Database Issues Resolved

At this time, we believe we have resolved these issues…. 

Residents may be experiencing failed teleports, ability to change appearence, viewing profiles, and searching for land sales. We are currently investigating these issues and will have an update shortly. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work quickly to resolve this matter.

    Please put all feature upgrades, tool upgrades, and bug fixes on hold until you can make the grid can handle 20,000 concurrent users without throwing up all over itself…

    Alright thanks for the update, getting realy annoying to login and see that I cant go anywhere cause no map/teleporting, or even seeing myself as a female in firstlook cause no clothing downloaded or something. hope you guys fix shortly, for now I guess I will need to get some fresh air and see to my meaningless first life ^.^

    Client crashed twice now attempting to rename an item in Inventory. Part of inventory seems missing. If you’re doing something terribly important, it may be a good idea to hold off on messing with your inventory - at least until the database no longer has issues.

    Yep I have had a problem w/all these listed above plus missing a lot of my inventory!!! Grrrrrrr! I cant tp no where even after detaching all, I’ll drop a folder on myself to load and it wont load, cant see profiles, landmarks, or themselves for that matter etc…and also some of my friends are having a hard time logging in!! Cmon Linden get it together now! Yall just had an update on both clients. Shouldnt be these kinda problems!! lol

    FYI - before you waste any further time searching for the cause - it’s the Asshat server - as usual.

    And having just logged out because I can’t actually DO anything in SL, as usual at the weekend, I’m getting an early night.

    Fri-Sun off because of DB load/Asshat server issues, Wed off for updates - I’m paying for an island 24/7 and getting to use it 3 days a week in a good week.

    Something not right there, can’t quite put my finger on it… Never mind, I’m sure it’ll come to me - possibly when my next tier payment’s due!

    To reiterate what harald nomad said, if you were working on something just stay put, (not that theres a choice in the matter) and wait for an all clear before trying to do anything with your builds or inventories. No sense in loosing items, or wasting your time editing things when there is such an issue at hand.

    Indeed. Is it unrealistic to expect reliability to improve with an update? I love SL but the repeated glithces are getting frustrating. Due to SL’s popularity, even though it is not reliable, I forsee stiff competition stealing their customers in the near future.
    Does anyone know if financial data is available on SL & Linden Labs. I want to know if they are making more money from all the new residents, while letting service decline. See y’all in world!

    now this is funny i was just told by live help that all our items are safe pfft our items are NEVER safe i have huge box in inventory i cannot rez lost from database and 100s of items lost and never been replaces and no ones ever contacted me from the bug reports i have files i even added my name to a list torley was taking NEVER been contated about that either and NONE of the items have been returned now live help is posting messages that our items are safe that just make me sick go ahead and give everyone false information that just adds to all the crap lately

Lindens I empathise with the fact that you’re doing a tough job but I seriously think that if I were one of you I would be just about ready to throttle whoever is controlling your budgets right now.     Yeah, they will bang on things. as usual. Am now since 15 minutes online, naked (attached prim clothing does not rez), no money, no tp, no search, nothing. Good that I started at my home location.
    Maybe they can spare us with unnecessary updates, which dont bring any improvement but mae things worse.
    And I do remember a blog-entry, where they said “soon, we will be able to update without taking the grid down” - when will that happen?
    Wednesday will be off day again, lets make a bet. They will announce 7-12 am, it will take longer, things will get worse.

    Lindens, maybe you refund each paying participant the money for the trouble days. Lets simply say: each day, where there is a blog entry about trouble in SL, the day is free.

    Give it a thought. Then you still did not refund those who are really loosing money because customers can not tp to the sims where the shops are.

    It’s the same after every single client update. Problem after problem after problem. Then after some time, issues finally get resolved and everything will appear to be running fairly smoothly.

    But it doesn’t last long becuase then it’s time for a new update and the process repeats.

    How about add not being able to log in either when the viewer still says online and so does the grid status. And hour before that it started going slow. On a relog I knew it was coming. The precaching took forever and then the dreaded Downloading Clothing bar. THats funny to cause it says u appear in world normally. Pffffff. I couldnt see me but those I knew could and I appeared as a newb skined female. Im male and my skins from made men. Fix this peice of crap already.

    *little hint: Fix the workarounds before you update again. Mabye that might not make sense to LL but everyone here knows what im talkin about.

    Seriously, all these things are known to us after an update (any update since I am in SL - Nov 7 2007 - but accordingly to older residents, long before that).
    We all understand a database this big means problems, but hey look at Google - dont they got problems? Sure they do! Sometimes I log in to a Google server and it is down (for about 5 mins).

    You must consider this:
    Go professional or sell. Stop being Amateurs.

    I’m pretty dissapointed in LindenLabs as a company, it just happens too often and a game like this really needs to be stable. Bragging to have over 2 million accounts and not even able to to maintain a stable game for only 25000 poeple, is not good. I don’t mind abit of lag but these ‘issues’ make the game harder to like.

