Hello,
I am running Vista on my Notebook (Samsung P35 1500) and installed the new ATI drivers, but now a new error comes up.

March 28th, 2007 at 2:16 PM
quick folks, run n try it, like to go on vista but if that causes more problems I ll wait a week or so. Like to know how viewer 1.14 goes on vist, Well done ATi, thanks LindenLab
March 28th, 2007 at 2:20 PM
What is wrong here?
Cannot log in but you work on windows vista ?
March 28th, 2007 at 2:31 PM
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and it doesn’t let me turn on things like bump mapping
March 28th, 2007 at 2:47 PM
This should be interesting. One of the Lindens basically said the same thing about nVidia drivers for Vista. If you don’t count crashing anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours (you can never know when) after starting SL, then I’d agree. I’d like to know if this “verification” is testing for more than a few minutes.
But I’ve got my fingers crosses for luck, ATI owners.

@Pansy
Sounds like a bunch of FUD spreading to me Pansy, I’ve been running both 32bit and 64bit versions of vista for about a month now (32bit at work, 64 at home) and both work perfectly fine with nvidia drivers and both motherboards are nvidia based chipsets I’ve never had a crash unless the sim I’m in goes down or something. You should try doing a virus scan or updating your other drivers for your motherboard and such before assuming its all SL’s fault

I have been running SL on Windows Vista for nearly a month now…I’m scared to updatate the drivers because then it might not work!
March 28th, 2007 at 3:05 PM
I downloaded those drivers today for my Sapphire Radeon 9600. I followed ATI’s instructions and so far no issues when I log in on the .14 client update. Very much the opposite problem of yesterday. I’m running XP Pro, not vista so that may have some effect as well on others still having problems, but at least for my system, I’m for this update okay now.
March 28th, 2007 at 3:07 PM
@sel korvin
that one doesnt it support as its an older graphics card
March 28th, 2007 at 3:08 PM
PS- 1.14 has given me at least a 50% boost in FPS on average with my home machine (Core 2 Duo E6400 stock speed, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz, evga nForce 680i w/P26 bios, 80gb WD x2 raid0, 400GB WD data, 300GB games, evga nVidia 7950GT KO)
WTG LL for actually fixing something noticeable to the average player =)
March 28th, 2007 at 3:11 PM
Yay! Finally SL runs on my Vista laptop. Running the Mobility X300, and so far so good. Everything looks a bit dark except for prim objects, I guess I’ll fiddle with it a bit and see what’s what.
FYI, when I installed the Catalyst package it didn’t actually update my actual driver; I had to manually do it from the Device Manager.
March 28th, 2007 at 3:34 PM
they haven’t released one for my specific card. bastages.
March 28th, 2007 at 3:39 PM
I have an ATI Mobility X1400. I installed the updated drivers 7.3 and the latest version of SL but it still will not work. When I try open SL it will look like it will start but then crash. Can someone give me any help with the matter.
March 28th, 2007 at 3:45 PM
@XanderMaria: Why do you want to “go on to Vista”? What’s the attraction in upgrading from XP if you don’t have to?
March 28th, 2007 at 4:31 PM
The key word is ‘want’. You don’t HAVE to upgrade.
March 28th, 2007 at 4:37 PM
YAY I am getting ready to down load and install the drivers I will try ANYTHING to get SL to run on my new laptop…My prob isnt crashing its I cant get anything to move or respond. I cant do much right now except camp!!!!! grrrrrrrrr am also adding another gig of memory maybe THAT will help
March 28th, 2007 at 4:42 PM
After the new update issue, I am leary…or weary… Which is it?
March 28th, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Drivers do not work for the ATI Xpress 200m either
March 28th, 2007 at 5:11 PM
Gamers of course want to go to Vista… many of the upcoming titles people are excited about are DirectX 10 only.
March 28th, 2007 at 5:34 PM
Well not until the fix current issue with vista. Yes more makers are doing only vista things now. But your forgetting all those xp users. In the past they did a LONG support of older os systems. XP wil be no different. ONLY Directx 10 don`t count on it…..
March 28th, 2007 at 5:49 PM
I didnt upgrade to vista my laptop has that and ive been wanting to play SL on it when im not home now I can!
March 28th, 2007 at 5:54 PM
Peekay, not all gamers, only current gamers. The older games are doing kernel writes…
March 28th, 2007 at 6:08 PM
OK, I don’t run Vista on my laptop, I have the drivers issue as well but I have XP;is there a fix for this as well?
Thanx!
March 28th, 2007 at 6:20 PM
I got a media accelerator 980 with my vista satellite a135-s4487
March 28th, 2007 at 6:56 PM
Why am I still not able to run SL? I downloaded and installed Catalyst 7.3, I havw Windows Vista and a brand new computer with and ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 card….? I downloaded the SL software, and it still wont let me open and use—its says I dont have the right drivers?? WHY??
March 28th, 2007 at 7:07 PM

