Second Life v1.13.2 - Known Issues, Repros and Workarounds
Friday, January 19th, 2007 at 11:30 AM by: Jesse LindenHere is a current list of issues you may be experiencing with the new release. We will keep you updated as soon as we have more news and information regarding these issues and their resolution.
[UPDATED 5:22pmPST 01/19/07 - These two issues should be addressed by the Optional Viewer posted this evening]
* Edit > Focus tool doesn’t update the UI
When the Edit floater is shown (e.g. Right-click Edit, or Build in the toolbar), if the Focus tool is selected manually or as the default command, the controls in the rest of the floater do not update correctly. We will correct this in an upcoming viewer release.
Repro:
- Click Build, then click Focus, then click More >> – nothing is shown
- Click Move, then click Focus, then click Less – ghosted controls appear on screen
Workarounds:
- Use the Alt key and mouse as normal to control object focus
- Click on other Edit tool options to correct the UI
* ‘Buy Pass’ in the pie menu is only enabled appears if the access list for avatars is enabled. We will correct this in an upcoming viewer release.
Repro:
- Limit access on a Parcel to a group, and enable “Sell passes allowing temporary access”. The right-click menu option will not be enabled.
Other ongoing Issues:
1) Login crash issue detected
We have determined that some video card / video driver combinations will crash on login if the “Bump Mapped & Cloth” preference is enabled. We will fix this crash soon. In the meantime, the workaround is to either change Edit menu > Preferences > Graphic Detail > Avatar Rendering to “Bump Mapped”, or to turn off Client menu > Rendering > Use VBO.
[UPDATE 01/19/07 - 11:28am PST]
It turns out this is caused by having run the First Look viewer (which sets an option in settings.xml) then switching back to the normal viewer (which has buggy support for that option). The fix is: (1) delete your settings files or (2) switch back to the new First Look viewer
2) The full scale map image is not displaying correctly
In the ‘Map’ floater, if you zoom out comletely such that individual regions disappear, you will not see the normal large-scale map display. We realize that this is a critical issue for residents. However, we did not feel that it was necessary to keep the grid closed while we worked to resolve this. We believe we will be able to fix this fairly quickly with a server update; most likely within the next day or two.
Workaround:
- Zoom in to a smaller scale using the Map tool so that the Regions are visible.
3) Tools > Recompiling Scripts in selection no longer functions
A change to the message system intentionally removed some object IDs from messages which prevent this command from working. This was done for security reasons although it was not the intention to break this command. However, this command is only necessary when changes to the LSL system have been made and there haven’t been any in quite some time. We will plan to remove this option in an upcoming
release.
Workarounds:
- Tools > Use Reset Scripts in Selection instead (which has the same effect if the scripts haven’t changed)
- Use Edit and recompile scripts individually

Attaching items from inventory, such as clothing, hair, etc.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:30 PM
I’m experiencing also problems when I try to upload an image.
It causes the viewer to crash, always. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll fix everything soon. Good work guys
January 17th, 2007 at 5:31 PM
Why do I get the message that the system is logging me out, and that I have to wait for 5 minutes to login again?
Is it because the viewer crashed, and it didn’t have time to tell servers that it crashed. If that is true, does it mean other users can still see me in world until i try to log in?
January 17th, 2007 at 5:32 PM
god logged off during tp…three times so far
January 17th, 2007 at 5:34 PM
oh, before I posted in this blog, I also posted in “Second Life 1.13.2 is now open to all Residents- enjoy!” the following:
“I was on SWT(sandbox weapons testing) and the viewer just crashed, also it takes forever to save scripts, and if scripts change textures for a prism the only thing I see, is a gray box:(
Oh and when I tried to put objects into my inventory, nothing happened. Although after I reloged I found those objects in the inventory.
But, I hear people talking and i don’t see them. Sometimes after about one hour i finally see them.”
January 17th, 2007 at 5:34 PM
I logged a few times….fromthe viewer crashing.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:35 PM
I’ve never had a problem downloading a new release, but I am today…very slow, then it freezes…any suggestions?
January 17th, 2007 at 5:36 PM
having issues with SL freezing and not responding, have had to relog in 5 times. Lots of lag. is this related to bugs in the program or with the other problems that you all had?

i figured i could continue work on my avatars after waiting hours for SL to be updated, and now i can’t upload images to be able to work… i hope this gets fixed soon, its really bumming me out.

