[UPDATE] Database load holding steady, emergency tweaks in effect

Friday, December 1st, 2006 at 9:39 PM by: Torley

[Dec. 2 @ 6:19 AM PST] I’ve been checking throughout the night and into the early morning, and Second Life’s grid is sustaining. Things should feel noticeably better than they were since my last update. This is ongoing, so re: more work left to be done —

we have dedicated Linden engineers who’ll be monitoring the situation over the weekend, and reenabling the aforementioned, disabled Search features ASAP. They’ve already been working hard behind-the-scenes, making configuration changes to increase stability. I’ll be tuned into their findings, providing more updates throughout the days — morning, noon, twilight, post-midnight — as news comes…

[10:01 PM PST] Lexie Linden just let me know she’s been hearing many reports of objects from Inventory failing to rez inworld. I’ve seen some of this myself; just wanted to let you know we know about this too — add it to the list of related issues.

In some instances, Inventory items may not show up, even when searched for. While this isn’t guaranteed to work during these harsh conditions, you can try going to Edit menu > Preferences > Network tab and push “Clear Cache” button and relog.

REMEMBER: generally, things may appear to be gone, but they are not actually gone. When the database’s functioning as expected, your stuff should be rezzable again.

-=-=-=-=-

Hi everyone, I just got paged — we’re continuing to have difficulties with the Search database, same combination of things not working inworld as described before, please see recent Grid Status Updates.

Our engineers have been trying a multitude of things to fix the database, including rolling back to a previous version, but that didn’t help. We’re continuing to search for the root cause of the crashes. Until we can get this resolved satisfactorily, we’ve taken the following steps to alleviate load, same ones we did last night:

  • Search > Places is disabled (shows “Service unavailable.”)
  • Map Classified icons are disabled
  • Map Event icons are disabled

Our apologies for the continued trouble, we’ll continue to work away on it.

[...] The past couple of days have seen near continuous issues for Second Life. At time of writing, there’d been yet another update from Linden on the problems. Over the past twelve hours there’s been consistently high numbers of people logged in, coinciding with the US weekend load, which can’t be be helping matters. [...]

    SL screws up again

SecondLife has yet again let it’s userbase down.  I know of NO other company which would rollout defective code and just “let it run” for DAYS at a time.  Yes, it’s nice that they’re trying to fix it on the main grid, bu…
