[Update] Earlier problems w/In-World Activity Resolved

Monday, January 22nd, 2007 at 2:49 PM by: Jesse Linden

[Update: 06:12PM PST 01/22/07] The problems appear to have been caused by heavy database load this afternoon. At this time Grid activity has stabilized and teleports etc. should be working per usual.

[Update 03:36 PST 01/22/07] Nothing new to report yet…still looking into the problem.

We are currently experiencing issues with failed Teleports, Linden $ account balances, and avatars not showing up at login, and profile information not loading. We are investigating these issues now and will post an update here as soon as more information becomes available. Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter…

  1. 1 Montana Corleone Says:

Are you guys slow or something? Everyone else knows what these issues are… 26k plus users.
Everytime you get that many the whole system falls over….

Regularly, like every weekend, and now it looks like weekdays too.

  2. 2 Lothareal Legien Says:

Montana, the infrastructure should theoretically be able to handle the load it is being asked to do - so the problem isn’t likely the number of uses, but a glitch or bug that is only triggering frequently enough to be a problem when population load is high.

  3. 3 Robbo Insoo Says:

    SL needs more tubes!

  4. 4 Ingwa Tuni Says:

Yea, I would chill on the flames. I’m sure everyone is getting a bit tired of all the moaning that goes on here. Sl grows on a daily basis, it takes hard work to keep expanding for more and more capacity. And besides, improvements are always being made, so try and enjoy them….Pretty Please.

  5. 5 Chryssalyn Donnelly Says:

I am also experiencing problems with bad packet loss, generally in spikes, but sometimes constant. Bandwidth spikes also seem to accompany this, but I suppose that makes sense. lol

  6. 6 Alpha Vargas Says:

+ Inventory not loading, relogged and clearing cache doesn’t help, if anything, it makes it worse.

    So called it.
I also predict grid outage for maintainance in the near future.

what keeps happening with the TP, login, L$, etc issues? I *thought* those were taken care of?

  7. 7 Logan Lyne Says:

Right right… I was never disapointet of Linden Labs. They are always doing good work and they always keep their users up to date? Who ever played World of Warcraft knows what’s called a bad support.
Keep it up Linden Labs! ^^

  8. 8 Chance Unknown Says:

Allocate some of the $$$ we spend as customers, and get a team on this. The central database mechanism is too fragile.

  9. 9 Scooby Abdallah Says:

Hi, sorry to bothe but i had at least 7 crashes today
lost money due to this but the worst is it is slowly but surely getting
    unplayable.

  10. 10 Mal Says:

hm..thanks for the “wonderful” SL experience. Just didn’t get paid several hundreds lindens, can’t teleport, can’t rez objects. I have a SL job, that I’m not even going to attempt to do until LL resolve these issues, so there go few more thousands of lindens….Thank you soooo much!

  11. 11 Northlight Sodwind Says:

Well they say “to foul things up completely, requires a computer”.

I thought I would let you know that I have spend longer trying to GET Into SL in the last three days than I have been in world working towards a community auction at Fermi Design.

    Tonight I completely failed.

Hopefully those others who are doing great work towards the same end and may be able to get into SL from there part of the planet will read this and know that the date will now be no earlier than next Sunday.

Such are the effects of unreliability of the system…

  12. 12 Vincent Nacon Says:

All they really do (from my point of guess) just reboot the servers and replace anything that has been burnt out. Nothing actually new. Just kinda sitting back and do almost nothing about it… yet.

Lindens… just go work on Mono and whatever there is for SL 2.0, don’t worry too much about this network outages.

People of SL… either get used to it or be patient. Don’t bother flaming/whinning/complaining about it. LL already got the hint.

If you can’t take it, then go play something else.

If you want to help them… don’t just log on and do nothing, don’t Teleport so much, and don’t toy with your inventory other than cleaning your trash and lost & found folder.

Oh yeah… stop creating more ALT accounts while youre at it.

