Rolling Update - Complete
Friday, December 15th, 2006 at 5:22 PM by: Joshua LindenAs mentioned on the blog by Don Linden, we have identified a fix of some simulator lag and are rolling out an update with a patch. The patch also addresses these issues:
* Fixed group notices containing broken subjects/formatting and duplicated text
* Fixed carriage returns appearing as ‘?’ in group notices
* Fixed rezzing objects that overflow the parcel’s prim allowance sends objects to (0,0,0)
Each region will be given a 5 minute warning then restarted. The restarts sweep across the grid from north to south, so to avoid being logged out you can keep teleporting further south, or teleport north across the line of restarting regions.
As I post this, ETA for completion of the roll is a little over an hour, but that can change based on system load levels. I’ll post updates as necessary.
[Update: The rolling update was completed at approximately 6:30 pm PST. We appreciate your patience.]

I was logged out of a room I paid to use. I had a lot of time left but the Rolling Update will keep me out for most of that time. Do I have any recourse? Thanks!

I was wondering why there was nothing but red around the sim I was trying to tp to :).

Any possibility that we can fly/land using the [home] key again soon please? [page up] and [page down] will let you jump, but not keep you there and having to exit mouselook to make the flying status change each time is annoying. Given that it only happened at the last patch I’m guessing someone commented out the trap unintentionally?

Sorry to post again so quickly. I realize this was probably done to reduce the database load caused by the map, but isn’t there a way to refresh the map without having to tp to another sim?
Or at least let you try to tp to a sim that appears to be offline from the map (it says invalid location right now).

I live on the SW corner of an island and have had a couple of the neibors prims (crashed teleporter beams) that i coud not return at about the (0,0,0) cordnates for a few days now they are gone from the prim count. But they seem to be pushed futher into the nether reagons between islands were they are still emiting particles. Not very noticable but me thinks still using somesorta sim recorces.

Hi folks -
Can someone explain what’s happening when a parcel is full? I thought that it was just a matter of keeping away from rezzing new objects, but I’ve noticed that existing objects started to vanish as well, such as house parts, furnitures… I checked the “lost and found” folder and there’s nothing in there. Knowing that many of these objects were not free, I’m pretty pissed off. I had last night a party at home (ACS/Dreamland), with fireworks, and I received in my chat window a lot of error messages about the parcel being full (to rez some of the fireworks). And once the party was over, the house was a wreck. An insurance business might be successful in SL!
Is there some rule about parcel occupation? Such as leaving at all times 10% prims free or whatever? That should be stated clearly somewhere…
Thanks.

alison, holding the pgup key for a few seconds has the same effect as hitting home.
This function has always been in second Life and is a bit more realistic in the flight approach.

Hi, thanks for the hard work on trying to fix the lag, that being said:
I have a friend in pug who can’t tp, and everytime she moves she just keeps going and going and going…. Is this somehow related to the lag issues stated above?
This last update did help some things for sure..But has anyone noticed more lag?
Is there anything LL is working on to reduce it? Besides turning search off that is..
What about lag on Private Islands?
Maybe more stable servers? A bigger database or more stable one? I’m not that computer savvy so I’m not quite sure if I’m asking the right questions.. I’d just appreciate an answer that is more detailed than “We’re continuing to work on it” Please? It would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

“Unable to create requested object. Please try again.”
I got this message while trying to take snapshots and upload them to inventory. Now the message keeps popping up every few seconds. No snapshots were created.

Oh, and I cannot delete items, my hair is partially missing, and my teleport offers to a friend is not working. And yes, that “unable” message is still popping on and off.

Congrats on a smooth update! I don’t think I’ve seen an ‘update’ post to this blog with so few replies, no complaints about lack of warning, and not a single “OMG!! Your update broke XYZ!!! FIXITFIXITFIXIT!!!1!11!1!one!” post. Awesome work! =)
Take care!

Big thanks for the quick response on that horrible lag. Places show up much faster now and the massive packet loss seems also reduced. I know you work hard on every frontline.
Again, BIG BIG THX

Too bad performance is worse than ever.

Aaah the lag continues
under 10000 ppl on the grid and the bandwidth bar is full red.