This is happening to me. I can’t even get on.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:37 PM
“If that is true, does it mean other users can still see me in world until i try to log in?”
Absolutely!
And I have also been told, that the avi’s actually come back on, while our humans sleep.
I’m sure your first statement is prbly correct.

@ REX:
It happens sometimes that some AVs doesn’t show up even them are next to you. But there is a little trick you can do: Go in Groups menù and change your active group to another one: all invisible AVs will magically appear
January 17th, 2007 at 5:39 PM
no attachments taking forever to save scripts. objects inventory not saving, i had to redo a gun i just made because it reverted back to before i changed it. pants not loading. the decsion to change the W,A,S,D buttons to toolbar shourtcuts was really not needed and messes up alot. add to that text not appearing on time scripts reverting after saving and everything else. i think linden should work on what is wrong with sl and the assets before they change the UI

Ditto, ‘viewer’ program freezing, not server related, a new bug with AMD dual cores?. keeps happening randomly.
Also can’t upload any images, either via file menu or snapshot, just says ‘cannot upload, server experiencing technical difficulties’
January 17th, 2007 at 5:42 PM
I Installed the SW today the first time. It crashes right after start without any useful error message. I am disappointed, this is worse than Microsoft. If you don´t give any more information I see no way to get going with this.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:43 PM
Transfer speed drops down 2-10 kbps, moving doesn’t work, invetory cramps up, delayed chat, crashes every couple of minutes. Same ol’ stuff - I know it’s not problem at my end, been using SL about 7 months and these past 2 days have been only ones for me with craploads of crashing and failing.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:49 PM
I really wish new versions of SL wouldn’t need workarounds. I wish they’d be fixed with new releases. Like the water issue, like losing attachments when you teleport places, like weird looking pants. The sad thing is, that these workaround will probably remain in the next update just like the water workaround is still here even though SL has released two updates since the issue presented it self.
Pretty soon we’ll need to make a note card with a reminder of all the workarounds to assure ourselves that our SL experience will be what it’s suppose to be.
It’s sad to see new things being added, and real issues not being addressed. Yes, having to click on things to make my water show is an issue, and having to attach everything more than once is also an issue. Are the real issues ever going to be addressed?
January 17th, 2007 at 5:50 PM
Nothing new with these amd freezes are you turning off one core?.
As I said i have the same cpu and memory are you over clocking the 4400 110watt cpu? too high?!
January 17th, 2007 at 5:50 PM
Lots and lots of lag, freezing up, unable to build, lost items from inventory, delayed chat. This is very frustrating and the past few days, especially today, has not made for an enjoyable time spent in Second Life, so much so that I have given up and logged out.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:53 PM
RECOMPILE SCRIPTS IN SELECTION IS NECESSARY
It’s a workaround, but one that works when nothing else does.
There are times when it’s the only way to get the contents of an object to show up. If you’re going to get rid of it, then replace it with something like “refresh object”.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:56 PM
oh yea like we need need more ways for the coders to screw up the client with reset ways.No thank you!

“Here is a current list of issues you may be experiencing with the new release”
Great! I am sure there will be a lot more issues too. And then hours and hours of down time while they try to fix it. Another great update!
Question. I have been on SL a year now. There was an update every Wednesday and then every other Wednesday. I can’t think of one update that did not cause problems, down time, players losing money. In that year has there been any real improvement made to the game?
January 17th, 2007 at 6:10 PM
Floors and ceilings do not show, viewer crashes randomly, teleporting does not work
January 17th, 2007 at 6:15 PM
does anyone else have the problem with the folders in your inventory not closing they just open back up causing you to do alot of scrolling to get to what you need, if so when did this start?
January 17th, 2007 at 6:16 PM
Still no fix for the estate water display bug. I don’t even see it on the list of problems anywhere. When people go to Svarga they think it’s some kind of odd desert. Newbies DO NOT know the workaround of opening the estate menu. Please fix this. It’s been broken for many weeks and several updates and it makes many places ugly.

