‘Unable to Login’ issue resolved, some side effects may include…
Friday, March 30th, 2007 at 9:10 AM by: Jesse Linden[Update: 11:45 AM PDT] We believe the login issue has been resolved. You may experience a side effect whereby multiple duplicate folders show up in inventory. This will be resolved later today for anyone who experienced this problem prior to the login issue.
Another issue we are working on is that some avatars may show up as invisible upon login. If this happens, try the following:
1) Make sure the Debug menu is activated (ctrl-alt-shift-D)
2) Select clothing from the menu
3) Right click wear any item.
4) Logout, clear your cache (http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=32
and log back in.
This should resolve the issue. We will be deploying a more permanent backend fix for this over the next few days.
[Original Post] We apologize if you are getting the following login error: ‘Unable to complete transform: ‘copy inventory to new database’. We are currently investigating this issue. We don’t have an ETA for a fix at the moment but I will post an update here as soon as it becomes available. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

It seems as though it’s going through the letters of the alphabet, letting few, random people off with a break.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:14 AM
I have this problem, which appeared last night around 9PM (SL time). I have not been able to log in since. Clearing the cache did not work fo me.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:14 AM
I’m in now, thanks!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:18 AM
Hi, how do we clear the cache?
March 30th, 2007 at 9:19 AM
Still can’t login
March 30th, 2007 at 9:20 AM
I’m not, still broken, clearing cache no diff.
And i seriously want to slap the person on the in world help desk (signing in under my alt) that told me to downgrade to 1.13.
This has been affecting people that didn’t even try the new client!.
Plus 1.14 works brilliantly for me, double the frame rate, so no way in hell i’m downgrading when others have reported that doesn’t do zip to fix this problem.
Funny how they were able to manually fix it server end the first time this happened, that was still with the 1.14 client guys.
fix it your end please! ASAP!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:21 AM
I cant log into the Beta.
The Voice Beta.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:22 AM
I just want my avatar back…please!?!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:23 AM