  13. 13 Di Celt Says:

I am beginning to despair that things will ever work better. We do better for a few days, and then a raft of new (or famililar old) problems makes life almost impossible. I am logging in only to check on my biz activities. I am close to washing my hands of the whole thing and quitting. The changes in Search function (the 100 at a time part) has place my little business at a terrible disadvantage. Teleports are regularly not working - I could go on….

I’ve felt it was worth waiting and seeing if things might improve, but they haven’t for more than a few days at a time. Sadly, it’s almost time to go. I recently signed on to another MPORPG and it is GREAT. No crashes. Everything works as advertised etc. It’s not as interesting as SL - but then Sl doesn’t work so how interesting is that?

  14. 14 Nite Zelmanov Says:

    @Montana Corleone:

Really? I thought that it was 24k, wait, no, 22k… actually, I could swear that just a few weeks ago EVERYONE KNEW the sky was falling at 15k.

Seems to me we’ve come a long way from problems at 15k and in pretty short time. It’s not ideal, but it’s not warranted to refer to our linden techs as “slow” because they don’t know that this is a concurrency issue. Clearly they do.

  15. 15 Sergeant Schultz Says:

Waaaaaaaaahhhh! If you can’t take people complaining about downtime and system interruptions, get outa IT.

I just installed this software for the first time and it isn’t working. I’m not impressed. Whatever the problem is, you better find it and get it fixed fast, or don’t expect anyone to spend $$$ on you.

I would *hope* that you would not be so stupid as to deploy a system of this magnitude without planning for a rapidly expanding capacity into the millions of users.

  16. 16 Ravanne Sullivan Says:

As soon as enough people get fed up with not being able to do anything and leave LL will declare the problem “Resolved!!!”

Lothareal, what makes you think the grid can in theory handle this kind of load? LL has already said that it could not. And if you need any more proof of that just notice the absolute one-to-one corrispondence of thses kinds of problems and the number of users logged on.

  17. 17 michi lumin Says:

complaining does not alter reality, nor does it expedite it.

  18. 18 Usagi Musashi Says:

Well the hardware could hold 15,000. But when we start reaching 20,000 the problem(s) started.Thats when the sky start falling.

  19. 19 Kinzo Nurmi Says:

Here, here Vincent. The Lindens understand the ultimate results of an unhappy user base, we don’t need people whining and bitching, just so they can feel rightous. I am thankful that then Lindens keep me updated on whats going on, but I am sick of the whiners, because I know as volcal as they are, the number of people happy with SL and appreciate the efforts of the Lindens far outweigh complainers.

So please, please, if you have nothing constructive to say, don’t say anything.

Lindens - the reponses to Blog posts such as this are predidicable and mostly irrelevant. Just a user suggestion, why not close repneses to these announcements?

  20. 20 Amanda Ascot Says:

Indeed, Michi … it’s funny. When I read the first post I *knew* what the next few posters were going to say. You guys are becoming sooo predictable. It’s not 20k users, people. I experienced all those problems the other day with only 16k users online. This is an issue that’s been with us a long time and has been beaten to death in the blog over and over again. And you complain that LL doesn’t respond to your knee-jerk reactionary posts. That’s so predictable, too.

Yes, server load is an issue. It will continue to be an issue until LL upgrades the server farm and, perhaps, the software running it. LL knows this. *We* know this. As Vincent said, if you don’t like playing here then quit griping and go get yourself a WOW account or something. The complaints have turned into nothing more than background noise that I’m sure Lindens just filter out. Be helpful and quit contributing noise to these threads. If you want to criticize, then offer some *constructive* criticism that we haven’t already heard. If you can’t, then the best thing for everyone involved is for you to remain silent … and go somewhere else to play.

  21. 21 Ravanne Sullivan Says:

    Vincent Nacon Says:
“If you want to help them… don’t just log on and do nothing, don’t Teleport so much, and don’t toy with your inventory other than cleaning your trash and lost & found folder.”

