Hello I sent a bug report not sure if any gets done about them but this is far to much to be understanding about. I can handle a missing shirt, a missing boot or pair of pants even the pool house that vanished. Well the pool house did make me a little mad but this my yacht and furniture inside half missing? Sorry I cannot be understanding about this and say oh well SL has bugs. If SL did it if not then I consider this a personal attack against me and who ever did this had better not even fly close to my property.

lol another person with missing inventory, due to lack of support from LL i am forced to quit buying stuff its a joke… just lost 25k poker table other day im hoping the supplier will give me another copy as LL dont seem to help in this area when really its a bug in the system which i wish they wud fix instead of telling me to relog and clear cache everytime????? jeez

A security orb with a limited scan radius, about 10 meters, and a time delay with warning of around 15 seconds will cover most houses and their contents quite well while still allowing people in vehicles to fly overhead without incident.
Also, there are several visitor list makers that might help you identify the culprit if indeed someone is messing with your stuff. Someone I know has figured out how to get into parcel’s he’s been banned from, sadly he knows little about LSL and can’t explain why it works, apparently though he can’t fool the security devices.

I own the house and land and have a security orb but any one wearing the personal security hud made by the manufacturer of the orb cant be bothered by it. just turned on all the fences and added my neighbors to the list so they dont have to see the fence. just layed out another boat and while on it a person flew over and a piece of deck vanished. how do i find out who is doing this? i mind my own business out here and dont need this.

Good luck with the maintenance… overall things seem to be better than they were a few weeks ago, and there is a far higher concurrence.
however.. still suffering from regular shoe buggery, and still crashing on tp almost every time. High packet loss, high lag spikes, and my view freezes every few minutes so i cant move or do anything… keep thinking i have crashed even when i havent. constant refrain from myself and others “am i still here?”
I too will be working on Avimator and Photoshop while the downtime is running. Hope it goes well. One of these days I will hear someone use the word ‘upgrade’ without inverted commas around it.
Its so great to be at the cutting edge…

I’m glad we’re not forced to use the new viewer after this update as I hate it! Its too dang buggy and as it is I’m already having enough problems with my island I don’t wanna worry again yet about that dang viewer being forced on me to give me more problems.

If you have someone flying over your property and parts of your boat are disappearing, it isn’t someone deleting your stuff. It sounds like a rendering problem actually.. Have someone watch your stuff with you if it happens frequently, see if both of you see stuff dissapear.
If someone doesn’t have rights on your land, they can’t do anything to your objects, unless they have rights to those objects.
As for Security Orbs, I don’t have/use them. Never saw reason to. You can not keep people from looking around your property. People can’t “take” your stuff. Its all based on the permissions folks. Unless a given agent has permission to Take / Return / Delete a given object, it can not be done. If it /is/ being done, it is an EXPLOIT and will be handled as such by LL as soon as it is reported. (Simply saying that “There is an exploit which lets people delete my stuff” does not make it so either folks.)
So, if someone, anyone, does something with your property that they should not be able to do, first check permissions on the object, land, and person.

As of 02:43:49 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2007 it is still telling me that I need to wait 5 min. before I can log on.
In order to clear the cache I have to be logged on. I can’t do it from the start screen. Seems like a little bit of a design error there. Unless it is operator error and I am not seeing a way to clear the cache from the start up screen.

Ok, I cleared the cache on my computer from the directory the stuff was in… clearned it all out. Restarted the computer … attempted to log on and was told to wait 5min. because I was being logged off… try again in 5min. This has been going on for over a half hour.
I am in the same time zone as the Linden Labs… I am in Calif. USA… the clock on the blog is one hour off. It is one hour too slow.
Sent an email to the help request… shrug. See what happens.

I hope they actually resolve some issues this time. I find myself saying that every week. We want fixes. Yeah, the pretty splash screen letting us know if its daytime or nighttime depending on the picture is neat, and the new cutesy little quips I saw while teleporting over the weekend was amusing. But they are not mandatory and I would choose resolution to real problems in exchange for the “fluff”
In re: Lost Inventory.
LL states pretty basically and clearly when we sign up and log in that we accept this program “as is” with no guarantee and no warranty to how it or the contents functions and will not be held liable for losses blah blah blah.
We spend good money. Money = Lindens = Money. We have every right to expect that the things we buy to be where we put them. Whether on land, in the air, or in our inventory.
That into consideration, LL and the SL economy relies on the Lindex, which relies on real world money. It’s what makes this virtual world go ’round. It becomes impossible for business owners to keep up with requests to replace purchased and lost items. And it is quick becoming impossible for anyone to risk spending money on items that stand a fair chance at becoming MIA.
It is my opinion that the only thing that will make their stance change and protect its citizens against loss like this, is for the lindex to crash.

