OK look.

I (sorta) understand when people are all yay good job LL employees and all that.

But understand this.

When you as a company put out all over the net and give out press releases left and right, and invite everybody and they mama's underage dog onto your application FOR FREE -

Then turn around and go ooops my goodness we just weren't READY to deal with all this influx.

I'm sorry but I'm not feeling your pain.

You build up the application so it can take stresses AHEAD of time, and THEN give out the word that everyone can come in - ok maybe I might feel some sort of empathy if stuff breaks down.

But like I've said before and others of us who have been around for 2 years and more, LL has been dealing with pretty much the exact same types of problems during all that time.

So yes, people are NOT posting positive things here. By the very fact that an LL employee posts a woohoo loookit all the peeps we gots just when the grid explodes again -

Shows very apparently that one hand does not know what the hell the other is doing.

There is nothing that tells me that LL is run as a cohesive unit. If so, someone would have shut up the damn press department a long dang time ago and told them to chill out while they make sure everything can handle additional people on the grid.

Think about it.

And giving out a free ride to anyone who has a computer and a high speed connection, without some sort of trial-only basis.... well that's just asking for trouble.

I'm trying very hard to find another (non beta) game that does all this free for all type stuff.

Anyone?

(Or maybe... think about this.... perhaps the testing of the grid goes on all the time, instead of ahead of time. I mean .... maybe LL is makin yall PAY to beta test their technology?...)

Yes, SL does have problems that are NOT related to trojans and viruses. BUT. I have noticed one thing. THe slower your CPU and video is, the more unstable things are.

SO, BEFORE YOU WHINE make certain, 100% certain that YOU aren’t the source of the problem. UPDATE YOUR PROTECTION PEOPLE. Don’t run 100+ icon tray tools. Make certain your machine is working good. And enjoy SL.

Ahzzmandius

You’ve gotta be kidding me. There are admitted faults within the system. Just becuase you aren’t catching hell doesn’t mean that everyone else is doing something wrong.

I am on a MacBook, with everything upgraded to the top of the ball and guess what? I’m having the same problem as a lot of these people are. Take your Windows whine and shove it up your….*growls*

Lindens, fix the problems. This is getting very stupid. WARN us before knocking us off. You stated that you would indeed do so. I saw no warning.

-------------------------

I think you missed my point at the end entirely.

I specificly stated that not all problems are related to the end user's machines yet you feel that you have to flambay anyways. I specificly stated that there is a direct correlation between the frequency of issues and the end user's machine speed and yet you completely ignored this.

So please, check your own system, if you can say that it's 100% rock solid and doesn't have a single problem, and that your connection all the way across the Internet to Linden Lab's servers is solid and isn't droping any packets, then by all means, gripe away :) As a customer you have the right to grip, but NOT when you haven't done your half of the work in assuring that things are running well.

This goes for ALL of the users. I can't recount how many times as a support person that I have had irate customers calling for support that ended up being the source of the problem.

I'll also freely admit here that the end machine shouldn't cause issues like these, but it does. Personally I suspect this is a large reason why they are moving to TCP and http based requests. To eliminate a large chunk of issues caused by machines that aren't performing as they should. We shall see once they get these new netowrking methods fully implemented and enabled. :)

Well, I have often come to the Lindens' defense in this blog, but Leaf's story is a nightmare!! 6 days??? Is he going to get back $50 for the tier he payed for the time his island was down? If he's a bueiness owner or land renter - then I assume he lost even more. Not to mention the incredible irritation he must have felt at being ignored. Feel for you, Leaf.

Seriously, LL, I know the struggles you are going through and am always a supportive as I can be - but you NEED to figure out a way to support people better - especially those who are paying serious cash for your "hosting" service. If you can't get staff fast enough to support your growth, thenh you need to SLOW DOWN!

Don't get me wrong - love the fixes increased functionality, and i know you're working real hard on bugs. But this is just basic customer service - Help Desk triage and rerouting 101.

