between the groups not working and the ims not working to no linden transfers or buying selling.. still…whats up with that?
April 10th, 2007 at 1:16 AM
Is this the way it always is? I am a fairly recent resident of Second Life and I have to say that my impression of the set up is one endless series of mishaps, failed registrations, inabilities to upgrade, crashes every 30 or 40 minutes, avatars failing to render and even a web site that takes 5 or six attempts to log into.
An then I read these blogs and the one thing that is consistent is that the Administration fail to acknowledge problems until they are fixed.
I’ve been considering investing here but as it stands the track record I have witnessed over the last two weeks is less than encouraging.
Has anyone else witnessed such inconsistencies, has Linden been changing personnel or is it running on shoe string in short I’m wondering if what I have experienced over the last 14 days is what I can expect to continue in the next 14 months
April 10th, 2007 at 1:38 AM
The current beta voice is so so screwed up. I have gone back to the main grid just to avoid a crash every 10 minutes. I think a new version can’t come soon enough. Even if it only fixes 40% of the crashes, I’d rather use that version today than wait for a “stable” release (an oxymoron).
Until then, I will continue to spend most my time on the main grid untill a new version comes out.
April 10th, 2007 at 2:03 AM
tell me about it items missing. I am at the point my wallet stays in my pocket until the fix comes out no use buying something if your going to lose it later. Another good reason to find a way to back up your inv on your own hard drive or other storage device.
BTW thank you temple linden for getting Brace’s dance sign back now we can salsa again.
April 10th, 2007 at 2:41 AM
Welp , no update is fine , give your guy’s and gal’s a break , but sure enough , the folks at slexchange can use a hand , send some help in that direction , they been down for hours , longer then you folks normally take to do an upgrade .
April 10th, 2007 at 4:10 AM
This is a lie! SL will go down on wednesday! I can feel it!
April 10th, 2007 at 4:15 AM
@10 with now 6 days waititng for the L$ i piad it doesnt matter if there is a voice client … maybe there is noone to use it …. :/
April 10th, 2007 at 4:25 AM
LOOK DAMNIT:
We are unable to complete your request.
• Could not update a seller’s balance.
• The system encountered an error while processing your order, please try again.
I’M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS. I wanted to buy a $100USD land this morning.
I could not buy linden for 4 days, then I fixed it by deleting my CC info and entering it again.
BUT this morning, I decided to buy a land and I went and upgraded to premium and then tried to buy a land it happened again and could not buy more linden once again! I got a different error message than the first time. WTF I’M SO ANGRY.
!$@?%?&@%¤* GRRRRRR
April 10th, 2007 at 4:55 AM
Erm, I’m not entirely sure what’s to blame, but the past forty minutes or so I’ve been having really odd inventory behaviour, most notably half of what I had attached before not even trying to reattach on login, and on manually wearing things it doesn’t want to serve them, I get “cannot create object / timeout” errors. Happens in a variety of sims regardless of wait time, relog, &c. Anyone else, or am I just screwed?
April 10th, 2007 at 4:55 AM
in main grid running 1.14.0 (1)
i can stay online for as long as i please.
i can teleport
i can buy from prim vendors
i have learned to avoid networked vendors
buying land always works if you have the land owner come over and do the buy for group thing. no chance of land botting there.
there are workarounds to most of the issues but there continue to be issues with networked transactions.
LL moved to a more mature framework to allow for updates that don’t involve a new client rollout every week and the associated instabilities.
Since then things have seemed worse.
but…
things are steadily improving in areas related to the architecture and to back office procedures.
maybe LL can’t wave a wand and it all become perfect instantly.
but things are improving in critical ways.
i will press on with my business.
April 10th, 2007 at 5:05 AM
It’s a shape you wanna postpose the update. The beta is working great graphically (though the sound just sucks).
