Volunteer Program Applications…
Wednesday, March 21st, 2007 at 8:44 AM by: Blue…to be processed soon!
Currently we’re looking at a rather large backlog of Volunteer Program Applications. We’ve been going through the process of approving and inviting applicants manually, but we haven’t been gaining much ground. Thankfully, we’ve almost completed tools to help automate the process and as I mentioned, in a previous blog post, we’re bringing in some lovely Liaison Specialists to help us! So if you’ve signed up to be a volunteer you won’t have much longer to wait to find out if you’ve been accepted.
In the process of working on changes to the Volunteer Program, we’ll be disabling the ability to sign up for Help Request. In addition, we will not be inviting Volunteers during the period in which the new Volunteer application processing tool is being enabled and tested. But as mentioned above, when we’re back in action, we’ll be able to get through the existing backlog quickly. Whew! We very much appreciate your patience while we work to help you to help make SL a better place for everyone.

Glad to hear it blue! Can you share the scale of the problem - how long have people been waiting (for me it’s months)? How many people are you looking for? I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Yay
Can’t wait.

Lol, not even certain half the programs i signed up for even exist any longer. It’s been like nine months now, should really go and re-evaluate some of those applications…

I don’t have an official list of sign-up dates, but in talking to various folks this past week I’ve heard that others have been waiting for months as well, Brock.
Although it sounds like Odysseus may have been waiting longest O_o!

What is to become of the Instructors group? Is it dead? Is it going to be transitioned to another purpose? Merged? Will LL kill it? I’m finding most of my new instructors for NCI via other means now. If this group is effectively dead, I could use the extra group slot, and the reduction in chat spam.

(1) Brock, I’ve been waiting since September on my Mentor application. I have been helping anyway, especially since I’m bilingual, but there were lots of times when it would have helped to be able to meet someone earlier in the process rather than wait for them to get on to the mainland.
Well, if all else fails I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing. But I do hope I might get to be a Mentor anyhow.

I am afraid I gave up several weeks back and canceled my applications. I and several others whom I know to be very qualified, tried email and IM to the various Lindens associated with the programs and never got a reply. Just assumed we were no longer wanted. At this point it appears you are overloaded with helpers, so I guess I will just leave it that way.
Again, my biggest complaint with LL is the really poor communication, too little, too late, and often inaccurate.
The Blog seems to be getting used more as a tool for real communication, this being a good example. I hope the trend continues.

Awesome news! I just put my application in for liason and volunteer and expect a three month wait or longer. Its great to hear that its becoming animated.
March 21st, 2007 at 3:29 PM
What is this for? For applying as a Liason?
If there’s a 9-month-plus backlog of people who have applied, I would think submitting my resume would be a waste of time. I would love to be a liason, though, because I enjoy helping people and I speak English and French, and a good deal of Japanese.

But are you really monitoring who your bring in? In the past 9 months you have added some past griefters to the mentors. And Maybe I ask what this about a “Clean Recorded” There are some that has bad “INGAME” Alt trolling attacks on people inthe mentor groups? If So what is a policy if one been banned what is the period of the time they need to stay out of the banned listing?

I signed up for your volunteer program about 7-8 months ago and still haven’t heard anything. I think it’s a bit of a joke as you say max 8 weeks!
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Sorry, this is NOT in regards to application for paid position of Liaison, which is described in detail here: http://lindenlab.com/employment/concierge/liaisons
This blog post is referring specifically to the in-world Volunteer groups.
Paul, if it IS a joke, then I’m afraid it’s a Shaggy Dog story. But I’m working with others here to make sure that, in the future, it’s more of a one-liner!

Hiya all, just thought all of you residents paying good real dollars to play this farce of a game would like to know how you can expect to be treated by the Linden clan should they cause something to happen that robbed you of your land, finances or Inventory.
In Dec of last year Lindens did another of their famous upgrades, and as a result my partner Victoria Jacques lost nearly her entire inventory ..a folder that contained 27 months of purchases..everything she owned except her clothes and what we had on the ground.
Vic reported this loss straight away and received the customary Linden customer service response..deathly silence.
Over the past 4 months she has chased and chased them to find her lost inventory (i must add at this point that Lindens accepted it was a problem glitch caused by them)
Finally in frustration, and many broken promises of “we will investigate and get back to you” Vic rang Michael Linden in person..giving him full details of times dates and people spoken to.
Once again..the customary reponse..”will get back to you”..which of course he never did.
Finally i spoke with Robin Linden on Vics behalf, and i must commend her for at least getting back to me and finally getting something to happen.
Vic received a note from Michael Linden appologising for all the problems caused, and for her losing her inventory, and sent her a most generous compensation of 3000L..YES FOLKS,THATS RIGHT 3000L FOR THE LOSS OF 27 MONTHS OF INVENTORY.
Vic rang Michael and asked for an explanation of how he arrived at that value..his reply was that is the maximum Lindens will pay as reimbursment for any loss caused by them, and infact are under no obligation to pay anything.
He then went on to imply that Vic could be trying to “defraud” poor old Lindens by exagerating the extent of her losses, and if not could have purchased all those items and “given them away”..he then clutched at another straw and said because she had taken 3 months to report it she could be trying to take advantage of them.
Heyyy Michael..if you ever read these bloggs, and i doubt you care enough to do so..Never at any stage has Vic asked you or anyone else for financial compensation..she just wants her inventory back that was lost by negligence and incompetence on behalf of Lindens.
I sent back the 3000L .and was most pleased to see that Lindens kept it and gave me the curtesy of ..yes folks you guessed it..NO REPLY.
Please use the 3000L to put a down payment on a concience, and apart from Robin Linden perhaps you could use it for learning some people skills or a dictionary explaining the meaning of customer service.
The way Victoria has been treated is shameful,i just hope that noone else ever has to be confronted with Lindens arrogance, indifference, negligence and refusal to accept any responsibilty for their incompetance.
No wonder fully paid up members only account for 15% of the worlds population, there will be even less when my next subs are due.
Smiles, thanks all for having the patience to let me vent my spleen..thats if they let this through lol..Kind regards Kush.
(footnote)..since writing this i was advised that philip linden is a fair and honourable man,so sent him the complete history of what happened..yep folks ..have been deafened by the silence of his reply.
