Land Store Re-Opened, Now with More Space
Monday, March 5th, 2007 at 5:42 PM by: Jeff LindenThe land store upgrade is complete. Here are the changes:
- I expanded the reservable area by 300 units west, 100 units north.
- The land store now displays the X, Y coordinate more for many “unavailable” messages.
- In order for you to reserve a space, all EIGHT spaces around it must be open; that is, they must not be reserved or built-upon already. Previously, this was just the four cardinal directions.
Again, please note that we are in the process of redesigning the entire “Land Store” concept. I understand that the current incarnation is somewhat difficult to use, and the Lindens involved with the Land Store have been very vocal about resident feedback with various frustrations.
Comments are welcome, but please try to keep it useful or constructive! Thanks a lot for your patience today.

March 5th, 2007 at 5:44 PM
Yay! Here is constructive thanks!
March 5th, 2007 at 5:54 PM
More constructive thanks for the Lindens (even though I don’t plan on owning land)
March 5th, 2007 at 6:15 PM
Hey - LoL Labs - UPDATES are welcome, ‘but please try to keep them useful or constructive’. LOL!
March 5th, 2007 at 6:38 PM
The land store, everything that uses the browser map, still seems toast with IE7..
March 5th, 2007 at 6:40 PM
I applaud all areas where things improve. While I am not (nessecarily) a newbie to SL, the location of this ‘land store’ eludes me, and perhaps it would be useful to addendum how / where to gain access to it?
March 5th, 2007 at 6:59 PM
i normally dont comment here , just like to read it , but seeing how they supposedly have upgraded the land store was wondering if anyone out there may have experienced the following when they go to the land store , cause i have never been nor am i able to even see a map on the land store , due to the following error
Line: 90
Char: 3
Error: ‘WindowOptions’ is undefined
Code:0
URL: http://secure-web12.secondlife.com/apps/mapapps/buy/
perhaps Lindens have a wrokaround for this , seeing how they like workarounds so well , as opposed to actually fixing thins properly

March 5th, 2007 at 7:07 PM
How about allowing people with existing reservations or pending sims to move out into the new area upon request? That would clean up some of the congestion in the existing area.
March 5th, 2007 at 7:16 PM
Still doesnt work in IE, same error as before.
Line 90 Char 3 “windowOptions” is undefined
Line 2740 Char 530805 “syntax error”
should be an easy fix, but its been broken for months
March 5th, 2007 at 7:58 PM
I’m with serious serapis…i would love to have my pending land moved further north…IF there is anyway i could do that PLEASE EMAIL ME LL.
March 5th, 2007 at 8:06 PM
What kind of compensations will be taken for the current SIM and reservation owners????
March 5th, 2007 at 8:18 PM
H.K., why do you feel that current sim and reservation owners need to be compensated? Compensated for what? How does the availability of additional land invalidate any existing sim or reservation?
March 5th, 2007 at 8:37 PM
Happy to say, no surprises, the Land Store still does not work with IE7, you really should fix it so it works with the most commonly used browser in the world.
March 5th, 2007 at 8:48 PM
Land store is not working with Firefox either. I try to convert a reservation into a region and I get the following error:

