[Update, April 5, 12:04pm PDT] As we perform hardware upgrades, some residents will also encounter some lag between the time they input their payment data and the time it will be live and available for use. Currently, delays are as long as 30-minutes. We anticipate the lag do reduce to the 2-3 minute range by Friday. While we do not anticipate a need for residents to re-input the payment data, if it is not showing as available for use by Friday, it may be necessary to do so.
[Update: April 4, 9:17pm SL Time] Necessary changes made today to the billing processing system are continuing tomorrow and include hardware updates. Currently, delays can be expected with payment processing, most specifically with those who are required to update payment information. Please wait at least a half hour when updating Credit Card information, before using the Land Store, LindeX or Registration.

We are experiencing slowdowns on our web-based billing and account information applications. You may experience slow response times when attempting to change your account or payment information.
There are also problems with the Land Store we are investigating. Our web team is hard at work addressing these issues. I will post an update here as soon as we have a fix. Thanks for your continued patience.

True, but in this case I rather think it does! As Astryd Moore @4 says, currency transactions are failing, payment methods aren’t being recognised, security errors are popping up and attempts to reset payment methods OR access data are timing out…
Oh, and I do this for a living - and I know damn well if *I* screwed up a transaction system this badly I’d be down one customer instantly, AND facing claims for lost business - what sort of world do these people live in?

I can’t even do your step-by-step assistance for Pay the premium account via PayPal. There is only the form for filling out credit card stuff and billing address. If i leave the cc stuff empty, an error appears, if i click the button, so i did it again and clicked the PayPal-button below the form, now there only two buttons, and the credit card form is gone, and take the address form with it. If i click the “Delete & Update…” button nothing happens. And if i try to upgrade my account, i still get an error.
Its simple: If i can’t upgrade my account to premium, i just don’t do it.

Apparently land buying is offline as well.. I have the lindens and tier to make the purchase however I’m getting the message “There has been an error…” *surprised gasp* “… please check the status page for an update” I assume being unable to pull up billing details on a verified account also prevents land purchase… add it to the list please.

Concur with Franky - land buying appears to be offline. This is probably linked to the problem that this post is about.

Nothing is perfect. Be glad that Linden takes the time to have this sort of world that we can all share and experience. They work hard to keep things going, and people that complain about it should understand they are people just like you and me. They make a living of keeping SL open and running, and at times, “things” happen. It’s just part of it. Learn to live with it and go on. There are MORE important things in this life then whether or not SL isn’t operating right this very second.
Keep up the great work Linden. I know you are working as hard and as fast as you can to get things fixed or better. I fully understand how things can get at times. Thank you for making SL possible!

Problems with land sales are inconsistent. I’ve been trying to buy a piece of land for an hour but only experienced errors. Then someone else came along and bought it. When I told them about the problem, they kindly agreed to keep the price the same so I can buy it. However, I still cannot buy this land, even after re-logging. I cannot bid on any auctions either.
In the interest of fairness, SL should suspend ALL land sales and auctions until this problem is fixed.

#5: Perhaps I will consider your suggestion once my quarterly subscription is up for renewal. Until then, I will voice my opinion even if it makes you unhappy. Billing and account issues are not trivial matters. I’ve had plenty of good things to say about SL and LL in the past, and I will continue to express my amazement at the things I see in-game on a daily basis. But as someone who was victimized by credit card fraud in the past, I will ‘whine’ when I see fit.

ARG NO ONE CAN BUY ANYTHING IN MY STORES - ANOTHER LOST DAY OF BUSINESS ITS ABOUT 2 DAYS PER WEEK ON AVEARGE THINGS ARE SO MESSED UP NO ONE CAN SHOP so my business only works in sl about 4-5 days per week the past few weeks. Can you please give us a few week break from maintanance and updates every week has killed my business
every week i now know i am gonna loose 2-3 days due to all of this stuff.
Please give us a break from weekly updates/maintance for awhile once a month would make sl much better not every week.
I am not the only business owner in sl who is so frusterated of loosing most of business a couple days per week

Everytime I have ever tried to use the land store its doesn’t work, Its getting so I just expect that nothing will work ever. Reminds me of friendster, remember them?, the users all fled as soon as there was an alternative because they couldn’t resolve the technical problems over and over.

