Grid Status - SL Back Online
Monday, December 18th, 2006 at 1:57 AM by: Blue[2:36am PST] Second Life is back up. Thank you for your patience.
[1:55 am PST] Current database issues result in failed logins, teleports, search and blank profiles. We are working to diagnose the issue and apologize for the inconvenience.

December 18th, 2006 at 1:58 AM
Not good enough Guy’s.
Invest in some backup servers and a Q&A grid.
December 18th, 2006 at 1:58 AM
Well hope you fix the problem soon I have some business to attend to shortly I only logged out for 10 minutes and cant get back in =(.
Good Luck LL
December 18th, 2006 at 1:58 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 1:58 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 1:59 AM
Are the objects we were working on in-world safe?
December 18th, 2006 at 1:59 AM
indeed, you guys have too many problems, and it happens everyday. especially right after the updates.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:00 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
The screwdriver holding the server together has popped out.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
Yeah how long is this gonna take i am deciding between sleep and hoping grid gets back up?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
We understand you have issues, guys - but could you have a stab at an ETA?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
nice message - failed login - short and sweet.
If we knew why they’d have to kill us.
I have a friend in SL right now and he says he can’t see items in his folders etc - I was installing a very expensive lighting system and several of my controllers neither placed in world or reappeared in inventory. Frustrating to say the least.
SL - Broke again
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
More database issues? Like, what kind of issues? And why does it say Online and over 9,000 people on, when the site says closed for maintenance?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
ok im a weapons builder and i was building a 6 hr project and if i log in to find it gone like all the other times yer gonna have one pissed off sl person
December 18th, 2006 at 2:01 AM
Damn I was trying to teleport somewhere really sweet!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:02 AM
Our lindens, Thou art in Linden Labs
Hallowed be thy name
Give us this day our daily crash
And forgive us our spammery
As we forgive those who grief upon us
An send us into, private parcels
Amen.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:02 AM
I could tell all by myself that profiles, search ANd teleports are not working, just do something about it!|
Guys… I’m soo tired of paying for something that doesn’t work twice at week..
December 18th, 2006 at 2:02 AM
yes indeed.. is getting silly now … sure feels like its a daily occurance something is going nutsand not working right!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:02 AM
While you are at it, it would be ‘nice’ if you would give back to me the new gazebo I just purchased and attempted to rez but instead I got a message that object failed to rez and so with that the gazebo is not on my land, nor is it in my inventory. I have put in a couple of bug reports already due to my disappearing items that have cost me quite a bit of money and I see they are going to continue to disappear and you are going to continue to ignore it and not care at all that my money is disappearing into thin air, therefore trashed. I am sick enough of this now, I have lost enough items now, since your last big botched update, I have now sold ALL of my land and left myself with the free 512 square because I do not appreciate any company that does not care that their customers are losing money and obviously ignore bug reports in regards to the loss.
I am fed up, I have had enough !!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:02 AM
money from camp chairs, dance pads, etc isn’t being paid out also. great job sl, top quality control here!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
feel bad for the ppl who were building things at the current moment hope u get the things u were building
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
I would like to get my 2 cents in… I’m sure they are doing everything in their power to keep things running…
I have seen other smaller things far worse then this… I think people should be more appreciated at what this company is doing in their power…
But yes these issues that are occuring everyday need to be fixed even if it is shutting off the servers to get things done… I don’t see how possible it is to get issues fixed with 15,000 plus users logged in.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
hahah nice brad i like it
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
nothing wrong with mysql.. maybe invest in someone who has a clue on how to run it properly?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
I wonder if i will ever be able to post event again….it’s been a full week…I’m losing big time, especially with the break downs too
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
HAHAHA Classic Brad Im saving that one!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
Great, more bad news.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
hahaha
December 18th, 2006 at 2:03 AM
Thanks for the update, blue! Stay frosty!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM
December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM
Wow, what a shock..Yet again, SL goes down with no warning and leaves people hanging. This is getting old fast boys…Get your sh*t together already…Enough is enough
December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM
rez object failed , i just bought an item when that pop up came on it ,the object was not rezzed nor did it go back inventory ,im worried i lost it and just bought the outfit 350 lindens , thinking it was safe to rezz and it was not ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pulls out hair , get me back in sl NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM
LET ME IN
LET ME IN
December 18th, 2006 at 2:04 AM
Hmmmm. SL has become a bit of a trainwreck these days. Login Failed yet again, yet again.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
well what a surprise the database fails yet again…One day may we be allowed to loging to SL without some kind of problem going on ?… Miracles happen immediatley BUT SL takes forever
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
a warning would have been nice….