I also have heAtimobility 1350.
Installed the new driver but Second Life is not working.
March 29th, 2007 at 2:00 AM
I have seen multiple blog entries that state…’why go to windows vista if you don’t have to…stick with XP’. I can give you an answer to this from my personal vista upgrade. I do a lot of work in Photoshop - in and out of SL. I had my computer crash (thankfully most is recovered) and just decided to go out and buy a computer…then upgrade it with motherboards, video cards, memory, what I wanted. ALL new computer come with Windows Vista now, I DO have my old XP disks…and will most likely being going back to XP. Main reason…Vista uses so much more virtual memory than XP it is ridiculous.
So…I guess you could say, for a gamer, the graphics are awesome on the Vista-AMD-nVidia combo - but Vista sucks for running multiple programs if you don’t go out and buy extra memory…

Installed 7.3 drivers for Radeon X1600 on my Vista machine, and I can get into Second Life - before it was crashing on launch. It does change the color settings to Vista Basic automatically, but changes them back once you quit.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:23 AM
Okay folks, help me out please. I’m looking at my new Dell and wishing SL would work because this monitor is sweet and I bet it would look amazing.
Here’s what I have, and SL crashes after the loading screen:
Dimension E520 Intel® Core2 Duo Processor E4300 (1.8GHz, 800 FSB)
Memory Free Upgrade to 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz from 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz
Monitor 20 inch E207WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
Video Cards Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3000
Hard Drives 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
Floppy Drive and Media Reader 13 in 1 Media Card Reader
OS Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
Any insight is much appreciated. I’ve tried downloading updated drivers straight from Intel, but the computer says they won’t install because “this driver is not validated for this computer.”
March 29th, 2007 at 6:10 AM
The new viewer with the latest ATI drivers is working flawlessly on my ATI X800XT, and X1600 PRO machines with all graphic options enabled, although I would still like to see SL enabled to take advantage of crossfire support in the future, I am just happy that I don’t have to use XP anymore.
March 29th, 2007 at 7:31 AM
Dude i istall too but not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 29th, 2007 at 8:36 AM
Exactly the same problem as Brad McConnell
ATI Mobility 1400.. new catalyst version installed, but still a crash before the login screen.
March 29th, 2007 at 9:42 AM
people….
the install takes a while… 10 minutes or so..
SL 1.14 and Catalyst 7.3 is working perfect here. on an AMD64 3500+ with a ATI X800GTO, and of course, Windows Vista (ultimate)
whatever problems you are having… there must be something you are doing wrong.
again, the 7.3 install takes forever.

Elendir Axon: I didn’t say anything about the crashing in SL with Vista/nVidia card being SL’s fault. It’s clearly nVidia’s fault, so sorry if I gave that impression. My objection was to generalized statements made by one of the Lindens that all nVidia cards (6800 on up) were tested by LL and found to be working fine.
A quick check of the nVidia user’s forum confirms that many are still having problems and waiting anxiously for nVidia’s next beta drivers.
For the benefit of other nVidia owners who may be reading, looks like some folks are having success runnig a “driver cleaner” of some sort before applying nVidia driver updates. But I’ve already uninstalled Vista and will wait until nVidia drivers are out of beta.
March 29th, 2007 at 11:11 AM
Well I for one am very happy. Second Life runs faster and cleaner on on Vista now than it does on XP (on the same machine). Fantastic. Thanks to the AMD/ATI team and the Linden people for sorting this out.
March 29th, 2007 at 11:20 AM
Stupid ATI drivers don’t install, empty shell of a download!!!!
Great they make drivers that finally work, you just can’t get to ot use them.

I’ve been running a 512 nVidia card on Vista with out ANY issues since it was released. It’s phenomenal that you’ve begun to resolve the ATI problme, not please address nVidia. Wiht the latest release I can’t so much as change a sceen without a crash.
March 29th, 2007 at 2:53 PM
For those with issues, go to search and enter guru3d.com and download. Works like a charm!!

