Blog load-balancing issues are being investigated
Monday, October 9th, 2006 at 12:00 PM by: Torley Linden[UPDATE - 12:43 PM PDT] Thanx muchly to Barry @ WordPress for getting back to us so quickly. Looks like the problem had to do with cached copies of our pages due to the amount of traffic we’re getting. Caching on the Official Linden Blog has been turned off; the problem of seeing “stale old pages” should be solved within an hour or so. Please comment if you still notice not getting the freshest news from us, on time, in the future!
If you’ve had problems with the blog not showing the latest posts, or say you’ve been reloading a page and it appears to go “back in time” by showing less comments than the last time you viewed it, we’ve already contacted WordPress support for assistance with this issue.
It appears to have to do with load balancing: our blog is spread across multiple servers so it’ll be more resilient in times of stressful and high activity like right now. Ideally, our information should show up for you right after it’s published, which it’s not… so the problems are currently being investigated. (And it’ll be ironic if you see this entry long after it’s posted — I hope not!)
Just wanted to let you know!

Hello Torley, read your post at 12.05 ..so not a long time afther you posted it

Thanks for the update, Torley, I had noticed that issue.
One question, I think that all users collectively have important evidence via their in-world experience during the attacks that could help LL figure out who is behind this. It tried to help out by posting via Live Help but I’m not sure if my realtime recounting was noticed.
I have saved names on objects and have a copy of my Live Help transcript saved. Is there some way to provide this to LL? Would it be useful?

Thanks for the update guys! I was worried my comment never made it

If you go to the WordPress main site, this blog is on the top of their “hot blogs” list, and the “grid down” thread is at the top of their “most active” list. (at least they were as of about 2:45pm EST)

do u ever get anything right?

The internet technology isn’t even able to make a simple text log work correctly … how can anyone here expect a complex program secondlife to be working perfectly?

people don’t understand “grey goo” or “self replicating”, I do, as i’m a tech geek of a child (24 years young!!), i had people accusing me of making grey good yesterday, because i was trying to fill a 10 meter sphere with beach balls, and missing horribly. Ended up dropping something like 600 balls.
they even got one of the lindens IMing me to ask me what was with the balls.
they were physical spheres, and all scripts had been turned off (not that the spheres HAD any scripts)
Sure there were several hundred.
Am I the only one who has figured out you can take multiple, unlinked prims back to your inventory as one object, and drop them all at once?

are my comments getting through? I don’t see them
October 9th, 2006 at 12:17 PM
If I start seeing them long *before* they’re posted, I’ll be irreversibly sold on your techno-wizardry

1. the people attacking the grid using In world resources have not commited a real life crime… they have only violated ( repeatably) your TOS… and as such there is limited legal mobility.
2. They seem to be succseeding…. No offence meant but the fact the attacks are so frequent makes the Lindens look like they cant control SL…. because of that you have already seen some buggedets coming out to post…ultamatly this will cause unrully problems in the future.
all I can say is what ever ya do for this.. dont listen to these people who want to take the easy way out… and it still wont solve the problem to eliminate free acounts

naomi, in the present, blog comments are moderated. For you and everyone who hasn’t seen it yet, please read our guidelines:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/09/11/guidelines-for-blog-comments/
We’re going to continue to adapt and evolve this. (And hopefully make them more visible on the sidebar too!)

Well a “simple” log lying in a database with about 10.000 other “simple” logs while beeing read by about 1.000.000 users at the same time…
makes it not THAT simple any more
including all other blog and web2.0 stuff like backlinks/categores/comments…..

Yup, I can see your comment naomi. Apropos your post, I think that this type of heightened vigilance is natural and not a bad response by the community to the types of attack that have been seen.

Is the blog comment display supposed to be working properly yet?
A comment I made that I think appeared last night does not appear today.
