A Concurrency of 20,000 - Grid Status Update
Friday, December 29th, 2006 at 3:07 PM by: Pathfinder Linden[4:34pm PST] We’ve resolved some database load issues that were causing the problems, and the Grid appears to be running much better than earlier today. If you are still having problems with avatars rezzing or L$ balance, please try logging out and back in again. Thank you for your patience, and we’ll continue to monitor things as the evening progresses.
[3:48pm PST] The grid was briefly set to “Linden logins only,” which is why some of you could not log in for a few minutes. The grid is currently open, and we’re still working on the database issues. I’ll keep you posted as we continue to work on this.
As an aside, yes, it’s unfortunate (ironic?) that this happened just as I posted this announcement to share the fact that be broke the 20k concurrency mark. That was a milestone I felt was important to simply note here.
Growth is often a double-edged sword. It is something to celebrate as any world grows and builds communities, allowing more people connect with each other and share hopes and dreams. But growth also poses challenges on how a community can scale, both in the technical and sociological aspects, and often involves some growing pains. I’m sorry for the current database issue, and please know we are working on it.
[3:32pm PST] We’re having some database issues at the moment, with things like teleports not working, L$ balances now showing properly, and objects not rezzing in properly. This is unrelated to the asset server issue previously mentioned, and we’re working on this new issue right now. Please continue to check this blog post for details as we work things out. Thank you.

Second Life just broke the 20,000 mark for concurrency.