@ Ravanne Sullivan: It works fine with the most commonly used browser in the world. AFAIK, IE7 still isn’t even in the top three.
March 6th, 2007 at 12:16 AM
Dear Lindens, I wanted to buy a region in the Land Store, but in the check out process I get a “declined” message.
The account information is valid and the account is a premium member (annually billed). What is going wrong? Do you have an idea? I’ve to do this for a client.
Of course like always it’s urgent.
Thank you very much, Mark
March 6th, 2007 at 12:31 AM
i no this isnt the place to ask but i didnt no where to go
how do i go about gettin 2 ppl banned from SL?
March 6th, 2007 at 12:57 AM
Summer, you are right, the wrong place to ask
Abuse Report tool is under the help menu in game. (if it is from your personal land only, that’s another question but I take it you want them banned completely)
Thanks for the extra land Lindens. Looking forward to the revised land store as well.
March 6th, 2007 at 2:45 AM
“In order for you to reserve a space, all EIGHT spaces around it must be open”
THANK YOU!
I’m a little burnt about having to pay US$150 to move because some fool corners my themed sim and decides to sell parcels. Perhaps not griefing in itself but it had that potential + a serious eyesore (dark themed + someone’s pink and purple club = hell no).
Damn good call.
March 6th, 2007 at 3:16 AM
I am getting the EXACT SAME error message that Torin Golding is getting when I go to convert a region. The frustrating thisng is that I have emailed the concierge about this twice in the last 2 weeks and have yet to receive a response. How about leaving the land store as-is until you can address the customer service issues?

IE7 is the third most used browser (IE6 being the most used, and Firefox being the second most) and has been for a few months now.
March 6th, 2007 at 3:37 AM
Blah, blah, blah. What ever. Every person who I got to sign up for an account has downgraded to a free account. Why? No First Land.
It used to be a ‘promise’ of a toe hold with First Land. Now you can’t even afford a foot hold when the big bucks swoop in. Three months ago I was saying watch where this company is going. Now I say “Watch who’s going to buy them and maybe do something”. I think in actuality, someone else will do it better. Even AOL might still be better.
What potential for an unrealized vision. Thanks for letting me spend my money like a tard. I feel like a former cult member.
March 6th, 2007 at 3:49 AM
Just to add to the previous comments it (land store) does not display on my computer, neither does the virtual map on the main web page.
Am using IE7 plus Windows XP
March 6th, 2007 at 4:43 AM
I also have not been able to use the interactive map since the IE7 update.

Seems to me that the easiest thing to do would be to solve all the browser problems would be to move the land store into the SL client. Even if you can’t manage it in the World Map and have to do it do it in a Gecko window at least you’d only have one browser to target.
Also… how about doing that with the Transaction History in First Look?
March 6th, 2007 at 5:26 AM
I’m just wondering if and when is there gonna be more first land to buy for 512.? Can anyone tell me?
March 6th, 2007 at 6:07 AM
I have been tryin for 2 months to move my sialnd you sold everything around it so that within a 1 square regeon i am surrounded any help in pointing me in right direction would be great i dont want a bunch of sex club crap islands surrounding me and if i cant move guess time to sell all 3 of my regeons and save 600 usd a month
March 6th, 2007 at 8:05 AM
For people using IE7… stop it. Use open-source product like Firefox which supports proper coding standards.
March 6th, 2007 at 8:34 AM
Glad to see I’m not the only one, Xavier. I too have gotten nothing from ‘conceirge’ after two attempts to email them except the standard automatic response that they got my email.
March 6th, 2007 at 9:07 AM
Ylikone Obscure Says:
“For people using IE7… stop it. Use open-source product like Firefox which supports proper coding standards.”
I just downloaded and installed Firefox. In a head to head comparison on non-cached web sites IE7 was at least 3 times faster on displaying the page.
March 6th, 2007 at 9:34 AM
@ 23

i distinctly remember reading up higher that firefox was having issues too. so it doesnt sound like any browser except IE6 is working with the new map. see message9.
i havent tried looking atit yet. IE7 and windows Vista here.