I’m having issues typing myself. Sometimes, when I type, it wont show it for several minutes, and by then what it shows is all out of order.
SL is become less and less fun. I find it quite irritating now. It wasn’t long ago that the viewer was tremendously better and suddenly that vanished with the advent of the upgraded viewers.

Yes, Karasaun, everyone around me looks gray for me too. I find I have to wait over 10 minutes before it gets any better, and that is only for the avi’s near me. I also cannot enjoy places with more than 4 or 5 ppl because the lag is so so so so bad. It wasn’t like this at all when I first came to SL in November. Then a replicating bug got into that account’s inventory and rendered that acct. more or less useless….so on to second acct. I don’t know whether to continue in SL or not, but I love my friends in SL and have spent lots of money.

I got this great idea… How about for once you have your little code cowboys work on something worth while. Instead of all the buttons, little sayings, and finding new and creative ways of live help to tell us its our fault. “clear cache, maybe its your graphics card, try teleporting to the mainland. etc etc” with those three sayings alone i could work for live help right now, and not have to have any knowledge whatso ever. I’ve had nothing but problems with items rezing, teleporting, disapearing inventory, and crashing. But. on the bright side we have funny little sayings for when we are stuck in a teleport. They are funny but point is, spend some time on things that need fixed. Not crap that doesn’t need to be added at this point. Man talk about doing things backwards.

I am having the same problem as MikeC Althouse. It has been like that from 2:26 pm PDT and now it is 4:18 PDT. Nice when you are in the middle of something. I was at Help Island when I reloged due to being Ruthed.

Ok after filing two exploit bug reports as well as my lady friend seeing this happen to and filing bug reports also which we were amused in a sick and sad way about the response.

Filing another bug report when a person who read the blogs for some odd reason that i do not see his name on any of the bordering property’s around me said and described one of the items that for some odd reason ended up in his lost and found folder along with the missing panels and deck of my yacht.
Thank goodness its a copy no transfer. then again guess it did transfer. Something to keep in mind when making a high dollar purchase make sure it is a copyable item so when it does vanish hopefully the other copy is still in your inventory.

Seems a faulty USB cable on my keyboard had been causing me a lot of grief.
It isnt always the software.
And it is near impossible to remain objective in the face of seemingly random issues.

great…now how about fixing the bug that is obviously in the division of land…and the level of your customer service
I purchased a parcel today..a 1024 for 12300 lindens and divided it for resale….I split it into two 512 parcels…and then went to put them both up for sale for 7150 each…I definitely had a green line down the center of my parcel…dividing it into two parcels…I put one up for sale for 7150, and the second that I clicked the confirmation for putting it up for sale…the green line disappeard…the parcels reverted into a single parcel of 1024 again, and a landbot swooped it in half a second A landbot run by Zor Zeddmore, of course both the bot and Zor ignore my request to make things right…so I am out 5150 lindens…and so I called the concierge support, to fix this obvious problem…
I got hold of Guy Linden, and he came to the parcel and did some sort of “examination” while I waited..then told me he could do NOTHING. There is obviously an undocumented bug in the system…I am hardly in the habit of buying land and selling it for much less than I buy it for…and I sure saw the green line on the parcel.
So…basically, the lindens are supporting the “right” of the landbots to rip us off, because of a bug in THEIR systems????…I want everyone to know…buy land at your own risk in this game…you have a better chance keeping your money if you just flush it…

I still am unabled to log in now the time is 17:36pm PDT and I have been having this problem since 14:22pm PDT. I have done the same as mr Althouse, cleaned the IE cache and rebooted several times. Still I get the response that the logout process is ongoing and I should try to relog in 5 minutes.
How do I work around this?
Bug reporting is impossible as I only know of it being done inworld.

Mike - you can click “preferences” from the log-in screen. In preferences, click “network” and there you will see the clear cache button. Don’t knwo if this willl help you or not, as I have found that clearing my cache does absolutely nothing as far as improvement of performance!