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
Humm, Why? it is 2 am SLT/PST and i wouldent think its Load on the servers.
Oh and Rezzing objects is broken too.
Did Linden lab update server side code? or is this a Grid Attack?
IDK, either way i lost work be cuse of the “issues”
When it gets temporary resolved, Please no one give them a high five.
It happens way to often, and it should not! Give them the high 5, when/if SL stays stable for a week.
But on a side note, Keep up the problem solving. I will be here waiting.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
i kno i have 6 hr project i rezzed it didnt come back i WANT IT BACk….
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
My customer wondered why he should invest thousends of euro’s while these things can happen. I hoped I convinced them that this is something temporary.. Please please please.. put all efforts in fixing these glitches..
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
fair comment James…but a little warning would be nice…alot of us were busy
December 18th, 2006 at 2:05 AM
people will be allowed back in when the camel is done urinating on the commodore 64 controlling the sl backbone of mac lisas
December 18th, 2006 at 2:06 AM
If only one would understand the complex structure that SL must be. All we can do is hope for improvement in the following future.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:06 AM
*Sighs* The database has more issues than National Geographic.
Put a robotic hamster in the server wheel this time guys!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:06 AM
the wierd thing is i hear all this ppl asking to get in and im stuck at a friend place while she cant go in sl im alone there watching tv lol
December 18th, 2006 at 2:06 AM
its funny, now it doesnt give me Login Failed, but instead SL completely freezes when i click Log In
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
this place reminds me of the EverCrack forums lol
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
Isn’t the point of a new release to fix problems instead of create them? In six months in SL every release — and there have been a lot of them — not only fail to fix problems but create new ones. This is getting very old.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
ROFL @ National Geographic issues!
Tune into tomorrows Episode of “The Way SL Crashed Today!”
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
oh man… i want to play and cant login.
LET ME IN please :(((
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
Blog and the grid wide messages coulda alerted everyone while this was going on and/or before. and there is no excuse for it. this blogs been working the entire time. and your frenzied hands on what ever it is you were working on doesn’t cut it either. takes 20 seconds to type in a little box. trust me i just did it. but i’m sure there will be a great excuse. I sure hope people start calling you guys on your pathetic answers to some of these issues like were a bunch of morons.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
Add to the list of issues.
I had just cleared cache and reloged, before taking a client *escort work* and had the client do so as well as is my pattern.
My entire inventory was gone. All items, notecards, landmarks, trash folder, lost and found folder. We both experienced the same thing. *me and the client.* now I cant log in. It sticks at the “Second Life may appear to be frozen”. I cant hit the quit button, any clicks get the (not responding) text at the top of the SL window and when I open this web page over SL then try to switch back to the SL screen there is a blank spot where this browser window was. On ending task on SL and trying to reopen it I get the crash report Yes/No dialog.
Whew. where thats all I know, hope it helps.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM
me too HK….
December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:07 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:08 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:08 AM

December 18th, 2006 at 2:08 AM
Rofl well I came back to see what was up and here I go and login and am having fun and all of a sudden when updating my profile its gone blank, and then I try to port and I can’t and then I logout and here I am .. hehe its funny in a wierd kinda way
Anyhow how come every other game on the planet can run a database longer then a day? (wait dont answer that I’m not sure I want to know..)