December 29th, 2006 at 3:08 PM
I guess that means the log out is broken now …
December 29th, 2006 at 3:09 PM
Right after the servers been down for nearly 12 hours but still quite an achievement lol
Yay let’s celebrate!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:09 PM
Yes..I noticed..it hit 20K and money transfers, profiles, and search stopped working..my friend is trying to relog for the 5th time to be able to see his AV, inventory, and L$ balance.
“Thanks” for the new mile stone and sorry if I’m not happy.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:10 PM
And the grid went down again…..
December 29th, 2006 at 3:10 PM
“Concurrency” requires the ability to see one’s body and teleport though, surely?
I managed to get online into SL four times since it has come up after the hardware fault. Each time bandwidth has dropped quickly to zero or I’ve had no body. No time have I been able to TP.
Congrats on the numbers though …
December 29th, 2006 at 3:11 PM
funny that two minutes after this was posted, SL starts having presence issues again….
December 29th, 2006 at 3:12 PM
Well now we know the limit I guess.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:13 PM
yea really cool… logged in… no clothes, no av and no money - nice downgrade
December 29th, 2006 at 3:14 PM
I’m sorry, LL, but while this is a great achievement for Linden Labs as a company, it’s really not good news for those of us trying to get around in SL. It really isn’t. Build the system to handle it, and we’ll all celebrate with you.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:14 PM
Congrats, but I’m afraid, what with the asset cluster off prime efficiency.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
Now if only we could actually do something while 20k+ people are online cause atm, we cant teleport, we cant use search, hell some peoples avies arent loading correctly..
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
I’ve been having problems logging in as well.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
cool 20.000 mark been on a few times tho
soon 30.000 then 40.000..we will se 50.000 in May/June…so hurry,,get more power on
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
woohoo, 20,000 users, all without bodies, hud attachments, scripts, clothes, WORKING friends list, IMs… yeah, great milestone…. no, maybe we can get this thing to actually become STABLE?????
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
Pat yourselves on the back but please fix this database issue, it’s been a month!!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
Can’t see my av’s body. can’t TP anywhere. Let’s keep adding more users and pound them servers!!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 PM
I can’t contact live help, I can’t get any profiles, I can’t tp effectively, my IMs ar sporadic. What exaclty is there to cheer about?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:16 PM
thnx for the great job getting the grid back after the major chrash earlier today… sl is working great again!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:16 PM
Yeah, sorry to say.. I’m not thrilled about your numbers either. Your system obviously can’t handle it, considering I’ve relogged 10 times and still yet to see my av or money load, or to be able to do anything at all for that matter.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:17 PM
yay! i mean aw cr*p
December 29th, 2006 at 3:17 PM
20,000 users are currently unable to:
- Teleport
- Rez objects
- Buy Products
- Exchange Money
- Attach anything
- Change clothing
- View profiles
- Open inventory items
- Search for ANYTHING
- Browse world map
But… Yay for numbers.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:17 PM
That’s 20,000 angry people, all at the same time…
Can you hear the roar yet?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
Good for you!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
I logged in at 20006, but had no body or inventory… so I relogged 9 times - still with no body, L$ or inventory - The system may have counted those in their 200015 count. When I looked again, there were only 18,917 (this is within a 6 minute time frame)
I’d love to see SL w/20,000+. I don’t think it was really achieved today - just all of us w/o inventory and body’s desperately trying to get in may have been counted multiple times.
Let’s see if I can log yet!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
ps: get 1.13.1.6, most of you are using 1.13.1.5!
Melvin
December 29th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
I lol’d at my other lines being deleted.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
Yeah seriously I think we all wish their were less people, less lag.. peacful..
I don’t know though I’m on the teen grid so we don’t have as many new users as you main griders. Still we are effectited by the profile, tp, help request not working, lag ^^
December 29th, 2006 at 3:19 PM
Wonderful, my client that owes me 30K now says hes going out of town in a few hours and is here to pay me now, but of course he can’t. Way to go LL, I would’ve thought that you would have predicted this weeks ago when the abnormal growth started so why not think abnormal and go beyond your estimates on growth so these things are addressed before they become a serious problem. Not saying they arent already serious. hope you get this dixed and theres not more downtime, I cant afford to b offline weekly like this in my bbusiness.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:19 PM
Nice. Congratulations. But after 19K Im having problems with TP, I have to log in several times until my L$ appears, I don’t see my self and it stays downloading clothing for the eternity….
December 29th, 2006 at 3:19 PM
yeah we hit 20k and the game still dont work can you please get this together my gawd ur all looking like morons here
December 29th, 2006 at 3:19 PM
And look how fast those #’s dropped, already down from 20,000 to 17,000 people. That should tell you something right there, 3,000 people dropped in 5 minutes? Congrats!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Sl is suffering majour lag and transactions are not being processed, congrats on the 20000 but the heavly load is killing the system.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Congrats on the 20! but what is happening, been trying to see my body, tp to anywere and i just cant, ist been like 15 times i relog but well i think we have to be paicient and see what happend. I kinda understand LL crew, they work they arses off to make people happy, but i think theres always something wrong to be fixed. Hurray for the 20 and keep the hard work guys, just lets us know when we can travel and see each others bodies lol. :))))