Try logging to another region MikeC… in preferences from the main screen before logging on, select the “general” tab, and then select “start location”
Set this to “” and then type the name of another region to log to. One that springs to mind is “Eros” or “Chieut”
That sometimes helps, as logging to another region tends to “nudge” things and the “login/logout” problem is side stepped.

That would stop the bots taking advantage of this bug

thats right gdon… correct info to give. MikeC do that Gdon says… then wait about 2-3 weeks for LL to reply and ask “did this get resolved” then reply back to them and say no… then wait another couple of weeks for them to reply. Maybe in a month or two you will get support from the techies.
Also do note that LL replied and said “sorry for the delay, going through a transitioning period.” you know it’s not like LL to state what we all already knew… for about 6 months now

try uninstalling SL and reinstalling it. While doing so go to your cache directory, and rename it to Secondlife_backup this way the new install will create a new cache. Not promising this will work but it’s worth a try.
ALso try the same with the first look viewer. hope this helps mate

About the dissapearing objects on your parcel.
There was a bug at one time where if you were at your prim limit, and someone came into your parcel and rezzed something that parts of your OWN prims would get returned instead of the person that was visitings prims.
Maybe that bug has returned? Are you at your prim limit? If so, have a friend come into your parcel and rez something and see what happens.
Also, returned objects will now sometimes not look like the object you expected to be returned in your lost and found. Multiple objects are frequently grouped togather as s ingle object with the name of probably the first object only. Like an entire house could be returned under the name “faucet” and you have no idea till you try to rez “Faucet” and an entire house including the faucet comes out.
So sometims it looks ike things dissapear when they might actually be in your lost and found after all :/

I had a similar problem with a bot recently, and had to suffer a lecture on how being angry made me a bad person - from the owner of the bot. I wasn’t just angry, I was completely fuming, and it took all my control not to jump through the computer screen and strangle the obsequious individual. I grit my teeth, took a deep breath and became as sweet as sugar - the irony was completely lost on the individual btw.
Outcome - I got my land back
But I agree, these bots shouldn’t be allowed - the business practices of those running them are questionable in the least, and have contributed to the land/price squeeze that now makes it almost impossible to do land purchases with any degree of certainty on Mainland.

people creating and/or using any unfair “bot” objects should be machine banned from SL period. All of the associated criminal’s assets be auctioned off to the legitimate SL community.
I mean *ALL* the assets belonging to the land speculators. All of the money everything. All assets period.
SL is garbage as long as the Lindens allow criminal activities.
And the slowly reducing usage of SL should be a clear indicator to the Lindens something has gone wrong.
In addition, *ALL* persons using SL for political purposes should be machine banned.
*AND*
if it keeps up, such as the French community, *ALL persons from *THAT* country should be removed from SL.
This is not your political playground. Go fester your garbage in your own territory. *WE*, the SL community, do not welcome you, the political parasites, here.

The fact is they have expanded the main land too fast! Too much land and the resulting inventory & Junks on those lands is way too much for the servers to handle. They need to take a pause, beef up the systems then expand the mainland gradually.
I don’t care how fast the number of islands (private sim) is growing, that’s a different issue. ( anyway for linden, that’s bulk of the MONEY, from oct2006 of 134280000 sqm to feb 295830000 sqm and more than 1000 island added just in march, you go figure how much money we are talking about. $1685 for 1 island and 295 monthly for tier!)
But it is mainland that most have the most number of people in and not forgetting junk inventory. So please separate the 2 by having different log in option. Instead of 1 login, allow us to log in to island or mainland. Then in in-world use Portal type of transfer from mainland to island and vice versa. Another one is portal to portal between each mainland continent.
Then i suggest a inventory bank for people on the mainland, free up to limit then charge beyond that. Limit the number on inventory an avatar can hold, beyond that he/she have to deposit into the bank. Auction bank space just like land auction. allow free market to decide the storage price. This will help to limit the burden on the SL infrastructure while ensuring that everyone can enjoy their time in SL. This will end the constant blicker about pay and non pay accounts.
Think about it Linden. I do hope to see the day whereby there is 50 millions residents and everything is zippy. You really need to have multiple portals if we need to grow to that size.

To say this game is the best is just wrong. I have now after the update lost 12k worth of stuff from my inventory and shit that I spent hours making.
have sent bug reports in and emailed support and no reply. th last email I sent to support 2 months ago took 3 weeks for a reply. Total BS the whole lot of you. its tantamount to FraudAnd the ironic thing is that at the bottom of where you enter the text to post here it says NEED HELP? PLEASE VISIT OUR SUPPORT PAGE…..