I’d like to see a customizable interface, so that I can act like I am used to from other MMORPGs:
e.g.
Left Mouse Button click: touch / select
Left Mouse Button double click: initiate action
Mouse wheel: zooms in and out
Right Mouse Button click on terrain: character moves to position in landscape (if possible)
Right Mouse Button click on sky: character moves in that direction until an obstacle occurs
Right Mouse Button held down: moves camera angle
Other big online games have a user-definable interface (e.g. World of Warcraft, Entropia Universe). Their customization possibilities are good, but not perfect.
Perhaps Second Life developers will take up this challenge? I certainly hope so.

* Fixed rezzing objects that overflow the parcel’s prim allowance sends objects to (0,0,0)
Can we now please fix the bug where SL thinks the parcel is full when it is not and disallows creation of objects? I’ve got 703 free prims and can’t get my SexGen bed to rezz balls because the parcel is full. Or, more accurately, they end up rezzed somewhere else and are returned to lost and found because such and such a parcel (not mine) is full. I’ve been getting these “parcel full” errors for over a week now … hmmmn … since the new lsl functionalities for counting prims for owners were added? Coincidence? I think not.

Cross posted from an older post:
The time dilation and sim fps problem seems to have vastly improved in the past two days (thanks for the patches!). Whatever those patches were, they seem to be helping quite a bit.

For crying out loud, WHEN WILL THE WATER REZZING PROBLEM BE FIXED. This problem is TOTALLY DESTROYING MY ENJOYMENT of the game. I didn’t pay for DITCH-FRONT property. I’ve spent hours and hours and considerable money on my property and I’d really appreciate it if you’d see fit to fix this horrible problem.
Thank you.

Played earlier today with around 13,000 online and things were a little laggy but usable for the most part. Now with 17,000 online it is not playable.
I notice in some sims my bling will slow way down and not disappear after the flash. I can stumble around running into unrezzed object and people with a trail of bling flashes that have yet to end their flash. If that wasn’t so entertaining it would be irritating. lol
I can only imagine how hard it is to try and deal with all this. If you guys ever get things working good again all the time I will go back to paid account and buy land. The most fun I have in SL is building but that simply is not possible lately.
Also another vote to stop unverified accounts. Not because they are a hassle but there is no age check. SL is basically one big sex orgy as it is now. Every sex club I go to is filled with “No Payment Info on File” and many are obviously no more than 15 years old. Their grammar skills show it and attitudes show it. Letting people interact with kids in a sexual manner may not be your direct legal problem as they lied about their age to get in but it surly is not ethical.
If you are going to run an adult grid you need to make sure only adults are getting in. Sooner or later you will be forced to when more people find out kids are running around with their naked 3D avatar doing whoever they can. Stuff like that makes new laws. So you should deal with it sooner than later.
Just my opinion of course. I choose now to deal with people that have no payment info on file simply because I cannot trust their age. I recommend everyone else do the same at very least in sexual situations.

> * Fixed rezzing objects that overflow the parcel’s prim allowance sends objects to (0,0,0)
Sadly this is not true. I am still occasionally having this happen, more especially in the course of sim crossings, and undoubtedly related to the infamous “objects in [sim] cannot be created because the parcels are full” bug. It seems that (as in sooo many other instances), one particular fix has not eliminated all instances of a bug–just SOME of them.
This is why it is so important to concentrate on fixing bugs *until you get SL to be sufficiently stable*. I know it’s very tempting to sneak in a few improvements (heck, there’s several improvements I would love to see), but PLEASE Lindens, *resist that temptation* until you have a stable background to implement them on. I know bug hunting is not glamorous, I know it’s thankless and frustrating, but it really is what SL needs right now.

the are not improving in high traffic sims. Dils are stil a nightmare and so are FPS.
But atlease the Joshua Linden is taking pride in his work! Seeing improvments but atleast its a start keep up the good work Joshua.

Well it seems that after this last update, I am no longer able to update text in notecards that are within a prim. Also inventory reloads within a prim are also next to impossible to deal with, especailly if you have a lot of items in there. You even edit the permissions of an item and it takes for ever or the contents within that prim seem to “dissapear” unless you click off of it and on the prim again. This has baan an ongoing problem for quite some time now and it really is becomming a pain. I dont often speak out like this, but please address this issue.