January 17th, 2007 at 6:18 PM
We have lights that work, flexi prims, and HTTPRequest.
That’s all I can think of that really matters, that we didn’t have a year ago. HTTPRequest is a big one, the other ones are just eye candy.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:19 PM
Nothing new with updates hun..its normal to have them even when i was hatched back in 2004. Thats no tthe issue or problem. Problem is the coder don`t either do load test or just just screw up the coding. Sooner or later we jave it fixed right. Until then well we can count all the alts in the game.

Yes i notice people are having a TP problem i also can not TP any where
I only get loged out the best thing to do for now is to set a start location and hope that it will work.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:24 PM
The Mac client is unstable. I’m sending crash reports every 10 minutes.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:30 PM
“I can’t think of one update that did not cause problems, down time, players losing money. In that year has there been any real improvement made to the game?” - Rawmeat Cleaver
I’ve been on for almost a year. Yes, the game has improved greatly. It is easy to ignore the good and concentrate on the bad, but it gives me a stomach ache to feel angry all the time so I look for the good.
This might not be the best place to report bugs in 13.2. I appreciate reading about the new bugs here, but the reports might get quicker attention as bug reports.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Well, have to agree, same old stuff, same old problems, but hey a wacky looking new blog, and soon website…. wow
Crashing so often, obviously not fixed the memory leak on the Mac version, inv is being slooowwwwww, takes ten attempts to rez anything, and this is with “just” 20k load. However, tp’s are working, so far….
January 17th, 2007 at 6:31 PM
18 crashes in a row. Best uptime for me, 4 minutes.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:32 PM

January 17th, 2007 at 6:40 PM
thanks everybody, but i crashed again.
It seems that if u are attacked with a texture spammer(something that keeps on giving u big textures) u crash.
When I relog i will try to change the active group, but there is a scripted object that can make u invisible(even a radar can’t see u)
January 17th, 2007 at 6:43 PM
I agree with Usagi
Damn glad we have a pretty blog
Something to look at while I continue to try to log in
January 17th, 2007 at 6:48 PM
Nice patch! I’m loving the viewer crashes, stuck animations, STILL slow load times, etc. I’m soooo glad you guys had all that extra time to make this blog so goddamned pretty. Way to prioritize! Gimme my money back.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:50 PM
OH! and another thing. Why do we even have a cache if it doesn’t actually cace anything? I can login to the exact same place, not move or change views, logout, then come back… and it takes even LONGER to rez than the time before that. Explain this to me in detail as this is NOT the way a cache is supposed to work.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:51 PM
ok I am sim admin andi am having problems cleaning up junk prims and stuff, it has at one point today taken me 5 mins. of repeated clcik on an object to get its edit info up so i can see who made it etc etc
it seems to take normaly 2 or 3 clicks with this new client
January 17th, 2007 at 6:52 PM

Im having issues with not being able to teleport to landmarks I have made is anyone else having this issues??

Every time i log on it says i need to download the new program (which I already have). If I do, it will then say I already have the new program - if I don’t I am given the option of cancelling and not being able to log on.
I have to uninstall and then reinstall the program and log in right away in order to use : ( Then the next time i have to do this again.