    Ya know it seems as if there are more then 20k residents on the server it gets like this. You would thing the “great” people at linden labs would use multiple servers for this specially during peak hours and days. I am not computer scientist however, I am fairly positive that if they would spend some of the money we “residents” pay for missing bodies, lost inventory, and holy cow GRID DOWN!, on more intelligent programmers and better software…sl would be a better place to be.

    As I just told my partner from the private island I bought a few months ago — to have some peace and building freedom, as well as to avoid things like constant lag, performance issues because of too many unpaid accounts glutting up places and the occasional griefer-related attack drama — that we were currently now once again stuck on with no inventory and all the other wonderful dysfunctions people have reported for the umpteenth time in so many months we’ve been in SL:

    I’ve done alot of beta testing in my past, and so far this is the first time I’ve had to pay to do it, not to mention the fact that this is the OLDEST beta in existence, and the least stable. Same problems all the time, same excuses, same ‘Everything’s fixed again’ messages, then the same break downs again. Is there ANYONE at all working for LL that has the balls to step forward and admit that the plug needs to be pulled? It’s bad enough that we’re paying to develop their world for them, but even worse that they can’t even keep that world running. Don’t they realize they actually have to do less work than the developers of ANY other game in existence, yet they still get paid almost the same monthly amounts?
    Luckily I’m not one of the fanbois, I’ll tell it like it is; LL is incompetent, slow to react, non-helpful, and worthless…. and that’s just the ’support’ part of the company. Hopefully they decide to either sell this project to someone that knows how to code and can run a server farm, or they pull the plug and stop sucking up peoples money.

    Yeah, that’s the tag EVERY time this same situation repeats itself. Here’ s a clue…many, if not most, have neither left. What’s appalling is that at some point (probably after turning off login’s, etc. to reduce load or people just say the heck with it) they’ll come back and say “we’ve found the cause of the problem, and things should be returning back to normal” (which, btw, normal seems to be crappy). When in reality, the same issues occur EVERY weekend, you can pretty much say they haven’t found or done a darn thing to fix it other than reduce the load down and then pretend there is no problem again. I’m figuring on what…this is like the 6th weekend in a row we can expect SL to be useless off and on throughout the entire weekend?

    They really need to add more servers. Runescape and Sherwood Dungeon at http://www.maidmarian.com have a bunch of servers so it doesn’t get laggy whatsoever. Please add different servers.

    No body, no lindens, no ability to place anything anywhere. Face it, guys…there are TOO MANY ACCOUNTS trying to access SL at the same time, and it’s causing crashes.

    PLEASE STOP NEW FREE ACCOUNTS. We’re getting flooded with noobs, and the system isn’t stable enough to support the glut. Then go out and buy new servers, ok? You need probably half again the number of servers you already have, to support the added population.

    This update is worse then BEFORE the Jan 17 release .2. I know Liden Labs created a whole bunch ot bug fixes but now the system is even more unstable, crashing, and slow; not to mention the menu clitches and a sense of dread everytime I need to change something on my AV or to teleport. This is not what I suppost to be paying for monthly.

    The problem is at the moment the asset server and that is centralized its not meant to scale at a huge rate and cant really expect it to. They need to switch it and split it up between some kind of cluster system that can handle more scalability. Simply put it cant take going at 15,000 on average to close to 22k it just doesnt like it.

    Well tried to log on and was told can’t log in till 3 minuteslater. I wait the alotted time and am told i have to wait 3-5 more minutes. Since I have been on sl it seems that there have been more bad days then good. Those of us that spend alot of money on here are getting upset. Matbe you should think about a discount to members or something that will make members want to stay with Secondlife.

    The SL blog - the Holy Grail of all that is true and wise….the place we all flock to out of pure frustration to try and seek an explanation why day after agonising day we can’t build, can’t tp and sometimes can’t even rezz. We are taught by Second Life that this wonderful virtual world is the place we can live a whole second life, unrestrained from the various tiebacks we all suffer in ‘real life’. Yet here I am sitting in my real life - I can still walk around without looking like a movie in slow motion, I can wear a piece of clothing without having it attach, for no particular reason, to a random part of my body..and if i wear it I know it won’t suddenly vanish half way through a shopping trip, leaving me either stark naked in the middle of a mall or wearing the by now famous ‘cow print’ (image not rezzed) PJ’s. In real life I can look at a lake without it mysteriously vanishing in front of me and hold a conversation without finding that I’ve actually crashed half an hour ago and have been talking to myself all that time…I could go on…
    Second Life delivered so much of its promises, it built an economy and encouraged us to build and sell items, which some of us take a lot of time and care over - we buy items and invest real money only to have items vanish from our inventory - the question is who cares?…the answer is sad..no one it seems. The most we can expect with these constant issues, as we sit tearing our hair out and swearing at the computer, is a patronising responce from a Linden that ends..”thanks for your patience’…what patience? do we actually have a choice?
    Please Lindens stop patronising and start listening - you have so many hurt, angry and frustrated people out here - real people that you have encouraged to live in this world - it can’t go on like this. Don’t thank us for our patience - fix the issues or offer refunds - let us see you’re not just there to talk and tell us it will be fixed soon, we’re all so tired of it - put your money where your mouth is for once, lets see if you actually come up with something good.