March 30th, 2007 at 9:23 AM
I’m still not on!!!!!! And very unhappy!!!!!!!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:23 AM
This might help your investigation
however i installed 1.40.0 etc several times, after start up the program keeps asking that i shouls update aswell in first look as in normal SL
also following your suggestion to clean up the cache, doesnt help., in my case
i have cleanup my registry, my disks, my memory, nothing helps to come on line
hpoe this helps
kind regards Barry
March 30th, 2007 at 9:24 AM
Again,
Will we that could not do business or access secondlife get a refund or something?
I find that it is easy for Linden to kick us off or to do repairs without testing or QA the change before implementing it.
Come on - I paid a lot of money over £200 pounds and untill now have no seen any value off money
Thanks,
March 30th, 2007 at 9:25 AM
Please help SL I would so much like to come back sorry if I have done anything wrong but I DO NOT know what. ;-((((
March 30th, 2007 at 9:25 AM
How can I clear my cache if I can’t even LOG IN???
March 30th, 2007 at 9:25 AM
More that 48 hrs. with no login… can you say withdrawal!
Ouch! The most dissapointing thing for me is the amount of time it has taken for this issue to get the attention it deserves… I see people moaning over bump mapping… i just need to get in-world!
And for those of us with little or no technical savy its a scary place to be!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:26 AM
Great……have this problem again, some asked help for me hours ago and still nothing…..last time it only took 5 min for the help desk to get me in….wonder why.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:27 AM
I can’t log in either. This is the second time I have had the ‘copy to inventory to new database’ problem this week.
Clearing cache didn’t help me either.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:30 AM
Is it just me or are we seeing Avatars with ‘A’ names affected here… coincidence perhaps… but, my dear Lindens… I have been waiting for good news since that first post on the issue 2 days ago… where is my Linden Love?
Glad to see something happening… would be nice to have my Avatar back for the weekend… gots to get my party on! ~Nessa
March 30th, 2007 at 9:30 AM
Once more we get a blog message of a problem, infact it sounds like the same problem, with a promise to get back to us with updates. If you look further down the blog you will see several posts all with that promise unkept. When is LL going to keep its promises to us, if y ou can’t even keep a promise as simple as letting us know the status of a problem and its resolution how can we trust you in anything else you say?
And as to resolution, please look up the meaning of its root resolve before you go and claim a problem has been resolved. Everytime you use that word and it turns out you are wrong hurts your credibility.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:30 AM
It took 24 hours for it to be fixed for me last time. Got in yesterday. Now broken AGAIN.
One thing I’d like to say is that SOME of the online help people are great and make you feel like they’re doing their best. Others less so, and even if you’re polite. Saying ‘I’m sorry’ is nice. Saying ‘I don’t have the tools and I’m busy’ is NOT.
And if - as I was told - it’s being investigated on a case-by-case basis, do premium account holders get prefernce? Permit me a little doubt here.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:31 AM
Would you please get this message to the right people - there is NO WAY - no blog post, no forums, nothing, for me to get this message to you, and I am desperate, so PLEASE pass this on to the right people.
You have made it so mature things are automatically not included when people are looking in search. By default.
My land is in mature. I had no idea when I started buying this land a year and a half ago that this would eventually mean that everybody would automatically not be able to see it, unless they know to look at the mature checkbox and check it off.
There is also nothing I can do about it! I can’t change my land to PG, which I would in an instant! Somehow I am supposed to sell off my half sim land and then find another half sim in PG to buy.
This is all because of a CHECKBOX and the way you decided it would now work. My BUSINESS is suffering, which means my ability to pay you TIER, because of a simple checkbox.
Please get this message to whoever is responsible for these sorts of things that I had no idea that my business would become HIDDEN BY DEFAULT.
Tell them I want them to CHANGE THIS - turn it around back to where you have to UNCHECK it, and it is checked on by default - or else make it possible for me to change my half sim to PG! Deciding to hide my business is UNFAIR TO ME, and will eventually be unfair to you, because I won’t be able to pay you tier anymore.
Thank you,
coco
March 30th, 2007 at 9:31 AM
Been broken for me since yesterday. Was told in-world from my alt to email my broken AV name to them… Still waiting patiently.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:31 AM
Both your client and server software continue to be unstable yet you are allocating programming resources to add more features to this buggy code base.
I may not be the only paying customer who finds this troubling.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:32 AM
the forums are full of people with the same problem… cache clearing and new installation dose not help… i have the problem since yesterday and can not login… my inventory cant move to a faster database…so help us please to login soon..
thx
Bobby from Germany
March 30th, 2007 at 9:35 AM
#5 Coco… Stratics owns 8k of Rosieri, between us we own 2/3 of the region, plus several thousand sq m of Linden road.
The law of averages and fairness means that we should be able to get the whole region changed to PG, as we have a majority shareholding in that region.
It’s a pity Linden Lab don’t care.

March 30th, 2007 at 9:36 AM
Two days I encountred the same problem. Yesterday I was so happy to login. Today same shit all over again. This time it’s is fridaynight here my weekend is beginning. When you get the nottice ‘copy inventory to new database nothing of the tips helps. Hope you get the problem solved fast. Everything from the viewer works fine haven’t been chrashing only A LOT of login problems
March 30th, 2007 at 9:40 AM
3days now and Liden wont respond other than to tell me its fixed, i was also told to down grade by help person Ariel Otafuku and that didnt help, one person did get it running for 2 mins, very disapointing because many of us in SL make money and im getting emails for business but cant do anything about it because cant log in
OH SL blues once again
March 30th, 2007 at 9:42 AM
It works for me now.
I doesn’t do anything except waiting. Still with 1.14…
And thanks for your work to linden team…
March 30th, 2007 at 9:43 AM
I guess its too late to get the MATURE checkbox back to what it was. Even people with completely innocent stores (garden store in my case) on Mature Sims are treated like sex shops. Best solution - consider all of SL a Mature grid (isn’t that what it is? I mean there’s a teen grid for younger people) and eliminate any PG, R, or whatever arbitrary designations.
To stay on-topic, yes, they are investigating now the unable to login problems.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:46 AM
#8 Slartibartfast… I believe ‘coming soon’ is an extra level of land designation for places such as you, us and Coco that are “pleasant places that just happen to be on Mature land”, instead of lumping a community forum HQ and sandbox, a well known house designer’s showroom, and a garden centre in with the XXX stuff.
Quite when, however, is another question.