Phoebe
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Congrads on 20K !! Annnddd there goes the grid down again *pouts*
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
The more people that they can log on, the more profit they can make.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Big woop - the number is there but what about being stable? I was unable to purchase an item nor use my inventory as “an item was pending” …. log off and on… no body, no money, no inventory, no friends list…. ya, good to know 20,000 people are there but none can see me.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Great!
Well, at the moment “Request Timed Out” ..Am I EVER going to be able to get something don here/?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:21 PM
Congrats to LL
I sympathise with LL on their issues as i know what it’s like….. but guys, quit shooting yourselves in the foot and limit either new signups or concurrent logins
It makes sense technically
…. but….
Commercially, every single user is a statistic, and thats all that matters.
Find the middle ground please, somone, anyone? Dust?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:21 PM
My body is missing apart from eyes, fangs and a few clothes? I’m sure the backup you have will sort this out in time though
December 29th, 2006 at 3:21 PM
All my objects are gone, but i can still see my folders. Needs moar people.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:22 PM
Mmmmmmmmm well now, can’t get on all day due to servers down, finally get on only to find no money transfers - no tp - and lag that i havnt experienced before - oh and 20,000 on line cool!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:22 PM
great, 20k people
But, the lag is horrible.
sure having alot of people is great, but not great if they can’t buy or sell..lol
December 29th, 2006 at 3:22 PM
Yeah - hooray! Hit 20K and the grid went down! Not too impressive - perhaps the celebration should be saved until the 20K can successfully participate in world for an ongoing period of time without issues….
Sarcasm becomes an ally when frustration starts to get the best of you….
December 29th, 2006 at 3:23 PM
Everyone else needs to get online. This is what happens when you show for the press. Servers take a nosedive into epilepsy due to the load.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:23 PM
Great.. Hard enough to stay on the game since it’s been “fixed”. Now it crashes and it’s impossible to get back on. There seems to be alot of work going on in SL, but it just keeps getting worse.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:23 PM
I guess that is why I can’t TP, can’t cross a sim border, can’t rez an item from my inventory, can’t get a good search…… The list goes on.
What good is having 20,000 people online if your paying customers are screaming because they can not preform the simpilist task in world?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:23 PM
FYI, I’m unable to rez objects (and they’re not being returned, either), teleport, et al.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:23 PM
Congratulations. Let them eat cake.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:24 PM
what a joke 20,000 and we cant tp, see ourselves, missing inventory, missing body. oh yay
December 29th, 2006 at 3:24 PM
OK, fabulous - what a great stress test!
Now that you know where the cracks appear with a 20K load, can you at some point look into letting us know how you’re planning to roll out better functional stability for the future as SL’s population grows exponentially?
I am very, very excited by the growth of SL and am very confident you guys are going to be able to ramp up accordingly, since presumably, you planned for growth. So what is that going to look like and how will we get there?
Thanks, grid monkies
December 29th, 2006 at 3:24 PM
Sorry folks I was the 20,016th person that came on and caused everthing to break
Great Job Linden it is a milestone, but seriously with your enrollment number climbing exponentially you should considering throttling the the number of users at a time until you sort out the scaling and technology problems. Better to have 15,000 happy Second lifers than 20,000 unhappy ones.
With all the analogies being drawn against when the internet started up - I remember back in the early 90’s when my ISP ran out of phone lines …… learn the lessons from the past so you don’t repeat them in the future
“Jet
December 29th, 2006 at 3:25 PM
Is that why everything is broken? Can’t tp, can’t see the map, can’t search anything, and every avatar that logs in is arriving as female even when they’re male, and invisible to themselves, everything but the prims they’re wearing. Please, fix this?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:25 PM
whats going on now seems like you guys would be more worried about the problems at hand we log on and can TP anywhere we dont have our money anymore and our bodies are gone what up with this mess all of a sudden shut down the grid till you find the problems that lie here but anyways CONGRATS on the 2015 now maybe you start working on the problems weve had for months
December 29th, 2006 at 3:25 PM
You are unbelievable …really unbelievable…well done….now lets see it get to 0 in about 2 more months of this after reading some of the beta updates. Actually put that down to 0 paying people and 20000 non paying people.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:25 PM
……… no offense but all i care about is whether or not SL is working properly, i could give a damn if theres 20,000 people online at once
December 29th, 2006 at 3:26 PM
Oh.. and at 3:25, it was back to 17,551.
Something I’m missing?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:26 PM
I can’t even IM. LOL
December 29th, 2006 at 3:26 PM
Umm.. does that mean 20,000 with no bodies.. just hair and clothing?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
Excellent, and another record is broken
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
Whats going on? I have no currency, I cant get into my inventory, I cant bring up profiles.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
I guess giving 20,000 bad service is a better milestone to you than giving 10,000 a good service?
I am currently out of game because I was half missing, had no lindens showing, could not tp, could not search etc etc etc
yaaaay congrats on the 20,000 I could not be happier with the service I pay for ….. oh and in case you missed it - that was sarcasm
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