Actually you should just log on and do nothing as that it just ablout all that can be done without putting a load on the assest server. And when there is an assest server problem cleaning out your trash and lost and found are a great way to lose inventory.

  22. 22 Rosie Simca Says:

I appreciate all you at Linden Labs are doing. Thanks so much for the wonderful, worldwide virtual meeting ground. I love it here with all it’s ups and downs!

  23. 23 Stefano Says:

/me laughs…so its users’ fault…So i must go and play something else…So the answer is “dont log on”…Crashes, inventory problems, teleports, missing water, rezzing objects, lag, servers overloaded, total lack of stability, all this and more is my fault - cause i “toy” with SL instead of keep on saying “ohh yes LL keep on the good work”…
And Lothareal, you are fantastic: the problem is not population but a glitch or bug due to population load :)…What a coincidence we’ve been experiencing this “bug” since august…And ok Vincent, i won’t teleport so much, i won’t toy with my inventory…and i ll pay half premium next time :)

  24. 24 Gerard Eldrich Says:

Despite what everyone of you keeps saying about the bitching and complaining, well, some of us you know do rely on sl for REAL money. When it doesn’t work right, we lose this actual money. They keep saying its fixed, they keep telling us they’re going to deliver us some satisfaction, and yet we still see no results. Why the hell should the solution for this be, we’re sorry, in the meantime don’t tp as much and don’t do this, don’t do that. When is LL going to start acting like a real company and start wondering if they’re customers are happy or not? Besides, where else are we going to go? There is no other sl competitor out there. WOW is not considered a competitor I don’t believe, as it doesn’t have half the features SL allows us. So the next time you say “don’t complain” to someone, maybe take into consideration someone may be losing actual funds off of it that make a difference in life.

  25. 25 oxoc ah Says:

hey ppl its a process :)
imagine you were god and have to manage so much data :)
thx for the update and im a supporter for lifetime ….

  26. 26 Vivienne Druart Says:

Cant believe always the same bugs, why do you offer patches when the bugs arent normal bugs, but more to do with the server capacity???

  27. 27 Ravanne Sullivan Says:

To all of you who say that we should just stop complaining. Do you know what happens to a businesses custoemrs when they stop complaining? They go elsewhere and the business dies. This is a reality of RL. Custoemrs wouldn’t complain if they didn’t care and want a particular product but once they see that complaining is useless or ignored they leave and take their money with them. Bad customer service is the number one killer of businesses.

  28. 28 oxoc ah Says:

    moneys not everything

  29. 29 Musimba Says:

The problems that Jesse Linden mentions here have been very evident since the number of people online exceeded 15,000.
Logged in Last 60 Days: 1,007,488
I’ve noticed Linden Labs isn’t making a big deal about exceeding One Million like they did when Total Residents reached Two Million. Maybe they learned their lesson after that last milestone was reached?

  30. 30 Boss Melnitz Says:

Because it’s been way too long…the daily issues lament Haiku:

    Teleports, Linden$,
    My virtual nards shriveled.
    Concurrency sucks!

  31. 31 Brace Says:

Thanks Gerard - that’s exactly the problem. LL has been touting SL as a way to make RL money.

So tons of people come in to do just that. Then for some reason LL is suprised at how many people they have, and for some other reason didn’t prepare ahead of time for an increase population load.

I totally agree: The second LL starts acting like a normal company, I’d bet dollars to donuts we’d see tremendous improvements.

As it stands now, the left hand of LL has no idea what the right hand of LL is doing, and employees have free reign to pick and choose whatever tasks they want to do.

So yeah, people are really getting tired of the end results of that kind of “management”. The main problems being experienced right now have been the same (and have been going on) for years, people. YEARS.

Take the advice some have put out here on this blog: cut your losses, put your money where your mouth is, toss your premium and stay the hell out of SL until (mebbe if/when/dunno) they get their sh*t together.