March 30th, 2007 at 9:50 AM
I’m getting unable to rez errors now. I’m in the plum sandbox. i’m still trying to rez but it don’t look good.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:53 AM

March 30th, 2007 at 9:57 AM
Super, !!
ohne Gruss, Manu
March 30th, 2007 at 9:58 AM
I can log in now. Thanks Lindens! Lots of off-topic comments in this thread …..
March 30th, 2007 at 10:02 AM
Suggestion… politely
Other companies - LiveJournal as an example - ‘apologize’ to their paid clients by extending their contract for a week or so if they’ve had major problems. Or by offering some sort of compensation.
I’d say that this - for those of us who can’t even log in because of the inventory transfer - is a major issue.
It’s not going to compensate for lost business, but it might soften the blow A LITTLE.
Just a thought. And I know you guys are trying to get us back up and running but the frustration is a killer when you’re trying to run an SL business.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:02 AM
still need help completeing registration and log in. name reserved, but keeps kicking back. three days now. pls assist. thx.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:04 AM
fuck you.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:05 AM
Clearing cache and downgrading to 1.13 does not make a difference. I have 5 computers all of which are able to run SL here. Only 2 of those machines have been upgraded to 1.14. My wife has 4 alts, and one of them is unable to login due to the ‘Unable to transform’ problem, and has been that way for 3 days now.
The problem occured BEFORE 1.14 was released. I have gone around to all of the machine and tried, with and without clearing the cache. I have been able to login every other character we have with no problem. It is just the one alt that is unable to login.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:07 AM
I have this problem (‘Unable to complete transform: ‘copy inventory to new database’) for 48 hours or more. I don´t login in Second life for 48 hours too, I clearing my cache more 5 times and i dont login
I´m neve login more
! Thanks a lot for help me! I stay patience :), but i cant pay my rents places and my rent stores and etc..
March 30th, 2007 at 10:08 AM
Furthermore, you said in an earlier message
COPY TO INVENTORY BROKEN, WHICH IS THE SAME PROBLEM,
you had a fix already made, which you promised to deploy later that morning, THAT WAS WEDNESDAY, NOW ITS FRIDAY, AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM, PLS DO SOMETHIG AND BE FRANK IN TELLING US WHAT REALLY THE TIMETABLE IS TO SOLVE THIS
AS EVER KIND REGARDS Barry
March 30th, 2007 at 10:13 AM
ITS A MIRACLE!! lol, i’m in
so glad i didn’t downgrade to 1.13
Thank you FINALLY!
..and please please please dont let this happen again, its happened twice now, plug that hole, so next time our logins do this little maintenance cycle, it doesn’t stall again stopping us from going in.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:17 AM
I wanna 1.13..becoz I couldnt log in with 14.0
14.0 doesnt work !
March 30th, 2007 at 10:22 AM

have been put back to the basic av “ruth”. can’t edit apperance, can’t take anythong out of the inventory, can’t wear anything, can’t wear a HUD device, client quits after about 2 min.
When I go back to an older version of the client my av is totally invisible and NEVER shows up. NOT even “ruth” shows up.
You guys have totally screwed up this thing.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Oh and blog updater, please give us this time a reason, and explanation of route cause of this issue thats happened on two occasions now. Or if you simply dont know, say you dont know!, but give us a best guess response?.
We like it when you keep us more informed, like you have with other stuff, hourly updates etc.
I feel really bad for those suffering with high lag on 1.14
1.14 is kick ass for me. packet loss at 2.1% right now
March 30th, 2007 at 10:52 AM
this being unable to log on hit me last night at 8 pm and still cant get on still get the unable to complete transform.notice
March 30th, 2007 at 10:54 AM
3h without an state update?
my login seems to work again
March 30th, 2007 at 11:00 AM
Just crashed again, can’t edit appearance, can’t load anything from inventory, can’t use help request, help request is broken, it does not respond. Still “Ruth-ed” … basic av. Client crashes after about 3 min.

