Winter Festival Begins Today - Pick up Your Tour HUDS!
Friday, December 15th, 2006 at 11:37 AM by: Jeska LindenWe had many great submissions to participate in the Third Annual Second Life Winter Festival (read the initial announcement). We’ve chosen the participants for the event and created a set of Tour HUDS with the locations/events inside. Visit Chalet Linden in Wengen to pick up both Winter Festival Tour HUDs and your free official Second Life Winter Festival 2006 T-shirt!
There are two different HUDS, one for the first half of the event and one for the second. (Big thanks to Forseti Svarog for volunteering to set up the HUD system.) The folder also includes a copy of the HUD kiosk in case you want to place one on your own land. When you click the kiosk, a folder named “Winter Festival 2006 HUD & Tshirt” will appear in your Inventory. Right click on either of the HUDs and it will appear in the top right of your screen. Then click on any of the pictures to read more. Once you find what you want to visit, click the right hand button for the landmark.
Remember: The Winter Festival begins today - Friday, December 15 - and runs until December 22!
Keep reading for the full schedule of events…

Beings? Is that what we are now?
December 15th, 2006 at 12:28 PM
Is the festival on the TG too?
December 15th, 2006 at 12:30 PM
I think you typoed “Begins” in the headline…
December 15th, 2006 at 12:34 PM
Hehe, yeah type mistake
December 15th, 2006 at 12:34 PM
Oh dear, typos galore! You also just mailed December’s “Second Opinion” under the subject line “The Second Opinion: September 2006″
** It occurs that “Winter Festival Beings” could be a December celebration for polar bears?
December 15th, 2006 at 12:38 PM
For any newcomers, once you pick up your HUD, you’ll be able to find it in your Inventory.
Oh, wait…..
NVM, just search for the places listed above and head overthere yourself.
Oh, wait again…..
crap
December 15th, 2006 at 12:56 PM
Thanx Lex! That’s been fixed. Altho “Winter Festival Beings” does have a nice ring to it too.
Andy, I just noticed that, I’ll let Jeska know right now. Thx also!
December 15th, 2006 at 1:08 PM
Eep -sorry about the blog typo. I type faster than I can keep up sometimes
December 15th, 2006 at 1:10 PM
Paul! These events are only for the MG, but the good news is I just checked with Blue — aviatin’ admin of the Teen Grid — and he says yes, there will be Winter Festivities on TG! Watch out for his announce soon.
December 15th, 2006 at 1:50 PM
Fantastic Torley, that is great news for us Teen Grid Residents.
I really hate being always left in the dark cold corner of Second Life and being treated as if we Teens were immature objects instead of real human beings with feelings like adults are, down with Ageism!
December 15th, 2006 at 2:09 PM
Yes, down with ageism! More “adults” need to see the world with fresh eyes, it’s too easy to become jaded and lose the driving vitality and spark that comes with enjoying life!
Tangent, but connected: I’m reminded of holiday movies where an elderly couple sit together on a bench while it snows, hand-in-hand, and go “We felt like teenagers in love again”!
December 15th, 2006 at 2:19 PM
will there be any events on the TG?
December 15th, 2006 at 3:04 PM
Bah! Humbug! Ebenezer Scrooge was right all along!
December 15th, 2006 at 4:18 PM
Hmmmm, speaking of humbug - ‘Winter Festival’ - right Jes?
So how come the Linden Ski Lifts in Wengen and Vos arent running? Oh, and the Linden Snowboard scripts are broken? It’s not giving a very good impression to all the noobs hanging about in Wengen you know…
December 15th, 2006 at 5:07 PM
Funny, you post this on your blog yet refuse to host any sims for the festival
Good Show!!
December 15th, 2006 at 7:59 PM
For anyone confused about how the HUDs work, just go to Wengen, and click on the sign.
A folder called “Winter Festival 2006 HUD & Tshirt” will appear in your inventory.
Right click on either of the HUDs (there are two different ones because there are 24 places/events to see) and it will appear in the top right of your screen.
You can click on the pictures and read the description. If something interests you, click the right hand button for the landmark.

We had a fab Xmas party at Nakiska Yesterday (Fri 15th). The HUD brought lots of ‘beings’ to see Santa and his little helper who came all the way from NZ (thanks Jay Karlfeldt for that) and gave is snowballs and lollipops. Fireworks enlivened the evening and skiing was going on apace and dancing until we all fell exhausted into the hot tub at the clubhouse. Fabulous afternoon/evening - here’s thanks to Jeska for setting up the Festival and also all who came to Nakiska and made iour first Xmas Party go with a swing and a bang! Thanks also to my tolereant neighbours!
Esse Bellman hosts a similar ‘bash’ on next Friday - 22nd.
Merry Christmas to everyone!

I’m a “noob” still tentative to leave Help Island. This holiday thread makes me anxious to join the party! Ho, ho, ho!
December 16th, 2006 at 9:30 AM
I just wanted to add Grim Xmas has trivia (all answers can be found on the sim), you could win 20k Lindens, we also have a parade
December 16th, 2006 at 11:17 AM
Forseti - thanks for the directions! I’ll add the steps to the original post.
Freya - great to hear the event went well.
Enjoy the Winter Festival everyone - don’t forget to pick up your tshirt and HUDs
December 16th, 2006 at 2:38 PM
Thanks Forseti, between the lag, the stray gunfire, the fact that the sign isn’t in fact IN the Chalet and someone plonking a “Never Forget” World Trade Center model in front of the sign, it was a little tricky to figure out.

Hi, Everybody. The Snowman competition is in full swing until midnight 20 December PST. We forgot to say there is a L$1000 prize for the best snowman. Send your pictures to me. Well it actually sounds like a blast. I’m actually kinda excited about the festivities and am sure they’ll be fun.. Halloween was a blast this year with pleanty of things to do. I know i’ve been a bit aggressive and overly to the point in other areas but kudos for bringing out some christmas and holiday fun. Best wishes to all the resies and lindens, and i’m offering my home to the lindens during the grid wide snowball fight. lord knows you’ll need a safe haven.. lol. tc. happy holidays

[...] While mostly, these events can be cheesy, and are throwbacks to the Mentor Events ran by Helpers and Volunteers in Beta, this particular festival can be a lot of fun. They posted about it on the Linden Blog and it goes from the 15th to the 22nd, a full week. Be sure to swing by as Linden’s often show up cause if you aren’t there, you can’t get your snowball hits in [...]
December 18th, 2006 at 10:54 PM
[...] The winter festival in Second Life has always been one of my favorite events of the year, with a wonderful combination of winter wonderland, festivity, and art. This year Linden Lab did not have the ability to centralize the expo around Wengen and Zermatt (two snow sims) as in years past, so I threw together two TourHUDs for people to find the event and art locations submitted to LL. You can pick them up here — HUD 1 has some of the ongoing exhibits, and HUD 2 has some events still to-happen. ESC created the TourHUDs earlier this year for GSD&M who was generous enough to open source it for the community, thus allowing me to use it to good end in this case (so thank you). [...]

The Winner of the Snowman Competition is Lillee Rochefort. She has been sent the prize of L$1000.
Thank you to all competitors. It looks like Easter Egg rolling will be the next one or possible Sweetheart Rolling on the 14 February