OK, Linden Labs, I respect your company and employees, but I have to get something off my chest:
Things that come from letting in non-verified accounts-
1: *Population overload (hence the database issues)*
2: *More greifers due to the alternitive to switch to another character with ease when banned*
3: *More underage users*
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
Emphasis on broken. **sigh**!!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:28 PM
We’re having some database load issues at the moment, and are working on it. I’ll keep this blog entry updated with details as we have more to share. I apologize for the problems, and will keep everyone posted.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
What exactly is there to cheer about? I will still pay for my account, but i sold all my land yesterday, im sick of it. So today can not tp, no money, my avi is invis, tried to take pics at a wedding, but snapshots make me crash… but hey good for you all!!! you have set the record for having the most people ticked off at you all at once, wow i hope i get to celebrate that one day…
oh and now i cant even log in! THANKS!!! woot!
*rolls eyes*
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
Yup, there it is, the threshold above which all fails. Considering the outage, followed by peak demand, you’d expect a limit on login/activity just to make sure it’s all rock, before loading it right up to breaking point! Will come back tomorrow when all of USofA is in bed and I’m awake again!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
They have logged off because they can’t do anything.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
IM? I can’t even get in - the place is now closed for maintenance - and not a word about why, where, time estimate…. Yay 20,000. Woohoo.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
Well, that’s great - but apparently SL can’t take 20.000 - since it’s been pretty much broken for the klast day, it’s very annoying
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
Hehe, and now SL broke AGAIN….”login failed. Secondlife is closed for maintenance.”
Woo hoo Lindens, way to go. Wanna brag about another record?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
I couldn’t tp anywhere….logged out…not restricted to employees…wtf…come on…your numbers are impressive…and sl is taking a serious nosedive
December 29th, 2006 at 3:29 PM
You broke 20000? and im supposed to be happy? We have constant break downs .. weve been offline practically all day ( as we have being a brit) i log on to find my lindens missing.. I usually have no body save for my hair, I have trouble acccessing my inventory.. teleporting anywhere.. and such like and for this i Paid upfront for a premium account?! oh yeah im celebrating…. NOT
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
When I joined about a year ago, typical #s online was 5,000 during quiet times and peak about 7,000 sometime during the weekend.
Suppose you were running a coffeehouse with 5,000 people in it and within a year there were 20,000 people in your coffeehouse… I know silly example but I’m trying to say there is NO company able to take skyrocketing growth smoothly. Gotta face it folks SL cannot be God or Heaven or Perfect — they are regular folks trying to keep up with this cool thing they started…
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
*laughs* Way to go, 20,000! We broke the game!
Okay, who did it? Who was the 20,000th?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
and we are down again.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
The only consolation I can find in this blog entry is that the news may make SL a more attractive prospect to potential buyers. Quite how you can blindly push for this insane increase in ‘concurrency’ whilst ignoring completely the negative impact this has on those of us already here and investing is simply beyond my comprehension.
Even with my very limited knowledge it is clear that your ‘hardware’ is not up to the job of supplying a consistant and value for money service as things stand. Why then would you knowingly increase the load on an already creaking grid and not expect the catastrophic failures that are fast becoming the norm in SL?
Even more confounding is the fact that you (probably very sincerely) ask us all to join in your celebration of this ‘quantity over quality’ mission statement?
I truly hate to be negative but whilst LL pay your salary, we the users pay LL so forgive me if I expect something playable in return for my money. Quite simply at the moment I am not getting that.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
Maybe thats why i cant log in
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
>.>
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
And once a friggin gain the grid is down for maintenence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And once a friggin gain NO WARNING!!!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:30 PM
Isto não anda funcionando mesmo!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
Just curious - are those verified “active” logins or are some “phantom presence” left by crashed users? Is there a way to be sure?
‘Gratz on the number though!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
We’re broken again yes?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
I’d love a ruling that once the grid hits a certain load no more free accounts may log in just payed ones. The higher we go the worse it gets.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
All i hear is whining from all of you, your lucky they even put in the time to make this game. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. After the first person says something, it gets a little old don’t ya think?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
I look kind of cool walking around with the just tops of my boots and my hair showing up.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:31 PM
3:36 pacific time — 29 minutes later, after SL crashed on me (when I went to do something advanced like go CTRL-A (for select all) out of habit in a notecard) — and now that i try to log back in.. - guess what — Second Life is closed once again for maintenance. grid is down again. We’re just not really ready for prime time are we with everything about SL? Remind me not to do my online banking in-world.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
We need better servers, other games can handel 200,000 people EASILY! What’s with Second Life?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
i think its great that we hit the 20000 mark but how come the grid is being fixed a lot today id say too much