  32. 32 Sylvia Sonoda Says:

I have the solution you all: I just log in.sit or better just stand somewhere on a sim with no other people. I don’t walk or fly. Specialy never over sim borders. I do not use TP, do not go into my inventory, do not built anything anymore and never, never use the teleport. I just sit or stand and IM with friends from the days SL worked. In this way I manage to keep my client from crashing (what is very hard to achieve since the last update) and I do not loose any inventory anymore(I hope, cause I do not dare to look).
Its not fun, its surviving and hoping for better times.

  33. 33 Boss Melnitz Says:

@Brace….a Haiku response to your comment:

    Yes, the left hand knows
What the right hand is doing
    It grabbed the lotion!

  34. 34 Dina Vanalten Says:

Was wondering why I showed up as the invisible woman when I logged in earlier.

  35. 35 michi lumin Says:

“Despite what everyone of you keeps saying about the bitching and complaining, well, some of us you know do rely on sl for REAL money. When it doesn’t work right, we lose this actual money. ”

That’s a choice you made, based on the risks. (Hint: I run a rather large business in SL too.) - It’s the “cost of doing business”. Every business has it. If you run a RL storefront, and for some reason the street you’re on gets shut down, you can’t recoup from the DOT. The office that I work in shut down due to snow two times in the last month. It happens. They “lost” money on that too.

Why don’t I get angry when SL has downtime that effects my business?

    1) We knew going in that it was a developing technology. There were risks. I’ve gauged my life accordingly to not have to -rely- on that income solely.

    2) Failures happen, and we know very well that Linden isn’t doing this intentionally. (Why would they?) SL is dealing with large amounts of disparate data used in a way for which there is no precedent or established system. It’s growing pains, and learning through error. I’ve been here for three years and have always recovered from these bumps. I have little doubt that this time will be any different.

    3) I don’t view sales or transactions that did not occur due to downtime as “lost”. If someone wants to transact business with you, they will. The sales we didn’t make in this period will be recovered later, because, very simply: if people want someting of yours (be it content, services, land, whatever) - the transaction will take place at another time. People are not ‘losing’ sales or business as much as it is being ‘delayed’ or ‘displaced’.

Linden Lab is fully aware of these issues, and fully aware that people are unhappy about them.

  36. 36 Gryndal Massey Says:

The TLA Factor (Teleports, Linden, and Avatars)

Not complaining, ut this is recurring enough with the growth it needs a name. Really, lighten up a bit, I feel your pain and frustraitationbut it is, after all, more of a new frontier then a solid, mature, environment.

I “ditto” michi lumin’s comments and add, it’s a choice to either be a part of the new environment and support it’s development, or just bitch about it, burn ourselves out doing so, then move on.

    Gryn

  37. 37 Slartibartfast Magicthise Says:

I don’t like all the complaining either - but once the complaining stops, you can be sure all the customers that really care are gone.

And this time you may actually be able to hear the crickets (if audio still works).

But I’m not here to complain about complaints against complainers complaining. Let me try something constructive…

I noticed I hadn’t emptied my trash in (oh, about a year or so). Would it really help the asset servers if we all emptied our trash more often? If so, maybe a MOTD every once in a while to remind us? Would there be any repercussions on the server if a lot of people “flushed the toilet” all at once?

  38. 38 Gener Says:

Well, you tell people to stop whinning, but they do spend their real money on this game. This is not the Second time Linden Lab has broken TOS. First it was on 9/8/06, an event where secondlife was hacked. Many couldn’t get in because they didn’t remember the secuirty questions and when they called Linden Lab they didn’t help them. So, residents of second life gave understanding and let Linden Lab slide, so LL owes a great deal to us. Now, this…….They say its all the unpayed accounts, but I think no one will want to pay in about a few weeks

  39. 39 Dominic Webb Says:

    Gerard,

What’s the saying about “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” ?