I am in now too, and clearing my cache, which I tried numerous times did not help, even checked to make sure pointer to cache on my comptuers were correct. Very glad to be back on now. Thanks so much.

Hi All,
I got the same problem. I was not able to login since 2 hours. Now I got it working again. I had installed 1.14 version. I ma back on 1.13 and now i can login without any problems.

It is such a shame that the guys and gals at Linden appear not to be listening to the growing unrest and dissatisfaction of an ever increasing number of regular users. They seem hell-bent on just upgrading and adding new features almost every week, instead of putting it on hold and making the whole thing stable. It is getting worse day by day. If you look at the numbers…there is also a major point staring them in the face; when there was 1 million so-called members the online number was around 15k. Now with 5 million members (5-fold increase) the online numbers have only increased by a factor of three at best. Please listen Linden…….or I think you will see a lot of regular supporters leaving. I am seriously considering selling the three full sims i own and the 4 low-prim sims. The system is becoming unuseable……..try being out here and try using the system like we have to…..without the very latest pc or graphics card….. I cant get an upgrade driver for my Nvidia card…..and it was on the list you gave out……so….do I have to buy a new PC or card just because you dont care????

Can we do something about the upload problem? It’s probably related to this but isn’t mentioned here. Uploads fail with the message: “Unable to upload [KEY] for the following reason: The server is experiencing unexpected difficulties. Please try again later.” Between that and the lag I can’t get any work done at all.

Can someone fix the memory leak, please? I’m running SL only, and at times it takes 5 minutes to turn around.. not much fun.

thanks

Saving notecards which contain landmarks fail often when SL gets busy.
Again TPs are only working 2nd or third try.
Customers complain they have lost stuff again when rezzing it.
I am a patient person - but we “only” have about 33.000 users online at the moment and the assert serevrs seem to mess up again.
I appreciate the hard work you put in - and I am aware it’s not an easy task to maintain such a system, but you are professionals and you charge us for the service you provide - so we expect some professional support and not leave us vendors alone with all these problems …

makes me wonder if they don’t have a secret team out back in the woodshed working on a completely new platform for the servers while the client gets overhauled by the public…
That’s what LL should do, imho. Split the coders in half. One half would stay busy keeping this ’silicon & duct tape’ contraption working for another 6 months, put the other half in an intra-net isolated room (so they cant be playing any other games) pounding out a new system. This one plain sucks. WE know it, YOU know it but nobody at LL wants to acknowledge the fact that there ARE some people out here that realize it.
I know all the sayings about ‘reinventing the wheel’ but this wheel has been quite flat for a long time now. Maybe a little reinventing would make life more livable, as well as likable.
The way the Lab keeps pouring out new clients, it’s no wonder there havent been any real, honest public releases of the open source :-/

As the number of residents go up, the number of WHAHWHAHWHAHGRIDDOWNLINDENSUCKS people go up as well. The ones with the “I’m a paying customer!” attitude should read what they agreed to in the TOS.
Anyway,
This happens with most software, especially those developed by medium sized (eg 50-100 people) groups (Like LL) - there are some that are specialized in feature development and others are specialized in QA (Quality Assurance.) The feature guys get the code written and the QA guys try to fix any / all bugs resultant of the feature. Remember, there aren’t that many programmers working for LL right now, but there is over 5 million residents.. Let them catch up already!

Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this / but here goes / am I alone or just crazy ~ I am a builder here in SL with the new viewer I have found that once I have my prims linked and set in place ( I like to lock them so other people cannot tamper with my work ) I lock the item and lo & behold ~ unable to unlock that item now ~ or for that mater even see any type of information at all / including creator and owner , nothing ~ Zipppp ~ Nadda ~ Big Fat Zero there seems to be only two options 1. delete the item and start over and not lock the newly created one / or / 2. as I have found if i revert back to the last FL SL Client Second Life 1.13.4 (59748)release i can re-enter SL and wa-laaa everything is kool and the item recently created in the current stable release ( stable ha ha big joke ) ( which I could not edit ) is now back to normal / all attributes have returned to regular status.
I am sorry for being off topic in this post , but this problem is a very glaring one , staring me right in the eye as I now type this. perhaps I am missing some small thing I am doing incorrectly but I have been here in SL for a year and a half and building numerous things for the past year, so I am at a loss for words. Either I am not very bright or there is one heck of a major bug in this 1.4 SL code base that was not there in the FL Second Life 1.13.4 (59748)client or the last so-called stable 1.3
If some one can help me out with this / thank you / if not then we need to raise hell and get this fixed
Respectfully
JayR Cela