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Hmmm… Nice milestone. Maybe when this doubles to say… I dunno… forty thousand people, we can just crash our systems entirely in celebration! Yeah… that sounds like fun… What exactly goes on during these upgrades?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Well all I can say is congratz on getting that many people. But I want my inventory Items back that failed to rez that have also not reappeared in my inventory. loosing a top of the range sexgen bed is not going to make me happy and clap my hands at your achivement.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Wow!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
It would be so nice if that meant 20,000 people who could IM, chat, fly, walk, tp, wear clothes, etc.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Stupid question, but do lindens copy and paste their responses here?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Any chance of a breakdown of that figure into new users (last week) Premium Users/Basic and Free accounts. Nice to know how many of these are peeps are those who have had new machines for Christmas and how many are long term residents. Well done tho. Hope they can all see each other.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
And then promptly logged them all off???
Looks like the grid is down again. Rough day for you guys, good luck getting things back in order.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
[...] Soeben wurde die magische 20.000iger Marke geknackt. Wenn soviele zur gleichen Zeit in Second Life eingeloggt sind geht nur leider nix mehr [...]
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Log in troubles here now!! No inventory, no L$, invisible avatar. Log in only works after several tries… Keep getting error message that grid is down…
December 29th, 2006 at 3:32 PM
Linden Labs biggest mistake was allowing all those free accounts. Now there are 20k people, 12k that are prolly griefers who are making it so PAYING customers cant use the system. Quantity doesnt mean quality guys.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
congrats but im not one of them since the logins are closed again due server trouble again…. just wanted to relog
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
Fabulous…you get 20K users online and then the grid goes down for maintenance after being down all morning. One step forward and two steps back…as usual.
You’re proud of your 2 million plus members but the system can’t support 1% of them using the product at the same time.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
Hooray, its great that we have so many people playing at once, but maybe we should concentrate more heavily on the important issues, like teleports, search, not being able to see oneself, failing to rez objects?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
And, here’s a thought. To deal with database load issues, restrict log ins to premium members only since we are the ones paying for this crappy service!! When it is bad, kick out the freeloaders, but let us paying members in. I’m *sure* that would alleviate some of the load issues, when there are issues. But wait, that’s like *always*, which would mean unverified accounts would hardly ever get in….hehe.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
And the grid went down. 20.000 people in. And 5.000 went out in 1 sec.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
And now SL is closed for maintennance!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
In light of what is going on right now and how things have been for months.. it’s rather a slap in the face to be patting yourselves on the back at a time like this IMHO. Please remember this actually does cost some of us a considerable amount of RL money which seems to be fast going down the drain.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
I could have sworn I’ve seen 20k logins before.. or at least 19k. It’s no big deal really.. but the database issues are really getting on my nerves and I’d rather see the entire gird to be down for a week while they PROPERLY fix the issues, rather than temporarily close logins and try to band-aid the problem.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 PM
happy flippin new year wtg LL fix the thing already and duct tape isnt the answer sheesh
December 29th, 2006 at 3:34 PM
And at 6:32PM EST, shutdown, and the notice that only the Lindens were online…
December 29th, 2006 at 3:34 PM
OMG so messed up.
I agree growth is good for everyone, though LL needs to plan to the growth, not attempt to hap hazardly patch problems after they happen.
Asset server is still messed? I saw a quite humorous post when scrolling through your forum Archives.
October 2004, the fifth message ever posted (at least archived)
“An asset server is a terrible thing to have burst into flames..
Wednesday, October 13th, 2004 by marklinden”
2 years, 2 months and still the same issues!!!
Are you still using the burnt asset server? Seriously, this is outrageous. How much time do you need????
The following issues (probably missing some) have been constant headaches going back MONTHS:
Friends list
Rezzing clothes/skin “missing”
Rezzing at all “invisible”
Missing Inventory
Problems with L$ balances showing
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Can we fix something before we add new “features” and aim for the 30,000 user mark?
Is LL a Ponzi scheme? Who cares if the old members are happy or if anyone is really, as long as we have MORE new people coming around out of curiousity, even if they never visit again - the member numbers look good to our investors.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:34 PM
o.ov go team lindens
December 29th, 2006 at 3:34 PM
20000 users who can’t tp, can’t rez, are losing stuff from their inventory, and are generally having a really bad time of it. You think this is something to celebrate?
You must be looking at a different Second Life to the rest of us. Hey — how about letting us in to this other version…you know, the one that works…we might stop complaining…
We desperately want Second Life to work. We really want to see it succeed, we want to enjoy the whole experience, enjoy meeting friends, making stuff, doing all the great things that are in there. You are killing that enjoyment, and you are making it worse by not getting to grips with the fact that the whole system is falling apart. Stop developing new stuff. Stop tweaking things. Start fixing what is already there, and making it stable. Right now nothing else matters, because if it doesn’t get stable, that 20000 concurrent users is going to drop fast.