  40. 40 Envi Kanno Says:

    De-Ja-Vuuu…

  41. 41 Algenight Cline Says:

You know what’s actually pretty hilarious? That there are actually people here who are saying that we don’t have a right to complain. Well guess what, when you spend your REAL money–money that you worked hard for to earn–on a product that doesn’t work as promised, you HAVE a right to complain. And you also have a right to keep doing it until the product does work as intended.

Second Life, is a product that does not function as it should.

And don’t tell me I should show some understanding because I DO understand that it’s not easy to run this business. And I’m pretty sure that (most of the) employees at LL are pulling their hairs out in frustration with all these issues that keep popping up. But as a costumer, it is well within your rights to be annoyed when problems with a certain product are lasting as long as this.

  42. 42 Cappy Frantisek Says:

    Boss,

    Nice haikus….thought I’d give it a try…

    Second Life is broke
Oh what wiil we do today
    Fill blof with nonsense

    Cheers,

  43. 43 Trident Fresse Says:

For the naysayers, there’s a lovely place in-world called Nirvana located near the city of Shangri-La, while on your way there, stop in the quaint town of Paradise where the roads, weather, software and telecom network are perfect there They’ve saved a camping chair with your name on it - and when teleports come back up, think about not leaving it.

  44. 44 macs yue Says:

I dunno. I see glitches now and again, and I lose sales as well, but I know it’s temporary. My customers return if they really want to buy my stuff. We all have a right to voice what’s on our minds, too…wouldn’t want to take that away from anybody. So I won’t complain about complainers. I also understand the concern from people who lose real wages. I do too, but I don’t take that as something personal…so I don’t get personal with any suggestions I make either. The Golden Rule truly is Golden.

BTW, the sun and moon haven’t moved on my sim for a few days now.

Who says time never stands still. :)

  45. 45 Zora Spoonhammer Says:

Say, I don’t know if this is at all helpful, but from the outside
it really looks like a connectivity issue between the asset server
and the grid machines, not a hardware or code issue per se. Some
of the idiosyncrasies of script behavior are making it feel like
the asset server is “up”, but bombing its connections.

Stepping *way* out on a limb, would it help to move the teen
grid to it’s own asset server? (Assuming you haven’t done this
already.) My kids have a teen account, and I noticed a while ago
helping them script some weird behavior where UUIDs could be shared between the teen and adult grids, which was making me believe it was quite likely all of the assets for the entire world (both grids) were really stored in one giant central database. If this is true, maybe putting the kids on their own db might give you a few more connections for the main grid. Or is this impossible because of account migration issues?

  46. 46 Alexis Starbrook Says:

Screw the “investigation” , I can tell you the problem right now (24-27000 online)

Works fine at 3AM in the morning when only the 13,000 camp leechers are on until about 9AM when the stampede starts.

But I just love being a sucker and paying US$40 a month for a system that only works right 4 to 5 hours a day (sarcastic smirk)

My “thank you for your patience” is pretty well fried you can most likey tell after putting up with this crap for the last month.

    Have a Nice Day.

  47. 47 Talthybius Brevity Says:

I’m just impressed that the grid made it through the weekend with only the typical annoyances: severe lag, high packet loss, intermittent problems with rez, TP and search.

Still, when the grid is back on its feet from the current epileptic fit, the comm monkey of the week will post that the problems have been “RESOLVED” when we all know the problems haven’t been resolved, its just that the symptoms will have subsided temporarily until the next fit.

“Chu keep jusing dat word. I don’t think it means whatchu think it means.”

And so it will continue until the SL is rewritten to communicate more efficiently with the DB. Later, Rinse, Repeat.

  48. 48 Alexis Starbrook Says:

Of course, Some will say (the FAN-BOY PM I have gotten), “Well don’t pay then..LEAVE!”

Oh yes, just blow of a large investment I made due to LL’s SPIN on SL. I’ll keep paying, you can just keep ripping me off.