Vista Ultimate - On Dell X600 ATI
Tried installing 7.3 Catalyst
does not install. Says there are no components avaiable
Real fight to update the driver manually
had to hack Vista registry to show all drivers
driver works but Catalyst CCC mgr does not work
On the good side SL 1.14 works fine (huge improvement)

Hi Guys at Linden Labs!
Seems that you’ve been very lucky that you got SL run on your vista machines, cause I have a new E6600 machine and a Radeon X1950pro with 7.3 drivers and Second Life still doesn’t run under Vista…
So something is obviously wrong here! Instead of posting this euphoric messages you should try and do something to get SL really running under Vista!!
March 30th, 2007 at 5:48 AM
Hey!
I got SL now running under Vista (on my Radeon 1950pro and E6600 system), but I had to turn off bump-mapping and anisotropic filtering. I think this was the problem…
Cheers Christoph

March 30th, 2007 at 8:43 AM
I am running a beta of the new ATI on Win64 pro and then work okay as well. Now if I could find a good driver for the ATI mobile 9000 chipset… I would love to run this on my Sony Laptop, but the drivers from Sony don’t work, and this update from ATI wont install on it. Oh well….
The 1.14 client runs great. Have had no issues other than it seems to be a bit of a resource hog. LL - this is definately the way to do things. Good timely information, and client that was properly debugged before release. Pie to everyone…

I am running Windows Vista & I have an ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 and I don’t see my card listed at the site referenced above. Does anyone know if this card will work with Second Life? Do I need a new driver, and if so, where is it?
Thanks!

Attention all drivers of 7.3 at are pulled back to fix installer errors.
Thank you, We now know to only buy nVidia products…or distrust ATI at least, Im looking forward to the “uber” duel graphics cards for my Alienware!
I had installer problems earlier, Id love to know how some people sucessfuly installed it.

Hello Thiink Tenk,
I saw that too, that they removed the 7.3 driver. I was lucky and had the download before they removed it BUT:
SL does not start on my Vista-System with ATI Mobilitiy 1400.
So, where is the problem?
April 1st, 2007 at 7:47 AM
Thiink Tenk, I too have also notice that he 7.3 drivers are gone. I still have not got it to work. Nor have I got any help from ATI or SL. If you can help any please let me know email me at bradmcconnell1@gmail.com. I have not been on SL in a few weeks.
April 1st, 2007 at 3:22 PM
I own a Gateway CX210X with Vista Home Premium, I have the 32 bit 7.2 Catalyst drivers installed for my x1400 mobility radeon card. Second Life crashes on boot!!! I want my Second Life back and the 7.3 drivers. I have sent an e-mail to ATI. If anyone can help please do!

April 3rd, 2007 at 5:28 PM
Hi Garfield Online and Brad M:
I haven’t found anything. The folks at Dell told me to contact ATI, which I sent emails, called, posted on their Knowledge base, and NO-ONE has been able to help. Apparently those of us with the x1400 Mobility Radeon and Vista are beat for now. If you guys come up with anything, please let me know…and I will do the same. our best bet is to ALL try and find a fix for this somehwere, and keep each other posted.
April 5th, 2007 at 6:02 PM
Hi Thiink Tenk, Garfield Online, Brad M and the rest of the x1400/Vista ppl…
I had exactly the same problem! Bought a new DELL with x1400 and Vista and tried SL… crashed every time!!
So I updated my drivers to 7.3 and it still crashed… So, with nothing to lose I tried what John (post #53) suggested: I went to guru3d.com and searched for ATi drivers. And then I found the “NGO ATI Optimized Driver v1.7.3” on http://downloads.guru3d.com.
With nothing to lose, I installed them (after uninstalling ATi)
AND GUESS WHAT!!! I launched SL and everything worked! So pls try this and let me know what happened!
Hope all goes well!
N
April 5th, 2007 at 9:30 PM
the new drivers and SL work great with my radeon 1600XT. Sl never ran so well for me. Problem now is Windows did a auto update and since the update Vista crashes on the user logon for VIsta itself. they have to g0 break soemthing that was fixed.
April 6th, 2007 at 1:35 PM
In response to Nevaeh’s post.. thank you! I’m also a Dell user with an ATI Mobility x1400. I downloaded the drivers from guru3D and Second Life now works!
I seriously suggest anyone having problems gives them a try
April 6th, 2007 at 3:54 PM
I’m with Thiink Tenk … I installed Catalyst 7.3 and the new drivers from the AMD web site, using the link provided in Steve Linden’s post, and I STILL get the same message that “Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers are out of date or unsupported.” So my new AMD 3800 X2 with ATI Radeon X1300Pro Graphics Card is totally useless for Second Life, and I’m stuck with my old XP desktop that crashes 3 minutes after I start the SL client. ATI says it must be Second Life’s problem, Steve Linden’s post says the new ATI drivers have been tested and certified …
April 6th, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Nevaeh’s post held hope. I tried the download but, like all previous attempts my Vista hp x1300 could not install the software. CCC comes up empty. I hope ATI can integrate their 7.3 installer with Vista soon. Any one with other good ideas please post.
April 6th, 2007 at 8:23 PM
Thanks Nevaeh, Thiink Tenk, Garfield Online, Brad M and the rest of the x1400/Vista ppl… being in the same place (i.e., STUCK) with my new Dell and ATI X1300pro graphics card, I installed the NGO ATI Optimized Driver v1.7.3 from guru3d.com, and now SL works!!! (I hope that everything else does as well.)
April 6th, 2007 at 10:07 PM
Vista would not allow me to install 7.3 in my X1400. Does guru3d have a different version of the driver?
April 7th, 2007 at 6:10 PM
Thiink Tenk,
I got it to work. What I did was uninstalled SL. and the updated drivers is7.3. Then reloaded the drivers first, then SL. and it works great. I really hope this helps. If you see me on let me know or send me a email bradmcconnell1@gmail.com
April 8th, 2007 at 5:29 AM
Hi,
the original ATI 7.3 drivers are not yet ready for Mobility x1400. Look into the specification and mobility radeon is not named.
jens
April 8th, 2007 at 7:28 AM
It turned out to be my misunderstanding - I was trying to load the ATI update for 64-bit Windows VISTA, and it did not autoload … because my computer has the 32-bit version of VISTA. When I used the correct version, the ATI driver updated correctly and SL worked just fine. “My bad,” as they say in the vernacular.
P.S. DON’T use the NGO driver from guru3d.com - the Catalyst Control Center does not work, and the system becomes a bit unstable and prone to crashing.
April 10th, 2007 at 3:43 AM
Hello everyone,
I TRIED to install the driver NGO Ati optimized, but it dosen’t work well- I had a lot of problems to get it working. Also, SL does NOT start- so I got the same problem as before.
Also the same problem when I do it like DRH2000 (post no. 87).
I think the most dissapointing thing is, that no one got an answer for that problem. Will it be fixed with the next Ati driver? Is SL working on this problem?
It would be very helpful, if someone can say that they are working on this problemto get this fixed.
To say it in one sentence:
Dell System, Ati Mobility x1400 (Catalyst 7.2 + 7.3), Secondlife is still NOT working!!!
April 10th, 2007 at 4:32 PM
Hey Folks!
New changes at the ATI webside when you click on the vista driver for mobility x1400 ….
Doesn’t sound good to me …
So, we have an answer for the moment …
This is very disapointing …
April 11th, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Dell has a 2/26/2007 driver release R147065.exe for Their Inspiron E1705 laptop with the Mobility Radeon 1400X. Has anyone tried this successfully? Based on the date, my guess is that it won’t work with SL, and I’m reluctant to switch from the guru3d.com driver I downloaded. The latter works with SL but introduces aggravating conflicts on shutdown.
April 12th, 2007 at 2:27 PM
Hello Bobb,
when I got it right, the guru3d driver is only for win2000 and XP based systems- O.K. you can try it on vista and hope it will work, but my experience was that I had some fatal errors, bluescreens and boot up errors on vista with this driver.
Please, can someone else try to install the Dell driver? I don’t want to switch the driver every day …