Talking about things being returned. In groups, if you allow someone to return NON-group items, it seems that they can now return group items as well. Just had several group items return (by accident) by a renter whos permission to do so is clearly not checked as enabled, but return NON-group was.
Also, as people do fill up their little 512s with full prim load, it is getting to be impossible to fly around at all. If you cross one of these, at any altitude, you get your vehicle returned and bounced into limbo.
Is there anything that can be done about this short of changing all the vehicles I have created into attachments.
This whole situation with fences and such is getting to be so bad that you can hardly explore half of sl any more.
Lindens - is there any way we can get a discussion going about the SL fences and such? It would be soooo nice if they worked more like the guardian bots, where you had say 30 seconds to pass through unless you were specifically banned. The privacy thing is such bogus RL thinking - can we talk about ways to make SL more open again?

I agreed up until the point where you morphed into a sort of xenophobic zealot mid-comment. Perhaps everyone from *YOUR* country should be banned because of your extremely discriminating attitude. Oh wait, Second Life is about embracing cultures and ideas, not completely alienating an entire country based on their political candidates.
*WE* the Second Life community shouldn’t welcome people like you into our ranks. I think you should go fester in your own garbage for a while before thinking you can speak for the entire community with such distasteful words like that again.

oh man crash crash crash! here we go! I knew this was going to happen! I said it last week and now crashing more then before. Are we going have a fix of the client? This script errors, and other borking of the servers along with this current client are not a good mix at all. High population islands are having a nightmare of a time.

To put some positive feedback in these blogs.
For me the new viewer works great.
Before the new viewer I had weekends where crashing 10 times a night we’re no exception.
Going to popular places like Phat Cats at saturday evening was just impossible
After this new viewer (and updating my graphics driver to the OpenGL version 2.0) it just works awsome for me.
Did the upgrade last friday, played all weekend and had my first crash only yesterday (so 4 days with no crash!!).
And was able to go to Phat Cat’s on saturday evening :-)))))
Keep up the good work LL, hated you guys after most of the previous upgrades but after this one I love you guys again

Just a note. I went back to 1.13.x yesterday, and haven’t had a crash since (1.14 crashed about once every 15 minutes on average).
Now there’s just this wierd bug (which was also in 1.14) which causes me to automatically log off whenever a TP fails (which, as we all know, is quite often). This bug’s here since a week or so.
But still, being kicked out of SL a few times an evening is better than every 15 minutes.
@63 (Ann Otoole): Can I have some of what you’re smoking? YOU are not WE, the SL community. If SL is garbage; why are you still here? If usage of SL is slowly reducing, how do you explain the ever increasing usage numbers? If you’re against political statements, why would you want to make the political statement of banning an entire country? Banning all french based on their nationality is discrimination, which is also a crime; let’s auction off all your assets, shall we? On second thought, what you’re smoking may be too heavy for me.

1. “scheduled maintenance operations” - no sim or viewer updates?
2. What kinda maintenance would that be? Defragmenting the harddrives?
3. Why do ppl use the blog comments to flame?
4. Why do ppl that hate SL that much keep playing it and reading the blog?
5. Off-topic: What is happening to the First Look project now that it’s code is now the regular viewer?

That is a VERY good question, Lyn. If I hated it as much as most of the people who post here do, I’d find another way to spend my time.
As it is, I rarely have huge issues that cause me to show my rear end in a public blog post when the topic was only “Hey, we’ll be down a bit tomorrow.”

1. no updates that would need a new viewer (no message template changes)
2. replacing flaky cables, rearranging routing tables, replacing overloaded switches, repairing cpu fans … there’s a lot of maintenance tasks that could come to mind, only a few of them actually concerning the data itself

5. I guess there will be a new FirstLook project as soon as someone in the Lab starts working on something new and exciting

I said the same thing #69 regarding time in another blog posting, but got shouted down by a cpl of residence.
It’s no longer GMT but BST which is now +8 of PDT (game time) which makes it 15.00 - 19.00
Our Clocks went forward one hour 25th March.