Wait, wait wait!!! I think I’ve finally figured it out!!! When LL tells us they fix something, they’re hoping that it’ll work like a placebo. They don’t know HOW to fix anything, so they tell us they did and get all the fanbois all happy and jumping on the people that don’t believe it. Then LL goes back into hiding and ignoring their paying customers as per the usual methods. This is becoming the world’s least trustworthy development staff… still just barely behind John Romeros….
January 17th, 2007 at 7:01 PM
ok one more complaint why is it when I get IM’s some of them I won’t get till about an hour after the person sent it to me.. “puzzled”
January 17th, 2007 at 7:05 PM
Well.. I guess the gesture save was never fixed.. as eluded to by Joshua Linden on January 16th, 2007 at 12:06 PM PST
http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/01/15/preview-of-second-life-11327-up-on-the-beta-test-grid/
@Strollerweb Market:
Gesture creation should be fixed in 1.13.2. Can you hop on the Beta Grid and confirm?
I guess Gesture and creators and sound developers are Second Class citizens.. when there is a bug that affects prim builders… SL jumps through hoops to address that. Its been well over a month since the gesture “bug”. I find it very hard to believe that Prim builders would have to wait that long for a resolution to a building problem.
I cant even imagine they would stand for the fact that we cant even edit current gestures.. imagine if you couldnt edit your objects for over a month… cuz I sure cant.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:07 PM
In build mode at the moment you can only make cubes… no other shapes.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:10 PM
oh - and I had an entire sim returned to the Region owner - I’m assured Linden will fix it - but I have my doubts given that I still have to use the Region/Estate workaround to ssee any water on the 3 sims I have our club on
on top of the worst lag in all my time in SL
NOT HAPPY JAN.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:14 PM
Ok.
I hope the First Look Viewer is here to upload very soon.
Because it was better ( huh?) than the default viewer.
I used that since it’s release.
It was smoother, faster, better graphs, no tight pants to, and it did not crash when looging of every time.
Here’s my first encounter with the new viewer:
6.50 pm: logged in.
7.07 pm: viewer crashed.
7.08 pm: send crash report
7.14 pm: send this post and log in for 2nd time.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:15 PM
Now the upper 1/2 of my body breaks off and dangles below my waist .. randomly. :/
January 17th, 2007 at 7:16 PM
I can see the light! They’ll admit to the problems about 10 hours after everyone already knows about them, then they’ll blame the database and disable searching AGAIN! rofl
January 17th, 2007 at 7:16 PM
Well i keep on freezing…is it just me or is anyone else freezing too :[
January 17th, 2007 at 7:23 PM
I was just building 20mins ago and was able to use all shapes. Everything was working fine for me but I did not travel outside the island (not connected to other sims and only a couple people there) my land is on.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:35 PM
I am not sure about what happens when you hit the Alt key. It goes to the menus and keeps you from typing in chat…sometimes I hit the Alt key and wonder what was going on when i tried to type.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:42 PM
4.18 pm: textures rez very quick. It looks like the “Cuff flare bug” is gone! No more tight pants! Great. Moving in a crowdy sim ( live music) much better ( music was awful but that’s a resident issue :-b)
4.30 pm: tp to my home. Always tricky. Huh? All is there in 10 seconds! Hence: “only” 19000+ online, lol.
And new prims rez as they should. Not a square version of a sphere, but a real sphere. Great! Hard drive has an almost human bodytemp. of 39 degrees Celcius ( if HD’s could hug…)
‘Nd I’m cool too :-)_~~
January 17th, 2007 at 7:43 PM
I was having TP problems … not being able to TP anywhere or move over region borders … Fixed by opening up some new outbound TCP ports on our hardware firewall: Opened up TCP 12000 - 13050 outbound.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:43 PM
Is anyone else having problems like Jaime and me, where the viewer seems to spontaneously be in the menus when you’re trying to chat? I constantly find myself typing, and menus start popping up and flying all over the screen, and I end up doing who knows what to the client. I’m really wondering when this is going to end up making me accidentally do something horrible.
It seems like sometime when you alt-zoom or control-alt-pan, the underlines on the menus show up and never go away. I constantly pan/zoom, so I’m constantly triggering this. Is anyone else having this problem?
January 17th, 2007 at 7:47 PM
well in corner of world, building is sad. phantom like prim behavior, textures appearing infront of next forward prim, crash when empty trash(3 items), and i loose my hair as i walk. its fun
January 17th, 2007 at 7:54 PM
@43 that bug is still happening……Its one of the older bugs the coders still have not figured out yet.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:56 PM
There seems to be a problem with the inventory too: Folders that were openend and then closed, are OPEN once again when you re-enter your inventory. I’ve talked to several others, and the problem ‘activates’ after receiving a new item (any item). I’ve filed a bug-report…
Do any of you have this inventory-problem too?
January 17th, 2007 at 7:57 PM
i was doing fine in the old SL until this last upgrade…now i’m lagging and freezing and it’s tough to move around….please give any suggestions…
January 17th, 2007 at 7:58 PM
Trashs works good here and I can build again, great, was frustrating for weeks.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:02 PM
Same problems as Jaime and Lex. Menus popping up everywhere.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:02 PM