December 18th, 2006 at 2:08 AM
December 18th, 2006 at 2:08 AM
Sighs - now my splashscreen doesnt even load. Only white then “program not responding”
and I’d really like to get back to it. lol
I was right in the middle of testdriving some equipment
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
I’m getting the same thing HK - like the programme has crashed completly. It would be helpful if the Lindens would give us a bit more information - all we are doing is guessing at the moment - mind you, maybe that is what they are doing!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
I’m glad it’s down. My therapist probably arranged it, so that I’d get some sleep.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
i am new to secondlife, but if these things occur regularly i will not be happy
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
I too sold all my land last week after losing $2000L in assets from inventory and getting no response except one Linden who said “I’ll be away a few weeks so try someone else” ::LOL:: I’ve followed all the rules, jumped through every hoop, and got nowhere. I’ve lost a few friends here already but I’m still kinda having fun… especially now the cost is on someone elses back. I do feel bad for those who are still Premium though. Good luck to you, Sisyphus
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
Argh!! All day, everytime I sat on something - I flew into the air and had to relogg! Now trying to work on my business and can’t get in!! You only did an update last week, couldn’t those things be resolved then! Very Very Frustrating! (please excuse my over-use of exclamation marks!!!!)
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
Why are in a lot of people? I have to work to my project…..I can’t believe it…..Hurry up, Hurry up!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
is it me or does everyone notice that x-box 360 model year 2005 has less wrong with it then this site i swear i can trust it more then this site but this is to much fun i cant leave i vote they hire a better development team but thats just me so this is my F-U message to lindens in saying 360 has less wrong with it then this site
December 18th, 2006 at 2:09 AM
bah yep i guess they kicked me out as well well at least had time to watch som tv after everyone got kicked hope its up soon
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
my booty call is waiting…
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
Awww, down again! :’( Please list some more info linden on what is going on!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
Hah ! That’s a problem. I was performing an openheart surgery when I got logged off. will the blood pump still run since it is scripted ?
Thanks for giving us a break :-))
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
um builders. One thing you oughta know if you working on a live system is take a copy of your builds every now and again. This a public system you workin on and if for some reason they gotta roll back the database it better to lose an hour than a day. That aint sl that just life in an open system.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
The database problems don’t even let you post an in-world announcement before shutting the doors off?
I was updating my shop items and now most of my displays, vendors, prices are all over the place -literally! I guess I have to stay here until SL is back online (1, 2.. 10 hours?), refresh the status page every minute and login asap SL is back online, before people start buying my items for 1L$?? Thanks for ruining my day once again!!!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
I don’t know about you guys, but i see odd things when i refresh this page..
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
Nevermind. At least the good news is they got over 2 million now.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:10 AM
Paskis Robinson rofl ye i deff think your therapist arranged it m8 :)))
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
This is getting boring!
Database issues have been going on for at least a month or more… No search, lost inventory, failed teleports, logins… The system just can’t handle the ever-increasing load!
And the worst, paying customers get no refunds, no credits! Less and less service for their money!
Please fix this, Lindens!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
aww… i’m sorry you’re getting so much stick Lindens, personally i think you’re doing a great job. bugs and problems are to be expected, since a world like second life is so complicated. i am simply amazed that such a world can exist, however slow or laggy or buggy.
keep up the good work guys.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Mio: I can chase down a tiny electrical gremlin in a 86 bronco II with a 2.9 V6 faster then it takes linden “lets make new features and ignore bug fixes” labs to crash the grid.
why is it similar games like WoW are capable of supporting 100X the user load with no issues? People I used to know who play WoW are sooo fantical about it, I would have definitely heard (and be hearing about) all their characters going missing, levels going north, and cash assets invested in it being lost very quickly.
“but it’s new” “but it’s” won’t cut it, period. king phil on his gold plated throne should have all this crap fixed in beta. come on, this is beta quality errors/screwups, not something expected from a game as old as this.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Not that this will be taken seriously, but I would strongly suggest in an investment in some high level hardware. I would be willing to bet any money that there is not one server running an intel motherboard with a pentium processor and built in LAN support.
Aside form that, the comment about decent software is probably also in line, althought there may be fault in the codeing, a strong framework whould be used as well, something proven in commercial grounds. I seriously doubt some of the major banks have these problems.
You might wanna get someone on the investigative case and off the anti M$ and Intel bandwagon. The stuff works because they talk to each other. Get the tools for the job. You can spend tens of thousands on tuning the OS to run on wacked out hardware, or just get some that will run it right the first time and software that isn’t bug laden.
Great idea for a world class company, now start running it that way. All due respect intended.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
omg.. can’t login.