    Its such FUN!

  49. 49 Ernst Gort Says:

So am I the only person who is unable to log in? It keeps telling me to check the status after I wait for three minutes.

  50. 50 Alexander Regent Says:

Maybe they could write a script to auto post the same “thank you for your patience” message…might give some extra time to fix the problems :)

  51. 51 Scissor Lemmon Says:

Go placidly amid the noise and the virtual haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all avatars.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive avatars;
they are vexatious to the bandwidth.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter and rezz less quickly,
for always there will be greater and lesser avatars than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your prims.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of SL time.

Exercise caution in your Linden Dollar affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere SL life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love or grid development,
for in the face of all aridity, disenchantment missing inventory,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the mods,
gracefully surrendering the things of noobie youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden crashes.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the SL universe
    no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with Mr Linden,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of second life,
    keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

  53. 53 Melanie Says:

Another thing that is broken. If I use About Land to “view” non-group items….. it returns them. I did not select “return.”

  54. 54 Neural Says:

I generally haven’t been having the login issues that some are speaking of.
Logging *out* however seems to be a different story. Now, this I’m not complaining about, it is just an observation, but it does seem to take a bit longer to log out these days. This is one problem I can actually laugh at, but I still find it interesting also.

  55. 55 Bothrops Says:

I love all the gloom and doom comments vomiting the certainties that if this continues there’ll be nobody left in SL to even notice the problems. Haven’t we heard this before? Let’s see….over 23,000 currently on line, compared to how many last month? The month before?

Let’s face it people - something’s working here to keep people coming back. You’re free to leave if you can’t deal with the growing pains. When you get down to it these are just computers: I have yet to see a problem-free computer, much less a network of thousands of problem-free computers. These problems are no surprise. Kudos to LL for staying on top of them as they appear.

So meanwhile I’ll be sticking around (sometimes patiently) and will expect to be continually amazed by what people can do in SL.

  56. 56 Chronic Skronski Says:

To those of you who continue to scream that all problems are due to (insert latest number here) people being online at one time, please do help us out by reducing it by one. Be proactive. You know, part of the solution instead of part of the problem. :)

Posting the same complaint blog after blog after blog - exactly what is it that you think you are accomplishing?

  57. 57 Rose Mackie Says:

I’d rather get caught up on my laundry when SL is having problems than play WoW, go to THERE or ACTIVE WORLDS, or any of the other VR environments.

And if you rely on SL to make RL money, honey, I’ve got some swampland and a bridge for sale.

  58. 58 JD Says:

    Lindens and fellow netizens,
What I worry about is the ‘NEW’ people coming in for their ‘first’ experience in Second Life. I remember back in May of 2006 when I first started using Second Life the grid was running much much better than the last month. Alot of bugs have been introduced in updates in the last months. But, as a new user comes in for the first time… Im afraid we may ‘loose’ people that arent willing to put up with the bugs and issues we are currently having. I know that 80% of people that encounter these issues time and time again will probably sign out and not return because of being turned off by the first experience. Its important that we keep the Second Life ‘viewer application’ running as smooth as possible. Im not a programmer or a IT person, but thats my two cents on a normal users reaction to the bugs.

Lets keep all the new users we can as residents! ! !

Keep the updates simple and streamlined, lets not try to do too much at once.

  59. 59 Phoenixa Sol Says:

I just cant buy the “over 25,000 playing” excuse. I play Runescape too, they have over 200,000 people playing sometimes, spread out 2,000 per world on over 130 worlds, servers in different parts of the globe. They’ve opened many new worlds since I’d first started playing it in 2005, as their member base grows. Each member world a carbon copy of the others, each non member world… a carbon copy of the other non member worlds.

Granted, the graphics leave everything to be desired, it’s not the same type of virtual experience, and it’s not as complex as SL, but it is operational almost all the time.