Considering the Gaussian proportions of running such a network, and the all that we do here in SL and are capable of doing, I am surprised that problems like this don’t happen all the time or from region to region randomly. I have to say, as much complaining as I hear, I really have to hand it to Linden Labs for putting all this together so cohesively.
I run a business in SL and I understand the woes and annoyances that come up when people can’t buy a product, but you know, I counsel myself that the Lindens built this place for us to do this in and they know best how to maintain it and expand its functionality.
So I can’t login right now… but I will be able to soon I’m sure. Keep up the fine work Linden Labs… everyone has their off moments, but no more than anyone else.

It’s just Murphey’s Law running rampant. Things that worked before the maintenance might not work after. It just takes time for them to find out about it and find a solution. Cut them some slack. I’d say they’re doing a pretty good job getting and keeping SL where it is now.

You have more problems then you’ve mentioned. I logged out hoping to fix a “Can’t rez item but it’s gone from your inventory anyway” problem, and haven’t been able to login since. While I have been trying, logged in residents has dropped by about 2000.

I suggest money back based on the percentage of hours SL being down ! Why should I pay monthly land fee if I can’t use it ! Why should I pay everymonth (I am on anual) for SL if I can’t use it !
I understand that you need to do maintenance but would appreciate if SL could give back the money paid for nothing ! In the company I work my customers don’t pay if they don’t get the right service et the right product ! Please try to do something about it !

Well I really like the SL experience but this is extremely frustrating. I feel that if this is an oncoming issue every single Wednesday then maybe then need to plan an all day offline PERIOD! Instead of this crap about it won’t take long for this update or fix. That is a load of bologne and if there are that many issues then maybe they need to go back into beta testing rather then putting all of us into frustration. I am sure that all of the business owners on SL are ticked. Of course they are loosing business and so on. This is the one reason why I refuse to sell items in SL and I have looked into having a business that gives a service rather then losing money every month due to almost 16 hours of downtime for maintence and another 2 to 4 hours added each week trying to fix what they broke.

Yes, Once again folks, Linden Labs Maintenance seems to develope as many issues as updates! Since the maintenance not only are there billing issues but, rez issues, TP issues, crashing, etc etc etc.
Hey I got an idea! Instead of Linden Labs doing maintenance and upgrades…let the Linden Labs night time janitorial staff do them. I’m betting it would probably cause less problems.
I feel for everyone that like myself is trying to do business in SL. At times I think they want to prevent business from being conducted. But hey, thats just my two cents.

In the last 3 days, i sold my lands and downgraded my account to a basic user, and i only can say…. YAY!!

I have to admit, that I was pleased with how quickly things seemed to be working immediately after the maintenance work was completed. However, along with the others above, I am disappointed with the current login issues, as well as with the fact that Linden Labs doesn’t deem it necessary to advise those of us who are stuck outside of SL at the moment as to what the problem is, and when it might be fixed. I understand that there are problems with systems as complex as SL, and I don’t fault Linden Labs for that. However, I do fault them for failing to communicate with their customers in terms of what is going on with the system, and when it can be expected to be working with some semblance of normalcy. Lindens, please at least tell us when your system isn’t going to work, and is unusable. Thank you.

Why is every update and maintenance a prelude to the whole thing going pear shaped? Its says check the status but the status is strangely empty of real news. How about an answer from someone instead of the creepy hiding behind the server thing linden labs is so apt at doing. If in rl business something goes wrong or is late we have to inform the customer. From simple good manners never mind good business practice. Now I dont dare install teh update for fear of the crash routine it usually generates. We need real answers in real time NOW. SORT IT OUT!

Will this EVER EVER get better or will this still happen almost every day? Lindens are killing SL, ppl are VERY frustrated and loose money.

Maybe the easter bunny will reconsider and bring the lindens a nice new easter egg if they get it fixed quick
they could use the egg to feed the mice driving the treadmill powering the servers that are so obviously overworked and in need of maintenance. Seeing how they fail so regularly.
Doesnt give me much faith in the hardware supplier they have, who so gratuitously and obviously has inundated the grid with staff members carrying balloons saying “SUN MICROSYSTEMS” and “IBM” over the past few days.
Perhaps some actual update on why we are all unable to login
perhaps some feedback
perhaps some cleverer or less tired mice for the treadmill
who knows what the solutioo is
But rest assured
the continuing drama will bring joy and happiness to all of us who like writing nonsense in blogs

That just tells me that it is stupid for us to pay apparently,,,we arent getting what we pay for , yet fee accounts can get online,,truth in that post before you blast me for saying that,,My RL GF doesnt pay,,and she has been online for 20 minutes,,yet I still cannot log in,,,so therefore,,I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!