Hey, how about fixing the process credit pages on your website! Is Linden Labs keeping our funds hostage?
Seems easy enough to pay LL, but getting paid back seems to be a different story.
Second day (at least) it’s been broken. Not a peep from support.
March 6th, 2007 at 9:36 AM
HELLO LL ARE YOU THERE AT ALL?
I am getting sick and tired of not getting an answer from support and no way to find out what is going on via the very selective blogs (don’t suggest inworld help either)
The process credit function is failing when you try to draw down to paypal. It has been down all day and no mention in blogs (I have another query with support - still no answer after 10 bloody days - no way to find out what is going on.
This is why I have sold all my land and going back to the 512 plot only holding. Having an unstable grid is one thing but the lack of accountabilty and communication is another.
Please put a blog up about the issues with process credit. I want to draw my real $ money down.
March 6th, 2007 at 10:15 AM
@Quantum Daikon #27
Also am unable to use process credit. Have also sent mail to support with no response. What gives??? I know you are busy but not being able to use your Real Money balance would seem like an issue worthy of Linden attention.
Cheers and Good Luck
Brookston
March 6th, 2007 at 10:40 AM
Is there a map of all of SL? I really don’t understand the map in the land store, my colour vision isn’t all that great, and it’s not a map as such, I would love to see a visual representation of all of SL. For instance, there’s a new continent coming up, but I can’t see it… the map in the viewer doesn’t seem to want to pull back far enough to show the entire thing all in one go?
Have I missed something, or, err, am I being dumb?
March 6th, 2007 at 11:07 AM
@ Brookston #28
thx, actually I gave up expecting a response from Lindens or LL several months ago, but I need to let off steam.
Suport is a waste of time and the current LL business model is no longer about creating a virtual world for the residents. That is why I have sold up. I will keep my premium account open until it runs out in the vain hope that SL changes direction but I doubt it.
Ah well, steam nearly vented….I think I will just nip in word and grief a Linden…oh I can’t they are all fixing holes. lol
Thx
Quant
March 6th, 2007 at 11:24 AM
@Lindens
Thanks for fixing process credit.
Cheers
March 6th, 2007 at 12:01 PM
Im wondering about some of the people commenting here. Im using IE7 and the land store works fine…
March 6th, 2007 at 12:37 PM
@ post 32, Darien:
The IE 7 for Windows Vista does not display the land store map at all. I even disabled security completely and that doesn’t work. I think MS calls it IE 7+ or some such nonsense.
March 6th, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Woehahahaha, Buying land and no change to logon….
Forget that, please LL make first a stable enviroment that can support those people. if you can handle 40K, what about 100K?
March 6th, 2007 at 1:44 PM
Im using IE7 and the land store and map don’t appear.
March 6th, 2007 at 2:12 PM
Land store map will NOT open error on page guess still a few bugs
March 6th, 2007 at 3:23 PM
I buy L$ using my credit card when I need inworld purchase power, why must I relog to show the new balance and why has this been going on for weeks? Did no-one else notice?
March 6th, 2007 at 4:33 PM
Nano Ashby, try this url: http://secondlife.com/apps/mapapps/homepage_map .
March 6th, 2007 at 8:04 PM
Xavier
I canceled the reservation and then bought the land from the front page of the Land Store. That was the only way I could do it. Every attempt I have made over these last two weeks or so to get some resolution from LL has come to nothing.
March 7th, 2007 at 7:51 AM
The topic is Land Sales, right?
If so, I want to add my voice to Misterbear and Raina Guru by asking WHERE THE HECK IS FIRST LAND???
As a new person to SL (not a newbie) I feel totally duped by the false promise of something that apparently hasn’t been around for ages.
March 7th, 2007 at 8:17 AM
Anyone know if there is going to be any first land sometime….anytime?

How about a guy who wants to force low prices by building a huge
wall around your land like Marth Rocco.
I would prefer to have an honest business in sl, but for some reason
always evil shows up…. This is so fair play Marth.

