We’ll be unmangling our blog’s layout shortly…

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006 at 9:23 AM by: Torley

[10:58 AM PDT/SLT] It was just some bad formatting pasted in here, no worries. All good now!

[UPDATE - Sep. 27 @ 10:13 AM PDT/SLT] Looks like something in Jean Linden’s recent post to our blog made things go awry — we’ve pulled it onto our operation table for the time being to find out what’s going on, it’ll be back in good health!

It’s not just you who sees our blog’s layout as messed-up — where did our sidebar go? :o As Suezanne Clarissa Baskerville noticed:

The blog layout seems to be out of whack, at 5:00 SLT 9-27-06.

We’ve been adding blog improvements and looks like something went amiss during the changes. This’ll hopefully be fixed soon today. Sorry for the reading hiccups in the meantime.

    “blog improvements” = new feature.
“looks like something went amiss during the changes” = new bugs.

Remember each new feature introduces 3 new bugs. Squashing those bugs introduces one more. :)

I don’t really count strippint out the tag cloud all together as a good idea.

Especially since it’s all the way down the bottom.

    I repeat:

I is also thinking you might want to have the web peeps move the Pages widget further up the sidebar, and the authors widget lower down.

Methinx the order should be along the lines of:

    searchy/subscribe bits
    Events
    Pages
    Categories
    Reduced tag cloud
    Recent comments
    Recent trackbacks
    Archives
    Authors

…or you could go back to forums which are usefull for finding information and the exchange of dialog. very much unlike this censored blog crud.

    thanks!

I don’t touch the forums with a 20 foot barge pole. Never liked them much.

Censorship generally only occurs if you say something out of line or way off topic.

P.S. The anchor tag still needs fixing in my previous comment.

Are you going to be reducing the glare on this blinding white too? I think this blog could use a little more colour.

  6. 6 Gigs Taggart Says:

Yeah, I never understood why people want white backgrounds on web sites. It’s like staring into a light bulb. As someone who has been fighting migranes lately, it really sucks.

Its a common fact that black text on a white page is the easiest to read.

  8. 8 Jeff Linden Says:

When it comes to color aesthetics, opinions are fairly diverse even here in Linden Lab. I like the feedback that everyone is giving!

However Gigs, in the interim I would note that you can also change the way your browse displays websites. For a period of time I had some pretty bad migraines as well, and brightness bothered me- so I changed the browser to simply do a neutral gray background by default. It helped me a lot.

Use Firefox and you can easily customise the style altogether.
