New Linden Liaison

Monday, December 4th, 2006 at 4:58 PM by: Char

 Welcome to Rika!

Rika joins us with awesome Japanese language skills so she’ll be listening into Live Help to hear requests coming in there and I’m sure will hear your hellos here as well! We are so happy to have her on the team and hope you are too. =)

Also on the topic of Liaisons we are still receiving quite a few resumes for Liaison. If you have applied and haven’t heard back its quite possible we have not read through your resume yet. We will be contacting back those who we are interested in interviewing. Thanks for the continued interest! -Char

Welcome to the Linden family, Rika.

Hyperstar: That was a good effort in Romanji. Japanese has enough nuances that I still barely understand it even after months of casual study.

  17. 17 SLOz - Australia’s Second Life News Source » Linden announce Japanese speaking liasion Says:

[...] Linden today announced the employment of Rika Linden, a Japanese speaking liasion person. It’s encouraging to see the growth of multi-lingual capability in-world. I personally believe an Australian liasion person is probably needed as we speak real English and it may not be understood by other alleged English speakers [...]

Will you be sending “thanks but no thanks” letters to those who aren’t successful applicants? I know it’s not the american way - but in other parts of the world it is considered courteous to still acknowledge a person’s interest even if they were not considered right for interview.

As SL is now truly international, perhaps it’s time to consider doing some things other ways - because ‘the american way’ isn’t always the best.

    おめでとう !

  20. 20 Millie Thompson Says:

Greetings Rika! I’m pleased to know another Linden has joined Linden Lab. ^^

Out of curiosity… the name Rika, any relation to the Newman Rika from Phantasy Star IV The End of the Millenium?

  21. 21 Relee Baysklef Says:

Heya Rika! WTG on the awesome new job! ^.^

Any advice for writing resumes to Linden Labs? As a potential international applicant myself, I’m a little anxious about doing it for the Americans. In my country of Canada, job success classes tell us that the Resume is almost nothing to an employer, just a formality, and the Cover Letter is everything. My American friends tell me it’s completely opposite in the U.S.

What’s it like for a Japanese applicant?

  25. 25 Neard Harbinger Says:

Welcome Rika! Always good to have more international Lindens on the team. :)

So, can we get a テディーベア?

Yeah, that’s probably totally butchered. The closest thing I can get to speaking Japanese is a translator. But maybe a point for effort? :P

I love teddy bears…that’s why I named my shop the Teddy Bear Workshop, even though I sell scripted gadgets and such. :P

  26. 26 Celeste Says:

Welcome Rika! I’m sure you will find many Japanese speaking individuals that are thrilled to have someone that can help them in their native tongue. Myself not being one of them, but always good to have a diverse population!

*In reference to the “thanks, but no thanks” not being the American standard. I beg to differ, we do practice that, it is actually up to the individual employer. I infact got a “rejection call” on the telephone a week ago. And in reference to the cover letter better than the resume, usually the cover letter helps an employer get a snapshot view, but they do read the resume here, again up to the individual employer and how much time they want to dedicate to finding the right person(s)*

  31. 31 Rika Linden Says:

First and most importantly, I would like to thank EVERYONE for welcoming me. I appreciate the warm welcomes, kind thoughts, and spirited excitement this new responsibility comes with. I am here for you and I am looking forward to helping you in every way possible. Not to worry, I can assist you in both English and Japanese. Here are just a few specific replies I need to address:

    >Millie Thompson: No, unfortunately “Rika” is not from “Phantasy Star IV The End of the Millenium”. Rika is a popular name in Japanese and I wanted to become her, here in-world.

    >Neard Harbinger and everyone else: As far as “getting” my “teddy bear”, I will let everyone know when it becomes available. Good things take time… great things take a little longer. :-)

    >Tyken,Kinzo,Jesrad,Matrix:
    ありがとうございます。まだまだ至らないことがあり勉強中ですが、頑張ります。
    どうぞよろしくお願いします。
