[Resolved] Network issues affecting logins and in-world activity

We are experiencing intermittent issues with logins, offline regions and other in-world activity. Our network engineers are addressing these now. Please stay tuned as we work to fix these problems. I will post an update here as soon as it becomes available.

Reminds me of my time we all thought we had a wonderful unix admin, could fix anything and then he decided to leave. We were thinking how we were gonna replace them. When he left nothing really went wrong.

Maybe the easter bunny will reconsider and bring the lindens a nice new easter egg if they get it fixed quick
they could use the egg to feed the mice driving the treadmill powering the servers that are so obviously overworked and in need of maintenance. Seeing how they fail so regularly.
Doesnt give me much faith in the hardware supplier they have, who so gratuitously and obviously has inundated the grid with staff members carrying balloons saying “SUN MICROSYSTEMS” and “IBM” over the past few days.
Perhaps some actual update on why we are all unable to login
perhaps some feedback
perhaps some cleverer or less tired mice for the treadmill
who knows what the solutioo is
But rest assured
the continuing drama will bring joy and happiness to all of us who like writing nonsense in blogs

Hi Jesse, I don’t want to appear rude in saying this, but I know for a fact that numerous people agree with me in this view, does Linden Labs plan on getting Secondlife running smoothly anytime within the near future, or will they just keep adding great tools for us to use IF we can login and stay logged in, I am not being smart about this, it’s a serious question that many many people have asked me, and I too would like to know, Regards Ray

Yes, Can’t buy anything. Can’t hand any objects over either via direct drop or profile drop. Thanks for letting us know that it is a problem rather than normal, albeit extended lag.

I just lost 10 L$ because of this. OMG 10 L$!!! I really don’t care about 10 L$ but I was just testing a roulette table thet I wanted to purchase. I now changed my mind. How can I convince people to play on my tables if they can losse bigger bets in an outage? Where will my customers complain? Oh no, i’m not gonna answer those calls.

I’ve been around about a good half a year now…. why is it after EVERY single update all the same kinds of problems pop up again and again? And since they’re always the same issues, why not try to address them first, then try updating with more junk we don’t really need?

SL is a great technical achievement. I’d love to see the day that comes where the grid is stable, weekly monthly is 99.998%, and all database maintenance is done on parallel systems to ensure no planned downtime.
It shouldn’t be so hard do achieve that!

Yes…just happened to me here in Brasil 15 min ago…I was logged in, then i made a teleport home…so i got frozen…when i logged out and try to log in again…no possible !!!!! I live in Arietta in SL.

Wel… My internet provider refunds my account when I am unable to log in. My cable TV provider refunds my account when I am unable to receive TV. My pizza is delivered free when It comes late. My laundry service does not charge me when they cant whash mor clean my cloths…. I guess Linden should start looking for some customer satisfaction index more seriously and considere being successfull…In the interest of all of us…becuase it is the only way to ensure that Long Term is a ealistic goal

So what I want to know is how you get the drugs from my computer into my body without me knowing? Because I’ll be damned if I don’t have the strongest urge to never again touch SL right now, which is battling with an overwhelmin NEED to login and tool my virtual butt around the digiverse and build something cool.
Do you think you could come out with like an OFFLINE version of SL, where you connect to your localhost and build stuff and play around, and then when you’re done playing with yourself you can connect and upload your creations(for $L10 of course, I’m sure)?
I would pay $10 a month for the ability to use SL without having to deal with your obvious incompetence at using network technology. I know, maybe I can just write my OWN SL server programs, and run it on my computer? Oh that’s right, I would, but I’m too busy BANGING MY HEAD against a wall because I can’t login to check the status of several projects I am working on. (and I probably couldn’t do it if I tried)

eeek. the customers are very unhappy. prospective customers can’t peek inside. and they’re threatening to withhold easter eggs!! this is serious.
i think LL are aware of the impact all this is having. i would doubt they’re terribly pleased either. i’m addicted to SL, i’m disappointed in LL, but all i can say is, it’ll be over sooner than later. they’ll fix it. we’ll be happy. it’ll break again, they’ll fix it again, and we’ll rejoice again.
my thoughts go out to landowners n’ business owners n’ people who generate an economic dot. i hope you all get compensated somehow.

1) Plan on this every Wednesday.
Go read the SL tips on reducing lag. Many of the causes you can fix yourself.
2) The employees live in California. This is when they work.
3) I hear the majority of users is in Europe, where are the majority of PAYING users? (yeah, LL is a business)
4) Not all countries push credit cards like the US, so a lot of the world would be excluded if this was totally a pay-to-play system.
5) SL is vastly more complex then WoW or any other online games because all the servers are interlinked, the content is user-created and it is all stored centrally. (compare the sl program download to the HUGE WoW one)
6) Not all US users work during the day, so don’t assume we don’t mind this time for SL being off.
7) Clean out your inventory and empty your trash! You lag yourself every time ya download the same 4000 freebies at each login!!
9) Don’t assume everyone has the trouble you do. I have been on for 6 months, and I rarely have the problems I hear people go on about. Most of them seem to be due to the activities they choose, such as making items with lots of prims, creating complex scripts or wearing tons and tons of prims on their avatar.
10) Run your computer maintenance Wednesdays. Update, defrag, scan for viruses… doing these things will probably help your SL experience a LOT!

Ok, so after 20 tries I got in world. What do I get for my effort? I have an empty account, I am a hairy chick wearing clothes that are 1/2 there, I have empty sockets for eyes and no inventory. Maps don’t display and no TP’s. I’m beginning to think “maintenance” means something entirely different at LL.

@21 Samuel Geiger - well, I’ve been on just over six months, and I’ll have to take ussue with you there Samuel, not every update is worse, there was ONE that was better for me (and other Mac users), but they rolled that back out a week later lol.
Still, one week of good, smooth performance and almost zilch crashes out of 28 can’t be bad, right? /sarcasm
Of course it also goes to show it doesn’t really matter what your hardware is, it’s much more to do with the Lindens messing with the client and server sofware…

We moan and groan, we think about quitting sl, we wait, they fix it for a bit, we login, we are happy, we lag, we moan and groan, we crash, we try and login, we think about quitting sl, we type in the blog, we try and login, we wonder what is actually being done, we moan and groan, we try and login, we read the blog, we think about quitting, we try and login, they fix it we login, we have fun we wonder why we would ever quit, we lag, we moan and groan, they update us…..the cycle starts again………….wait which is more pathetic, that the lindens can’t fix things or that none of us ever quit so they are forced to improve things?????? let us ponder this as we try and login again…………….

yeah when i login it goes up to the connecting to region and then its stops and it wont move it was doing it to me yesterday. i hope it gets fixed:) thanks guys for all your work