April 3rd, 2007 at 3:59 PM
great…now how about fixing the bug that is obviously in the division of land…and the level of your customer service
I purchased a parcel today..a 1024 for 12300 lindens and divided it for resale….I split it into two 512 parcels…and then went to put them both up for sale for 7150 each…I definitely had a green line down the center of my parcel…dividing it into two parcels…I put one up for sale for 7150, and the second that I clicked the confirmation for putting it up for sale…the green line disappeard…the parcels reverted into a single parcel of 1024 again, and a landbot swooped it in half a second A landbot run by Zor Zeddmore, of course both the bot and Zor ignore my request to make things right…so I am out 5150 lindens…and so I called the concierge support, to fix this obvious problem…
I got hold of Guy Linden, and he came to the parcel and did some sort of “examination” while I waited..then told me he could do NOTHING. There is obviously an undocumented bug in the system…I am hardly in the habit of buying land and selling it for much less than I buy it for…and I sure saw the green line on the parcel.
So…basically, the lindens are supporting the “right” of the landbots to rip us off, because of a bug in THEIR systems????…I want everyone to know…buy land at your own risk in this game…you have a better chance keeping your money if you just flush it…

Hiya all, just thought all of you residents paying good real dollars to play this farce of a game would like to know how you can expect to be treated by the Linden clan should they cause something to happen that robbed you of your land, finances or Inventory.
In Dec of last year Lindens did another of their famous upgrades, and as a result my partner Victoria Jacques lost nearly her entire inventory ..a folder that contained 27 months of purchases..everything she owned except her clothes and what we had on the ground.
Vic reported this loss straight away and received the customary Linden customer service response..deathly silence.
Over the past 4 months she has chased and chased them to find her lost inventory (i must add at this point that Lindens accepted it was a problem glitch caused by them)
Finally in frustration, and many broken promises of “we will investigate and get back to you” Vic rang Michael Linden in person..giving him full details of times dates and people spoken to.
Once again..the customary reponse..”will get back to you”..which of course he never did.
Finally i spoke with Robin Linden on Vics behalf, and i must commend her for at least getting back to me and finally getting something to happen.
Vic received a note from Michael Linden appologising for all the problems caused, and for her losing her inventory, and sent her a most generous compensation of 3000L..YES FOLKS,THATS RIGHT 3000L FOR THE LOSS OF 27 MONTHS OF INVENTORY.
Vic rang Michael and asked for an explanation of how he arrived at that value..his reply was that is the maximum Lindens will pay as reimbursment for any loss caused by them, and infact are under no obligation to pay anything.
He then went on to imply that Vic could be trying to “defraud” poor old Lindens by exagerating the extent of her losses, and if not could have purchased all those items and “given them away”..he then clutched at another straw and said because she had taken 3 months to report it she could be trying to take advantage of them.
Heyyy Michael..if you ever read these bloggs, and i doubt you care enough to do so..Never at any stage has Vic asked you or anyone else for financial compensation..she just wants her inventory back that was lost by negligence and incompetence on behalf of Lindens.
I sent back the 3000L .and was most pleased to see that Lindens kept it and gave me the curtesy of ..yes folks you guessed it..NO REPLY.
Please use the 3000L to put a down payment on a concience, and apart from Robin Linden perhaps you could use it for learning some people skills or a dictionary explaining the meaning of customer service.
The way Victoria has been treated is shameful,i just hope that noone else ever has to be confronted with Lindens arrogance, indifference, negligence and refusal to accept any responsibilty for their incompetance.
No wonder fully paid up members only account for 15% of the worlds population, there will be even less when my next subs are due.
Smiles, thanks all for having the patience to let me vent my spleen..thats if they let this through lol..Kind regards Kush.
(footnote)..since writing this i was advised that philip linden is a fair and honourable man,so sent him the complete history of what happened..yep folks ..have been deafened by the silence of his reply.

Just wanted to comment on land ownership a bit since i found nowhere else where anyone cared. I purchased a premium account for someone because she wanted to have her own space - where she could learn to build, and have people visit and experience whatever else s/l had to offer, but now we realize the 512m parcel we thought we got with the premium account isnt even land… its just taxes we pay on the land we may or may not be able to buy from someone else… I dont mind the land system that is in place, i just think you should make it CLEAR that there is NO LAND available without dealing with land sharks and then paying the linden taxes for the priviledge of dealing with those land sharks. just like r/l i guess…