Please find the problem and DESTROY it. hahahaha
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
ooo this explains it, I thought my search froze because I was looking for “kinky animation balls”
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
LMAO @ Shadow Engawa
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Also getting “Logged out by an Administrator.”, too.. not a SIM crash or a client crash.. logged out by an admin with no warning or explanation.
Uhmm……
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
they should work on the lag problem too its getting annoying
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
LMAO @ Paskis, ya I should really gey some sleep too, but Im so dang busy reading these posts LOL
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
GRRRRRRR…I need my SL fix for the night, just got home from work.. CURSE YOU “LOGIN FAILED”!!!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Im not mad it down i just want my object when i log back in and if i dont live help will hear from me :P…..then give me those stupid notecards agian *sighs*
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Loki….u know how u can stop SL from crashing for you?….don’t use it…lol
And hello ppl, the update was 3 days ago for the optional and more for the main, and it went pretty smoothly…..these issues with the database been goin on for months and somehow you feel they’re attributed to the update? comeon, use some logic
and LL an nice thing testing the db to see if there are any issues maybe once every 5 minutes with an auto notice everyone in world would be nice
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
[1:55 am PST] Current database issues on the Commodore 64 that we stoere all your l33t craps on has resulted in failed logins, teleports, search and blank profiles. We are working to diagnose the issue and apologize for the inconvenience.
Fixed
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
lol same thing here SE
December 18th, 2006 at 2:11 AM
Okay… kicking people off the grid for maintenance, I can understand. I can’t understand a sudden “An administrator has logged you off”. Especially while in the middle of aligning textures that you’ve just spent L$200 on perfecting. Am I going to log in and find those textures gone or the work undone, because I wasn’t even given time to save my work? This is not cool…
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Cue a thousand comments of WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Come on guys don’t worry be happy, you still got your real life!!!
Hope we can enjoy our SL soon again….
I still got fait in this project.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Okay, all of your inventory is probably not gone, people — your client just can’t ask for it from the database server, cause the database server is down!
Chances are, if you purchased anything, you’ll either have the money still, or the object still in your inventory. Database transactions are atomic — which means either the operation totally fails, or totally completes.
And quit with the Let Me Ins — They already know you want in, yelling about it isn’t gonna help any. ^_^
Stay frosty, people. Your consentual hallucination will be back soon. Things never stay broke forever.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Hmmm Shadow?
Weird things like dead people?
or just people up way too late despite their therapists best advice?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Well, I just been forceably logged out… woohoo.
FFS, get on Oracle LL. I know it’s expensive, but on our database we regularly support 50,000 concurrent users with no crashes.
Sort it out. People are investing money, which ultimately goes to you and things just disappear. Is that theft?
December 18th, 2006 at 2:12 AM
Hell I was sitting around talking to friends catching up on crap and boom sl crashs. Not unusual since this ‘opitional patch’. Figure pc needs a reboot - been on about 9hrs without on - so I reboot go grab a bite come back sign into SL and I get the ‘login failed’
I tried this for the last half an hour on my two & my husband’s avatars. Hell his even came up with some retarded ‘your computer clock is fucked up so we aren’t logging you in’ ok so thats not exaclty the case but it’s something like it
God..sometimes I want to take SL out to the back of my house and shoot it!
December 18th, 2006 at 2:13 AM
simply cannot handle the amounnt of people they got all the publicity for, hence the boots in numbers a couple of months back. pride will never be swallowed by big CEO to admit the same. it samells of unprepreation on LL behalf
December 18th, 2006 at 2:13 AM
Well, thanks for the warning before you just abruptly logged me out. Noooo, I wasn’t doing anything or taking care of anything. How about a system annoucement? You have the blue boxes, could you use it? A little warning would be nice instead of just chucking you out.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:13 AM
@Eva Adamsson: This isn’t MySql…. It’s MS Access
*ROFL
/me Reaches for a rope and searches out a tall yard arm
December 18th, 2006 at 2:13 AM
upon failed login console tells me that https://login.agni.lindenlab.com/cgi-bin/login.cgi fails on line 600-ish. depending on what sim i try and log in to i get various results. sometimes sl locks and refuses to respond, sometimes i get the said error above, but now all it seems to do is “LLCMLRPCTransaction CURL error 7: Failed connect to login.agni.lindenlab.com:443; No error”
hope it helps? :/
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
Okay let me in and and please please when
i can log in let my building be there.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
If you can’t seem to invest in a few Backup Servers, at least invest in a Support Group for People having Secondlife (Unable to Log in) “Grid Status-Offline” withdrawls.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
“Things never stay broke forever.”