Good luck with the update, Hopefully it leads to a stable SL . hmm In the lasts months a few objects dissapear and never could be found again. But it could be a glitch in the system .
SL is stil great
With lag, lots of packetlosses bad Tp’s and crashes evere 30 minutes. But I’ll hope that Linden will fix that

What this happening with Sl? I made the two update and alone it got worse… I do not obtain to explore. I do not obtain to walk… system is well only when I am seated… and in the movement attempt always it gives crash… It has some solution for this? since already it thanked a reply and I thank attention

Selene (22) Im the same I hope we dont need to. I picked my computer up from shop yesterday £45 to get it fixed as the software for SL 1.14 caused massive problems. Its a brand new graphics card too but it dont seem to like the 1.14 version. Please if you read this before allowing it on here (linden labs) listen to us and dont make us use the new viewer, or I know for sure I will have to quit SL as I cant afford to keep paying for software repairs.

#61: That was almost exactly what happened to me- my whole freaking furniture came out of trying to rezz…a Moroccan teaglass. It wouldn’t rezz and said “parcel full” and I couldn’t believe it could be, like, a 40 prim teaglass…I try to avoid this now by returning one object at a time, not too hasty….
Almsot as much fun as having my glasses and bling nose piercing stuck in my nether region….

i have always played with my laptop for the past year it says that mine is not compatable but its wrong it is but the lag is horrible not even for me for other poeple too and SL crashes my graphics card. please fix this problem cause alot of people spend alot of money here and the game is getting worse and worse please make it enjoyable again for all of us

I find all the complaints from people and the cursing and insults incredibly amusing. If you hate SL so much then why are you still in it and why are you spamming the blog with your complaints instead of taking the proper avenues with them? If your expecting to get an answer within a few seconds its not likely to happen.

The solution is simple if you think LL is doing such a horrid job, go write your own veiwer, create a 3d world complete with its own programming language and integrated 3D modeling system along with streaming music, video and teh ability to transfer game based money into real USD. When you get done with that then you can have some ground to come back and tell LL how much they suck. Until then kindly enjoy the game like the rest of us.

temporal… i had the same problem with a land sale. afew times in fact…
auto land buying should not be allowed. i have lost what amounts to about 60$ us on land sales over the last two weeks. and i can NOT afford that.
so mebbe i should just hand the dude 60$us. and tattoo a sign to myself saying “thank you for screwing me over, have a great day!”

Hey Usagi, I just noticed your setups fairly similar to mine. We’re both on XP SP2, both have 2gigs ram, both on AMD processors (4400+ X2 with me)
Both 2.0.3 OpenGL and both on Nvidia 7000 series graphics cards (7600GS in my case)
1.14 doesn’t crash for me at all and runs way way better and smoother than 1.13. I really dont understand why the current client is awesome for me and hell for you. Doesn’t make sense!
Anyways, back to RL today I guess. bluuuurgh, suppose I could do house cleaning again

Yes I too have been experiencing lost inventory. I also have a store, and sold an item the other day, and did not recieve payment.. I always try to be patient, but it just seems that nothing is being fixed.. Instead of worrying about some rediculous voice chat feature that will surely be buggy and cause more problems then it’s worth, the issues at hand need to be dealt with.. The lindons need to step back, and address the actual problems.. I understand programming is not an exact science, and that one fix can cause more to surface.. But lets look at this from a paying customer standpoint.. I put alot of money into this game, because I do enjoy it, and want to continue to live my second life.. But I can only take so much of the lack of responsibility on the part of the Lindon’s, for not addressing these issues.. I am not dissing the Lindon’s by any means, I just hope that they work more to fix existing problems, and not so much on new features.. New features are always good, and should be implimented, in due time..
Lets hope that these issues get resolved soon.

Yea guys, me too. I didn’t lose as much as worth of items as some of you guys did, but whenever I try to put on a few of my expensive items, a error message appears saying that the database was unable to find it. It’s truly bull, and IM hoping they fix it. Also, a few days ago…I COULDNT TELEPORT ANYWHERE. Sl is starting to get on my nerves now…

At least the ppl pay for their fun, so…at that raising number of ppl that will come new the next months and years LindenLab better try to hurry up with their technical knowledge and resolve all heavy problems soon, k´heavy problems are for sure no good tp, crashes (all the time) etc.etc.etc… i love Second Life, but is has to be really a Second Life and not my 347th game i play…thanks Linden Lab for taking that, like all requests here for serious.

Stop being so cruel to LL they are trying there best, if you think you cant trust them for something then dont join.