JayR I have not bothered to try content creation lately. Secondlife isnt stable. When it is unstable creation is entirely hit or miss. I have a huge backlog of work to do and I hope they resolve the glaring database problems and lay off touching anything else for a very long time.

> Another issue we are working on is that some avatars
> may show up as invisible upon login.
My avatar wasn’t invisible, but was … a woman! What the hell is going on here? So now we won’t know our gender until we log on? LOL. Is it my imagination or is SL deteriorating by the day?
March 30th, 2007 at 12:19 PM
OK, I logged back in and this time I was male. Whew.
March 30th, 2007 at 12:24 PM
@29…
And Usagi, to make it worse, what you see in your viewer isnt what others see in their viewers. It seems to be completely random as to what is displayed in any viewer.
Things you can expect in Secondlife right now:
1. “ruthed” (default clone) avatars
2. Gray avatars
3. Gray everything
4. Unstable objects (impossible to create new content)
5. Transform Failure and associated failure to log in
6. 20 lost and found folders, 19 each with it’s very own gesture in it.
7. Invisible Avatar - Your avatar is invisible (switch to a different group and back and edit appearance when something appears, usually fixes it, this is a very old defect that returned in the last 2 weeks)
8. Invisible avatars - seeing attachments moving around but not the avatar they are attached to.
9. The viewer appears to have a cap on how many avatars it can display. You are in a room with 60 avatars. You can see maybe 35 of them. You can, however, interact with all persons present in main chat.
10. Failure to teleport
11. Failed payments/purchases
All of the above is not coorelated to the number of users logged in at any given time. These issues are observed even when there are less than 20,000 residents logged in.
When the residents logged in count exceeds 36,000 there are additional issues that are so random they arent even worth listing until the “stable” issues listed above are corrected.
Any consideration to implementing new features should be permanantly placed on hiatus and the associated teams be reassigned or released from employment until the major defects are resolved.

#5 & #17 - Reading unrelated posts is becoming just about as enjoyable as signing in on a Sunday afternoon.
People wonder why LL disables comments or closes them after 2-3 hours. I mean, do you blame them? Posting problems or complaining about unrelated here does nothing except waste space. PLEASE learn how to use the in world help to report your problems or don’t post anything at all.

@31 Ann Otoole,
Being there the whole time…….the host was barly there but doing her job! my FPS was 25 fps when normally they at 9fps basic…… island sim fps was anywhere from a normal 1fps to 45fps. PLUE dils acting anywhere from .35 to .45.Now the island held. as it does normally ( ok its the Badlands sim as you know but others don`t)
But the LLabs side was the cause of this nightmare! Why didnt they pull the game down PERIOD? They should have….If Llabs continues at the rate will well need BRAND NEW Hardware if the contiun to abuse current hardware! DAM IT LLABS DUBLE THE DAM HARDWARE and GET MORE LINES OF DATE SENDING!.hiw much does a Server station cost? I throw inthe first 300.00 us monies :\

Usagi, on a sim with 90+ agents, I’m not surprised that nothing is moving well. That’s why most islands don’t allow more than 70, and mainland doesn’t allow more than 40.
Lindens, I’m fine, thanks for asking - dunno why everyone else is having so many problems, or so little patience when a problem does crop up. SL seems to work a hell of a lot better for me than for most people out there. Could be because I’m a systems admin by trade, and don’t allow my PC to get loaded up with cruft (toolbars, multiple firewalls, desktop searches, and all the rest of that useless baggage). I just don’t seem to have the problems they do.