Yeah great timing with your announcements…..not

This is good for us in the business world but the lag and stability has been getting worse and worse in SL. Please consider improving the physical hardware of the SL servers in the future since increased lag with more people and is going to start turning people away from SL. I think SL has a bright future and surely it can hit 50,000 or even 100,000 users online at the same time but I hope you guys start considering making the computer/hardware part of SL on your end stronger for everyones sake.

I am honestly loving the issue not one for flaming but wow 12 hours downtime…and we still have issues and a restricted log in thats pretty bad Linden Labs…..forget the updates how about getting the hardware up to speed for this new traffic load so we can actually play and your accomplishment be truely appreciated versus flamed continually

If you have over 2,251,717 users… but have issues with only 20,000 people being on… maybe you should hire a better maintenance team… or get the thing re-written. Please. There are plenty of good programmers out there. Why does this thing require so many computer resources to run… and then collapse log ins when it reaches only one percent of the total known account holders being logged in.
Way to go. You’ve gotten one percent of your clients online at one time.
Let’s all cheer.

Enough is enough is enough! When I decided to buy here and invest it was all lovely… but it’s a bit like a second hand car yard…
I bought my car and the party is over… it constantly breaks down and bits fall off and I feel like driving it into a ditch and leaving it there…
I wonder if I come back with a new name and a pocketful of money will everything be sweet again?????

LL seem to be really good at creating a metaverse and attracting customers, unfortunately there doesnt seem to be anyone there that can put 2 and 2 together and come up with 20,000 = unstable.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:35 PM
Sl hit 20k then it broke
is it only me not seeign the happy happy in this?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:35 PM

What Max said.
I have been able to appear in world invisible to me an Ruthed with hair to my partner, after many attempts. Couldn’t open inventory folders or any of the real fancy stuff. I was able to build an 1825 sqm prim condominium in less than 10 min, so kudos on that.
Along the way, the usual problems, DNS lookup failing because SL dropped the internet connection, I don’t exist and would I like to create an account? Appearing invisible with hair, necklace, bracelet, shoes. On three of those four (so far) sort of connections I could not communicate at all an minimap showed crash within 10 sec or so. The one time I was Ruthed but able to communicate with my partner on IM, I made her kiss a Ruth.
So whoop do effing do.
Let me give you a hint if you do not want a FURIOUS base of users. Post that kind of self congratulatory crap when you have 20,000 users ****actually running problem free **** concurrently. Otherwise, save it for your staff meetings. This is even more insulting than the earlier Linden post about getting a life.

I said it before, and i say it again…. either LL need to do something and restrict new signups/concurrent users (or whatever it takes to restore stability) or feel the back-lash.
Which they are already feeling, no doubt. I have heard of many people selling land, and bailing out… the exact users that LL needs to keep, but are losing in droves.
C’mon guys, roll the hard six, and pull your fingers out! Make a decision or you will have nothing to make a decision about!

This number is utterly meaningless to those that are able to log in and watch their hair float in space as their bodiless AVs try to move through a sluggish world.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
Lois. Im planning to put in payment info when things are looking up. Don’t be an elitist. IF you simply stop all new setups for a while this will stop.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
Very well said Lorelei Mission
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
Congratulations everyone! With this amazing amount of log-ins, we will be able to achieve everything we want such as world peace and happiness for all! …. Actually, every one of those 20,000 people would much rather appreciate a working SL rather than useless numbers.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
I have tried to log on 10 times and it says only employees allowed, second time today, why can’t ya’ll get it right? geesh
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
YAY
Doe’s that mean we now 12613 campers sitting in chairs earning 3 linden for every 10 mins?
Way to Go
December 29th, 2006 at 3:36 PM
Someone mentioned the more online the more money they make, I say BS most of them are free accounts. Free accounts should be limited time wise and forced to pay if they wish to continue playing. Oh and where does the blog mention this unscheduled maintenance lol, “for more info check the blog”, UM the blog doesn’t say anything!!!

20,000 would very good for all SL business including mine, but only if the Grid is stable enough for the masses to spend money.
Although I understand that such a rapid rise in population will cause some hiccups - the continuing instability of the Grid is making the effort of running small businesses a lot less attractive.
According to the SL stats the majority of businesses are like my own, i.e. small income that cover costs and make only a few $ on the side. When the instability begins to outway the pleasure - the few $ become nothing and the small businesses will close - leaving er … well nothing!
I will give it another month to see the the issues resolve, if not I will call it a day and no more Quants2. So come on guys get stability back as top priority not eye catching numbers like 20k.

Man u guys, probaly the greatest game in the world here, but i cant even log in now, c’mon lindens, you created second life, you should be able to fix it in a timely manner. Best of luck to all lindens and employees.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:37 PM
… oops, spoke too soon. Logins are now closed and restricted to Lindens only. Ah well, there goes another meeting I won’t be able to attend, then :/
December 29th, 2006 at 3:38 PM
When do you expect will the login server be available?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:38 PM
Ummm. This kind of sucks. I tried to login a few minutes ago and I wasn’t allowed, getting the “down for maintenance” message and just over 16k users online.
Restart, clear cache, restart and still getting the same message but now (about 60-90 seconds later) only 14k users online. WTF is going on?