April 10th, 2007 at 5:05 AM
I meant, shame… lol
April 10th, 2007 at 5:19 AM
Good to hear the update was cancled. Was very worried that it would happen and the ATI X600 video issues would ot be fixed and I’d be locked out. Any word on that fix?
April 10th, 2007 at 5:22 AM
I think that you should be updating. Can’t buy lindens, and i’m just starting my morning in sl. I wonder what else i can find breaking today. hehe
April 10th, 2007 at 5:58 AM
XML-RPC communications have been completely borked for at least 14 hours now and SL Exchange has been forced to disable most functions because of it. Support emails don’t seem to go anywhere, Jira doesn’t get read, and there is no other publicized way I can find to contact on-call staff anymore to report “outage” style problems.
If someone could forward this problem report onto someone who is capable of fixing it or at least show me how to report it myself, I would really appreciate it.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:02 AM
i wonder if anyone else is having the rainbow strobe effect going on… seems to be only in and around scripted areas…. and closed in places. updating my graphics card is a no go. no update. and this all since i d/l’d the strongly urged update…. for better performance and stability. it is MOST annoying. is there a way to un-install it? i had lots less problems before.
on the other hand, i welcome a week without downtime or new viewer update… seems forest gump had the saying right…… (second) life is like a box of chocolates…. you never know what you ‘re gonna get.
hang in there folks… it is bound to improve
April 10th, 2007 at 6:04 AM
Hey if someone can nudge a person / persons over at SL Boutique to put a hold on their site as well until the XML-RPC is back up. I have tried contacting their support since I seem to still be getting purchases attempted through their site.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:14 AM
well I believe that if you folks at LL feel a new client software update is not ready yet, then by all means postpone it until you are confident that it is. Oh by the way I see that the last FL client has been removed from the download area, that is really too bad as it works much better for me than the current 1.14***** release. I hope that you will retry the FL program testing , but if you do, this time please, please, please keep the fixes intact. 1.14 is a disaster and i find myself using 1.13.4.59748 on a regular basis to fix things that are borked with 1.14
Just keep plugging away, soon this will all be behind us, and i second #6 Fluf’s request for a return to the FL client software testing policy. I really feel you were on the right track with that idea. AS far as the voice issue is concerned, BAAAAHHHHHHH the only logical reason I can see for that is to satisfy the big Corps that want to take over SL in order to make it an extension of RL if it does go live i hope you will add voice cloaking and the ability to download various voice patch’s
Best of luck to all you hard working people at LL

Hooray! I get another week! Thank you!

Uhm - can’t rez my buildings since friday - and got a female avatar-shape since then… any ideas what’s goin on???
April 10th, 2007 at 8:00 AM
#18 The ATI problem was fixed on March 26th when ATI issued a new video driver update. Please go to ATI support, download, and install the newest update and you SL should be fine with Vista.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:12 AM
Off Topic: LL Lindex still faulty! bought lindens yesterday today its not lettin me and it AINT ME!!
On Topic:
Well then they have more time to work on the update making it even better right?
April 10th, 2007 at 8:12 AM
Be nice if we got some update on the LindX exchange not working and some kind of eta on when it might? can’t buy or sell $L
April 10th, 2007 at 8:14 AM
Eagerly awaiting a new client. The current client only runs about 5 minutes before it balls up and locks up my entire system.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:00 AM
you are finally holding back an update WOOOHOOOO now if you take this time to properly fix the big issues, you know like being able to move without TONS of lag, being able to tp without being booted off, being able to see chat without tons of lag, being able to access all inventory all the time. fix those things THEN come out with an update and you will have happy clients and complaint free blogs and a game that works like it should.
thanx for not updating yet, hope the other stuff works out for yas
April 10th, 2007 at 11:44 AM
@20 - the XML-RPC problem resulted from an issue associated with replacing a server. It was fixed this morning.
April 10th, 2007 at 11:45 AM
I hope you will be spending this time to fix the billing system which you have made utterly unuseable. Why does PayPal show a valid, active agreement but your system still says I need to pay tier? Was it really necessary to upgrade the hardware of the one system that worked? Incredible!