It is amazing to me that so many people voice negative comments, yet stay online in Second World. Server issues are a problem, yes, but if you hate this world so much why not just leave? At every turn, whenever there is annnouncement, the negative voices are practically the only ones heard. I would like SO much for people to just try and appreciate the effort going into SL must be.
The fact that Linden announce he bad AND the good is already so very unique. Next time, it would be nice if all these big complainers shut their mouths for just a few seconds and ask themselves "If this were MY company, MY server farm, MY database, how would I deal with problems?" if then they can still come up with constructive remarks, I for one would welcome them.
However, the main part of comments totally bypasses the fact that there are *people* on the other end.
Just my 2 cents

I am going to hang on the Lindens do read the posts I am pretty sure lol, but I see this as the way of the future, it can help business in RL and SL be integrated. Better than live video feeds and all. The amount of advertising SL has done throughout the world has caused the overload. I have had several businesses during my life so I have some experience. But that’s what I am seeing. I get to speak with people from so many parts of the world not just through secondlife. They have said oh I saw a program on the Tv the other day about secondlife. I shall give it a look. Which is great for business, but not the overload. I also back in July saw a program on my Tv about secondlife. Though I joined paid membership and bought a block of land within 3 hours. I have been waiting for this for about 20 years.

I have a health issue, which makes working in RL a problem for me. Basically working as a builder and being involved in extreme sports for more than half my life has stuffed my body up. Gosh and I thought I was unbreakable. I am 37.

But this way I have a chance to be productive and to finally get to use my mind in my unique creative way. Relatives and friends have been nagging me for years to do my art. But we all know in the past that the majority of artists starve, this place has given a better chance for artists to make some money for using their skills. All so might help get a foot in the door with RL companies.

Maybe they can, as it has been suggested before, have another grid for people to learn on, About 30% will get bored the other 70% will become paying members and slow the rate of growth on the main grid down long enough for the Lindens to do whatever it is that they need to do.

I have also been guilty of having a winge but mostly because when I am in creation mode it kills me to stop even if I have been working for 20 hours here. No point me trying to sleep in that frame of mind no matter how tired I am. Brain won’t shut down anyway lol.

Anyway be patient if you love it you will stay if you don’t you’ll leave. Simple really. I am sure the Lindens dread coming into to work some days, they know we are unhappy. We have invested money but so have they. I am sure they can’t afford to waste it either.
July 2006 about 300,000 members, now over 2 million. Big difference.

Separate grid is a wise move, but it isn’t my company. Way to go Lindens I am going to stick it out. 2007 will be a wonderful year. Take it easy guys.

ok, so customer support just gets better and better.

As a region owner, I am entitled to "concierge" level support - which in a back-patting announcment has grown in size:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/12/11/the-concierge-team-has-grown/

So after my region is offline for over 3 hours I check all the concierge names, and NONE are online.
The previous concierge email I sent because NONE were online got a response after 6 days - yes 6 days. Global company? ummmm no.

So how to get my island back online? All others on the map are there for a long time now.
The blog states at this time "All systems are back to normal" - errr not from where I sit.

As a last resort - I try "Help Request" -- why do I toture myself so?

Guess what the response is?
..."read the blog".

And pointing out that the blog says "All systems are back to normal" results in the "Helpful" Linden closing the session.

So at this point I am pretty close to buying a flight ticket to SF and causing a crime scene at the LL offices.

VERY VERY VERY Unprofessional from so many angles.

*sigh*

So after my region is offline for over 3 hours I check all the concierge names, and NONE are online.
The previous concierge email I sent because NONE were online got a response after 6 days - yes 6 days. Global company? ummmm no.

So how to get my island back online? All others on the map are there for a long time now.
The blog states at this time “All systems are back to normal” - errr not from where I sit.

As a last resort - I try “Help Request” — why do I toture myself so?

Guess what the response is?
…”read the blog”.

And pointing out that the blog says “All systems are back to normal” results in the “Helpful” Linden closing the session.

So at this point I am pretty close to buying a flight ticket to SF and causing a crime scene at the LL offices.

VERY VERY VERY Unprofessional from so many angles.

*sigh*
Leaf.