No It just appears that way
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
Comon guys give LL a break.
yes its pain this happen i aggree on that
No you wont lose money cus this make all get effected.
Nobody can buy from ya -_-
What you lose is som time online but calm down go and get you self a cup of coffee.
And be glad sombody doing somting with this problem…
I wud like to see how SL was without the lindens making sure to get tings back up when crashed like this…
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
Too bad… SL is going the same way as other online games I’ve tried. They just keep pushing out new features without fixing the old ones first, making it harder and harder to fix bugs, and to hold on to customers. 2 million members? That’s because people don’t pay for their accounts, or that number would be 1-2% of what is it.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
Just like microsoft…experiment with updates on your backup server..suggest a complete differnt database to begin wiht and if you don’t have it alread a back up server with auto switch after X amount of failures…completle inventories gone will they ever come back? what baout what you paid money for? Come on guys it’s a great game but lets take some more time and anaylize what the problems are and stop with the quick fixes….it was good b4 th eupdates….log is have completely failed now…anothe suggestion how about auto cache purge on relog in…also possibly increase bandwidth..its almost like haveing cable for the internet as the grid gets busier it just keepsslowing down till i tcrashes…hope some of these suggestions help
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
well at least do we know for how much time it will be off that sure would help if they give som info on that i beliave everyone will stop whining about pls let me in stuff
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
The Admins log us out so they can reset the database. If everyone would have logged out when this started, they could have fixed it faster. But instead, everyone is trying to push the grid harder and harder when there is an issue. Maybe we all need to sit back in good old reality … and watch the Matrix.
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
yeah like 2 millions in the past 2 month or so, that must be hitting on it
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
ROFL MS ACCESS is about it too
December 18th, 2006 at 2:14 AM
i hope it isnt an all day fix like that one time last month
December 18th, 2006 at 2:15 AM
Annnnd while you have my undivided attention LL, where is my “Enter” key function to close my text entry field so that I can hit E and fly? It’s almost all I want for crymsmas
December 18th, 2006 at 2:15 AM
People stop asking why people are still there! Note how it is always the same amount of people online 9,450 the assett server has crashed OBVIOUSLY, As for people whining please this isnt the time or place really it doesnt contribute towards anything. I have a hell of alot of money invested in SL myself and am supposed to be meeting a client to close a deal to get a new sim I should be more annoyed than most here but Im not, Lindens try hard despite the lack of communication. And yes it is constantly having problems but name one MMORPG anywhere that has to handle even 25% of the data and information SL does? anyone? And it doesnt help that newbies are coming and making crap attempts at scripts or people previously banned making a free anonimous account and crashing it on purpose I agree but live with it or delete your accounts.

I just lost reports and work I was trying to get done too.
Guess I’ll have to go RL to get SL work done and hope I can upload fast enough, as in Hurry-this-crap-will-crash-in-no-time.
I know you warn in advance about maintnance but all these Sim problems are turning this dream into a nightmare
Please stop messing the grid with constant tune ups
Take a Xmas break
Cut us some slack at least untill Jan 2 2007

Well it’s nice to see you folks realize theres a problem , I think the problem is too many people online and you don’t have the bandwidth to handle the load , I was a beta tester for aol and I see the same thing going on here . AOL out sold or should I say , gave away there bandwidth to free accounts and the end result was a nitemare , just like you got going on now . I pay you 225.00 bucks a month and I want my money’s worth , what part of that do you not understand ?. I do not want one cent of my money paying for free accounts . I want what I PAY FOR , and so do a bunch of other paying customers , you need to get a handle on this or some other company will take you over . . . MARK MY WORD . . .

Oy can’t you just FIX the problem and stop letting this happen. if there is an overload maybe upgrade the hardware and not software?