  60. 60 Rascal Ratelle Says:

every time there is 20k+ logged in there are issues. Every time that number is reduced to below 20K the issues are resolved. This has become a regular cycle here.
I think it’s time for a major up grade. it’s obvious the current system can’t handle the heavy load of 20K+ logged in.

  62. 62 Niles Ducasse Says:

    Hey guys ,

I thought that it was just a problem with my Intel Imac as it often has problems with software. It looks like glitches to me.
Lets tip our hats to the men in white overcoats and wish them success in sorting it all out.
Even if it takes a while it will be worth it if the end product is glitch & bug free.

  63. 63 Amanda Ascot Says:

Rather than single any person out, I’ll just address a point that a number of you have made. Here’s a basic fact of Second Life. Complaining on the blog accomplishes *exactly nothing* but making you look like whiners. You always turn an informational thread into a total bitch fest, and then wonder why no Linden ever stops in here to read it and respond.

OK, you have a right to complain — *BUT* you are breaking “the rules” by nudging each and every blog thread off topic. This even goes for threads which are intended to be informative and even interactive about technical details. You keep rehashing the same old, moldy complaints, and then complain that LL isn’t listening to your complaints. They did … at one time … until 90% of blog comments started being nothing but recycled garbage. Remember the story about the boy who cried “wolf”?

If you want to complain then do it on the proper channels and help keep the blog “clean” and on-topic for those of us who actually come here to learn something new. Better yet, form a new group, “SL Whiners”, and IM each other to your hearts’ content. Or even better, form a new 12-step program group “Second Lifers Anonymous” and get a real First Life, instead.

Alexis, I *will* address your last question. When I’m at home with my cable connection and good computer I get pretty good results in SL, even with 25,000 people online. When I’m at work at midnight or 2AM with a flaky internet connection and a less capable computer, and 14 or 15 thousand users online I have loads of problems. Think about it.

To continue to beat a dead horse:
“As soon as enough people get fed up with not being able to do anything and leave LL will declare the problem “Resolved!!!”” [Post 16]

The game has been around since, longer then 2003… Sadly, no one is going to take a hint, they will keep adding money in, because the people that mange to make money in SL and RL off of SL, will keep on keeping on, lag, delays, crashes, etc…

    It’s like The whole cycle of things in RL… Without Crime, you have no Crime Enforcement, Without Crime Enforcement there is no safety for the people, without Safety for the people, we have a lot of… {sorry, I lost my train of thought… What we’re we complaing about?}

oh yeah, not continuing with SL… I pay every 3 months, 9.99 a month, I think… That money must be going somewhere? Oh yeah, for all the expensive lunch breaks… I suppose I could be sending my 9.99 a month to starving kids in Foreign Countries?

errr, keep kicking the dead horse, it gives us something to babble about. =o )

  65. 65 Sly Antfarm Says:

  66. 66 Mikeey Garfield Says:

ok, enough is enough. i’m usually one of thoses who sticks up for LL an SL. not anymore. i was added into a private parcel, then as i tried to tp into it i somehow disappeared off the list and sl mananged to reset my computer, when i restart i find myself wedged inbetween 2 no access parcels unable to move. i have tried for the last 20 mins to tp away, every single bloody one of them has failed. sort it, now.

  67. 67 AllieKat Says:

if any of you “IT Professionals” out there even fathomed the depth of this program you would be happy to have what you hace. this is so complex that it is amost impossible to debug it completely. it doesnt matter how many updates/upgrades. the issues with concurrency more than likely is in the setup of the pipelines. they are working on a new setup as we speak. get off their back. everthing you are all whining about, are known issues. the new ideals they have may fix it, may not. but if you dont like it, There.com needs residents, maybe you can go complain there about SL… not that anyone there would care.