I guess LL has closed shop for the day and gone home. But, on the bright side, they do appreciate our CONTINUED patience. Oh, I see you over there - hiding in the corner - whimpering… not knowing what to do… for starters you do a blog entry to let people know what the problem is and an ETA for re-opening. Then you might try getting yer boss on the phone and saying “we have a problem”. Hiding isn’t gonna do a dern thing ya know.

I say get rid of the seriously inactive accounts - they’re just wasting space. Anyone dedicated to the game should be able to play as long as they’re contributing in a positive way.

YUP agreed with previous post (David121) I have 2 Av… one pys the other is a freeloader…. The payee is not able to access while the freeloader is having fun inside… So. please do not question feedback, question the service which is what is going to help in improving the service for now it sucks…

i`m still online in 1 of the few corking regions and can say that the only working is chat and building
most regions show as offline and only 2 connecting regions appear to be working

Now why would they want to do that,,,wouldnt that inherintly show that the overinflated “CURRENT USERS” is nothing more than a lie to boast how “GOOD” the system is? Seriously,,considering that on average, 34000 users are logged on at once,,but according to them, there are over 5 mil users,,,nice attempt to use people who log in 1 time and see how it sucks 80% of the time to make the system look good to corporate america to try and get them sucked in to get more money.

Can’t log in right but I take it Linden Labs knows this already. Yes, you get what you pay for, but I’ve never paid for a service that had so many downtimes for maintenance on regular days. But one downtime a week is a small price to pay for 6 days a week of up time on the best game out there (in my opinion). I’d pay $60 USD if this was on the PS3 and allowed what it does on the PC:).

1) Plan on this every Wednesday.
Go read the SL tips on reducing lag. Many of the causes you can fix yourself.
2) The employees live in California. This is when they work.
3) I hear the majority of users is in Europe, where are the majority of PAYING users? (yeah, LL is a business)
4) Not all countries push credit cards like the US, so a lot of the world would be excluded if this was totally a pay-to-play system.
5) SL is vastly more complex then WoW or any other online games because all the servers are interlinked, the content is user-created and it is all stored centrally. (compare the sl program download to the HUGE WoW one)
6) Not all US users work during the day, so don’t assume we don’t mind this time for SL being off.
7) Clean out your inventory and empty your trash! You lag yourself every time ya download the same 4000 freebies at each login!!
9) Don’t assume everyone has the trouble you do. I have been on for 6 months, and I rarely have the problems I hear people go on about. Most of them seem to be due to the activities they choose, such as making items with lots of prims, creating complex scripts or wearing tons and tons of prims on their avatar.
10) Run your computer maintenance Wednesdays. Update, defrag, scan for viruses… doing these things will probably help your SL experience a LOT!

Whenever I try to log in I get a message that says “Login Failed. Your account has been disabled. Please go to http://www.secondlife.com and renew your membership.” And the My Account page is broke too so I can’t renew my membership…whatever the heck that means. Is this related to these billing things, or am I screwed up for another reason?

The infamous “Despite our best efforts..” message. From the amount of comments on her can’t ya feel the love Lindens?
And it only took me 5 minutes of hanging login screen to get that message. I’m extremely happy that the grids online. The glowing green grid status just gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Just a note for future maintenance. When you do maintenance on servers or networks..It doesn’t mean opening the case and hosing it down with soap and water.
Also, another note..even though LL is a privately held company. It’s always a good idea to take some of those millions youre earning and reinvesting in the business infrastructure. Just from a business perspective that’s a fine idea. as opposed to syphoning off all the money you make from premium accounts. It makes me wonder where all those investor funds are going.
Lets look at some numbers from the Linden Labs website…
3.3 million registered users
Adding 230,000 users per week
Average SL users spend $50-$60 US dollars a week on in world purchases
So lets say only half of those 3.3 million are paid accounts and only half of those spend the average. So on average the SL down time would be costing independant businesses around $327,000 per hour.
hmmmm and those 1.2 million paid accounts are bringing in how much revenue for Linden labs. Not to mention the recent capital investment of 19 million from Globespan Capital Partners.
For some reason I think the “Despite our best efforts…” message is an oxymoron..for the amount of revenue thats flowing into Linden Labs you would think they might put a little more effort into …our best efforts.
But once again…I’m just a little business person trying to earm a buck. What do I know. BTW. These numbers above come directly from a press release link posted on the LL website.