We are having a weird problem with land heights being changed all of a sudden in our sim. Does this make sense to anyone? Anyone else experiencing this? Objects are suddenly floating above the land in places, and others are buried now– sim wide.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:03 PM
Honestly, I had no real problems tonight for the little time I was on. That said, I was a bit of a hermit and didn’t chat much (so can’t attest to any issues there or not). However, I did take a load of snapshots, modeled a couple outfits, tpd around and blogged. No issues out of the ordinary - the lag and slow rezzing is just the way it is…no big issues aside from those. Seems OK to me. I am social user not a builder or designer - so definitely not hitting all the features to test.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:08 PM
I just had the same unexpected crash.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:15 PM
Erm…I lost 2 giftboxes and 2 works of art.
So if anybody sees someone walking around with a huge printed tiger or a box of earrings on his head…mine.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:22 PM
GAh! I can’t even get logged in at all. It just crashes. Has anyone had problems with installing the new version? when I do it, it won’t install a bunch of files, mostly ddl’s but will continue if I hit ignore for them. Then immediate crash when I try to log in. I have downloaded the setup several times in case something corrupted but still having the same problems. Some files won’t install. I can’t find anything about it in support.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:24 PM
It won’t be long before we need CRAY’s to hook up to SL.
That being said, they’ll get a lot of the bugs hammered out. Then they’ll put in new features for the next update with more bugs to hammer out. Same same.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:27 PM
yes, phantom prims disappear in here too, alas.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:31 PM
You know, I have an issue to make a workaround for. The Mac OS X version; downloads fine, and then keeps trying to mount. I let it keep trying for an hour, and then finally gave up.
This is not good. If there are any other Mac users having this problem, at least let me know I’m not alone.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:33 PM
SL has always been buggy but this update is really pi**ing me off completly. I’d like to know why you keep releasing buggy updates? Your testing practices are obviously a joke. This one is the best so far, I’m freezeing every 2 minutes even when I’m not doing anything other than standing in one spot in an empty sim, i’m not the only one haveing this issues and your “help desk” haha told me its my PC’s processor. It worked fine befor so wtf?
January 17th, 2007 at 8:37 PM
My avatar has lost the ability to do some gestures, including clap and laugh. Every time I try to restore these and save them, when I go back to check they are saved as Stop: Animation rather than Start: Animation. When I try to play these gestures, the avatar does not respond and the gesture says it is playing, and it will continue to say it is playing until it is stopped manually.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:39 PM
having problems with jumping prims and textures since the update heh, previously aligned prims are appearing misaligned while still retaining the same x,y,z co-or-dinates, ive had 5 different people in game test this to make sure its not me, my machine or my connection and its doing the same for everyone of them even with a fresh rez from inventory… anyone else noticing this problem, or any suggestions on a fix *getting desperate now lol*
January 17th, 2007 at 8:51 PM
I seem to have found a wonderful issue that everytime I ask someone they say it was there before. Although when I show them exactly what it now does, then they say, “Oh wow it wasnt that bad before.”
My problem is the update fix, “* Fixed toggling inventory closes all folders except the active one”. Now if I am sorting my inverntory and put things into a root folder. Let’s call it hair for an example, if I put other hairs in it then minimize the root folder called hair. I am not wearin a hair but just cleaning up my inventory. If I close that inventory window now, then reopen it. The hair root folder will be displaying all contents. Because now SL thinks, that it is an active folder.
It did this to me on textures, on notes that I got because I went to a land. On any new items that I sorted, even when I moved them out of my objects folder, it still opened the objects folder everytime. Also landmarks because a package added a landmark to me. If this is just me, then somehow when I tell others about it they suddenly learn it isn’t just me.
I will skip the rant about how every new SL update causes color change in hairs. I just wish there was a way to disable this new and somehow supposedly improved function.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:58 PM
Seeing some strange prim linking behavior with this update. Simple prims, like two boxes or two spheres, will not link unless they are within 1m of each other. Anything farther apart, like 2m, generates a “pieces too far apart” error. However, if you stretch the boxes out, they will link in the usual way (max 30m).
Anyone else seeing this?
January 17th, 2007 at 8:59 PM
I hope that the focus tools come back very soon. It’s almost impossible to build without orbit. I had prims returned to me because they encroached on other parcels of land but I couldn’t tell that because the angle was unviewable with only zoom available.
Not being able to build is going to seriously hinder attempts to make new products and to be able to display them correctly.
January 17th, 2007 at 9:01 PM
Hmmm… Apart from the inventory glitch (folders staying open), the ’skinny pants’ glich now affects sleeves too!!! *Cries* :`(

