[RESOLVED] Gridwide rolling update complete
Thursday, December 7th, 2006 at 3:14 PM by: Torley[5:25 PM PST] Rolling update done. As Doug put it, “C’est finit!” Enjoy your Second Life.
[5:00 PM PST] Looks like the previous estimated timeframe was a bit too low — the grid’s grown so much!
Please note you may experience slow logins during this time and the screen may go blank: this is expected. Wait in the login queue and you should be able to get in eventually! (I’m waiting myself.)
[4:29 PM PST] You may have seen this recently:
And here’s what you may have seen on the World Map:
“BEHOLD THE WAVE OF RESTARTATION!”
Doug Linden’s taking care of regions which didn’t come up as quickly as expected.
[3:58 PM PST] Thanks to Sabin for sending out a gridwide announce about this — I’m sorry, I was trying to send some earlier but mine weren’t working. Incidentally, Sabin’s behind the new order of restarts! w00t. Our engineers are continuing to watch the process…
[3:46 PM PST] Rolling update continues, things are going smoothly.
[3:20 PM PST] The rolling update has just started.
Today, we’ll be doing another Second Life rolling update in a few minutes. This means the grid will remain live, so you can stay logged in as long as you’re not in a region while it restarts.
WHY? The importance of this update is to reduce load on our internal database. Database load has been causing disruptions to your Second Lives lately, as you may recall from earlier news.
HOW’S IT WORK? Each region will be restarted, with a five-minute warning given inworld in each region warning Residents that they’ll need to move or be logged off. Most regions should come back online in under five minutes of the restart. The process should complete in about an hour and a half.
WHAT’S NEW? Those of you who requested this before will be pleased that there’s — finally! — a followable pattern to the order of restarts. Regions will be restarted from left-to-right, north-to-south! Similar to how you’re reading these words. So if you need somewhere to TP to and flee the wave, head north.
I’ll amend this post accordingly as the rolling update proceeds.

[...] Behind-the-scenes, we’ve been continuing to work on improving the database load, which has to be stable in order for us to bring back features like Search > Places. The rolling update today is one example of this. [...]

“C’est finit” is uncorrect, need to be “C’est fini” without “t” …
Nevermind … just to correct this little error.
See you all, thanks for your work.

grid is up, but chaos is also up…can’t set objects on sale, can’t transfer items, can’t rezz, people buy my stuff and don’t get it on their inventories, i don’t get the money of the transaction nor its records on my account…..and there’s nobody at live help….is it just me?

I’m just wondering if all the problems are close to being resolved. I’ve barely even logged in for the past 2 weeks because it has been so frustratring. I am invisible, things won’t rez, I can’t teleport - the list seems endless and it is all very very frustrating.
I am sure it’s not fun for all the LL people, and I feel sorry for them. But I do have two questions that I hope you can answer
1) Can we expect all major problems to be resolved and things back to “normal” (whatever that is) soon?
2) What are you guys going to do to make sure this type of fiasco doesn’t happen in the future?
I understand things like this will happen from on occassion, but after its all over, I do hope plans are made to improve the process that broke and allowed this to happen