  68. 68 Usagi Musashi Says:

  70. 70 neb Svarog Says:

One thing made me smile today, Dina Vanalten showing up as an invisible woman ;-)

LL opened the floodgate without the infrastructure in place to handle the load, so now it is down to firefighting. The techies are catching up, but not fast enough. SL can handle way more logged on residents than it could this time last year, but not as many as do log on, and if SL continues to grow at this rate, LL will not be able to catch up without some fundamental reworking of either the software or hardware or both. They know this, they are not reading this blog and being shocked by the reactions. We are just blowing off steam here. LL will not do anything different because of a few upset blog posters.

  71. 71 Musicteacher Rampal Says:

Its the same people because were here trying to make a freaking difference. Were here trying to get freaking LL to actually listen since they dont seem to understand anything else anyways. We post here with a hopeful chance one of them will look at it and go “gee, you know, these are actual people were taking money from.. maybe we should consider them.” We’re supposed to be able to express our ideas around here, INCLUDING the ones about how they are not and have not been providing a stable product for a while and that people are losing money. Its alot more productive for us to state our concerns than for the rest of you to bash us for doing it.

I am trapped somewhere on the bottom of the ocean, and not amused.

I was planing on investing a lot of money in SL land, but to be honest, with the way the system is performing, i have to ask myself if I would be just throwing in to an empty pit.

I know LL had this kind on loading in their planing, and maybe the day arrived sooner than expected, but if you want people like me to invest in SL, you have to make it work.

I love SL, but you will have to invest in your own product (so it works) if you expect others to do the same,

Please spend the money to make this work.

  81. 81 Chris Senior Says:

I’ve been having tp problems for weeks now. But strangely enough, my TP problems were lessened when I logged on earlier this evening. I only visited one sim I couldn’t tp out of tonight.

As for emptying trash, my Lost and Found Folder is far more cluttered than my Trash is. Maybe in the future we could have an option to click the Lost and Found Folder an empty the entire thing at once like you can do with the Trash?

  83. 83 NewYorkCityDJ Cremorne Says:

I know people have more problems now but this can be easy to fix ..the truth is sl needs to investigate and talk to ur interns, and groups like hackers, technical and past old gourps that have died but still run.now the best thing about it is u guys have more ways to learn and fix this problem. alot of web chats love this chance to fix there web site but they can’t but u can.u have more advantage in this. use it dont lose it …

  84. 84 EnCore Mayne Says:

i’m a relative newbie to sl. i can only imagine the furious level of activity within the lab in the last little while. keep at it. here’s hoping all us residents expend our energies into the right channels. i figure complaining and helpful bug resolutions are two distinct realms. this is one. inworld it’s Tools>Report Bug…and then (1. Steps to reproduce the bug:, 2.Observed results:, 3.Expected results:). it’s up to all of us where we put our help.

  85. 85 Stephanie Lemaire Says:

Yes we are complaining and rightly so I pay $75 US from Australia for my land which I cant use, I damn well have a right to complain.

IT is about time Lindens stop allowing new members and fix what they have already fixing stupid little problems that dont mean anything in the scheme of things. To me it seems as asual the companies is only concerned about how much money can be milked from the people who choose to keep waiting. Quality assurance there is no quality. I have also been stupid enough to pay my membership for a whole year, maybe more fool me but Lindens are advertising this secondlife but ignoring their customers. I for one will be speaking to my lawyers soon about getting the money I have invested back if this situation is not retified soon.

Customer service does not exist as far as I can tell. Just the grab for the big bucks. Get it together start listening to your customers Lindenlab.

I see membersip growing and growing and what the hell for. Honestly.

Also these blogs that are supposed to help us are doing nothing unless you have the computer IT experience to understand it the posts from the Lindens sem to be mostly developer based. Well say it in lanuage that the lay person can understand.

Patience running real thin. I have on many occasions suggested people be patient but I am finding it almost impossible to be patient now my business is useless now no one can do anything on the maingrid.

All I hear now from people is Lindenlab don’t care about the main grid just the islands, well Lindens proove us wrong.