    Is it only me that can see that lindens servers cant cope with the extra bodys.

    And that the only sollution in progress is to squeeze functioning aspects of our service for every bit of bandwidth. Surely you guys can afford better assets ie, servers, etc.

    I love SL but this is costing me alot of time and money, not to mention some sanity.

    Why does the bandwidth slider go to 1500 kbps, that sounds dubious event to a person with limited IT knowledge.

    Anyway thanks for a great concept in online socialing, gaming and business, but please take us more seriously.

    Example getting teleported for reason while typing or drop down menues opening up mid sentance. I hope this one gets fixed. Time to sit back and hope for the best :)

    Yes, tis quite annoying.. Normally I would say ‘Oh well, you get what you pay for’.. But I forgot about all the people paying thousands of dollars. When people are paying THAT much, you should make sure the product is at the very least satisfactory. I figured an update would actually solve some problems, but the last update didn’t even address any really. It was just all small stuff. I still have to dettach all of my prim objects just to be able to teleport.. But now, as stated a million times above, it takes me 10 minutes just to log in, invisible.. Can’t attach prim objects, can’t tp.. Can’t even scratch my own butt.

    I have far too many friends and to much time invested in SL to give up on it now.. But at this point its more like ‘I love SL but don’t like it’.

    Congrats, LL.. You’ve become my grandmother.

    I am amazed at all the complaints. I work on a computer at work and I know at least 3-4 times a week our server is rebooted. There are only 4 people on our server! I can’t imagine what it takes to run a system with over 2 million users and 20,000 active users at any given time. I get frustrated sometimes in SL but remember it is a game. Evenutally the bugs will be worked out. Can you imagine having to add a new user to your service/system/server every few minutes? I can only imagine the havoc that would wreak. Please try to be patient with LL obviously there is something in SL we all enjoy. Let’s give them room to fix the bugs.

    I’m pretty surprised by LL … where I was one to complain as soon as I was interupted in my doings in SL I now see real improvement!

    - Blog updates are far more accurate and answer what needs to be answered.
    - Blog gives far more insight into problems if such arise.
    - Ingame I notice a priority in functionality shutdown which seems to ensure normal game play while bugs are being fixed and the grid can stay online.

    Etcetera …

    All in all I like the way SL is going now. It’s still far from perfect but the right steps (imo) have been taken to ensure good gaming and I’m damn sure the customer service has undergone some serious reprogramming ^^ Don’t forget that SL grew over 200% in the last year … it must be hell to keep up. ;)

    strange… i logged out about half an hour ago, and have been trying every 5-10 minutes to log back on, only to be told that the ’system is logging you out’ STILL?! honestly… i can’t even get ON sl to see these glitches…

    i logged off because i was having trouble uploading a couple textures, hopping that by some miracle THAT might fix the problem…

    i agree with what was said above, however, as soon as some reasonable compition joins in, allot of us are going to abandon sl and look for a more stable grid… i don’t know whether it’s lack of budget to certain departments, or lack of staff, but it’s becoming a real problem inworld

    when i first started playing sl i crashed maybe once a week… now, now i’m crashing at LEAST 7-10 times a day. mostly from trying to play animaitons, or turning my camera around too quickly; heck! sometimes i crash just because i CAN

    I have a word of advice For you LL dont do anymore official PR work till you can scale things if this is going to happen a big thing with the french just happened and brought in a huge influx of people and constant news while good for getting SL’s name out there doesnt help the situation in world any. We cant take a ton of new people signing up at this type of rate and neither can you =/

    I agree that Free Accounts has to stop. There’s too many people with too much money and time invested in this game, for noobs who don’t want to spend any money and collect it from others. It’s the people who spend the real money who keep the game afloat. Brag all you want about 2 Million + but at least 3/4 of the popular if not half has more than one account. Fix the real problems!!!!! I have more time on the weekends to play and it’s always chaos. Feel like chucking my entire pc and Linden Labs front steps.

    It appears to me that once again you have made things terribly worse with your update, hey hears a thought why not do an update every wednsday…..and i agree with the ppl in this comment area, why not for everytime the search is down, you cant teleport, cant build things and cant get into your inventory without fearing the worse you give us paying ppl a free day…..

    No body, no lindens, no ability to place anything anywhere. Face it, guys…there are TOO MANY ACCOUNTS trying to access SL at the same time, and it’s causing crashes.

    PLEASE STOP NEW FREE ACCOUNTS. We’re getting flooded with noobs, and the system isn’t stable enough to support the glut. Then go out and buy new servers, ok? You need probably half again the number of servers you already have, to support the added population.
