podcasts?
And if we don’t have iTunes? How about a simple audio stream?
Does that really “increase” communications?
April 2nd, 2007 at 10:18 PM
no it doesnt increase communicatuions but it does tell us they sold out to a company desperate to pedal it’s dying garbage.
apple and it’s attempts to control all digital rights is beginning the death spiral as such respected publications as Wired magazine point out the mass move away from Soviet style communism in products.
and nobody is planning on paying no 600 bucks for an apple phone anytime soon either rofl

…so I guess you’re realy Bill Gates “Ann”
April 2nd, 2007 at 10:25 PM
have i been suggesting sl run on an xbox? no. no i am not bill gates. but i do wish i had his money.
if i did… i would be a major shareholder in linden research rofl!
April 2nd, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Yes, Ann, you are sooo right! Apple is dying. For more than 20 years now, I just wish I had such a cool and rich and successfull death…
April 2nd, 2007 at 11:53 PM
You jokes are very lame LL….. It was better seeing the text as normal without the stupidness
April 3rd, 2007 at 1:30 AM
Jeska, please can you tell us where non-iTunes subscribers can download the podcasts from?
April 3rd, 2007 at 2:05 AM
Ann, I doubt it’s a conspiracy. I expect someone at Linden Lab was just looking for a distribution channel to use for podcasts, and chose iTunes.
Of course it’s not a distribution channel that reaches everybody, and so I’m sure they must be planning an alternative for non iTunes users — perhaps downloading the podcast from the SecondLife website? Hopefully Jeska or someone will post details here soon

Bill Gates only owns Microsoft stock now. Apple already has a large interest in this game as its their quicktime format that runs all videos in world. It was apple that created the digital music revolution we experienced. So then it should be no surprise that the company at the vanguard of that wave should be reaping so many benefits. And besides, Apple, Microsoft, and IBM all have islands in game. Heck anyone with private islands that knows about megaprims can thank IBM for those existing since LL won’t give us larger prims until they give us the havoc 2 physics engine.

Although it was a bastardisation of iPod, these days Podcast is a generic term, not specific to the iPod or iTunes. It refers instead to an MP3 stream that can be downloaded and played at your leisure, although it can also be listened to as a stream.
SL’s use of the term Podcast may not (and probably won’t) predicate a service only for the iPod, and if many of my friends who do podcasts are a guide it will be in standard MP3 format which means you can play it inside SL by setting your land media.
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:09 AM
do the video’s include the do’s and dont’s of messing with your inventory when 30k plus are in world at one time? Oh how bout the video that explains “how to get your hair out of your aras after tp” that would be a good one for newbies… better yet “how to smartly reboot your computer after it locks up while playing Second Life” now that is a must have and would be a hot video!
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:13 AM
podcast.. apple… hmmm lets see.. SL uses the crappy ram happy cpu happy Quicktime media player instead of a nice smooth running winamp or sam….. last i checked quicktime was owned by Apple.. i do see a connection here wow.
while we are on the subject of MessmycomputerupSOFT lets talk about SONY and their HOME 3d world
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:25 AM
Will, do you speak of the sony attempt to create a second life knock off but without the opportunity to create your own objects and keep the copyrights for such objects as your own?
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:41 AM
yes thats the one

The Market Statistics are Feb 06 - Aug 06…
not really up to date, eh ?
April 3rd, 2007 at 11:15 AM
As long as by ‘download from Itunes’, you mean ‘download from Itunes, or other sources which don’t require you to install software you don’t need’ that’s fine by me!
April 3rd, 2007 at 11:26 AM
Jayden’s correct, so non-iTunes users like myself don’t have to worry. All we need is the URL, if it’s going to change from what it is now.
April 3rd, 2007 at 8:40 PM
So…
We need to log into the “Forums” but not the blog and now we got spam-bots
April 3rd, 2007 at 8:43 PM
Ok, I did have “PodCast” tied directly to iTunes. expecially wince both were mentioend at he same time in the oarticle. But if they are freely available streams without needing to install yet another piece of software then thats great

what the hell is all that crap that NewYorkDJ is spouting..?
April 4th, 2007 at 12:56 AM
>> what the hell is all that crap that NewYorkDJ is spouting..?
My bet is SEO, adsense fiddling or encoded messages. I would guess the latter based on his posts from a few weeks back.
I bet he’s actually a terrorist using this forum to plot a terrible incident in a foreign country and he uses such code-speak to pass instructions to his croneys. I wonder if it’s every second letter. hmmmmm

Thanx for posting, Jeska!
Doing the newsletter is a lot of fun.
Ah crap spam! I nuked it, we’ve been bombarded with spam and Akismet anti-spam filter, while helpful, isn’t catching it all.
@Rex: I can access that right now, still no joy for you?
I long thought a “podcast” is just a fancy word for “An MP3 I’m supposed to listen to while on the go”. Hee. ^_^
@william: The Video Tutorials I made do show some of the bugs we encounter daily inworld and how to deal with them, yes! They’re pretty candid. Watch and see for yourself.
Oh and that “hair in butt” bug we’re still working on… I hate that one, it’s like “WHY THE HECK DOES MY ASS LOOK LIKE A HORSE’S?” Welllllll… seriously. Internally, it’s issue SL-29362 and we hope to have it resolved soon. I don’t have an ETA but I’m keeping a close eye on it, esp. since it transforms my SLoundwave avatar in hideous ways no Decepticon would wanna go!

Newsletters are fun to read.
April 4th, 2007 at 9:27 AM
Okies - I might be blind, but when I go to newsletter, I get the latest one of February 28 at http://secondlife.com/community/newsletter.php
When I hit Jeska’s link above, I get a 404…
http://secondlife.com/newsletter/2007_02/
Soooo, anywhere else I can see the newsletter? Again, I might be blind.
April 4th, 2007 at 10:49 AM
I don’t want a podcast — I hate listening to people prattle on about things I can read on-screen.
I don’t want an RSS feed — if it’s not in my inbox, I’m much more likely to miss it.
You know that adage about things that are not broken?
The emails weren’t broken.
DON’T FIX THEM.
wtb: my newsletter via email again.
April 4th, 2007 at 2:35 PM
@Gillian: I just refreshed http://secondlife.com/newsletter/2007_02/ , and like yourself, I now see a 404.
I reported it as issue SL-39942. Sorry about this, I’ll let Jeska and Blue know right now. The sub-page links still work for me, and of course you can read it inworld via the link Jeska provided above.
April 4th, 2007 at 3:31 PM
Thanks, Torley
When I am able to log-in after the network issues are in hand, I’m heading off to read it! TY TY
April 5th, 2007 at 12:59 AM
The newsletter web link goes to a file not found page.
April 5th, 2007 at 7:47 AM
@Victoria: Yes, as Gillian and others have reported above.
@Gillian: The link should be fixed shortly.
