Machine Drawing A Machine World

Bre Pettis brought his amazing Make::Drawbot to Euro OSCON to draw portraits of people at the Make Fest, so I asked him if it could draw a picture of me in Second Life. It took lots of tweaking, but the result was a machine drawing of a machine man in a machine world.

So here I am, an (allegedly) real person looking at a virtual representation of a real picture of a virtual avatar of a real person drawn by a robot looking at the avatar in a virtual world.

That’s not enough levels of abstraction. Somebody needs to put the pictures into SL, so that I can record a video of me looking at them, and then maybe record myself watching them and stream that into SL and…

…do we have enough mirrors?

Maybe if we took a picture of the machine drawing this machine drawing of a machine man in a machine world and got it to machine draw the machine drawing machine drawing this machine drawing of a machine man in a machine world then we’d have enough levels of machine-based abstraction.