Building anything is awful at the moment … creating a prim and use the red, greed or blue axis to move it. The prim is darting all over the place when you drag it where you want to go, like if you are moving a prim from left to right, and you push up a little on your mouse (staying within the lines) it darts off the screen and push further up and it appears coming from the left. So unless you have a steady hand dont try building anything quickly. It’s impossible :/
Nasty patch LL … Slows me down finishing off my club :/

Other than the 7 crashes in an hour of being logged in tonight, Im experiencing major loss of fps, from around 30-40, to 5-7. Huge graphic spikes coming from my head constantly, random menu popups, random system freezes. Im also getting the client blowing up. Picture this, the top menu bar of the client blown up and streached across your entire screen.
All of which have never happened before. Not a pleased customer here.

I’m a Mac OS X (10.4.8) user, and I didn’t have any problems downloading or installing the new viewer. After that, though… crashing about every 5 - 15 minutes, getting stuck with a spinning pinwheel while trying to turn my avatar, crashing when I try to close Search… it’s pretty much a distaster. And believe me, trying to get First Land with all that going on was a real fun time. I may not log on again until a new viewer is released.

I noticed nothing amiss tonight, though usually I am just playing shows. The venue was crowded, but did not seem too laggy. My SL client has crashed only once since I got my new machine last summer. Could not teleport to a location in my picks a half-second after I brought up my profile, but it was OK the second attempt.
January 17th, 2007 at 10:17 PM
I just had a major crash.
No SL, no connection, no OS.
Had to restart cpu and modem and re-instal SL.
Dunno if 1 and 1 is 2 here so * takes a deep breath and logs in again*
January 17th, 2007 at 10:25 PM
It used to be that if my client is not updating (temporarily lost connection) I can still swing the view around with the keyboard and do mousecam acrobatics then I wait for the update to “bite” at the new view and continue what I’m doing.
Any chance we’ll get that back? I see it slowing me down when I’m helping out at welcome areas, traveling, exploring, and inspecting my building.
At least before I could inspect my builds even if the update is delayed.
January 17th, 2007 at 10:28 PM
Loads of problems reported, some perhaps related to this new update and others not. In my case I keep loosing connection with parts of SL, like, regions around me and then my region, fall offline. Rebooting doesn’t help, just waiting and praying. This is the second time this happens. The first time was day before yesterday, so this probably has nothing to do with this new update.
Can’t say anything yet about this new update, because I can’t get in… well, I can, barely, and then offline in couple of minutes. That’s my five cents for this discussion.

Ok..now when i try to add notes on the notes tab of my profile… it thinks im placing a classified AD.. and says i must specify a non blank name for my classified. LOL.. if i just X out the profile instead of the OK button I’m fine
January 17th, 2007 at 10:35 PM
Yup, same here:
“You must specify a non-blank name for your classifieds”
I was editing my My Notes-tab.

Pathetic, what happened to the sound judgement from last week? This isn’t gonna work so we’re gonna wait ?
Can’t build anything, only prim available is a cube, and if U try to alter the cube to a different shape, ie a prism, it comes out 1/2 cube, completely useless.

(Addendum to comment #66)
My connection is bad right now so I get a lot of client update delays. It’s extremely hard to work on scripts when it won’t let me type when the client is not updating. Granted it catches up, but can’t the editor update/refresh be divorced from the connection?
Used to be, like with the camera moving, I can just keep typing while the client is not updating, and everything will go in synch when I compile my script.
January 17th, 2007 at 11:02 PM
and I know there is a work around, but still ridiculous, as usual, the ball has been dropped again.
January 17th, 2007 at 11:03 PM
Please don’t remove Tools -> Recompile Scripts In Selection.
It is NOT the same as resetting. It works when resetting fails. Removing it will be going back in time when we didn’t have that function. Remember those times folks? We had to beg object creators to do a recompile and send the objects back to them. I’m pretty sure nobody wants to do that anymore! And what about non transfer objects that suddenly fails? Can’t return those to creator for recompiling.
Please reconsider this decision, LL!

I can’t teleport, if I do itwon’t work and get disconnected.
I use the linux version.