April 14th, 2007 at 8:58 AM
Hello everyone,
It’s weekend- and I got time. So I installed the driver from the Dell Homepage: release R147065.exe
First I deinstalled the ATI driver, and Secondlife.
Then I istalled the driver from Dell-Homepage, then I installed Secondlife and: ………surprise surprise:
Second life does NOT start !
Very disapointing ….
But I’m sure: I will NOT switch back to XP
April 16th, 2007 at 4:54 AM
My experiences with Vista (32) and SL:
- tried it on the new laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 - it crashes
- tried it with the newest CCC 7.3 - it crashes
- for other reasons I just killed Vista and installed XP Pro and surprise - SL works fine!
April 16th, 2007 at 2:08 PM
It is not the problem that SL does not work- on every new new start, there are problems- but:
they should be solved! - I hate the most, when I got no answers. If someone can give me shedule- f.e. it will take 2 month till there is an new version, driver or what else available, then it would be much easier …

Can´t believe…. it finally works…. had a lot of problems and spent a lot of time, but now it works and SL is running very fine with brilliant colours.
I have Vista 32 bit running with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. First I did after reading all the messages here is deinstalling SL, then deinstalling ATI 7.3 with the Installationmanager. After this I installed the NGO ATI optimized from guru3d.com. After restart I Vista blocked it but I had to tell not to block….. then I installed SL again…. and now it works…. really great!!!
Brilliant Graphic!!!!

Hi
I also have Dell with Vista and an X1400 ATI Radeon card. I downloaded the latest drivers from Dell (didnt work) and then got Catalyst 7.2 and that didnt work. Second Life just won’t run, in fact, I’ve never played it because of this!
Had anyone tried this? http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ I have no experience of such things but it looks like a hack to allow drivers like the 7.3 to work on the mobility models. I had not seen it mentioned here so I thought I’d bring it up. Notice that it is still in Beta so be careful.

OK I have now tried the mobility modder from Driver Heaven and it seems to work. I no longer crash trying to startup secondlife. I have never played it though so I cant tell you how well it works!