Technical issues regarding monetary exchanges and no land sales allowed to be made, while a fact of life, are nonetheless something that could be moderated. Businesses losing money, and for those trying to sell land this can really hurt those whose tier payment come due and they are stuck with land that would have otherwise been sold. While I do understand the technical difficulties that can arise, it would certainly be a positive gesture and message to the loyal customers of SL for all of those who are losing money in business ventures to be compensated in some way. Sure, adjusting billing dates to give some tier leeway would be a pain to do, but consider the goodwill it would generate among those who spend a lot of money in world - just a thought……

i have never ever experience such horrible customer service or support LINDENS DO U EVER LISTEN TO YOU CUSTOMERS… THE PAYING ONES ……YOU KNOW THE ONES WHO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A NICE FAT PAYCHECK EVERY WEEK?????????? HOW ABOUT BETTER LIVE HELP ON WEEKEND!! Sunday was the worst day i ever experienced on this game I run a business and i contacted live help about so many issues on sunday my Customers not recieving the items they purchased i filed bug reports, called live help several times and no answer all day i asked them to post message in world for residents not to rez items cus they were losing them i have 30 to 40 customers lose items that day and NOT ONE POST ON THIS USELESS BLOG FROM ANY LINDEN TELLING WHAT THE ISSUE WAS it was like they didnt even care well i know they dont care but my god you may as well remove this flipping blog cus all it is is a bitch session for non Pay Vs Pay member not any help or useless information on it when needed I pay more than 200 US dollars a month i pay a sim tier and my account not to mention the 1000s of L in upload charges ect in game trying to run a business with lack of any support from the people i pay to work there its time to take my business back to ebay or a normal web page at least there u get support and people who care and want your business TIME FOR EVERYONE TO PACK IT IN HERE CUS THE CRAPS JUST GETTING DEEPER BY THE DAY!

I totally agree. I haven’t had many problems as my friends do. Besides a little lag here and there, but its expected when so many users are online so that doesn’t bother me much. I’m just having problems with updating my payment. well, Hope this is fixed soon. Other then that keep up the good work LL.

hi all
wtf is going on with sl this time
its online for 2 years now and it still only laggy and slow and lot of paying problems?
what the linden crew do -only say have patience and again and again and again.
i am glad i dont started a shop yet because sl will steel your money, and they dont give a sh*t.
i know its a free program but there s a lot of money in it around
so linden crew/group try to keep sl normal playable pleaseeeeeee!!!
i sitting on chair and dont get my money for 4 times .
thats 104lds and payed first 10 so its 144 lds where i sitting for in 4 hours
so lost my time by earning nothing and lost 4×10=40 to pay chair.
SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR GO DO ANOTHER JOB IF YOU CANT LET IT BE NORMAL PLAYABLE!
the more a inline game like sl update the more it sucks.
they get rid of one problem and came back with 4 problems from year ago?

Ok I been playing for almost 3 years there were never problems til 1 year later you guys have been nothin but updating every week I have been loosing business cause of it now that I dont have a store{cause someone never informed me they were gonna sale the sim and tear our shops down}I dont have noone to buy my stuff……It dont matter to me now but I been loosing money and I mean alot of money cause of these updates I log on with a correct amout then when I log out and back in after the update my money is gone I mean 1k or more :O PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE only update 1 a month it will help it fix the problem then dont touch it til next month lol

The inability to buy lindens is making it difficult. We fund over 200 classes per month on Thomson island. Since LL has stopped paying instructors, we have started. Due to the sheer volume of students, over 7,000 in March, we need to purchase Lindens to pay the instructors. Without the ability to pay the instructors, this vital training that helps build the community may end. That is sad as the model is being applied to other locations as a viable method of creating real traffic, and not just camper zombies. Please make buying lindens one of your top priorities. After all, it is pretty much a loan to LL, at 3% reverse interest.

Slow response time? More or less no response and an inability to purchase money period. On an account that has information, I was given an error that it had none.
Something small like when we had to log in and out, or do $L1 transfers to get money that was purchased, I can tolerate.
But being unable to get in game money at all, when you have rent due and a wedding to pay for….no. Especially not for close to two days and with no real estimate on when it will be fixed.