“You know, I have an issue to make a workaround for. The Mac OS X version; downloads fine, and then keeps trying to mount. I let it keep trying for an hour, and then finally gave up.”
I am also a Mac Os X user, i downloaded the update fine, took a little bit to open.
Had no big probs but been inworld not too long, things rezzed fine and i could move.

For the whole day, SL was very jerky, with it freezing for up to 15 seconds at a time. SL crashed a number of times - on the one time I tried to enable Crash Logger, it stalled when transmitting data.
Now, with only 14000 people over the whole grid, it is still very jerky - not a big problem when chatting but a very big problem when trying to move around or move anything else around.
Although previous releases have introduced lag for a relatively short period of time (say, a few hours), this one seems to be an ongoing problem.

Are ya ever gonna fix the bug that renders pants like skin?
January 17th, 2007 at 11:47 PM
Objects, avatar appearance, and environment take seemingly forever to render upon login.
Crashing while telporting - numerous times
Falling through the world while trying to move around normally, then being warped back to starting location.
Avatar items - like hair, clothing, jewelry - not loading properly (like having two hair prims on top of the other)
January 17th, 2007 at 11:51 PM
I hate to go against the grain here, but..
No trouble logging in - took a *little* longer than usual, but not much longer.
When I log in, my inventory is pretty much already loaded for me.
When I tp somewhere, it takes about 3-5 seconds, and I rez completely every time.
I see water everywhere.
I can create every prim available.
I can link prims either while right next to each other, or while up to 3.7m away (dont know what the limit was before).
No skinny pants! (yet - although I found that I usually only see skinny pants on people I know have small video cards, which is wierd..)
20fps as usual.
Normal acceptable amount of occasional packet loss.
When right-clicking and editing an object, the focus isnt on edit straight away, but I only had to click Edit once, and all subsequent new attempts showed the edit viewer as default from there on in.
*blinks*
Guess I’m just one of the lucky ones? =P

Shouri@59: no problem mounting the disk image here, under 10.4.8.

“Usagi Musashi Says: Oh yes we have a pretty blog don`t we:)”
Much as I hate the new format blog, please can this joke rest? Please flame elsewhere. Or do we want everyone in Linden labs to stop all non-grid-fix work till the blog people say it’s ok? Maybe we should lay off all the other workers, cause they obviously can’t do anything to make anyone happy.
Maybe we should revert back to the 2005 Beta version too and kick anyone who wasn’t a resident then too to reduce lag………..
January 18th, 2007 at 12:38 AM
“Much as I hate the new format blog, please can this joke rest? Please flame elsewhere. ” pardon?????? never mind…. :/
January 18th, 2007 at 12:39 AM
This current release is OK.But stil has too many issues to deal with.
We just need to hang on until storm is over.
January 18th, 2007 at 12:54 AM
CPU usage peaks out to 100% and freezes the SL client for a moment. This is a linux clients, but I’ve heard from another person, that it does the same under Windows.
January 18th, 2007 at 1:01 AM
Not sure what is wrong, but with the Linux client I am still unable to teleport, and it’s not only from crowded places. I’m going from a practically empty island to an empty region surrounded by empty regions - and there aren’t that many people online now either. Every time I try, I wait for a minute or two and then get forcibly logged out. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Is it Linux-specific?
January 18th, 2007 at 1:10 AM
There I was, about to give up the whole thing, but they released the client ahead of the grid coming up, which I thought was a sign of confidence and confidence-giving. Good for them. Ok, major problems and grey bodies everywhere, but I personally will give SL a Second Chance. Being new, ‘Second’ in chance terms is as far as I’;ve got up to now. Reading these blogs I guess others have given LL quite a lot of second chances. Ho hum.
January 18th, 2007 at 1:31 AM
I experience problems when I fly forward. It starts, but never stops, then logs me off. It’s really annoying.
January 18th, 2007 at 2:09 AM
Hmmmm - looks like Linux-specific. I just tried from my Windows laptop connected to the same home network and TP works just fine. Anyone else exoeriencing trouble with a Linux client?
January 18th, 2007 at 2:42 AM
When taking about 10 pictures (highresolution, silent mode is my standard) the client crashes. reproduce bug: start taking pictures, (Ctrl~)move with the cam but not with the avatar in between pictures