April 10th, 2007 at 12:28 PM
Why oh why does it take HOURS if not DAYS for a blog entry to appear about a situation that everybody is screaming about for days?
Why is it that the last place on earth to have any information about the current issues in Second Life is…. Second Life?
Why is that? I would love to be given a rational *reason* by Labs.
“Proactive” - look it up - something to aspire to.
I do believe that Linden Labs has succeeded in one thing, that is to create a new psychological condition “Second Life Rage”.
In the meanwhile, I will go and look at my plot that I cant use still after multiple support emails with no replies.
April 10th, 2007 at 1:03 PM
@31 cnyreject codesmith - yeah except the ATI Radeom X600 Pro cards in Macs, no updates for those, they are considered OEM cards.
Well this is good news, as not only is 1.14 buggy, and slower for me, and crashes, it is not correctly drawing gammas or colours, and that needs to be fixed or else clothing designers, artists and photographers are going to have a big time problem.
But really, I couldn’t care less about voice or any new features, what I want is what we’ve got but working: tps, inv, money, colours, invisible avs, the group bug with that, the inv folders staying open after a while, the memory leak on Mac clients, the writing of temp files that are never cleaned up….
April 10th, 2007 at 1:26 PM
Version 1.14 doesn’t work for a lot of people, so I agree that it’s a more than wise decision
:)
Thank you for restoring the confidence !
April 10th, 2007 at 1:57 PM
i think they need to go down tomorrow to fix SL as it has been having money probs and TP probs c`mon lindens fix it
April 10th, 2007 at 2:01 PM
hmmmm linden lab told us they think in the future billion of avatars are online @ the same time.
my answer: LOL
linden lab can not handle 35000 *g*
dream dream dream lindenlab.
and i have a dream to.
i dram a profi will come and buy linden lab to make it the right way.
April 10th, 2007 at 2:09 PM
why is it that support dosent reply, its been 10 days since i emailed them… grrr
and as for sl at the moment its pretty much useless all u can do is stand there and u can barely even chat properly coz of the lag , tps causing crashes almost every sim i been in is crashing within 30 mins of being there no money is showing and when it does its not the correct amount failing to rez attach objects the list is endless and is the same problems since day one i join sl, i do wonder wat actually u focus on fixing with the new updates would be nice if u are are focusing on the current issues everyone has problems with, dont get me wrong had a string of a few days with no probs but there becoming a rarerity now
and i and im sure most others are becoming tired of it grrr *sighs*
April 10th, 2007 at 2:16 PM
Asset server is failing very frequently, when saving items!
But yeah, way to go Lindens, good job on closing comment on the bug blog post on top of the page
April 10th, 2007 at 2:36 PM
It’s worth pointing out that Radeon X740XL cards, which used to work fine with SL, now cause it to crash every 20 mins or so. Even with the very latest drivers. One giant leap for compatibility…
April 10th, 2007 at 4:49 PM
do I detect a hint of animosity and discontent that Linden is failing to address. It’s now 4 days since I started attempting to upgrade my account..and still get dumm error messages saying there was a problem.
Still the Human resources and PR spin boys obviously taking the say nothing stance until it is fixed and then they will acknowledge that there was a problem… not a second before…let us know what’s going on please
April 12th, 2007 at 4:05 AM
Well,.. good decission to not update instead of doin it like the last time and just causing more damn problems!!!
There are still too many unsolved problems and ya last update was just a horrible backstep for all of us.
April 12th, 2007 at 7:15 PM
New Update = CRASH Was very embarrassing to bring a new citizen to SL and crash intermittently when chatting, teleport, or just standing around. This has only happened to me since the last UPDATE. I am very disappointed and my friend told me to let them know when the issues are resolved. This was a bad introduction to SL when it has been such a pleasant experience before. PLEASE FIX THIS.
